Renesmee POV

I have to admit, before Aunt Alice mentioned me, I hadn't really been paying attention, annoyed that I wasn't allowed to be at the fight. Emily had promised that we would do lots of fun stuff together, but I would rather be kicking some Volturi butt. So I was very surprised when my name was said.

"What about her?" said my mother.

"Well," said Aunt Alice. "She can break through shields, remember? I'm not sure, but I think that might work on the spell, too."

"But her power only works for her," replied Momma.

"I know, but she should be able to stretch it, just like your shield."

"I can! I can!" I said. I'd do anything to help.

"But, Alice, it's too dangerous…" started my mom, ignoring me.

"Nonsense," said Grandma, smiling at me. "Jacob will be with her."

"Momma, please?" I begged.

She thought about it. "Fine. But if anything happens to her, I will hold you responsible," she said to Jake.

"Please, Bella. You know I wouldn't let that happen," he said.

"Okay!" I said. "Let's get to work. Um, so, how do I stretch my shield breaker thingy?"

My mom sighed. "If it's anything like my shield, then it should feel like...kind of like a blanket that's wrapped tightly around you. You have to try to push it away from you, and stretch it around others. When the person is inside, you should be able to feel it."

"Okay," I said.

It took a few tries, but soon I was able to push it out far enough to have one person in for about a minute.

"She's a natural," grinned Zafrina. "Much faster than Bella."

"Ugh, she took forever," agreed Kate.

My mom just rolled her eyes at them.

Mostly everyone started to drift away in twos and threes. Soon, only my family and Jacob were left.

By late afternoon, I was exhausted. Aunt Alice had announced that Daddy and Grandpa were coming home soon. Sure enough, they came in through the door a little while later.

"Daddy!" I exclaimed, jumping into his arms as he swung me around.

"Hey, Nessie!" he said, ruffling my hair. "What were you doing?"

"Daddy, Momma said I could fight the Volturi!"

He stiffened and turned to her. "What?" he said, looking angry at my mom for the first time.

"Edward, it's not what you think. Alice says that Renesmee can stretch her shield-breaking power, and that it might work against the spell."

"So? There's no reason we should endanger our daughter's life for that!"

"Jacob will be with her."

"Daddy, I want to help!" I said to him. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Fine. But if Nessie gets one scratch, then I swear, I will murder the mutt."

"She won't get hurt," said Jacob to him.

Daddy just glared at him.

"Daddy, don't you trust Jacob?" I said. It seemed as if my Daddy and my best friend were always fighting.

Daddy sighed. "I do, Nessie. But I'm worried for you."

I gave him a hug. "It's okay, Daddy. I'm a big girl now."

"I know you are," he said, hugging me back.

Just then, Uncle Jasper and Uncle Emmett came in. Everyone greeted them, and Aunt Alice filled them in on the details.

"They're coming tomorrow," she finished.

Everyone tensed up. This was the moment we had all been waiting for.

I was up all night practicing with my power, though Daddy and Momma had tried several times to convince me to rest. But working hard paid off. By the time the sun was rising, I could hold it over a large area for almost half an hour. Exhausted, I fell back onto my bed to get a few hours of sleep before the final battle.
