Bad connection

"Come on Odd! Open this door right now!" yelled an annoyed Ulrich in nothing but a blue towel.

"Stern, what do you think you're doing walking around half naked?!" asked Jeremy in a deep voice.

"Ha ha, very funny. That's a pretty awful imitation of Delmas!" commented Ulrich as he turned to look at the group.

"It wasn't Delmas, it was Jim!" corrected Jeremy as Aelita, Yumi and Harry laughed. "But why are you dressed like that?"

"I've been stuck out here for fifteen minutes. Odd refuses to open up," explained Ulrich in annoyance. "And that means I can't get changed."

"Why?" asked Aelita.

"Who knows? He won't even answer."

"List me handle it." Jeremy walked over to the door. "It's, if you didn't open up right now, you can forget about my portion of meatballs! And if that doesn't work, Harry will unlock the door!"

"Nice try but it's not going to work," said Ulrich.

"You'll see." The door unlocked and Jeremy opened it. "After you sir."

They walked in, Ulrich taking the lead.

"What's wrong Odd?" asked Jeremy as they started at the depressed boy.

"You're not normally like this," added Harry. "Is it because of your film?"

"Yes. I mean, no."

"Make up your mind."

"It's not the first time that a film of mine will be screened for an audience of ignoramuses!" continued Odd.

"What's wrong then?" asked Aelita.

"My parents are in town and they're coming to see my film," explained Odd.

"Well, that's nice of them," said Yumi.

"It stinks."

"You didn't have a fight with them, did you?" asked Ulrich.

"No, just the opposite."

"What is it then?"

"A weird relationship problem. Most teenagers have lots of conflicts with their parents. A generation gap. Except for one. Me. My mother and father are always supporting me. In fact, they're perfect."

"I'll trade mine for yours anytime," said Ulrich.

"If there was only something we could fight over. So I can finally be a normal adolescent."

"What a major drag. I feel sorry for you," said Jeremy.

"We can feel your pain," added Yumi.

"Yeah, we wouldn't want to be in your shoes," continued Aelita.

"I can't imagine what it would be like to have perfect parents," said Harry thoughtfully.

"I knew I couldn't expect you to understand."

Outside

"Cheer up, with a little luck, they'll hate your film!" said Ulrich as they walked outside.

"Yeah, that would be too good to be true!" muttered Odd as a car stopped.

"How's it going kid?" asked Odd's dad

"Couldn't be better."

"It's really good to see you."

"And you look wonderful. Still have that great appetite, don't you?" asked his mum as Sissi joined the group.

"And these must be your friends. Odd talks a lot about you," added his dad.

They all said hello.

"We're really excited to meet you all at last. Here, a present for you. You can wear it to the screening tonight. Why don't you try it on?" Odd's mum handed Odd a box as she spoke.

"Ok but later. I'm fact much too busy now." He ran off.

"Guess he's a little excited about the screening tonight."

"That's understandable. After all, it is a premiere."

Principal's office

"You're absolutely right of course, Odd is undeniably talented, very creative, and intelligent as well as participating orally in class..." said Delmas from behind his desk.

"It's true, he is intelligent. You know, when he was barely two years old, he managed to completely take apart his uncle's stereo!" interrupted Odd's dad.

"And I'm sure that if he'd been four at the time, he would've been able to put it back together again!" added Odd's mum.

"Is that so?" asked Delmas in surprise. "I happen to be quite an electronics buff myself, and uh, well I, uh…ahem! Anyway, as I was saying, your son has many fine qualities, but-"

"Oh, you needn't tell us that! He's got qualities coming out of his ears! He eats well, he has a wonderful sense of humour, he loves a good joke!" said Odd's mum.

"Even when it's not funny!" added Odd's dad.

"He's a daredevil on a skateboard, and he has an excellent ear for music too!" continued Odd's mum.

"Yes, undoubtedly… no doubt about it. Though, uh, however…" said Delmas, trying to get his views across.

"If he wanted to, Odd could be at the head of his class! But he's just too modest for that," said Odd's dad.

"You were saying, mister Delmas?" asked Odd's mum.

"No, nothing…" muttered Delmas in shock and resignation at not being able to get the message across.

"Of, you've been very reassuring. You know better than I do that young people today aren't working hard enough in school."

"That's true," said Odd's dad. "As well as not concentrating. Well, we won't keep you longer Mr Delmas. I'm sure you have lots of work to do."

The three left as Delmas started to play a game. The game over music blared as the text flashed in his glasses.

"Daddy..."

"Is there something wrong dear?" asked Delmas as he turned to look at Sissi.

"My phone's stopped working." She handed it to him.

"It did?" asked Delmas in surprise. "I paid a lot of money for that."

"I think I told you to buy the higher price model." Sissi looked thoughtful then confused.

"Now, now. Let me have a look at it." Delmas took it.

"You know how to fix phones?" asked Sissi in surprise.

"Why I do! I have a true gift for delicate work like this. When I was your age, my nickname was "mister circuit breaker" uh, "fixer" that is…" said Delmas as he attempted to fix the phone. Unfortunately, his tool broke the phone. "Hm…is this thing still under warranty?"

