Lab Rat

Harry yawned as he stared blankly at the table.

"What's the big news?" asked Odd as Jeremy and Aelita sat down with their lunch. "We can't wait to hear it!"

"I found it, at last!"

"What, how to build up your muscles without any exercising?" joked Odd. Sissi turned her laugh into a cough as Jeremy's eyebrows twitched.

"Funny," said an annoyed Jeremy. "No, I figured out how to materialise you onto Earth from the network. It was easier than I thought it would be. I applied the synchronicity principle to the supercomputer to develop an energy projection and Harry helped me with the program. I think Xana created his own worst enemy."

"In English then, you now know how to send us to earth from inside the network."

"Exactly!"

"You understood Einstein's babble?" asked Ulrich in surprise as Jeremy took a drink.

"After all this time I'm finally starting to get the hang of swampum physics!" exclaimed Odd. "Harry helped."

"Quantum," corrected Jeremy.

"Yeah, well it's still muddy though!"

"Does that mean you can bring up anywhere from the Skid?" asked Ulrich.

"Not anywhere but I can do it nearby a supercomputer generating a copy," explained Jeremy."It's what I call teleportation."

Later

"Hi guys, what's up?" called Yumi as Jeremy and Aelita walked out the lunch hall.

"Are you ready to go and blow up a supercomputer?" asked Aelita.

"You can get us to the real world from the network?" asked Yumi in surprise.

"Yeah, we're all meeting at the factory tonight to try it out, ok?" asked Jeremy.

"You got it!"

"Uh, Yumi?" asked Ulrich as he walked over. "I wanted to ask you something."

"Hmph!" Yumi ignored him and stalked away after Aelita and Jeremy..

"I'm sorry for forgetting your birthday," called Ulrich.

"What was that about?" asked Odd.

"I forgot her birthday. I need a present to make up for it. I'll ask Harry to get me something. I would do it myself but I have detention."

"I was wondering when you were going to ask me for that," said Harry from thin air.

"Harry, can you please not sneak up on people?" asked Ulrich as Harry reappeared.

"Sorry." Sending Ulrich a cheeky smile, Harry headed towards the dorms.

"What's their problem?" asked Sirius as Harry passed him.

"Ulrich forgot Yumi's birthday."

Flashback

"Stern, how many times do I have to tell you that a flounder is not a flying fish? So there's no reason to throw it at the window, especially when the window is open, and when I happen to be there!" lectured Jim. "So I've got one word for you, and that's two hours of study hall!"

"You're making a mistake, I swear to you, Jim!"

"Well Stern, you're right. This time, I did make a mistake. It's not two hours, but four hours of study hall! And if you keep baiting me, I'll make sure that you don't get off the hook for eight hours!"

End flashback

"Thanks to Jim I've got four hours of detention! And then we have Chardin's class, and..." explained Ulrich.

"No sweat! I got to go get a few things for Kiwi, and while I'm out, I'll pick up a little present for Yumi!"

"Really? You'd do that for me? asked Ulrich gratefully. "That means I have two presents to give to Yumi."

"Yeah, sure! Besides, I owe you one. In case you didn't know, the flying fish thing was me," said Odd as he dusted his trousers.

"IT WAS?!" yelled an annoyed Ulrich. "And you let me take the blame?!"

"I-I was laughing too hard to tell Jim!"

"Oh Odd, you know I ought to…!" The bell rang before Ulrich could complete his threat. Nervously waving at Ulrich, Odd walked off.

Later

Running into the factory, Odd pulled out a bag as the others swung down.

"Hey will you stop hating me Ulrich? Here, this should get you on the good side of your girlfriend."

"What is it?" asked Ulrich as he took the bag.

"A surprise."

"Hey, will you guys hurry up?" yelled Sissi. "Do you know that I could easily tell my father about tis?"

"We're coming," Odd yelled back. "We're not factory workers!"

"Technically, we are," said Ulrich. He stood next to Yumi who ignored him.

"How did your classes go today?"

"Alright."

