Crash course

"Hey, Odd ought to be here already. We were supposed to play table football," said Ulrich impatiently as they waited.

"You know Odd, something probably came up at the last second," said Yumi.

"I'll bet he's afraid to show up! If I know Odd, he's hiding somewhere 'because he knows I'll beat him!"

"If you ask me, it might just be that redhead with braids," said Aelita as she looked at Odd sitting on a bench with a girl.

"Well what do you know?" asked Ulrich. "Our ladies' man is at it again!"

Rec room

"Aw, you know, life isn't bad at all," said Odd as he sat down on a settee and put his hands behind his head.

"I didn't know you split up with Melanie, Odd," said Aelita as she held a can.

"Who's she? Oh yeah, Melanie, right…well uh…she wasn't very…uh, she was just a little too…well, actually a lot more, well…you see what I mean?" asked Odd as he shifted nervously.

"No."

"What I see is that you collect girlfriends like other people collect stamps," said Ulrich.

"He has a point," said Harry.

"Hey! I tell you it is for real this time! Believe me, Camille, she's it. She's the one! She's so funny, sensitive, and really cool too!"

"Yeah, just like all the girls you fall for," said Ulrich as he smiled.

"Maybe, but Camille has something special the others don't. Well, she's crazy about dogs!"

Ulrich choked on his soft drink while Yumi, Harry, Sissi and Aelita laughed.

"What's so funny?" asked Odd.

"And that makes all the difference in the world?" asked Yumi.

"Yeah! And we're going to the movies this afternoon!"

"To see what?" asked Ulrich.

"We're going to see something real romantic and intellectual. The picture's called "Petals of Desire"." The five others laughed. "The problem with you guys is that you have no sense of romance and no intellect!"

"Speaking of intellect, anyone seen Jeremy?" asked Ulrich.

"He went back to his room," said Aelita. "I think he has a few problems."

Harry's and Jeremy's dorm

"The only problem I have is our friend Xana. You remember the last few times he attacked?" asked Jeremy.

"Which time? The one with the trees or at the swimming pool?" asked Odd.

"Odd! We agreed not to bring up that day at the pool, right?" asked Ulrich.

"Why? What happened at the swimming pool, huh?" asked Aelita.

Yumi and Ulrich blushed and looked away.

"Nothing."

"Uh…nothing at all."

"Whatever. I meant all the attacks that Xana has launched recently," said Jeremy. "Haven't you noticed who the target has been?"

"Yeah, us," said Odd as he put his hands in the air.

"He does like to attack us," said Sissi.

"Yes but especially Harry, Aelita and me. It just so happens that we're the only ones that can use the supercomputer."

"Come on. We've all done it," said Ulrich dismissively.

"I haven't," said Sissi.

"You have, you just don't remember it," said Harry. "And Xana targeting me is no surprise. You know he wants to turn me into what amounts to a slave. I'm expecting him to send the Scyphozoa to earth again."

"Following our instructions. What would happen if we weren't around to give you instructions? Xana wins hands down. Which is why I'm giving all of you a crash course on using the Supercomputer this afternoon," said Jeremy.

"Oh no. Please no!" Harry disappeared in a flash of light.

"Has he been kidnapped again by that Dumbledore fellow?" asked Ulrich.

"Probably," said Aelita. "Tell Sirius."

"Well, you can count me out for later," said Odd. "I'm going to the movies."

"And I have a test to study for," said Yumi.

"And I have Pencak Silat practice," said Ulrich.

"If you guys have better things to do then I can't force you to come. But then, don't expect us to gain ground on Xana."

"But you know, some days it isn't easy being heroes," said Yumi.

"Then we'll meet after lunch and if you pick it up quickly, it will be over in a couple of hours, ok?"

"Ok."

The four walked out.

"Uh, Jeremy? I…I can't make it this afternoon," said Aelita quietly.

"Huh? Why not?" asked Jeremy in confusion.

"Um, I've got my audition with the Subdigitals. You know, for the concert…today's the final round of try-outs," explained Aelita.