Sissi growled in anger.

Hall

"Good evening. There are empty seats in the first row," said Jim as is Odd's parents walked in.

"A large popcorn please," ordered Odd's dad.

"Uh, sorry I don't have any. I may have a box of nibble jacks lying around in my room though."

"I was only kidding."

"I'm putting this to sleep," said Jeremy as he closed his laptop. "Odd would kill me if it went off in the middle of his film."

"At any rate, there's not much chance that Xana would launch an attack during the three minutes that the film lasts," added Aelita.

"That's tempting fate Aelita and you know it," said Harry with a small smile as Sissi sat down. "That means we're going to have a Xana attack. Thanks for jinxing us."

"Where is Odd?" asked Jeremy as he frowned and looked around.

"I'm going to go look for him," said Ulrich as he stood up as Chardin started to talk about the film.

"Please do forgive me for not having seen this work yet; I understand however, that the film cleverly combines fiction with documentary. Truth, in short, but, in the end, what is truth?"

Ulrich rang Odd's phone only to look at the status where Odd was sitting.

"What are you doing there?"

"Shush. You'll give me away."

"This is ridiculous, your parents are looking for you and we're looking for you. Get into that room and sit down!" ordered Ulrich loudly. Odd reluctantly walked down the stairs.

The two walked into the run as Chardin called Odd up.

A tower in the mountain sector activated.

Outside

Smoke came out of the fuses and into the antenna.

Hall

"First, I would like to..." a phone rang. Odd's dad picked it up as he walked out.

"We'll start the screening as soon as the director's father returns," said Delmas. Harry rubbed his head.

"Xana attack," whispered Jeremy.

"Hello darling," said Odd's mum as Odd's dad walked back in.

"Why don't you keep your mouth shut and so being your eyes at the old goat?"

They looked at each other.

"Well, there's the attack," said Yumi.

"Don't fly off the handle here," said Delmas as he tried to placate the man.

"Have you lost your mind Darling?" asked Odd's mum.

"I prefer losing my mind to having yours." He pressed his phone to get eat and her eyes rolled back as everyone else's phone rang.

"We've got to get out of here," said Harry.

"If everyone's alright, we can begin" said Odd.

"What does that little brat want?" asked Odd's mum.

"Maybe he wants us to shut his trap for him."

"If you get a call, don't answer," said Jeremy as they started to walk out.

Odd tried to slip away but he got caught.

"Hey, it's not very polite to sneak off like a thief of the night, you know!" yelled Jim as he blocked the exit.

"There's no need to get all worked up, I'll give each of you an autograph!" said Odd nervously as the group advanced on him. He ran past Jim once he was distracted.

"Let's give him a spanking!" yelled Ms Hertz as Odd ran into her.

"What's wrong with everyone, is it something they ate?" asked Odd as he ran from the angry mob.

"How would you like a loving spoonful?" asked Rosa as Odd ran into her too.

"I'm not very hungry."

He ran.

Lab

"What's he doing? Where is he?" asked Jeremy impatiently as they waited for Odd.

"I thought he was right behind us," said Ulrich.

"I hope he didn't get delayed by the attack," said Harry. "They did seem to be out for him."

"I'll find his phone." Jeremy ran a scan.

"Where is he?" asked Ulrich.

"You have three guesses and the last two don't count."

"The lunch hall," muttered Harry. "Why am I not surprised that the walking black hole is there."

Odd

The boy sat panting under the table. He sniffed.

"Meatballs! Come to think of it, I am hungry."

He scoffed it down. "Gravy. There isn't enough gravy."

Lab

"It looks bad for him. He's surrounded," said Jeremy.

"We've got to rescue him," said Ulrich.

"But how? The school's out to get him," said Aelita.

"I'll go back and get him," said Harry. "It's not hard for me. I can get him back here in no time."

"No, I'll go. It would be better if you were on Lyoko," said Sissi.

"We'll head for the tower," said Yumi. "It would be best if we deactivated the tower. Odd will need to wait and hide."

"Ok. Sissi is to help Odd and everyone else heads to the scanners. Let's hope Odd can play for time."

Lyoko

"It's the tower in front of you. On the end of the path." They ran along the path until they had to stop

"Any suggestions Einstein? Like a ladder maybe?" asked Ulrich as they looked up at the two on an inaccessible by walking platform. "You could have virtualised us at the summit."

"Sorry, there's a bug," explained Jeremy as he pressed buttons to receive errors. "And I can't even bring up your vehicles. Xana threw a virus into the program. I can send you the Overwing."

Harry shrugged and started to climb up. Ulrich and Yumi rode the Overwing and Aelita used her wings. Mantas arrived and started to fire at them. Yumi and Ulrich got knocked off. Pointing his blade into the rich, Ulrich stopped and grabbed Yumi's hand. Looking down, Harry paused before climbing up again.

Aelita hit a manta.

