Chapter 23

Since Sam was staying home with Jackson today, Jerry was placed on T.O duty for the day to fill in for Sam. Jerry and I were driving down the streets of Toronto all day and responded to a car accident. Luckily no one was hurt but the cars were pretty badly damaged. We were back in the patrol car heading back to the barn.

"So McNally, how is your first week going as a rookie?" Det. Barber asked me.

"Good, nothing major yet." I replied.

"That's good. I heard your dad was sick, how is he doing?" Jerry inquires.

"He has got a stomach bug; he didn't want to pass it on to Jackson so Sam is taking care of him today."

"I hope he feels better." Jerry said. That ended our small talk for the ride as we pulled up to the barn. Jerry had to work on some of his open cases so he told me I was going to be working with Chris in booking.

I was sitting in booking with Chris when I heard little footsteps come running my way. I knew who it was from the giggle in his voice. The door to booking is usually closed so I knew that Sam must be close to him. I see Jackson turn around the corner.

"Momma, Momma." Jackson says and runs up towards me. I lean down and pick him up.

"Hey little man." I say. "Where's daddy?"

"Dada, dada." Jackson repeats and turns around to point at him, Sam walks around the corner with a smile and Jackson's diaper bag over his shoulder.

"Is everything okay?" I ask him.

"Yeah. I was called in because they needed me to send in paperwork that I forgot to finish yesterday. Jackson was looking for you all day today so I told him we were going to take you for lunch."

"Fooooooud,"Jackson says.

"Yeah little man, food," I say to Jackson in my arms, he claps his hands together. I hear Chris clear his voice behind me.

"Oh yeah Chris, this is my son Jackson and you already know Sam." I say as I turn around to face Chris. He had a shocked expression on his face.

"He's cute." Chris finally says after a couple seconds of being in shock, "hi Jackson."

"Hi Hi." Jackson says and waves towards Chris.

"You ready to go?" Sam asks me.

"Yep." I reply, "You've got this covered Chris?"

"Yeah, I'm good." Chris replies. I walk towards Sam and we exit out of booking and into the main part of the station.

"Swarek." I hear Boyko call out from across the bullpen. "I have the papers in my office."

"I'll be right back," Sam says and walked over to Boyko's office. I walk over to Sam's desk and put Jackson in my lap. I have sat here so many times with Jackson over the past year but it feels weird being here as a cop. Jackson is staring at a picture of the three of us that is sitting on Sam's desk. It was taken just after Jackson's first birthday a couple of months ago. Sam and I had talked about Jackson's name and we decided to switch his last name to Swarek, this picture was taken the day we switched it to Jackson Samuel Swarek.

"What are you doing with Sam's kid?" I hear Gail sneer beside me.

"Excuse me?" I say. Noelle must have been back for lunch and that is why Gail is not here.

"I saw Sam's kid yesterday in his wallet and that's him." Gail explains with a smirk on her face as she crosses her arms. Jackson was looking at Gail with a confused expression.

"Oh really, I didn't know that." I say sarcastically.

"So you are on babysitting duty. Yesterday Swarek let me drive and today he's got you watching his kid. He must think you're a great cop." Gail says sarcastically.

"Actually, I do think that Andy is a great cop. She will be ten times better then you will ever be." I hear Sam say from behind me. I smile. "If you even insult the mother of my child again I will make sure Boyko puts you on desk duty for a month." Sam says. Gail's face drops.

"Momma." Jackson says in my lap.

"Yeah little man?" I respond. Gail looks embarrassed that Sam caught her and she seemed a little disappointed to know that Sam was off the market.

"Foood." Jackson says.

"We're going to go to lunch now with mommy." Sam says beside me to Jackson, he also made a point to Peck that I was Jackson's mother. He picks Jackson up off my lap and we head out the station leaving a shocked Gail behind and a snickering Noelle, having seen the scene play out.
