Dog Day Afternoon

"Odd, hurry up," said Ulrich impatiently as Odd put on his trainers.

"Ok, I'm coming!"

"You're not wearing socks to get a better feel for the track?" asked Jeremy in surprise.

"No, I forgot to put them on," explained Odd. "Boy am I going to have blisters!"

Harry sighed, pulled out a couple of rocks and transfigured them into socks then handed them to Odd.

"The way you sweat, you'll probably have to chuck your sneakers," joked Ulrich as Kiwi pushed open the door with socks in his mouth.

"Who's a clever boy? He must have pushed open our door and brought me my socks! But how did he find me?" asked a confused Odd.

"He followed the smell of your feet, easy," said Ulrich.

"Hahaha, very funny! Your jokes stink worse than my feet!"

"So that's what you define as not funny," said Harry with a small smile.

Outside

"On your marks, get set, go!" The group of runners started on Jim's command as the group met up with Sissi.

"How do I look?" asked Sissi.

"Uh, I think that you look better in your normal clothes," said Ulrich as they watched the next group get ready. "Hey Yumi."

"Go!" Everyone except William's clone started running. Yumi took the lead. "Very good time! Huh? Dunbar! When I say "go" it means go! Two-letter words aren't that hard, are they?! Either his ears need washing or he's totally out of it…!"

"You look completely lost, William. How come?" asked Herb suspiciously.

"I'm not lost. We're at the track, right?" asked the clone dumbly.

"Uh oh, trouble at twelve o'clock," said Odd.

"I see what you mean," said Harry with a sigh. "If they find out that this William isn't the real one, they'll try to find him and if they follow the lead to the supercomputer and William, that means trouble for us."

"Well, as the principal's daughter I can distract them," suggested Sissi.

"You're off your rocker. you should go talk to the nurse," suggested Herb.

"It's nothing. he's a little out of sync because he's in lobe," said Yumi quickly as she hugged him.

"Are you say that you and William..."

"They say that love is like um…getting drunk! William doesn't drink of course, he's just…"

"Just a complete halfwit, right?!" asked Herb. Jim blew his whistle.

"Tenth graders, that it for today. ninth graders, get on your mark!"

Harry, Ulrich, Odd and Jeremy lined up.

"I think something weird is going on," muttered Herb.

Later

"That was a close call with Herb today," said Yumi. as they sat at a table

"I don't think he bought the love story between you and William," said Aelita.

"Can't we upgrade the quality of William's clone?" asked Ulrich.

"Sorry, like I said, his stupidity is an unforeseen emerging factor beyond our control. To fix it I'd have to reprogram everything, we're just going to have to keep improvising," explained Jeremy.

"If we can! Herb's getting very suspicious. Think of what'll happen if he tells your father Sissi about William," pointed out Yumi.

"I'll just tell him that William has problems in his private life," said Sissi with a shrug.

"Well then, in that case, the only solution I can see is…to keep pretending you're in love," suggested Jeremy.

"What?!"

"Yeah!" exclaimed Aelita in agreement. Ulrich choked on his food. "Perfect, if you're always hanging out together, then no-one can get near him!"

"You've got a very vital mission, you've got to keep our secret safe," added Odd.

"Hmph! Have you forgotten that I'm with Ulrich?"

"Say that he won't leave you alone. Anyway, I did improve the security program for the tower that runs William's clone. Aelita, how would you like to go to Lyoko to install it after class?"asked Jeremy.

"No problem! Who's going with me?" asked Aelita.

"Do all of us have to go?" asked Ulrich.

"Just one of you will be enough to keep an eye on things with Aelita," explained Jeremy. "Harry also ought to go. Just in case."

"I volunteer! And I also happen to have a fantastic idea!" said Odd eagerly.

"Uh-oh!" moaned Ulrich.

"Why don't we take Kiwi to Lyoko this time?" asked Odd.

"Your brainless dog? But what for?" asked Jeremy in confusion.

"Oh, first of all, my dog is not brainless. Secondly, our natural talents are multiplied on Lyoko. Imagine Kiwi and his sense of smell, he could sniff out monsters from miles away, and he might even be able to sniff out William on the network," explained Odd.

"No way, Odd! Besides, Kiwi's such a coward he'd take off the second he saw a Kankrelat!"

"Oh yeah? As fast as you did the time you went to Lyoko?" asked Odd.

"And don't forget, the network is a vast place and we don't have scents on Lyoko," pointed out Harry.

Factory

"Shush. quiet," whispered Odd to Kiwi as they swung down.