Odd

"He's got to be in here somewhere." Herb and Nicholas walked in. They started to search the room.

"Lunch time." Odd threw the plates at Nicholas then threw the pot when they didn't work due to Nicholas blocking them with a dustpan. Nicholas hit the floor hard and didn't get back up. "That is really awful wasting perfectly good food on a vegetable like him!"

Herb tried to knock him out but Sissi hit him with a pan. They slipped out of the room only to be spotted. They grumbled as they spotted Sissi. Odd and Sissi ran with the adults following them.

Lyoko

"Jeremy, what are you waiting for?" asked Yumi as they continue to hang. "Program the Overwing!"

"It's not working. No. It's a little problem..."

"You're not the only one." Harry picked off the manta from the top as Ulrich and Yumi fell due to Ulrich losing his grip. Aelita used her creativity to create a platform for them to fall on.

"Thanks Aelita," called Yumi.

Odd

The two students ran into the shed, away from the mob.

"Phew. Here we might have a little peace," said Odd as they started to relax. Neither of them noticed the man.

"Peace huh? Peace is what you'll get!" The man attacked them with a rake.

They fled again only to run into the mob. They backed away to bring into the gardener.

"We just can't get good gardeners today. And I promise to never complain about not having conflicts with my parents again," said Odd as they were forced into a circle. "This is worse."

"You've got it Odd," said Sissi. "I'll be holding you to that."

Lyoko

"Are you ok?" asked Aelita as she landed.

"Yeah. Thanks Aelita."

"Great." Ulrich looked down just for everything to become blurry. "Just great. Jeremy, what's happening with a vehicle?"

"I'm working on it."

"We could try to climb up like Harry did," suggested Yumi.

"It's much too smooth," said Ulrich as he looked at the wall. "And Harry has wings to catch him if he fell. If we fell, it would be a one way trip to the digital sea."

A Krabe fired on them only for Harry to hit it. He ran across the ledge to the second one and jumped up before stabbing it. A few stay shots firm the Krabes during hit Yumi and she devirtualised.

"Jeremy, we're not getting anywhere here. Xana keeps sending Krabes to stop Harry deactivating the tower," called Ulrich.

"Nearly there."

The keyboard appeared and Ulrich jumped onto it before wobbly flying away. "How does Odd manage to fly this thing? It's hard."

"He's not afraid of falling," says Aelita with a smile. "Unlike some."

Odd

"I'm afraid! Anything but this!" Odd stared down at the field from the top of the Science building with the mob behind him and Sissi. "Please don't make us jump off."

"Don't worry. You won't be afraid if you take one step forward," said his mum.

"Trust us kid it's for your own good," said his dad.

"Do you think we get a last request?" asked Odd to Sissi. "I'm hungry."

"They do have the right to that," said Delmas thoughtfully.

"One last club sandwich with organic mayo" requested Odd.

"You idiot! You could have asked for something that isn't about your stomach!" yelled Sissi as she avoided looking down. "Like a parachute to stop us hitting the ground hard enough to kill us!"

"Last requests are going to have to wait for later."

Sissi moaned.

Lyoko

"Nice of you to join me," said Harry as Ulrich appeared. "I was getting lonely."

A Krabe knocked Aelita out of the air. Ulrich threw his sword at it as he devirtualised.

"Hurry up you two. The coast is clear."

They ran to the tower.

"Which one of us is deactivating it?" asked Harry. Aelita simply entered it. "Ok, that sorts that out. Jeremy, can you bring me in?"

"Is there any point? I'm going to be doing a return to the past."

Aelita

Lyoko

"Return to the past now!"

Odd

"I think these children need a little parental guidance!" Delmas and Odd's mum walked forward.

"Let's get this over with," said Odd's dad as he pointed his thumbs down as their eyes turned back to normal before they looked around in confusion. "What are we doing up here?"

Odd and Sissi sighed in relief.

"You know better than to get so close to the edge, don't you?" asked Odd's mum as she and Delmas pulled them back.

"Oh yeah? I wonder who could have pushed me to the edge!"

The white light covered them.

Earlier

"And here we have a splendid specimen of a dung beetle!" said Odd as the film played. Jim was shown pushing a soccer ball with his hands but not going anywhere. Jim himself laughed along with everyone else.

"And now we have a magnificent field grasshopper!"

Mr Delmas was shown dropping a ball on his foot and hopping around in pain. Delmas himself looked annoyed. The clip then showed a bundle of sheets on Sissi's bed, like a cocoon.

"No, he's saving the worst for last!" yelled Sissi in anger.

"Calm down Sissi," said Harry trying to placate her.

"But what could this strange creature be? A spring roll?" asked Odd. "No, no! It's an enormous larva!"

Everyone laughed except Sissi. Harry stopped and watched when he saw Sissi's face. The clip showed Sissi climbing out of the sheets and stretching.

"A caterpillar! Metamorphosing into a lovely butterfly!" Odd winked at Sissi, who cringed in horror.

"I think that's inappropriate," said Harry as Sissi glared at Odd. "Funny but inappropriate."
