Opening act

"Hi everybody," said Yumi as she wondered over to their table.

"Hi, Yumi," said Jeremy as he glanced out of the newspaper he was reading.

"What's happenin', Yumi?" asked Ulrich.

"You mean to tell me there's actually a little news in the Kadic News this time?" asked Yumi as she sat down.

"Don't tell me you haven't heard!" exclaimed Odd in disbelief. Ulrich gave her his newspaper.

"Scoop of the year, blah blah blah, Chris coming to Kadic, blah blah blah, how amazing. Who's Chris?"

"You're kidding. Haven't you ever heard of the Subdigitals?" asked Ulrich.

"They used to be the subsonics," said Harry.

"Chris is their drummer. And he'll be at Kadic today," explained Odd.

"Hey, you guys, cool it. Sounds like a phony scoop," said Yumi dismissively.

"Yeah, it sure does. Just another one of Milly and Tamiya's dumb stories," agreed Jeremy.

"Well, it could be for real. It seems that Chris is coming here to visit his uncle," said Aelita.

"He is," said Sissi with a smile.

"You mean that Chris has an uncle that works here?" asked Yumi.

"I wonder who that could be…" Aelita trailed off.

"You too, Aelita? How could you believe that stuff?" asked Jeremy.

"If it's true, who do you think his uncle really is?" asked Yumi as they walked outside. Odd read the newspaper as he walked.

"Fumet, Chardin, Mr Delmas. Not Mr Delmas. Sissi could never be Chris' cousin," said Ulrich. "No offense."

"If Sissi was Chris' cousin, she'd be shouting it out to anyone willing to listen to her," said Aelita.

"What about Rouiller?" asked Ulrich.

"Huh? Michel Rouiller, the custodian? Right, well, in that case, why not Jim?" suggested Odd.

Harry looked at the picture. "He does look a bit like Jim."

Odd walked into Jim.

"Well done Della Robbia. Just as clumsy as ever."

"Jim! What a coincidence! We were just talking about you," said Odd.

"Me?" Jim raised an eyebrow.

"Uh, yeah. It seems that the Subdigitals' drummer is coming to Kadic to visit his uncle and we thought that you'd be the first to know."

"Uh, me?" Jim shifted nervously. "No. what gave you an idea like that?"

"Oh, I forgot." Odd hit his head. "That's not your style of music at all, is it Jim? You're into, like, oldies."

"Yeah, but wait a second. I also happen to like rock music, and I love the Subdigitals! Those guys are very talented artists. Especially my nephew. He's really great," said Jim.

"I was right! You're Chris' uncle! I can't believe it!"

"Uh, I didn't say that, did I?"

Odd nodded. "You sure did Jim. That's what he said, right?"

"Ok, ok, Chris is my nephew, but…"

"Wow! That's what I call a sensational story!"

"I order you not to tell anybody. Especially you Della Robbia. I don't want this getting around."

"I promise not to tell a living soul Jim."

Later

Jim ran as he was chased by fangirls.

"Hey, you all got the wrong guy! I don't know any Chris! I never heard of the guy, you hear! Go away! Away, I say!" yelled Jim.

Gym

"My dear Chris, on behalf of the entire staff and student body of Kadic Academy, I would like to wish you a very warm welcome," said Delmas as she stood on the stage with Jim and Chris. The students cheered as Tamiya took pictures.

"Good morning, everyone, and thank you all for this enthusiasm," said Chris as he stood at the podium. "As I guess all of you know, I came here to visit my uncle. But there's another reason as well. The Subdigitals have decided to do a school tour to discover new talent and to develop that talent by giving you guys a chance to be the opening act at our next concert!"

The students cheered.

"And thanks to the kind authorisation of your principal, we've organised an audition for this afternoon in your gymnasium!"

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

"Now, where did it go?" asked Odd to himself as he rushed into his room. "I'm positive I put it here!"

Odd's possessions were sent everywhere.

"Since when do you put any if your things away Odd?" asked Ulrich as he and Yumi watched him.

"Ha ha. Very funny." Odd twisted to look at Ulrich. "You could give me a hand."

"If you told us what you were looking for, we could give you a hand," said Yumi.

"My CD demo. I have to play it to Chris."

Yumi pulled out a CD from under Kiwi.

"Well, you did out it away. In Kiwi's draw."

Odd snatched it from her and stoked Kiwi. "Thanks! My adorable diggity dog. Glory and fame are just around the corner. I hope not too many kids show up."