"What happened in here?" asked Jeremy as they saw the tracks on the floor.

"Looks like some bikers used our factory for training," said Odd.

"Anyway, they don't seem to be here anymore," added Aelita.

"Well, let's make this quick," said Harry.

Kadic

Herb slipped out of his room and entered William's. The clone was sleeping on his bed before opening its eyes as Herb approached.

"We have to talk. This thing about you and Yumi is baloney. Everyone knows she's with Ulrich."

"Who? Ulrich Stern? He's a nice guy. I like him a lot and his brother is cool."

"Harry? He's a geek and a loser. And if you think that Ulrich stern is a nice guy then you're not well at all. There are some things that the principal ought to know about."

"Hey, Herb, what are you doing in William's room?" asked Yumi.

"What has your gang done to William?" demanded Herb.

"Everyone changes Herb. William changed just a bit quickly and I'm not entirely sure what happened to him."

Lab

"Everyone ready?" asked Jeremy.

"Yep."

"Ready!"

"Don't rush me!" Odd opened his bag and let Kiwi out as the scanners shut. "Ok, ready to go."

"Odd, is that you making that racket?" asked Jeremy.

"Uh yeah…my tummy's rumbling. Would you believe it? I'm still hungry!" Odd lied.

"Don't worry, this won't take very long."

"Once you're on Lyoko, you're going to be a big star!" Odd whispered to Kiwi.

"Transfer Aelita. Transfer Odd. Transfer Harry. Scanner Harry. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Odd. Virtualisation."

Lyoko

"The tower you want is just behind you," said Jeremy as they landed in the desert.

"I think there's going to be a surprise," said Odd.

"Kiwi?" asked Harry with a raised eyebrow.

"Head for the tower Aelita," interrupted Jeremy. Aelita rolled her eyes and entered the tower.

"I'll stand guard here, ok?" asked Odd.

"Keep an eye out for William," suggested Harry. "Since I'm here, he'll appear."

"I'm starting the installation Jeremy."

"I hope I didn't mess up," muttered Odd.

Yumi

"Where are we going?" asked the clone as Yumi dragged it across the courtyard.

"Never mind, just keep running!"

Herb followed.

Lyoko

"Jeremy, I hear some kind of noise," called Odd as he sat on a rock. Frowning, Harry paced around,

"Hang on…you're right, two Tarantulas just appeared. For now they're at the other end of the Sector. I'm sending you the Overboard just in case. Harry, you stay with the tower."

"Got ya."

Odd jumped on and started to lose control.

"Knock it off, Odd! The Tarantulas are far away, but still," said an annoyed Odd.

"I can't seem to keep my balance, what's wrong with me?!"

He fell off and rolled down a rock.

"Ok Jeremy, the program's operational. But where did Odd go?" asked Aelita as she exited the tower.

"He's busy clowning around somewhere," said Jeremy as Aelita spotted Odd at the bottom of the rock, moaning in pain. "Now that you've done, I'll bring you all in."

Aelita and Odd disappeared but Harry remained. "Uh, Jeremy, I though you were bringing us in. I'm still on Lyoko."

"That's weird. I'll try again."

Nothing happened.

"It's still not working Jeremy."

Scanners

"What's going on around here?" moaned Odd as he fell over.

"Having trouble standing up?" asked Aelita.

"There's no way I could have been... oh no."

"Is there something wrong with you guys?" asked Jeremy. "Because I already have one problem. Harry won't materialise."

"No biggie, Jeremy. Odd just missed his snack time, and it doesn't seem to agree with him," called Aelita.

Yumi

"What a pest that Herb is," muttered Yumi as she pulled the clone though a tunnel.

Lab

"Yes, Yumi?" asked Jeremy as his phone rang.

"I'm with William and I can't get rid of Herb! And I've got to go home right now," explained Yumi.

"Just bring him back to school and we'll take over. I'm having a problem with materialising Harry though."

"Ok. Come on, Romeo, we're going home," said Yumi as she turned to the clone.

"Is Romeo a nice guy too? I don't think I know him."

"Let's go, I'll explain on the way!"

Kadic

"Is there something wrong Jim?" asked Jeremy as the group bumped into him.

"Uh, I'm looking for my watch. It must have fallen." Odd sniffed and started to crawl on the floor. "Della Robbia! Have you gone mad?"

Odd circled a tree and picked up a watch. Aelita and Jeremy shared looks. "Is this it Jim?"

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

"Everything go alright?" asked Ulrich as the three entered.

"The program's installed but for some reason or other Harry won't materialise. He's working on it but he thinks it's Xana and I'm inclined to believe him."