"But that's impossible. What if something happens to me while you're gone?" asked Jeremy.

"That's not a problem. While you teach everyone how to use the supercomputer, I'll keep my phone on. If Xana attacks, I'll be back in no time. And I'm sure Harry will sort out the mess he's in."

"Ok, maybe you're right. I worry too much. Go ahead. I can manage without you."

Aelita kissed him on the cheek.

Harry

Harry groaned as his sight recovered. "You really had to bring me here, didn't you?"

People stood up to get a better look at him. Whispers broke out.

"Harry my boy..."

"I'm not your boy! Send me back please."

"I'm afraid I can't do that. Your name came out of the goblet of fire." Dumbledore indicated the wooden chip. "You have been chosen to compete in the Triwizard tournament. Step through the door please."

He pointed at a door.

"No."

People murmured.

"Harry, you have to. Your name coming out of the cup makes a binding magical contract."

Harry studied the cup closely then used a few spells.

"Well, I can tell that this contract is subjective. It only works if the person who name comes out is willing to compete, which I'm not. Also, how did my name get into the goblet? I don't come here, considering I'm French. May I see that?"

He snatched the slip of parchment out of Dumbledore's hand.

"What is zis?" asked a giantess.

"And my name isn't Harry Potter. I never signed up."

"Arrogant boy, just like your father," sneered Snape.

"I never knew my birth father so your assumption doesn't have any basis Snape."

"Not Harry Potter? Preposterous," said an old man.

"You are?" asked Harry as he rubbed his head. "And I just want to get back to normality. School work, hanging out with my friends, the occasional Xana attack, things like that."

"My name is Bartemius Crouch. These are Ludo Bagman, Madame Maxine and Igor Karkaroff."

"My name is Harry Stern." Everyone focused on a spot behind Harry. "Please don't tell me there's a black haired boy dressed in black behind me."

Kadic

"So much for my training," moaned Ulrich as they walked under the arches.

"What about me?" asked Yumi. "I'm going to flunk another exam. It's bad enough that Harry isn't here."

"My palms are shot to pieces with Harry gone," said Sissi as she glanced around. "I'm going to look for Sirius. See ya."

She wandered off.

"How am I going to tell Camille that "Petals of Desire" is out for today?" asked Odd.

"Think about it, Odd, you're better off! You don't have to pay all that money to sleep through two hours of a film," said Ulrich as he grinned.

"It's a lot better than sleeping through a class given by our friend Einstein," muttered Odd.

Lab

"Ok, to start off, I'm going to go through a little bit of theory. I've printed you off a small list of basic functions to prepare you…"

"Wait a minute Einstein," interrupted Odd as they took the paper. "Wouldn't it be easier if we went straight to the practical side?"

"Odd, operating the supercomputer is not like a games console. Before I can trust you with the controls, I want to be sure you know this thing inside-out," explained Jeremy as the others looked at their papers sceptically. "Will you all relax? You'll see, guys, the theoretical stuff is actually a lot of fun!"

"Right, it's going to be a million laughs," said Ulrich sarcastically.

"I could use this time so much better," muttered Sissi.

Aelita

"Eyes on the prize," muttered Aelita as she found the right building. She walked to the door.

"Aelita! Nice of you to join us," said Chris as he opened it. "Let me introduce everyone. You already know nick and Benoit, my partners. This is Sophie who holds the purse strings."

He indicated the people when he introduced them.

"Hello Aelita."

"And that beast in the cage is Simon, our sound engineer."

He waved.

"And these are the other contestants."

They started the finals as the contestants said hello.

Lab

Yumi, Ulrich, Sissi and Odd sat against a wall, totally lost. Odd was asleep.

"And so if we export the virtual memory from the B block into inertial matrix, you can reconfigure the transfer files! This will let you delay the alignment of the quantum qubits. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this, any questions?" asked Jeremy.

"Yeah, I've got one. How do you expect us to remember any off this?" asked Ulrich.

"If you guys were a little more attentive, you'd be able to understand."

"Ulrich's right," said Yumi. "Stop trying to teach us everything you know. Just show us how to do the practical stuff like virtualising ourselves or bringing up the vehicles."

