Canine conundrum

"Yumi? Where are you?" asked odd.

"I can't shake him." William smirked as he gained a target on Yumi who tried to shake him.

"Yumi, I'm coming for you."

William fired and missed as Yumi dodged.

"Hey, tall, dark and handsome! You'll never get anywhere with her if you don't back off a little. Take my advice, give her some room!" called odd. William started to chase him instead. "Cat and mouse, huh?"

"How ironic. The cat is the mouse," called Harry as he hit the Rorkal. "Is it me or is Xana giving me some breathing room?"

"Could be sure to the fact that he doesn't want to lose you on the tides," suggested Ulrich as he fired at a shark.

"You guys are low on energy. We're going to have to abort the mission."

"Aw, man Jeremy."

"You're nowhere near the replika."

Aelita hit the Rorkal as odd dodged.

"Your fighting techniques are improving but you're still too far away."

The Navskids returned to the skid as the digital sea turned blue.

Lab

"That's another mission down the drain," said Jeremy as everyone stepped into the lab.

"I can't even remember what we were trying to do," complained Ulrich with a yawn.

"It's such a simple procedure: we construct an intermediate digital sinusitis with intergalactic lyrical context, all multiplied by the virtual factors of the theorems of Thales and Pythagoras. Piece of cake," explained odd.

"Perfect imitation!"

"I say we go to sleep. Odd's making sense."

Odd's and Ulrich's Dorm

"What?! I don't believe this!" Kiwi was surrounded by feathers. "Kiwi! What did we agree on about your dog Odd?"

"Uh, well…"

The next day

"There was no need to get carried away," finished Odd.

"Well, I can see why Ulrich is annoyed with you," said Harry with a shrug. "But he'll get over it. He always does. Eventually."

"Shut up Harry."

"I'm feeling the love."

"Hi everybody! Let me try and guess. No seconds in the lunchroom? Prank that backfired? Girl trouble?" asked Yumi as she noticed Odd's expression.

"Worse, Kiwi," corrected Ulrich.

"He's not that terrible, is he?"

"Do you want to bet? Do you think I like the idea of sleeping in wet sheets every time you take him for a walk?"

Odd pouted. "The poor thing is locked up all day."

"And whose fault is that?" asked Harry with a raised eyebrow. "You know dogs aren't allowed on school grounds."

"And how do you think I feel?" asked Jeremy. "He chews my books."

"Paper makes Kiwi sick so you don't leave your books where he can get to them.

"And what about my stuff? Is it because I leave them around that Kiwi steals them?" asked Aelita angrily. "I spend my life digging through the grounds, Mr Riley thinks I'm a nutcase!"

"Odd, we're sorry but something has to be done," said Jeremy. "He has to be punished."

"Objection! My dog has the right to a lawyer!" yelled Odd. "You've got to help me, Harry, Yumi."

"Uh, Odd, I don't think the principal heard you," said Harry with a wince.

"Well, I don't mind but after what he did to my new shoes, last week, no," said Yumi.

"And don't look at me," said Sissi. "He spoilt my new dress."

"I get the picture. What's the sentence?" said Odd sadly.

"To make Kiwi behave and understand his bad behaviour, he has to stay in the factory for two weeks," said Jeremy.

"What?! Two weeks in the factory? How can you do that?"

"Pretty easily." Everyone walked off.

"Odd, he'll be fine there. The factory's not so horrible," said Aelita as she paused.

"Staying for hours in a computer lab may be fine for Jeremy, but not for my dog!" muttered Odd.

Lab

"Calm down Kiwi," pleaded Odd as Kiwi barked. "I remembered your froggy. No one understands you. Be brave, my little diggity dog."

Kiwi lay down before pricking his ears up as the computer detected an activated tower.

Kadic

Smoke seeped out from the socket and slipped into a box. Beeping noises started.

Gym

"Hello there! I'm glad to see many of you here at my pencak silat class. Pencak silat, as its name indicates, is a combat technique, which is half aesthetic, half self-defence, and half spirituality. Yes, well, uh…these three halves could save your life…especially if you ever parachute in the middle of the Burmese jungle at the height of the monsoon season," rambled Jim.

"I see we've got an extra student," said Yumi. "Or two."