"And that Odd's acting really weird!" added Aeltia as Odd sniffed his bed.

"What are you doing Odd?" asked Sissi. "And don't give me a dumb answer."

"You mean you only just noticed?" asked Ulrich. "Is gay alright."

"He's fine for now. Gross!" Odd started eating dog food.

"Odd, I know you'll eat anything when you're hungry, but that's ridiculous," said an disgusted Ulrich.

"Ugh! Come on, Odd! Get real! What's wrong with you?" asked Jeremy.

"Eh? Oh no, this is getting worse and worse! I don't believe this!" moaned Odd as he unzipped his pants.

"Gyah!" Aelita covered her eyes.

"Argh, Odd, stop!" ordered Ulrich.

"Cut that out!" said Jeremy as he hid behind his laptop.

"You just don't do that," moaned Sissi.

"It's, well, I-I've got this…thing in my backside, I think…I-I think…I think I'm growing a tail…"

Yumi

The phone rang as the two entered the grounds.

Yumi, you've got to hang out with William's clone a little longer. We've got…a slight problem! Here's Jeremy. Talk to Yumi." Aelita handed the phone to him

"Listen Yumi, according to my diagnosis, Odd absorbed Kiwi during virtualisation," explained Jeremy.

"Is it serious, doctor?" asked Yumi.

"Pretty much. Right now, his human metabolism is still dominant, but if we don't do something fast, it'll be too late! First Harry now Odd."

"Think we can use the scanners to separate them again?" asked Aelita.

"I think we can. We have to send him – uh, them – back to Lyoko."

"Better count me out, I've still got that leech on my tail," said Yumi. "And how's Harry?"

"No, I know what to do. As soon as I get to the factory, I'll call you back. Harry's fine. He's still struggling to find the error though."

"Yeah, ok."

"Come on, we've wasted enough time. Let's go!" Jeremy ran out the room.

"What? But can't we eat before we go?" asked Odd.

"Want to eat dog food all of your life?" asked Ulrich.

Lyoko

"Where id it?" muttered Harry. ""The materialisation program hasn't been tampered with. That must mean it's on my end..."

Mumbling to himself, he exited the tower before running into someone. "Not now!"

Chuckling, William hit Harry with super smoke and began to levitate him.

"Let me go William!"

Ignoring him, William started to walk away from the tower. Closing his eyes, Harry tried to think of a way out.

Factory

"Rat. Just what we needed right now," muttered Odd as he saw the bikers.

"You know those guys?" asked Ulrich.

"Uninvited visitors who used the factory for a practice track," explained Jeremy.

"We need to get rid of these guys," said Sissi.

"What are you kids doing here?" asked a biker as they approached. "Beat it."

"Let me handle them," whispered Jeremy. "Hello Gentlemen. We just wanted to go in."

"We didn't see your name on the doors," said a second biker.

"It's times like these that we need Harry," whispered Odd.

"I just hope Xana hasn't gotten to him," Ulrich whispered back before aiming a punch at one. Odd jumped on the same biker.

"He's mean! He'll bite," called Jeremy.

"Hey, what's wrong with him?" asked the second biker before jumping out of the way as Odd jumped past.

"What do we do about those guys?" asked Ulrich.

"We'll worry about them later on. Right now we got to take care of Odd!"

Lab

"Ok, I'm going to virtualise you Odd onto Lyoko as you are then separate the two DNA sequences. Trey to meet up with Harry... where is Harry? He should be inside the tower."

"You don't think Xana got to him, did you?" asked Ulrich.

"Found him. William's got him trapped against the edge of the desert."

Harry

Harry's eyes darted around before glancing at William. Narrowing his eyes, Harry looked at the way tower. William shifted to block him.

"I hope this works." Harry turned to smoke and darted past William into the tower. William took a step forward before changing direction.

Odd

"It's like having hiccups. This going to take long Einstein?" asked Odd as he started acting like a dog.

"I can't tell you in dog years but it's complicated. Don't go anywhere. if you get devirtualised before I can fix it, you'll have a dog's life forever."

"Thanks Einstein."

"Hey Odd," Harry ran over to him. "I hope you can fight. William just tried to subdue me again. Will he ever get the message that I won't do that?"

"I don't think so," Odd said with a smile. "Did you manage to fix your problem?"

"Oh no, activated tower in the ice sector," said Jeremy.

"Now of all times?" asked Harry. "I think I fixed my problem. Xana was stopping me from materialising directly. I just persuaded him not to."

"That sounds nasty," said Odd with a shudder.