Gym

"Uh, you were saying?" asked Ulrich as they looked at the long line of students.

Aelita's dorm

Aelita searched her room. She pulled out a box of CDs and dumped them on her bed.

"There you are." She giggled and picked up a CD called Aelita's remix. Aelita walked to the door and bumped into Jeremy. "Jeremy, it's you."

"Yeah. Aelita, I was thinking. Since Delmas cancelled classes today, we could make some headway on our new virtual ship."

"Well, I'd like to but…"

"Oh no, c'mon, don't tell me you're going to waste your time going to that audition. Imagine what Xana might be plotting on the network even while we're talking. We've gotta find a way to travel there, and I was counting on you, Aelita," said Jeremy as he saw the CD.

"Don't be like that Jeremy," said Harry as he poked his head in. "If she wants to go, let her. We know that Xana plans to use those copies of his for something."

"Alright, I won't go," said Aelita as she pocketed the CD.

Gym

"This is taking a long time," moaned Odd as they slowly moved along the line.

"Of course it is," said Yumi. "The Subdigitals are popular."

"I just wish everyone would hurry up," said Sissi as she stood just ahead of them. "We have things to do."

"Odd, don't worry. You'll see. Your mix will blow everyone away," said Yumi.

"Yeah, as long as you don't bust our eardrums," said Ulrich.

"Hey, man, with friends like you who needs enemies?" asked Odd. "Thanks for your support, Ulrich."

Gym

"Thank you, uh, Matthias? Is that right?" asked Chris as the boy finished.

"Uhh, yeah..."

"Next!"

Later

Odd placed his CD into the slot.

"Uh, hello. My name is Odd Della Robbia and I'd think I'd better explain that my music is a little exper9mental. Uh, pretty different. Anyway, you're going to love it."

Chris raised an eyebrow.

Harry's and Jeremy's dorm

"You see, this is where I'm stumped," said Jeremy. No one was listening. "I can't seem to understand the nature of the transitional interface between Lyoko and the network. Even though I've been over and over the flux… Hey! Aelita! Are you listening to me?"

"Um, I'm sorry. Can you say that again?"

"Sorry Jeremy but you talk too much," said Harry as he glanced up from his laptop.

"Never mind. There might be a way. I discovered that we could reconfigure the navigation parameters and relative function to the frequency of the flux…"

Aelita started into space.

Gym

"And there you go," said Odd as he took the headphones off.

"Um, well, um I…"

Ulrich and Yumi looked at each other.

"Odd! Odd Della Robbia! And what you just heard is just a little taste of what I can do! I swear I've got lots of other tracks! You want to hear them?" asked Odd.

"Some other time maybe. Thanks a lot, uh, Odd."

Odd walked off the stage and put the CD on the pile.

"I was good, wasn't I?"

"Well, you gave it your best shot. That's the main thing," said Yumi as they walked away.

"One thing's for sure. You said it was different and you weren't lying," said Ulrich.

"Well now, kid. Have you found a future star?" asked Jim as he walked over to Chris.

"I'd rather not talk about it, Uncle Jim."

Harry's and Jeremy's dorm

"What do you mean, system error?" asked Jeremy. "Ok. Don't blow your cool Jeremy. We'll just shift the polarity of the contact flux and… uh… hand me those figures."

He turned to Aelita who had fallen asleep. Harry had gone to stretch his legs.

"Are you ok Aelita?"

"Huh? Something wrong?"

"It's ok. I can finish up on my own. If you want to go, you can go."

"Are you sure?" asked Aelita.

"Yeah. I think I know what's holding us up. Where's Harry? He's been a while."

"He'll turn up. I'll be off then. See you later." Aelita put her laptop down and ran out the room.

Outside

Harry froze and spun around. "You want me for something Chris? Or is it Xana?"

The clone smirked and advanced on Harry who backed away.

"Ok. You're not one for talking. Wide open area. OW!"

The clone electrocuted him. Harry gritted his teeth.

"I should have been able to dodge that." His knees buckled and he fell to the floor. "Of course. Neutralising my powers so I turn normal so it's easy to bring me in. That's brilliant. I so have to work out how you did that so I can block it."

The clone electrocuted him again and kept the flow going until Harry collapsed to the floor unconscious.

Outside the Gym

"It's not that simple. It's all part of this promotional operation. If we don't bring the record company some new talent, they'll be down on me like a ton of bricks. They've already made us change our name," said Chris sadly.