"Hey, this class is for everyone," pointed out Sissi. "And besides, I want to learn pinching skillets too. It could be useful one day."

"It's called pencatch silar," corrected Johnny.

"What are you two doing here?"

"We came to be with you. I love hanging out with you Yumi." Hiroki grinned at his older sister.

"No talking and let's get to work," yelled Jim. "Now, for a warm up…"

"Excuse us Jim." Milly and Tamiya ran in.

"Hey! Just what are you two doing in here?" asked Jim.

"We wanna do a story on punchy muskrat," explained Milly. "Ishiyama said you wouldn'y mind."

"Huh? Did you say that?" asked Jim as he turned to yumi.

"Not her. It was him." Milly pointed at Hiroki.

"Uh… well, I uh…" Hiroki looked sheepish.

Rec room

Jeremy steered at the board.

"Take your time Jeremy," said Aelita with a smile.

"It's impossible to concentrate with those guys in the background," yelled Jeremy as he pointed at a couple of boys playing a game. "Do you mind being quiet? We're trying to concentrate!"

"Concentrate, that's all you bookworms do. Why don't you try something important?"

"Or not," said Harry as he rubbed his head. "A certain someone is acting up again."

"Xana?" asked Jeremy. Harry sent him a look as Jeremy's laptop beeped. "Stupid question."

"Which sector?" asked Aelita as Jeremy looked at the results.

"Desert. We'd better get everyone together."

Pulling out his mobile, Harry called Ulrich as Jeremy called Odd.

Odd

"Yeah Einstein? What?! Oh no. Kiwi has a hard time whenever I leave and now I have to go to Lyoko! Fine."

Gym

"Sissi, you're trying to do something complicated. Ulrich, Yumi, demonstrate."

Ulrich and Yumi demonstrated the correct forms. Hearing his phone ring, Ulrich pulled it out. "Harry? Right. A Xana alert."

"Can't you watch what you're doing?" asked Sissi as she was knocked to the ground.

"Deep breaths, Sissi! As my Burmese master said, "serenity is vital in order to stay calm"!" called Jim as Ulrich helped her up before pulling her out of the gym.

"What are you going?" asked Jim.

"A little emergency!"

"Hey, that's Kiwi 2, I wonder what he's doing here," said Yumi as the robot approached them.

"If he let himself out to do his business then Jeremy must've upgraded the program," suggested Ulrich.

"You know, I think it was Xana who pulled a few strings," said Yumi as she looked at the robot's eyes where the eye of Xana flashed.

"You two get to the factory as I try to distract him," said Ulrich as they slowly separated. The dog cloned itself and lunged. "Uh oh."

They ran back inside as Yumi destroyed one and the other started to bite until Johnny kicked it.

"Oh no."

"I want a clear explanation of what's going on," demanded Jim as he checked Milly. "Where did these mechanical dogs come from?"

"We don't have time," said Yumi. "Our only chance if me, Ulrich and Sissi can get out."

"Harry, can you ask Jeremy if he remembers his dog robot?" asked Ulrich into the phone as he peered outside at the multiplying robot.

"He's right here, speak to him."

"Ulrich?" asked Jeremy.

"Jeremy, do you remember your dog robot? There's a whole army outside the gym."

"What are you talking about?" asked Jeremy in confusion. "I only built one Kiwi 2, and he's just programmed to play basketball."

"Well don't look now, but I think Xana's trying to form a whole team. We're going to try to get out through the boiler room. Meet you at the factory."

Lab

Jeremy handed Harry back his mobile as they walked into the lab.

"What's the matter?" asked Odd.

"Kiwi," said Jeremy in annoyance.

"Hey, don't try to pin anything else on him!" said Odd in exasperation.

"No, not…your Kiwi. It's mine, Kiwi 2," corrected Jeremy. "He's been taken over and multiplied by Xana. Yumi, Ulrich and Sissi are stuck in the gym. I don't know if they'll be able to make it."

Gym

"Do you take me for a nitwit?" demanded Jim in annoyance.

"Absolutely not. You've already been to the factory, you just don't remember," said Yumi.

"And you won't remember any of this either," added Ulrich.

"This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! You watch too many Japanese mangos!"

"Its manga," corrected Sissi. "And the animation is anime."

"Can you prove what you say?" asked Jim.

