Music to soothe the savage beast

"Now pay attention. An electrical charge is the current that flows through a section of electrical conductor which is expressed in amps. Potential is measured in volts. This is the energy needed to maintain the current."

"I don't believe it. The tickets for the concert's sold out and I have to go," muttered Odd in annoyance. "I have to find one by tonight."

"Relax Odd. Aelita is going to give us a ticket. She's the opening act at the concert so she's got tickets for all of us," whispered Ulrich, trying to reassure his anxious friend.

"I know that. The problem is that I need two tickets for tonight," explained Odd. "I promised Kelly."

"You made a girl a promise you might not be able to keep?" asked Ulrich in exasperation. "Why am I not surprised?"

"Ulrich!" Odd burst out.

"Odd, would you repeat what I just said? What exactly is an electrical charge?" asked Ms Hertz as she stared at the boys.

"Uh it's the…the amount you have to pay every month for electricity!" guessed Odd. Harry facepalmed as the class laughed at Odd.

"You're an idiot Odd."

"Not exactly an enlightening answer," said Ms Hertz as she turned back to the whiteboard.

"I think Aelita's more stressed out about tonight," whispered Ulrich as he looked at her. The bell rang and they quickly left the classroom.

"Are you coming to lunch Jeremy?" asked Aelita.

"Nope. I came up with a program to help us locate replikas! I have one or two more calculations to make! See ya!" He ran off.

"Huh. I see. So that's how it is," muttered Harry as he watched him go.

"I'll see you later too!" called Odd as he ran off. "I have an important errand to run! Hey Matthias! You wouldn't happen to have a ticket for the concert tonight?"

"Ya, no problem."

"You mean it?" asked Odd excitedly as he fished out his money.

"I mean it. You'll love these guys. Aerosmooth."

"Areosmooth?" asked Odd in surprise and annoyance. "It's the Subdigitals I want."

"Subdigitals…I liked them better as the Subsonics!" muttered Ulrich, reading the magazine as Aelita passed him. Sissi had dragged Harry to the shops again. Something about needing clothes for that night.

"Well Aelita? All ready for the big night?" asked Yumi.

"I'm kind of scared," admitted Aelita as she stared at the floor.

"That's normal. Listen to this. 'In our next issue: an interview with Aelita Stones, Kadic's brightest new star.' Did you know about that?"

"Milly and Tamiya haven't stopped hassling me about it," said Aelita. "It's getting on my nerves."

"Do you know what those two are like? Always looking for a scoop," said Ulrich knowingly. "And gossip."

"Think about the concert," said Yumi as she tried to distract Aelita. "Not the interview."

"Every time I do, I get butterflies in my stomach. If I could only get my mind off it for a little while… I'll go see if Jeremy needs any help." Aelita walked away quickly.

"Come on Harry! We only have a few hours to prepare!" Sissi dragged Harry into the dormitory along with several large shopping bags, several boxes and a pile of hats.

"I don't think Harry's very pleased. It looks like Sissi wiped him out," said Ulrich.

"I don't believe this, I'm jinxed! The last ticket slipped right under my nose just now!" moaned Odd as he joined the two.

"But…Aelita's got a free ticket for you!" reminded a confused Yumi.

"Yeah, but that's not enough for Odd's little harem," explained Ulrich with an eye roll.

"Laugh at me, go on. Wait until you see Kelly. Then you'll understand. I've got to make the first time absolutely perfect," explained Odd like he was talking to preschoolers.

"This is your first time?" asked Yumi in surprise.

"Let's not get into the details. I can't even count on help from my friends."

"Try my brother," suggested Yumi reluctantly. "The little weasel must have some sort of connection!"

"Hiroki! You're right, I hadn't thought of him! Yumi, you're a genius! Ulrich, you really ought to go out with her again!"

Ulrich and Yumi blushed.

"You do know that we're still going out with each other?" asked an embarrassed Ulrich.

Odd didn't answer as he ran off.

"Hello, we're looking for Aelita," said Milly as she and Tamiya strode over to them. "We were promised an interview. Do you know where we can find her?"

"She went to the gym," said Ulrich and Yumi at the same time. The two ran off.

"Well, here we are, supporting school press," joked Ulrich. "By misdirecting them."

Dorms

"Aelita! We've been looking all over for you," called Nicholas.

"We have. I may not like Harry but will you give me your autograph?" asked Herb. Aelita reluctantly gave them her autograph before knocking on Jeremy's door.

"Come in."

"Am I disturbing you?" asked Aelita as she pushed the door open and closed it again before sitting on the bed.

"I just finished my initial calculations for finding the last replikas. With this program, we'll find them with no problems," explained Jeremy. "And then we'll be able to stop Xana."

"That's great. Say Jeremy, about tonight."

"Oh, the concert. Bet you can't wait to get on stage," said Jeremy with a smile.

"Not really. When I'm alone at my mixing table, I'm fine but in a huge auditorium…"

"You'll be great Aelita. Don't worry about it," reassured Jeremy as he cleaned his glasses with a cloth. "Ulrich, Yumi, Odd, Harry and Sissi will be cheering you on."