"Don't worry, my boy. There's gotta be a youngster around here with a ton of talent."

"A few words for the Kadic news?" asked Milly as she ran over. "Just one or two questions."

"Can I have an autograph Chris?"

Gym

Aelita ran into the gym.

"I'm too late."

She looked at the mixing board.

Outside

"When's your next concert?"

"Are you working on a new album?"

"Sign my notebook!"

"Ok, he can't answer your questions if you're all talking at once," said Jim as he tried to calm them down. "Let's try one at a time."

Music emanated from the gym.

"Hold on! Quiet down! That's fantastic. It's what I've been looking for all day today," said Chris excitedly as he heard it. He ran into the gym. "Hey, I, uh…"

It was empty.

"Oh no. I'm too late…"

Odd

"Compared to the rest of the completions, I have a good chance of getting picked, don't you think?" asked Odd. "Just thinking about being the opening for the Subdigitals gives me the chills."

"Odd, it's not in the bag just yet," said Ulrich as Sissi walked over.

"Have you seen Harry?"

"Not for a while," said Ulrich. "I'm sure he's around. Have you checked his room?"

"He's not there."

"You guys want a scoop?" asked Milly as she and Tamiya walked over.

"Chris finally found the opening act he was looking for," said Tamiya.

"I knew it! Fame, fortune, and glory are all mine now!" yelled Odd

"Forget about it. No one knows who it is. Not even Chris," said Milly.

"What? But how can that be?" asked Odd in disbelief. "I didn't stop repeating my name!"

"No, it happened after the auditions. All he did was hear the music. He didn't see the DJ," explained Tamiya.

"I don't believe it!"

"He went to see the principal to see if he could find Miss Cinderella, whoever he or she is," said Milly. Aelita ran past. "Huh? What's a matter with her?"

"Well, when you gotta go, you gotta go, I guess."

Harry's and Jeremy's dorm

"Oh no. a Xana attack!"

Jeremy pulled out his mobile and called Ulrich.

"Jeremy?"

"The Superscan has just picked up an activated tower. We've got to get to the factory fast."

"Ok but Aelita just took off and no one knows where she went. Any sign of Harry?"

"No. I'm getting worried. Wait for me under the arches. I'll check her room and call Harry."

Outside

Aelita ran up the path when Chris walked by with harry on his shoulder. He glanced at her and sprinted away.

"Hey Chris," called Milly as he past them. "I bet you found out who your mystery DJ is. Huh?"

They stared.

Elsewhere

Aelita ran over to the rest of the group and doubled over panting.

"Aelita! What's wrong?" asked Jeremy as he ran over. "I couldn't contact Harry. He wasn't answering."

"It's Harry. Chris had him unconscious on his shoulder."

"And Xana's attacking," said Jeremy "He went after Harry."

Milly and Tamiya slumped against the wall a distance away.

"You look like you're in shock. Did Herb say something intelligent for once?" asked Yumi as they walked over.

"Chris just kidnapped Harry," said Tamiya.

"What?" asked Jeremy as he glanced at Aelita.

"Yeah, we saw him pass by with Harry on his shoulder," said Milly. "He was totally weird like the mad killer in Executioner 2!"

"Shouldn't we call the police?" asked Tamiya.

"Uh, I wouldn't do that," said Sissi. "It would be for the video. They're doing this science fiction thing with robots."

"Right, we have to go now," said Jeremy.

"What's this about Chris kidnapping someone?" asked Jim as he strode over with the real Chris. "I overheard you."

"Sorry, Jim, but we don't have time. We hafta…" said Ulrich. Aelita blushed.

"Well we happen to be in a hurry too. We tried to find out who the DJ is," said Chris. "Do you know who it is?"

"Well, yeah, no, it's a friend of mine. Aelita," said Odd as he pointed at her. Aelita glared at him.

"What's your last name?" asked Chris.

"What's the difference?" asked Ulrich. "My brother is in danger, and that's why we're in such a big hurry."

"What do you mean in danger? What's this all about?" asked Chris.

"It's a long story," said Sissi. "One we don't have time for now."

"Take us to him immediately!" ordered Jim. "Unless you'd rather settle this in the principal's office!"

The group looked at each other and nodded.

"Okay then. Come with us. But let me warn you about two things. Try to avoid asking any questions and get ready for a work-out," said Ulrich.

"Works for me, Stern. There's no work that I like better than working out."

Lyoko

Harry groaned as he woke up.