"How do you explain the dogs?" asked Yumi. "Do you think Jeremy built them all by himself?"

"Stern probably helped."

"Listen Jim, you have to let us go," pleaded Ulrich. "If you don't, Aelita and Harry won't be able to get to the tower and Xana will probably get whatever passes for his hands on Harry which is not a good thing. Harry's faster than anyone on the planet."

"Jim, I could give my daddy a good word," said Sissi.

"And I don't usually trust Yumi, but, for today I'm going to trust her, but just for today," said Herb.

"Me too! I trust Ulrich and I keep telling my sister she should go out with him!" said Hiroki. Ulrich blushed and glared at Hiroki. "I tell her and tell her and tell her but she pretends she doesn't want to."

"I'm already going out with him, you nitwit," said a growling Yumi.

"Do you mind telling us how you're going to get to this factory?" asked Jim.

"I have an idea."

"Does it involve me teleporting you out?" asked Harry from behind them.

"Harry, get back to the factory. We can find our own way there," growled Ulrich. Harry shrugged and disappeared again. Everyone except Ulrich, Yumi and Sissi gaped. "Now, we should be able to get through an air duct. But we'll need a diversion."

"Too dangerous. And why shouldn't I be the one who gets out?" asked Jim.

"Because you aren't exactly what we need," said Yumi. "And you wouldn't know where to go."

"Fine. It seems pretty clear we have no choice."

LAb

"Ok, I'm launching the process. Are you ready?" asked Jeremy.

"Of course we're ready," called Harry.

"Ok. Transfer Aelita. Transfer Odd. Transfer Harry. Scanner Harry. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Odd. Virtualisation."

Lyoko

"Come out, Xana, and fight like a man!" called Odd.

"He's not going to do as you say," said Harry with an eye roll.

"The tower is north west of your position. Keep an eye out for unexpected visitors."

The Overwing, Overboard and Overjet appeared and the trio flew off.

Gym

Yumi, Ulrich and Sissi crawled into an air vent.

"This place is so dusty," complained Sissi.

"Just man it up," suggested Ulrich.

Jim and the others prepared for battle as they let the dogs in. they destroyed a few before the dogs ran away.

Boiler room

The three dropped down as the dogs pushed the door open.

"Go! I'll cover you!"

Ulrich took a defensive position as Sissi and Yumi ran through the door to encounter three more dogs.

Lyoko

"There's the tower." Aelita pointed at it as Harry hovered.

"It's too quiet. I would have expected Xana to send out a few monsters or William by now."

"I was thinking that," said Aelita.

"Let's go where the current takes us," said Odd. "The faster we save the world, the sooner we have lunch."

"Watch out! On your right!"

Aelita got knocked off the Overwing.

"We were expecting you," called Odd as he looked at William and fired. A Manta flew up behind Harry as he dived and hit the Overjet several times, causing it to disappear and Harry to land at William's feet.

"Ok, not doing that again." Harry stiffened and looked up at the smirking William as he put pressure on Harry's back. "Ok, bye!"

Turing to smoke, Harry reformed next to Aelita and helped her up as William jumped on the black manta and sent an energy wave at Odd. This caused him to jump off the Overboard and fire at the manta which blew up. Odd dodged William's attacks as Harry and Aelita headed for the tower.

Yumi

The two backed away slowly before grabbing a skateboard and riding them. The dogs followed.

Ulrich wasn't faring too well as the dogs kept multiplying. He ran and Jim pulled him into the locker room.

"Yumi and Sissi managed to make it out."

Lyoko

"Better be careful you two. There are tarantulas," warned Jeremy.

Not hesitating, Harry fired at the tarantulas and blew them up. Several more appeared and one knocked Aelita out of the air before she flew up.

"I'll try to find out how Yumi, Sissi and Ulrich are doing."

Jeremy called Ulrich.

"Hello?"

"Jim? How come you answered Ulrich's phone?"

"Because he's in no position to talk. Your robot and its clones got him in the leg like they did Milly and Johnny. Listen Belpois, I don't know if you and your strange gang are able to sort this out but will you do it fast?"

"Harry, Aelita and Odd. You've got to move into high gear," said Jeremy as he ended the call. William turned into smoke and Odd ran after him. "Ulrich's hurt and so is Milly and Johnny."