"I just made a few points."

"At least we didn't miss dinner for nothing." said Ulrich. "Cool."

"You and your stomach," muttered Sissi.

"You two stay put. There's an activated tower in the ice sector but Aelita and Ulrich are handling it."

"Yeah, yeah, thank you, roll over."

Ice sector

Ulrich and Aelita appeared a distance away from the tower before looking at the tarantulas. One had William riding on it.

"He did have to come after us," moaned Ulrich.

"For Xana!"

"Nice, the other locals came to welcome us. How about a little Overbike action?" asked Ulrich.

"You got it! Be careful."

"Relax, I won't run any red lights or anything!" Ulrich jumped on it and zoomed towards the tower.

"Uh, a little help over here!" called odd.

"Great, three Bloks just appeared." Odd ran away at Harry shook his head. "I'll call you back up."

"What am I, a weak link?" asked Sissi.

"And here's me thinking that you didn't want to go."

"We don't need backup," called Harry as he shot the Bloks in rapid succession.

Yumi

"Well, it's about time you called. My day had been just thrilling," said Yumi as she picked up her mobile.

"Major trouble on Lyoko, better get over here," suggested Jeremy.

"Hm…I get the feeling you forgot about Herb!" Yumi stared at the sign he was hiding behind.

"No problem. Give me a minute, then double-time it over here!"

Herb's mobile rang. "That you, Jim?"

"Herb, why aren't you back yet? You should be in your room doing your homework! Do you understand? Now then, hurry on back to school!" said Jeremy on the voice synthesiser.

"But…but…be right there!"

Herb stalked away.

"He's finally outta my hair! Well, you know the way back! Ciao!" Yumi ran off.

Lyoko

"Attack!"

One of the tarantulas stood on its hind feet and started to fire. It dropped down and the other took its place. Aelita was hit in the shoulder.

"Aelita!"

Ulrich threw his sword and hit one of the tarantulas before looking back.

Mountain

Odd barked which attracted the attention of three more Bloks.

"Nice one Odd."

Off fried but missed. "Come on Kiwi. Front paws aren't just for running."

He ran off. Harry sighed before running after him.

Factory

Yumi pressed the button several times before calling Jeremy. "Jeremy, why isn't the elevator working?"

"I shut it off because of those three goons," explained Jeremy. "Are they gone?"

"What three goons? There's nobody up here!"

"I'll explain later. No sign of Xana trouble in town?"

"No."

"Good. I'll switch on the elevator right now. See you in a sec!"

Turning around at the sound of engines, Yumi stared at the bikers. The eye of Xana appeared. They shot towards her.

Lyoko

Ulrich jumped off the Overbike and hit the second tarantula.

"Jeremy, I think I just hit a pedestrian!"

"There's not time for jokes, Aelita's in a jam!"

Ulrich turned around to see the third tarantula chasing Aelita.

"Attack!" William pointed his sword at her.

"Go annoy Harry William," called Aelita.

Mountain

Odd fired as a laser hit him. The arrow bounced off a tree and hit a Blok.

"They're focusing on you Odd," said Harry as the remaining Bloks walked past him.

"Because devirtualisng him will take him out for good," said Jeremy. "Odd, if you're hit one more time, you'll be in the doghouse for good."

"I'd like to see you do this," called Odd as he hid behind a boulder. "Harry, help meeeee!"

Factory

Yumi ran from the bikers. She grappled up a rope and lay against the walkway as the bikers rode past. Her phone rang as she snuck away. The bikers heard the sound and looked up.

"Thanks Jeremy."

Lyoko

Odd waited for the Blok to pass the boulder before barking and jumping on top of it. He fired as the Blok spun.

"Quit spinning!"

Jumping off the Blok, Odd landed on the other one. Harry used the distraction to destroy them.

Ice

Aeltia stopped running as she neared the edge. She fired two energy fields as Ulrich rode up behind the tarantula. Hearing the noise, William looked behind him. Jumping off the bike, Ulrich landed as the bike destroyed the tarantula.

"Ulrich!"

Turning, Ulrich had enough time to see what Aelita was pointing at before being devirtualised by William's sword. William chuckled.

Scanners

Dropping to his hands and feet, Ulrich listened to Jeremy.

"Ulrich! Yumi's not answering! Something's not right."

"Ok, I'm on it!"

Factory

Glancing behind her, Yumi continued to run. She grabbed a rope and used it to knock two of the bikers off their bikes. The third one shot electricity at a machine which dropped. Using the distraction, Yumi jumped on the bikers head before running up the steps. Firing again, the biker hit Yumi in the back who yelled in pain.