Later

The Skid flew out of sector five and dived into the digital sea.

"I'm entering the coordinates of the replika. there's a hub at 045."

"Ok Jeremy."

"Replika here we come!"

"Can someone shut him up?" asked Ulrich.

"Why? He's nice at least," said Yumi.

"Ulrich and my in-law are fighting!"

"Well, they're talking," said Odd.

Staring out at the network, Harry sighed. "Yumi, can't you just forgive him?"

"NO!"

"You don't need to shout," said Sissi. "Harry can hear you just fine."

"Thank you Sissi."

The Skid entered the hub.

"You should be able to see the replika."

"We see it. I'm heading for the entry portal." Aeltia pressed buttons. "Digital key activated. I'm sending you the signal."

"Roger. I'm opening it up."

Harry slipped inside s the lock opened. The Skid followed. Rubbing his eyes, Harry squinted.

"There's an activated tower on the replika."

"Xana up to no good again," sighed Aelita. "Near the supercomputer that the replika is located on. I wonder what he's up to..."

"How about we give the teleportation a try?" asked Ulrich.

"That was what I was thinking. You'll have to moor the Skid and the Lightning to a tower. Different towers."

"Oh joy," muttered Harry. "That means that I'll have to activate the defences."

"The Lighting has defences?" asked Odd ."You really like going overboard on things Harry."

"Really? Hadn't noticed."

They separated.

"And don't back seat drive Jeremy."

"Skid secured."

"Same over here."

"Just let me activate the towers," muttered Jeremy. "Ok guys, it's time. Ready for Teleportation?"

"Ready to go, Einstein!" called Ulrich.

"Teleportation!"

Aelita, Odd and Harry disappeared.

"It didn't work, Jeremy, I'm still here!" complained Ulrich.

"That's normal. I forgot to tell you that this time I decided to only energise Aelita, Harry and Odd. I'd rather you stay with Yumi and Sissi to protect the Skid and Lightning. If it's anything like our last experiment, Xana will be sending you a welcoming committee in no time flat," explained Jeremy.

"If you'd have told us before, we could've chosen sides ourselves!"

Staring out the window, Ulrich sighed.

"You sound really happy to be with me," said Yumi.

"That wasn't what I meant Yumi. I told you I was sorry."

"Ok, you guys know the procedure. I'll put you ashore while I get a little work done. Aelita, Odd, Harry, d'you read me? Uh, Aelita? Odd? Harry? …Aelita! Odd! Harry! Oh, I wish I knew what was happening…"

"COOL EINSTEIN, IT WORKS!" yelled Odd.

"Ah! Glad to hear it, but that's no reason to blow out my eardrum! Ok, where are you?" asked Jeremy.

Listening closely, Harry crouched down to a root and watched some ants running over it.

"You're not going to believe this, but we're in the jungle!"

"And it's daytime here!" imputed Aelita.

"Even the ants are different."

"I get it, you're in a different time zone. You're in the Amazon region, it seems," said Jeremy.

"Wow, that's exciting!"

"But we're dressed like on Lyoko, how come?" asked Odd as he looked at himself.

"Because the Teleportation isn't a real devirtualisation. Those aren't your real human forms that I materialised onto Earth, but they..." explained Jeremy.

"Whoa, whoa, slow down, Frankeinstein. Are you trying to tell us that we're not really us?" asked Odd.

"Yes, you're you, but those aren't your real bodies. More like some kind of spectres in the image of your virtual manifestation," explained Jeremy.

"Remember when we first freed Aelita and I turned into a ninja?" asked Harry. As Odd nodded, Harry continued. "It's like that."

"Aelita, Harry and I have become spectres?" asked Odd.

"In fact, you're more like polymorphic spectres that-"

"Wow, pretty impressive!" interrupted Odd as Harry pushed himself up.

"It's strange to have no glasses on earth."

"If you say so. It doesn't matter. For now, hurry up and find the supercomputer. The Teleportation won't last forever," warned Jeremy.