"It's not exactly easy over here either!" called Odd.

"I wonder…." Harry placed his fingers on his head as an orange glow appeared. William's smoky form was forced into a sphere. "Aelita, get going. I don't think I can hold him for too long."

He could already feel his mental strength fading rapidly as William struggled against his grip. "I'm not letting you go William."

"I've got some unfinished business," muttered Odd as he faced the tarantulas.

"I've really got to work on my mental strength." Harry collapsed to the floor, releasing William who reformed in front of Aelita. Forming an energy field, Aelita fired and William deflected it as he started to drive her to the edge.

"Harry! You have to get up!" the desperation in Jeremy's voice was really obvious.

"I can but I won't be able to do much." Harry tried to push himself to his feet but his body was sluggish.

"Sorry my little buddy friends but's im the boss form now on!" Odd hit both of the tarantulas. "Woo hooo!"

"Yumi, Sissi, good timing!" Jeremy looked at the elevator to see both Sissi and Yumi unconscious with two robot dogs. He backed away from them. "Oh no. Guys, hurry up!"

One bit him and he shook it off as the other chased Kiwi.

"Just you and me William," called Odd as he ran at the boy. William ducked just as Aelita fired. The energy field hit Odd and he devirtualised.

"Good shot Aelita!" William chuckled as Aelita hid behind some rocks.

Lcoker room

"This is unbelievable," said Jim. "I called the police ages ago and they still haven't arrived."

"It's the dogs. They're not letting anyone through," said Ulrich weakly. "There's only one way out of this Jim."

"Yeah, and we already tried that," reminded Jim. "It didn't work. From now on, I'm chief officer of this unit. Hiroki, Tamiya get the mats over here. Herb, help me pile them up. We're going to build a barricade."

Lyoko

William ran over to the rocks and glanced back. Harry had gone.

"He's recovered already? Interesting."

Harry joined Aelita who used her creativity. William watched as Aelita ran out before going after her.

"Go Harry. I'll deal with William."

Peering out from behind the rock, Harry ran as quietly as he could as William lifted Aelita using super smoke and dropped her into the digital sea.

"I've fulfilled my mission Xana." A beam of light rose up and Aelita's ID card showed her disappearing. "Victory!"

"No! Aelita!"

"What's going on Einstein?" asked Odd as he poked his head up through the hatch.

"Aelita fell into the digital sea." Odd gasped.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that Jeremy," said Harry as he looked back. William glanced in the direction of the tower before holding his hand out with a ball of smoke forming. "And I think William's getting a little bit suspicious."

"Did you expect my father to bail me out?" William turned to stare at Aelita who had her arms folded. "He's not coming today. Surprise. I can duplicate myself too."

William chucked his sword at Aelita and tried to hit Harry with super smoke. Aelita devirtualised and Harry entered the tower just before the smoke hit him before popping his head back out.

"I'll play with you later William. I don't have time now. Sorry." Harry walked to the centre of the tower as William entered it. "Ok."

He rose up, causing William to miss, again.

The robot dogs pixelised before exploding.

"Jeremy, I suggest you launch a return to the past before William decides to get me."

"Return to the past now."

The white light covered everything.

Earlier

"And when I saw how the Kiwi's multiplied themselves, I decided to do the same. The rest was easy. William couldn't focus on both me and Harry at once." Aelita gave a victory sign.

"That didn't stop William from coming after me," said Harry. "I only got away because I was going up to the second level, causing William to miss."

"Aelita, you were amazing!" Jeremy clapped.

"Hey, she got away because William was distracted," pointed out Odd. "And I'm sure Jeremy was happy for Kiwi to distract one of the robot dogs."

"What are you trying to say?" asked Yumi.

"Dogs don't sleep in abandoned factories."

"Ulrich, it's your call," said Jeremy. "You're the one who shares a room with him."

"What? Oh, yeah, he can come back home."

"You feeling ok?" asked Aelita.

"Yeah, why?"

"You're acting strange," said Harry. "Thinking about Yumi?"

"And he's a better dog," continued Odd.

"Odd? Look at your pants," said Yumi.

"That's for ventilation," lied Odd as he looked at the rip. "It gets so hot here at school."

"You sure it wasn't Kiwi?" asked Aelita.

"Sure. Can we go eat?"