"Ok fine, I guess we may as well get to the practical end."

"A-are we there yet?" asked Odd as he woke up.

Harry

"Hello Harry. I hope you weren't trying to run from me."

Harry groaned and turned to face him. "Hello William. Still Xanafied I see. Me, run from you? Never! Well, not unless I have a good reason to."

"Did you expect anything else?" asked William with a raised eyebrow.

"Xanafied? What's that?" asked Hermione curiously.

"Not really. How did you find me?" Harry glanced at Hermione. "Xanafied is when someone has been possessed by Xana, a computer program. We're going to have to go back in time after this."

"I can always find you." William walked over and grabbed Harry's shoulders. "You will come with me."

"Harry, computer programs can't possess people," said Hermione. "Stop being stupid."

"Try telling that to Xana. If you want an example, look at William here. He used to be normal before getting captured. I blame myself. And why would I go with you William? You know that I don't want to serve Xana. I just hope they realise in time…"

"Who is this?" asked another teacher.

"His name is William. I just told you that."

"If you don't come with me, I will force you." William continued like there had been no interruption.

"I cannot allow you to take him," said Dumbledore as he raised his wand.

"No!"

"Stupefy!"

Lab

"Make sure you hit the right button! I'm ready, Ulrich. But I don't want to end up there with four arms and three legs," called Odd as he stepped into a scanner.

"Uh, ok, uhh. Transfer Odd. That right?"

Jeremy nodded and Ulrich started to type.

"Transfer Odd. Scanner Odd. And, uh, virtualisation."

"AAAH! You turned me into a garden gnome!" yelled Odd.

"Oh no!"

"Relax, just kidding! Everything's cool here!"

"Not so bad for a beginner, huh?"

"Yeah, not bad. You were confused there for a second and almost hit the wrong button Mr I Don't Need Any Theory."

"Are you never satisfied? Did I get him to Lyoko or not?"

"Yea because I was here with you. You weren't even under the stress of a Xana attack."

"Stop arguing," said Sissi as she shook her head. A tower activated.

"Give me my seat back!" Jeremy typed away. "An activated tower in the mountain sector. Head for the scanners. Hurry up!"

Harry

William turned into smoke and shot forward. Harry jumped in front of Dumbledore and blocked William's blade.

"That's enough William. Please stop attacking."

"He attacked first."

"Let's take this to Lyoko."

Harry slid backwards as William kicked him. Spells flew as everyone started to attack.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!"

Everyone froze as the shout echoed.

"Everyone, stop attacking. It will just make things worse."

Ron charged. William glanced at him then sidestepped. Ron ended on the floor with William holding him down.

"You're slow and weak. Not like Harry here."

"What makes him so special?" shouted Malfoy.

"He is important to Xana."

"I'm going now. Bye! Oh, and one last thing. Obliviate!"

Harry ran into a shadow and disappeared. William growled and exploded into pixels.

Lab

Smoke slipped down and formed into a man in black. Ulrich attacked him and got sent flying back. The spectre ripped a wire apart and electrocuted Jeremy as Harry appeared. He sent shuriken at it.

"Looks like I came just in time."

It faded away.

"It disappeared."

Aelita

"Well, take our breath away Aelita. It's all yours."

Aelita walked over to the mixing board and put the headphones on before starting to mix.

Lab

Yumi checked Jeremy's pulse.

"He's still alive but he took a lot of volts."

"Uh, guys? Remember me?" asked Odd. Harry started to check out what he could do and sighed in relief.

"I still have it."

"What happened to you anyway?" asked Sissi.

"Long story short, my birth name got entered in a tournament. I rejected it and William of all people turned up."

"Odd, I think we're in a big jam," said Ulrich as he put the headset on. "Xana attacked and sent a polymorphic spectre. Einstein's out cold but the other one is back."

"Get Harry to do it then."

Harry shook his head. "I can guide you but Jeremy is right. You need to practice."

"I'll text Aelita."

"Where's the tower?" asked Harry.

"The mountains," said Ulrich.