"How long have we got?" asked Aeltia.

"Uh…52…no, 26…no, uh, 13…uh, 13 minutes!"

"The guy's a comedian! And just where does he expect us to find a supercomputer, behind a tree?!" asked Odd sarcastically.

"Good guess, Odd!" said Aelita. Looking at the slightly ominous building, Harry gulped.

"Something is telling me to go back. Jeremy, can you check me for Xana's codes when we get back. I wouldn't put it past him to use me as a sleeper agent."

"If that was true, wouldn't he have activated you by now?" asked Odd.

"Maybe, maybe not. it depends if Xana wants a spy in the group who doesn't even know he's a spy. That way, I'd be telling the truth if I was asked because I would be unaware of it."

Replika

"Yumi, wait! Can't we make up, huh? You know, if someone forgot my birthday, I wouldn't make a big thing out of it…"

"That's because I never ever forget it!" interrupted Yumi. "Quit while you're ahead. you're making things worse."

Sissi sighed. "Can you two just stop it. I'm sure Ulrich will make it up to you Yumi in someway."

"You three, Harry, Odd and Aelita have found a lab. It looks like my theory was right. is everything alright on your side?"

"A little chilly... Whoa!" Narrowly dodging the laser, they turned to see a tarantula. Pulling out his sword, Ulrich glared at it before looking down another path.

"Faster!" Pointing his sword in front of him, William smirked slightly.

"Jeremy, Xana's on the move again," warned Yumi.

"Two vehicles coming right up."

Jumping on the Overbike, Ulrich looked in William's direction. "I'll take care of handsome."

"Yeah, right!"

"I'll help," offered Sissi. Ulrich nodded and the two zoomed off.

"You can't let them get to the towers. if they do, it's mission over."

"We'll try to make life difficult for the enemy, don't worry."

"Fighting William should put me in a better mood," said Ulrich as he pulled out a sword. Sissi aimed and hit the tarantula. "Nice shot."

Looking up, William tilted his head before jumping off the tarantula and nearly hitting Ulrich with his sword. Sissi took a few shots at him which he dodged before pulling his sword out of the ground. Yelling, Ulrich jumped off the Overbike and threw his sword at the tarantula. It exploded.

"Where is he?"

"Where is who?" asked Sissi, playing dumb as she backed away as William advanced on her.

"You know who I'm talking about."

"Not here." Feeling nothing behind her, Sissi glanced down at the digital sea.

"I can see that. Tell me where he is!"

Earth

Sidling up to the corner, the three peaked around it.

"It's open," whispered Odd as he pushed on it and they slipped inside. Looking around uneasily, Harry rubbed his head.

"Right or left?" asked Aelita.

"This way," whispered Harry as he took the lead.

"How do you know?" asked Aelita.

"Xana included a map of this place. It just jumped out at me."

Peering in a window down the corridor, they ducked as a Xanafied man looked behind him. Closing his eyes, Harry wished that he would go back to what he was doing. the man returned to his work. Crawling underneath the window, the three slipped away.

Replika

Sissi jumped off the edge and allowed he wings to catch her before flying back up. swinging his sword at her, William sent an energy wave at her which she narrowly dodged. Jumping off it at the right time, Ulrich sent the Overbike at William who immediately turned to smoke. Skidding to the edge, Ulrich looked nervously down.

"Leave my brother alone. I think he's made his position clear on joining Xana."

Yumi

Yumi brought up her fans and blocked the lasers before sending one at the tarantula and destroying it.

Earth

Harry led them around the corner. Hearing the sound of footsteps, Harry made them invisible and slipped inside a room.

"What's this, huh? A supermarket display for…office plants? asked Odd as they looked at the plant. A spider slipped out. "Uh-oh, guess not!"

Harry stared at them, entranced. Noticing, Aelita nudged him.

"Sorry. I think Xana slipped me something to mess with me if I ever came close to one of his... pet projects."

"Aelita, Harry, Odd, hurry up and find the supercomputer. Yumi, Sissi and Ulrich are busy fighting off a bunch of Tarantulas! William tried to interrogate Sissi as to your whereabouts Harry."