"What happened?" He looked around and groaned again as he saw the smoke surrounding him. "William. Of course. The spectre would have taken me to Lyoko."

"You're awake." William continued to control his movement.

"There's no chance you'd just let me go, is there?"

"No."

Harry closed his eyes and tried to free himself but failed. "Why am I so weak? Are my powers taken away again?"

William paused. "They will be returned."

"Yeah, when I'm under Xana's control." Harry looked around the forest. "Why did you bring me to the same sector that the activated tower's in?"

William didn't respond as he stayed in his spot. A Scyphozoa floated over.

"Uh oh." Harry tried to struggle but William just turned him upright.

"Sleep."

Harry's eyes closed slowly as the boy fought off sleep. Eventually he succumbed. William let him go as the Scyphozoa wrapped its tentacles around Harry. William then took up a guard position along with two Krabes.

Lab

The group ran in. Jeremy looked at the map.

"Oh no. Harry! Too late."

"Let's go."

"Where are they going?" asked Jim as everyone but him, Chris and Jeremy left.

"No time Jim. Harry is about to be possessed. Transfer Aelita. Transfer Ulrich. Transfer Sissi. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Sissi. Scanner Ulrich. Virtualisation. Transfer Odd. Transfer Yumi. Scanner Odd. Scanner Yumi. Virtualisation."

"What is this place?" asked Jim. "A mad scientist's hideout?"

Lyoko

"Where are they Jeremy?" asked Odd as they looked around.

"Over there," said Sissi as she pointed. Ulrich looked at her.

"You still look like a fairy. A fairy in pink spandex and see though wings that are tinted pink."

"Uh, thanks. I think. I wish Harry would get rid of the spandex."

They ran and Yumi threw her fans at William who blocked them.

"You may be possessed by Xana, but you're still a rookie on Lyoko, William," called Yumi as William glared at her. Several more Krabes appeared.

"Attack."

"Uh, is it me or is William guarding Harry?" asked Aelita as she threw an energy field at a Krabe and destroyed it.

"It looks like it," said Jeremy. "I think he doesn't want Harry to be freed."

Sissi flew up and shot a Krabe as Ulrich charged William. William blocked Ulrich swords and kicked him. Ulrich staggered back. Harry's eyes flickered open and the Scyphozoa dropped him. William strode over to him and knelt down. Odd hit the last Krabe and they stared at the two.

"What are they doing?" asked Sissi.

"I think they're talking," said Ulrich. "Remember what Harry said? They could see each other's memories so it's possible that they could communicate in the same way."

William stood and helped Harry up.

"Try to get to the activated tower while they're distracted," said Jeremy. "I'll try to bring up a vehicle."

"You don't sound very hopeful," said Sissi as they slipped around the two boys. William and Harry followed them.

Lab

The clone entered the lab.

"Who's that guy over there? A stunt double or a clone?" asked Chris as he saw his double.

"A polymorphic spectre," said Jeremy as if that explained everything.

"Yeah, well spectre or not, he's not getting my autograph!"

"Hey, hands off my nephew, pal. Now you'll see what it's like to mess with an old Special Forces agent," said Jim as he grabbed the clone. The clone turned to smoke and slipped out of Jim's grasp. It knocked Jim out.

"Hey, what's going on around here?" asked Chis as he hit the clone.

"We told you not to ask any questions!"

Lyoko

"Jeremy? Where's that vehicle, huh?" asked Yumi as they ran. "The old William was hard to get rid of, but this one is a lot worse. Not to mention Harry."

Yumi threw her fans and used telekinesis on them. William sung his sword and missed, causing him to overbalance. The fans came back and Harry pulled William out of the way.

"Aelita, get out of here," said Ulrich as he pulled out his swords. "With Harry under Xana's control, you're the only one who can deactivate it. Ah!"

Harry stabbed him and smiled as he flaked apart. Aelita passed her hand over bracelet and her wings appeared. She flew off.

Harry and William shared a look and Harry ran after her.

Lab

Jim woke up. "I'll get rid of that imposter!" He charged.

"No! Uncle Jim!"

The clone changed into Jim.

Lyoko

William attacked and narrowly missed Yumi.

"I sense Harry in this," said Odd as he aimed and fired. William dodged.

"This isn't' William's normal fighting style," said Yumi as she flipped into a log. "I think Harry's influencing him."

William followed her and used super smoke to knock her down. He hit her with his sword then closed his eyes. Sissi fired at him. She devirtualised as Harry flickered into view and removed his sword. William nodded. Odd aimed.