"And Odd?"

"In the ice sector," said Sissi.

"Just send me to a way tower," called Odd.

"Um…a Way Tower…oh, I know! To find a Way Tower, you have to bring up a radar window with these two keys," said Yumi as she pressed them. Harry shook his head.

"Hey! What're you doing?!" asked Odd. "Get it right!"

"Stop it! Hurry up," ordered Ulrich.

Yumi pressed them again and Harry pressed the right keys.

"Can you send me the Overboard?" asked Odd.

"Have you forgotten that I developed a program that let you do that on your own?" asked Harry.

"Oh, right."

The Overboard loaded.

"Any sign of Spectre Gadget?" asked Odd.

"Yeah, how come he disappeared like that?" asked Yumi.

"It was weird," said Sissi. "I would have thought that he'd go after Harry."

"Guess he had another date…" muttered Ulrich.

"Oh! Aelita! The spectre must have gone after her!"

Two more Harry's appeared and ran off.

"Odd? You've got some thingamajigs…heading your way," said Ulrich.

"They're Bloks Ulrich," said Harry.

"Huh? You're making progress Ulrich, but Harry's right, those "thingamajigs" are Bloks, and they don't look too friendly!" yelled Odd as he ran towards them and fired but missed. "I don't believe it!"

One hit Odd's tail.

Aelita

"That's it, I'm done," said Aelita as she took off the headphones.

"Thanks a lot you three. Just give us a few seconds to talk it over."

Aelita checked her phone. "Oh no."

"Aelita has got to be our choice," said Chris.

"Oh yeah, no doubt about that."

"Well, we've made our decision. Aelita… where is she?"

Aelita had gone.

Lyoko

"Where is this way tower?" asked Odd as he rode the Overboard. He fired again and destroyed the middle Blok.

"Do you want any help?" asked Harry. "I can come over if you wanted me to."

"I'm fine," said Odd. "This Ice floe sure is deserted though…"

Town

Aelita ran before noticing the spectre. She changed direction. It followed and they past a corner where Harry knocked it over. A car drove along the road and passed through it. The three ran away as the driver checked up on the spectre. It threw him down the road and climbed in his car.

Lab

"Harry, can you just do this?" asked Ulrich. "You know how to use the computer."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Well, getting us to the mountain sector would be a start," said Sissi.

"Where we'll meet an annoyed William," said Harry as he took control. "He did follow me to Hogwarts where I escaped him."

"Just transfer us," said Yumi as they hit the button for the elevator. "Then get yourself over there."

"Fiiinnneee. Transfer Yumi. Transfer Sissi. Transfer Ulrich. Scanner Yumi. Scanner Ulrich. Scanner Sissi. Virtualisation."

He quickly set up the delayed virtualisation program and ran to a scanner.

Lyoko

They jogged towards the tower and hid behind a rock.

"Let me take William," whispered Harry. "I have a plan for getting him free. Granted it's a terrible plan and probably won't work."

"Yoohoo, guess who!" Ulrich jumped, drew his sabres and almost sliced Aelita. "Whoa! What's on the menu?"

"Usual stuff. A whole seafood platter over there. And William's the lemon," said Ulrich. "Harry has a plan which we have no idea of the specifics apart from the fact it won't work."

"It's still worth a try," said Harry with a shrug.

"You sure took your time," said Yumi as Odd turned up.

"Yeah, but at least I got here. And no thanks to you!"

"I'm pretty sure that the spectre's in the computer lab," said Harry as he listened. "Someone needs to go back."

"Ok, shoot me," said Sissi. "I'm the weakest."

"I should go," said Odd. "I've lost the most life points and everyone else is on full health."

"I should go," said Ulrich.

"What's more, that's exactly what we did during the swimming pool attack!" continued Odd.

"I don't ever want to hear about the swimming pool attack again!" Ulrich unsheathed his sabres and devirtualised Odd. "That'll teach ya, huh."

They ran down the path.

"This is going to be a close one," said Aelita as she and Ulrich rode the Overbike. William pointed his sword at Harry.