"Well, that's not really surprising," said Harry with a shrug.

"Funny, their cousins are right here!" muttered Odd.

"What are you talking about?" asked Jeremy in confusion.

"Uh, nothing, Jeremy. Aelita, what do you make of these souped-up spiders?" asked Odd.

"I'd say that Xana wants to transform these tropical tarantulas," said Aelita thoughtfully.

"But for what? Spiders don't attack unless you sit on them!"

"He probably is trying something like making them more aggressive," said Harry. "I think I managed to overhear something like that but Xana was really careful not to let anything slip.

A spider leapt at them and Aelita quieted him.

"Ok, ok, don't look at me in that tone of voice! beside, I'm sure nobody heard anything."

"You were saying?" asked Harry as a man came in. Speeding up, Harry ran around him and pinched his shoulder, dropping him immediately but by the time he had done that, Odd had been attacked with his own arrows. At the others look, he shrugged. "Vulcan nerve pinch."

Odd and Aelita shared a look.

Replika

Ulrich twisted his swords and sent William's flying. "You've lost, William!"

Reaching his palm out, William's sword flew back to him and he used it to devirtualise the charging Ulrich.

"What an idiot!" Ulrich muttered to himself as he stepped out the scanner.

"Sissi, go to Yumi," suggested Jeremy. "I don't think you can handle William on your own."

"Doesn't stop me trying." Sissi dived and hit William who winced and grabbed her.

"Where is he?!"

"Not telling. I don't know." Sissi glared at him.

"I admire your determination in hiding him from me." William stabbed her.

Yumi

Yumi dodged the shots and hit the tarantula. Hearing his sword scraping along the ground, she turned and faced William who charged.

"Not so fast, pretty boy!" She sent her fans at him but he ducked. placing her hands on her forehead, Yumi used her telekinesis to change the direction of her fans. William caught them before destroying them with a chuckle. pulling his sword out of the ground, he pointed it at Yumi.

"It's over, Yumi!"

"Jeremy! Mayday, SOS, I need two more fans like, right now!"

"Uh-oh, "right now" is a pretty tall order, Yumi. But ok, let me see what I can come up with!"

Earth

"Here we go, back in your cage now," said Odd as they locked him in a room. Aelita hit him with an energy field just as the door closed. Harry placed his hand on the lock.

"He shouldn't be hacking his way out of there any time soon."

"You're a great spectre!

"You really think so?" asked Aelita.

"Well no medals just yet, Princess. We still have to find the supercomputer!"

"This way." Harry led them deeper into the complex.

Replika

Yumi dodged William's sword.

"I think William's mad at nit being able to find Harry Jeremy."

"I'm nearly there with your fans Yumi."

"Well?" asked Ulrich as the doors opened.

"You wouldn't have a rabbit's foot, a four-leaf clover or a horseshoe on you, would you?"

"Is it as bad as all that?" asked Ulrich with a surprised look on his face.

"Harry has had strange feelings which he thinks come from Xana and only Yumi to defend the tower without any weapons? Yes I think it's as bad as all that."

Replika

"Are you sure it's this way Harry? I was positive that we should've gone in the other direction!" Aeltia turned around.

"Hold on a minute. Bingo!" Grabbing Aelita's arm, Odd pointed at the door he had been looking through.

"Jeremy, we've found the supercomputer!"

"Great, you'd better destroy it right away, 'cause Yumi can't hold on much longer!"

"Oh no, an entry code…why not a couple of guard dogs too?" moaned Odd as he pressed buttons.

"Easy," said Harry as he pressed his hand to the terminal. It flashed green and the door opened.

"Now we've got to get rid of this thing for good," said Aelita as they looked at it. Harry groaned and slid down the wall. "You alright Harry?"

"I don't know. give me as few seconds to check something." He closed his eyes

Harry's mind

Yelping, Harry immediately dodged an attack. "I expected something like this. That's one ugly dog."