Lyoko

"Odd, I've got it. I've separated the two DNA sequences and all I have to do is load it into the scanners," said Jeremy.

"It's about time, my paws are really killing me! And these guys won't let sleeping dogs lie!" yelled Odd as another two Bloks appeared.

"Something tells me that Xana wants me to be kept busy or he wants you to be stuck as a dog," said Harry thoughtfully.

"Odd! Get out of there!"

Odd pulled up his shield and deflected the shots back at the monsters.

"Any more surprises?" Odd scratched his ear with his foot.

"Sorry, I forgot to delete the old data. It would have bugged."

"How are the others doing?"

"Not good. Aelita's fighting William and I don't know where Yumi is."

"Huh, so that's where pretty boy went," commented Harry as he scratched his chin. "He couldn't get to me without a bit of a struggle and the risk of me devirtualising."

"You want me to wait while everything falls apart?" asked Odd as he ran away.

"Odd, I'm not done yet! It's too dangerous! Do you hear me, Odd?! Oh…you're about as obedient as Kiwi!"

Groaning, Harry ran after him.

Factory

Yumi limped along the corridor with a hand on the wall. She quickly walked through the lockers and blocked the door. The bikers blasted through. Jumping out of the way, Yumi hid behind a support as the bikers sent rubble at her. Running out, Yumi was hit by the biker and held in the air.

Ice

Hrry and Odd ran out the tower. Odd spun around before listening and running off again.

"This is getting repetitive Odd!"

"Then why don't you stop me?" Odd called back. "You want to help out as much as I do!"

Aelita looked behind her to see the digital Sea.

"Now I wish I had Harry's immunity..." She threw an energy field which hit the eye on William's sword. The resulting energy wave was pink as William sent it her way. It knocked her off the ice.

"Aelita!"

William walked to the edge to see Aeltia fly up and towards the tower. Running after her, He turned to smoke and reformed in front of Aelita. Barking, Odd knocked him over as well as separating him from his sword.

"Odd, no! The DNA data isn't finished yet! Odd!"

reaching towards his sword, William called it towards him. Odd leapt at him. William devirtualised him before watching Aelita enter the tower.

"No!"

"Oi! Pretty boy!" Growling, William turned to Harry. "Someone's in a bad mood."

"Kiwi?" Odd walked towards the second scanner which opened onto Kiwi. "It is you! Oh my little diggity dog!"

Yumi

The bikers dropped to the ground as they released Yumi.

"Yumi! No!" Ulrich and Sissi ran over to her. Pressing her hand to Yumi's neck, Sissi took her pulse. "You ok?"

"A bit shaken but not stirred."

"Jeremy? All's well with Yumi. Odd and Kiwi good too? That's great."

"No time for celebrations. We've got to separate your brother and William. It looks like Harry took offence to William going after Aelita. And we have to move the bikers before they wake up."

LAter

Groans echoed around the area as the bikers woke up.

"What's wrong with that dog? Has he got rabies or what?!" asked a biker as Kiwi growled at them.

"I don't know, but it's not worth taking any chances. Let's roll!"

THe next day

"Hi everyone! Sleep well?" asked Yumi.

"No, I didn't sleep a wink! Odd was so glad to see Kiwi they played all night long!" exclaimed Ulrich. Sissi giggled.

"With Kiwi's talent and my idea of having him foam at the mouth with toothpaste, you've gotta admit that we're a great team! With the two of us on Lyoko, Xana won't stand a chance!" yelled Odd.

"Keep it down, won't you?" asked Harry as he covered his ears.

"I wouldn't try that again," commented Jeremy.

"By the way Odd, do you always carry toothpaste with you?" asked Aelita.

"Yeah, you never know when you're going to run into a pretty girl!"

"His feet smell awful enough, just imagine him with bad breath as well!" Ulrich added.

"Yumi! I know it's because of you that William's all messed up!" called Herb. "I'm going to prove it!"

"Lay off it Herb," called Sissi.

"Don't bother, I know," said Yumi dismissively.

"Aha!"

"I told him that I have interest in him this morning. Don't be surprised if he stays messed up for a long time, he took it pretty hard," continued Yumi.

"You kidding me?!"

"You know, I think there's still a little bit of Kiwi in me," said Odd as they walked away.

"What, you still got a tail?" asked Ulrich.

"No! His sense of smell. We're having beef stew and Brussels sprouts for lunch today. I can smell it from here!"

"I think it's because the breeze is bringing the scent over," suggested Harry as everyone laughed.