"You won't escape me again!"

"Well, I'm not going anywhere until the tower's deactivated," said Harry as he stood in front of him.

Ulrich flipped off the Overbike and landed on top of a Krabe. He stabbed it.

"Whatever you're planning Harry, get on with it!"

William swung his sword at Harry who blocked it.

"You're one of us William. A Lyoko Warrior. Remember?"

William dropped his sword as he clutched his head before convulsing as William struggled against Xana.

"I know it's hard William but you're the only one who has any right to your body. You have a life to lead without Xana. I will always be your friend."

"Harry…. What happened?"

Everyone stared before defeating the monsters and surrounding them.

"That was your plan?" asked Aelita. "Break him out of it by talking?"

"William? What's the last thing you remember? I have to make sure Xana's not playing a trick on us."

"The last thing I remember was getting grabbed by that jellyfish thing."

The Scyphozoa screeched as it advanced on William who backed away as he freaked out.

"Well, at least we know he's free," said Sissi as she shot it. "Xana wouldn't set that thing onto William if he was under Xana's control.

Harry looked at Aelita who ran into the tower before he stabbed William. He flaked into pixels.

"Well, let's go back to earth," said Harry with a smile. "And see how William is."

Lab

"What happened?" asked Jeremy as he woke up.

"Well, Xana sent a spectre," said Harry as he helped Jeremy up. "And we have a surprise."

"What surprise?" asked Jeremy. Harry pointed. "William? Is he free?"

"Yep," said Harry with a smile. "He's free. I know. Xana is no longer present within him."

"Uh, hello," said William awkwardly. Jeremy looked at Harry.

"Harry broke him out of it by talking," said Yumi.

"I'm, sorry for being an idiot," said William. "What now?"

"Well, that depends," said Yumi with a shared look.

"On what?"

"Do you swear to keep this a secret?" asked Harry. William gaped.

"You're serious?"

"No, that's my godfather."

Everyone burst out laughing at William's confused expression.

"You're letting me stay?"

"Well, Harry said it could happen to anyone," said Yumi as she hugged him. "It even happened to him."

Harry sat down at the computer. "Better make some changes to your avatar. I doubt you want to be reminded of your time as Xana's servant. And I'd better deactivate the clone. We don't want two of you running around."

Kadic

"Well, you managed to pull through in the end," said Jeremy. "Even if you did have to get Harry's help."

"Does that mean you trust us?" asked Yumi with a smile.

"A bit."

"Well, that's good news" said Aelita. "Because the day after tomorrow, it'll be gone all day. The Subdigitals chose me to be the opening act for their concert! Even though I walked out on them."

"That's fabulous Aelita. Well done. Though not as good as Harry brining back William with just the power of words," said Jeremy as he sent a look at Harry. William rubbed his head.

"I'm sorry about what I did, even though I don't remember."

"Don't sweat it," said Odd. "Harry knows what it's like to be Xanafied. It's more like being told what to do and then being forced to do it."

"By the way, Odd, how was "Petals of Desire"?" asked Ulrich.

"Well it was lame. What's more, I broke up with Camille. I'm over all that romantic stuff. You know, I'm more into action, like the day of the swimming pool attack for instance."

"Mm…Odd, don't talk about the swimming pool, ok?" asked Yumi.

"Hey, don't tell me you're never going to tell us what happened at the pool, huh…" Aelita trailed off.

"I'd quite like to know too," said William.

"Well…"

"Well it's simple really, uh, let's see now…you remember the attack in the gymnasium?" asked Odd.

"Odd, we told you never to bring up the attack in the gym, right?" asked Jeremy.

"Why? What happened in the gym?" asked Ulrich. Aelita and Jeremy blushed

"Oh, nothing."

"Nothing at all!"

"Hello Harry," said Sirius as he popped up. "I see you made your own way back."

"Yep." Harry smiled. "Obliviated the whole lot of them too."

Sirius glanced at William and then looked again.

"You freed him?"

"Well, Harry did it by talking," said Sissi.

"Can you stop bringing it up?" asked Harry as he rubbed his head.