The dog growled as it jumped at him. Harry rolled his eyes and the dog exploded. "Now, how to keep Xana from doing this again..."

A tendril snaked up his leg. Groaning, Harry tried to yank it off but it squeezed. More tendrils surrounded him.

"Is Xana trying to trap me? I wonder... will this work?" Harry focused on a happy memory and muttered "Expecto Patronum."

The familiar white wolf appeared and the tendrils retreated. Harry sighed in relief. "That will keep Xana at bay for a bit."

Earth

"Laser Arrow!" Opening his eyes, Harry watched the arrow get deflected. "I don't believe this.

"Jeremy, we've got a problem. The supercomputer has an energy field around it!" called Aelita.

"You've got to find out where the shield is getting its energy from. I can't do anything from here, do what you have to, but hurry up!"

Replika

Yelping slightly, Yumi continued to dodge William's attacks.

"Jeremy, it's now or never!" she yelled as William pressed her against the tower. her fans appeared just as William devirtualised her. He entered the tower. "Oh Jeremy, I'm really sorry!"

William rose to the second platform and touched the screen.

Code

Xana

Earth

"There!" Aelita pointed at a lens. "That must be what's powering the shield."

"You could have found me a bigger target," groused Odd. they looked behind them as the door opened.

"Go ahead, I'll deal with these."

Odd aimed and fired. the lens blew up. Odd was about to fire again when he and AElita disappeared.

"Nice timing Xana," muttered Harry. "Jeremy, are you going to bring me back or shall I destroy the supercomputer?"

"I'll bring you in Harry. William will go after the tower powering you next and it's too dangerous alone. Especially for you.."

Harry nodded and made a face as he disappeared too.

Replika

"What's going on?" asked Odd.

"Xana has taken over control of the tower, you guys," explained Jeremy. "Your Teleportation has been stopped. We've got to abort the mission, we might as well come back home. Harry's already on his way back to you. Wake up, Aelita! Spider-man and company have just arrived!"

Aelita piloted the Skid away as Harry joined her.

LAter

"We did our best," said Ulrich as he leant against the wall.

"Maybe, but we've still got to find out what Xana's planning to do with those cybernetic spiders," said Aelita.

"Nice job keeping my location out of William's hands Sissi," said Harry with a small smile. "Though I think Xana knew where I was as soon as I locked that door."

"Right. We'll have to go back onto the Replika, Teleport you back in, and destroy that supercomputer," said Jeremy.

"That's fine, but until then, anyone mind if I sleep for a few years?" yawned Odd

"Ok, we get the message. We could all use a little sleep," said Yumi with a smile. Harry passed a parcel to Ulrich.

Bridge

Yumi!" called Ulrich.

"What now?" asked Yumi, annoyed.

"Here, a birthday gift." Ulrich handed the two parcels to Yumi.

"Oh! Thanks, Ulrich, that's very sweet!" Yumi kissed him on the cheek.

"I bet you're thinking about your own birthday," Jeremy said to Aelita as they watched.

"Well yeah…it-it's one of those things I still don't remember. I haven't any idea when I was born."

Harry pulled out his mum's diary and flicked through it.

"Here we are. 'Waldo has a daughter called Aelita. She was born on July the 30th and she's really sweet. That's the day before mine."

Aelita hugged Harry who blushed.

"Hey, are you guys coming or not?" Odd called impatiently. "Hurry up before I fall asleep on this bridge!"

"Yeah, we're coming, no need to wake the whole town up!" Ulrich called back.

Odd and Ulrich's Dorm

"Who's the pretty present for, huh? Who's it for, my little diggety dog?" asked ODd azs ahe pulled out the parcel.

"Hey Odd, thanks again for Yumi, you really saved me this time!"

"Oh, no sweat!" Odd saw that he has the present for Yumi. "Mmm!"

"Pretty classy collar, but don't you think it's a bit too much for a dog?" asked Ulrich.

Yumi's house

Yumi looked strangely at the squeaky bone.