"What about you?" asked Aeltia as she realised that Jeremy didn't include himself in the list.

"I have to wait for the calculations to finish running then I have a few things to do so I might be a little late. I promise to come as soon as I've finished," explained Jeremy.

"What? I'm dying of stage fright over here and all you can say is that you're going to be late?"

"That wasn't what I meant. If it's really that important to you…"

"Important?! I'm standing here, telling you I may not be able to do it, isn't that important enough for you?" She dropped a ticket onto the bed in anger. "Here's your invitation. You can always give it to someone else if you don't find time to come."

She stalked out of the room, passing Harry who stared at her before poking his head into the room.

"You know, you could come. It wouldn't hurt Jeremy. This is important to Aelita. You know that."

"Don't you have something to be doing with Sissi, Harry."

"Someone's in a mood." Harry collected the item that he'd wanted and left the room.

Odd

"I don't believe it!" Odd excalimed in annoyance and desperation.

"Take it or leave it Odd. I can get double the price from at least a dozen other kid," explained Hiroki.

Odd counted the money out.

"You wouldn't take an IOU, would you?" Hiroki shook his head.

Odd moaned as he walked away. Harry watched him go before walked over to Hiroki.

Rec room

"How was your hunting expedition?" asked Yumi as Odd sad down and put his head in his hands with a depressed expression.

"Not very well." Odd looked resigned to his fate as having another girl leave him.

"Hey Odd." Harry sat down next to him. "You didn't find a ticket?"

"One but I couldn't buy it because I didn't have enough."

"You mean this ticket?" Harry placed it in Odd's hands.

"You are the best Harry!" Odd hugged Harry.

"Odd… Need… Air!"

"Oh, sorry." Odd released Harry.

"Oh, here you are. I came to give you your tickets." Aelita put them on the table with an air of sadness.

"What's wrong?" asked Yumi.

"Is it Jeremy?" asked Harry.

"Yeah."

"Relax princess. You'll bring the house down, you'll see," reassured Ulrich.

"For sure," added Yumi.

"Yeah!"

"And don't worry. let me give you a few tips." Sissi started to drag Aelita away. "I know all about being on stage."

"Anyway, don't get there too late. The crowd's going to be really big," Aelita called back as she gave up struggling.

That night

"Surprise!" Everyone popped their heads through the door.

"We came to see our favourite star before she gets paid to see us," said Odd as Aelita put her make up on.

"Yeah and to give her good luck," added Harry.

"Don't be silly Odd. I'm really glad to see you. Did Jeremy come?" asked Aelita in expectation.

"Sure he did but we lost him in the crowd," said Ulrich.

"You know Einstein. A great head for maths but in the clouds for everything else," added Odd.

"Don't worry. He'll be out there listening and cheering you on," added Yumi.

"Aelita! You're on in five minutes!"

"Time for me to start concentrating."

"We'll take off." Yumi paused as they walked out. "You look beautiful tonight."

"Odd!" A girl waved at him.

"Kelly! These are Yumi, Ulrich, Sissi and Harry." Odd pointed at them as he introduced them before walking over to the counter with the tickets.

"Aelita! Can we ask you some questions?" asked Milly as she and Tamiya walked into the room.

"You couldn't have picked a worse time."

"Aelita, you're on in two minutes! I'm afraid you'll have to leave now girls."

Lyoko

A tower activated in the mountain sector.

Auditorium

"Hello?" asked Jeremy, still at his computer.

"Jeremy, what are you doing?" asked Yumi impatiently. "The concert is about to start. Aelita was really crushed not to see you."

"Oh, I didn't realise how late it was. I have one more calculation to run then I'll be there."

"Harry says that if you don't come, he will kill you," said Yumi as she tried to read his lips. "Or that he's going to eat a manta."

The computer beeped. "Not now!"

Harry rubbed his head. "You know who is attacking."

"Sophie, I'm ready," said Aelita as the woman walked into the room.

"So am I." The eye of Xana flashed in the woman's eyes. She knocked Aelita out before dialling a number on her phone. "Chris, Aelita's not at all well. She can't do the first part of the concert."

"Aelita!" Harry burst the door down as the music started to play to be greeted with a bolt of electricity. Sophie picked him up and carried them out of the room as the other four ran up.

"Uh oh. Not them as well." Ulrich glanced at the Xanafied Milly and Tamiya. "I'll hold them off. You go on ahead."

They separated. Sissi stared with Ulrich.

"Jeremy, someone's taken Aelita and Harry," said Yumi into the phone as soon as Jeremy rang. "She's probably heading for the factory."

"I'll try to head her off. You'd better hurry."

Factory

Jeremy leapt at the woman as soon as he could. She blasted him aside and entered the lab.

Lyoko

The two fell to the ground as monsters appeared.

"Ok, we're missing pretty boy," said Harry as he rubbed his head. Aelita flew up and started to attack. "And Xana didn't load my weapons! Why am I not surprised?"

"Because Xana is trying to get you under his control and he can't do that if you can fight back," offered Aelita.

"Possibly."

He ran forward, dodging the shots and kicked the Kankrelat into the digital sea as a manta cried.