Lab

"You don't have to be a math genius to know that there's one too many Jims here. Reminds me of the time I fought against Hurricane Windstorm in Vegas back in '94! The third round I just w…"

"Oh, I'm sorry, I uh..." said Chris as he hit the real Jim by accident.

"How are you guys doing?" asked Jeremy. "We've got our hands full here, and if this keeps up, the Subdigitals are going to need a new drummer."

"We're doing our best, Einstein! Harry and William are defeating us like I eat meals!" yelled Odd as Harry walked over to him. "Okay, let's get down to business! Laser arrow!"

Harry moved out of the way.

"Harry! Fight back," called Odd as he fired again. "You're our friend, remember? And you promised to free William. How are you going to do that if you're under Xana's control?"

"Manta!"

The monster flew up behind Odd as the two boys advanced on him.

"There has to be a way to free him," muttered Jeremy. Ulrich, Yumi and Sissi arrived and froze as they saw the fight.

Aelita

Aelita jumped off the Overwing and ran over to the tower. She froze when she heard a chuckle.

"Harry…"

Harry hit her with a jet of smoke and guided her over to the edge of the path.

"Harry, don't do this."

Harry cocked his head.

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Family members don't hurt each other."

Harry shook his head. "That's not true."

A pink ball rose from the digital sea and shot towards Harry. It engulfed him and Aelita grabbed the edge of the path as the smoke holding her disappeared.

"Daddy…"

The pink ball slipped back into the digital sea and Aelita ran into the tower. She rose to the second platform.

William glanced in the direction of the tower as Harry disappeared.

"Looks like Harry has been freed," said Odd in relief. "Don't worry William. We'll be back, fighting you. You'll have another chance."

"Super smoke!"

William shot away.

Harry

"Ah, my head." Harry rubbed it as he sat up and looked around the room. "Where am I? This isn't Lyoko."

"It is and it isn't."

Harry stood up and turned to face the voice. "Uncle!"

He hugged him. "I'm so glad to see you. What happened?"

"I'm sure you remember."

Harry closed his eyes. "I was Xanafied… Aelita! How is she?"

"She's fine. She deactivated the tower." Harry sighed in relief. "I'm impressed with you."

"What?" asked Harry in confusion.

"I never expected you to be able to throw of Xana's influence for so long and be as sane as you are. Not many people could do that."

Harry sighed. "It's getting so tempting."

Franz smiled. "That's because Xana has been slipping you codes to make you come to him. He did it when you were connected to…. What do you call it? The Scyphozoa?"

Harry nodded. "I just feel so helpless. I had the compulsion to join Xana and I can't figure out how to free William."

"Your black haired friend? Sometimes the answers are just under your nose." Franz glanced around. "It's time for you to go back.

"What?"

"I removed Xana's codes from you and restored your powers that you use on Earth. We'll see each other around."

A bright light covered them.

Lab

The clone disappeared.

"Belpois, I want an explanation right now! What is going on? And what in the world is all this equipment for?" asked Jim.

"I would, but I'm getting tired of explaining it to you, Jim. 'Cuz in 10 seconds, you won't remember any of it anyway," said Jeremy as he set up the return to the past.

"Not so fast! First tell me who Aelita is," said Chris.

"Return to the past now!"

Earlier

"I finally figured out what was wrong with my demo," said Odd as they stood in the line again. "I didn't put a series of scratches in the second break. You'll see. I'll do a lot better this time."

Harry's and Jeremy's dorm

Harry yawned then looked at the others. "Quit staring at me. I'm not all brainwashed and crazy anymore and I'm not about to give myself up to Xana. He was slipping me codes. You can thank Uncle Franz for that."

"Well, I guess Xana's attack gave us another free afternoon to work on our virtual ship," said Jeremy as he relaxed. Aelita nodded as there was a knock on the door. "Come in!"

"Excuse me, I'm looking for Aelita Stones," said Chris.

"Uh... that's me, but..." said Aelita.

"I'm really glad to meet you, Aelita! I heard your demo and I think it's really great! Can we go over to the gym? I'd love to hear it live!"

"I'd like to, but I'm not sure I can."

"Go on! It's an offer you can't refuse," encouraged Jeremy.

"You'll be great," said Harry.

"Okay, then! Let's go!" said a happy Aelita. "By the way, how did you get a hold of my demo?"

"Oh, one of your friends gave it to me."

Harry turned to Jeremy and raised an eyebrow.