"Uh oh."

"We're surrounded." The monsters approached them.

"And we're being herded too," added Harry as they backed up.

Lab

"Lateral crossing pattern and pincer strategy," said Odd as they saw Sophie typing at the computer.

"What's that in English?" asked Yumi.

"Let's go!"

Sophie blasted them back causing the coding to break down. They kicked Sophie and knocked her down.

"How was that for strategy?"

"I guess we beat you here Einstein," said Odd as Jeremy entered the lab.

"Where's Aelita?" asked Jeremy.

"Already on Lyoko with Harry."

Lyoko

"Hey, my weapons are back." Harry threw a shuriken at the manta but missed. Aelita jumped over the Kankrelat and towards the tower as Harry kept the monsters at bay.

"Are you ok?"

"Now that I've got my weapons back, I am," said Harry with a grin.

"Jeremy! This isn't where I was expecting you but I'm happy to hear your voice," called Aelita as they continued to run down the path.

"Sorry about the concert."

"We'll talk about this another time!" Aelita blocked the shots from the manta but was forced back to be stopped by William's sword. "William!"

William summoned his sword back.

"Come down here and fight me like a man William!" hollered Harry. William's manta stopped and they stared at each other. "One on one."

"William's here," repeated Aelita nervously.

"I see him. I'm sending you the cavalry."

Getting tired of the staring game, Harry shot the manta, casing William to fall and land on the path hard. Yumi's fan hit him.

"Ready for the tall, dark bad guy?" asked Yumi from a nearby plateau.

"I think we have an audience and William's more interested in Harry." Odd looked at the Kankrelats then at William standing up to face Harry with a look of concentration on his face before swinging his sword.

Ducking, Harry dodged the strike. William chuckled.

"Jeremy, we need some transport."

"I'm sending your vehicles."

Leaping over the massive sword, Harry hit William in the head.

Ulrich

Ulrich dodged the bolts of electricity.

"These guys are crazy," whispered Sissi as she threw a nearby hanger at them.

"Can't disagree with you." Ulrich picked up a stick within easy reach and used it to knock them to the ground. "Awfully sorry ladies, but no interviews!"

Lyoko

Yumi was being chased by William's manta. She threw her fan at it and missed.

William had forced Harry against a rock.

"What's the matter Harry? Can't fight like you normally can?" William looked startled when Harry disappeared before wincing as he got another laser arrow to the head.

"Don't forget my greatest weapon is my mind. I can think of plans to do with what I have available."

"Odd, lateral flight pattern and pincer strategy!" called Yumi.

"Are you speaking English?" asked Odd in confusion.

They dodged and started to attack the manta.

Lab

Sophie had overpowered Jeremy and taken control of the computer.

Lyoko

"What's going on?" The Overboard and Overwing started to disappear.

"Jeremy?" asked Yumi as they landed. No answer.

"Looks like we're on our own," said Odd. The manta attacked and Odd ducked underneath it. "Not fair! We're going to have to change the music!"

Harry tried to fire but nothing happened. "Not again."

He ducked under the blow before freezing as the tip was placed at his throat.

"Do you submit?" William looked pleased with himself. Harry answer was to knock his legs out from under him and run.

Ulrich

Ulrich cried out as he slammed into some boxes. Tamiya started to electrocute him as Sissi hit her over the head with a broom. Milly saw Tamiya's body and sit electricity across the stage. People screamed before starting to cheer.

Lyoko

Aelita ran from the manta chasing her and passed Harry who was running from William. She hit the Blok causing it to blow up. Aelita was hit in the back and fell off the platform, only hanging on by her fingers.

"Go annoy someone else!" Harry tripped and William placed his foot on him.

"You did challenge me to a fight."

"Odd, trampoline spinning-top action!" ordered Yumi.

"Got you!"

They performed the jump and Yumi knocked William away.

"It's game over for you, Yumi!" He sliced Yumi in two.

"For you too, handsome!" William turned to smoke to avoid the fans. "Drat."

The boy shot after Aelita, leaving Harry to run up to the tower.

"Oh, I was in the mood for a fish today," commented Odd as he watched the manta. He jumped on it and rode it, shooting at William along the way, causing the boy to disappear in red and black smoke. Harry entered the tower and rose to the second level.

Milly collapsed as the song ended. Ulrich and Sissi sighed in relief.

Lab

Sophie collapsed. Jeremy weakly stood up and activated the return to the past. The white light expanded.

Earlier

Someone knocked at the door.

"Come in."

"I wanted to see how you were doing Aelita." Jeremy poked his head through the door.

"Well, I have less stage fright but that could be because I've already been here if you know what I mean." Aelita smiled at him.

"No way would I miss the concert a second time."

"You know, I didn't mean to blow up at you like that," apologised Aelita. "I've put too much pressure on myself. Maybe it was insane to want to do this concert."

"Aelita, sometimes the sanest thing is to be insane!"

"And now let's put them together for a brand new DJ, Aelita Stones!"

People cheered as Aelita walked on stage and began to play music.

"Well, I guess she should go into a career in music!" yelled Harry over the noise before sending Aelita a thumbs up.
