2015-October

The next day, Elliot went back to the hospital to see Summer and Carmela. After talking with Carmela and Dickie for a while, he headed into Summer's room. He smiled seeing her resting in her bed with Charlie beside her in the small bassinette that hospital gave them. He was also sleeping, his little chest rising and falling. William was in the recliner next to the bed, sleeping like a rock. Slowly, Elliot went over to his daughter and kissed her forehead. "Hey soldier." He whispered softly, remembering the first time he called her that. Her little form had been resting in the NICU with cords and wires hooked up all over her. She had just had her surgery and Olivia was down in her room sleeping.

He cupped the back of Summer's head and rubbed his thumb over her hair softly. Her eyes flickered open before looking up at him. She smiled softly. "Hi Daddy." She breathed, rubbing her right eye with her finger.

"Hey soldier. I didn't mean to wake you up." Elliot apologized.

"It's okay." Summer whispered and closed her eyes when he kissed her head again. She looked around and chuckled. "Everyone was asleep."

Elliot grinned. "Yeah, they were. I just visited your brother and Carmela. They said that Hailee isn't sleeping too well. She wakes up every hour for something."

Summer smiled. "Well, Charlie only woke up when he was hungry. The nurse said he didn't even wake up when he needed his diaper changed. He's a heavy sleeper."

"Well, you're a heavy sleeper. You just don't sleep for that long." Elliot chuckled before looking into her matching blue eyes. "I'm so proud of you."

"Thank you Daddy." Summer breathed, tearing up and wrapping her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her. They both turned when they heard Charlie. "I think he's finally ready to get up. We just fed him thirty minutes ago."

Elliot smiled, going over to his grandson. "Well, Grandpa couldn't wait to see him." He gently picked up Charlie and smiled when he yawned. "I can't believe how much resemblance there is between you two. He's going to have your smile. I can already see it."

Summer grinned. "Fin, Casey, Kenny, and Carly came by earlier. Casey told me the same thing, but Charlie does have a birthmark in the same place that William does."

"Where is it?" Elliot asked, looking down at his grandson.

"It's on the back of his neck. William's looks like a banana. Charlie's looks like a triangle." Summer yawned, covering her mouth. She smiled seeing her father with her son. "How is Carmela and Dickie doing besides with the whole lack of sleep thing?"

Elliot nodded and started bouncing slightly. "Good, the doctor cleared them. DJ is going to come and get them this afternoon and take them back to their apartment. Dickie has class tonight and Carmela needs to get caught up and fill in the sitter."

Summer ran and hand through her hair. "That'd be rough. I can't imagine leaving Charlie with anybody yet." She pulled her hair back into a ponytail.

"It takes time." Elliot smiled. "Your mother was extremely emotional when we left you guys for the first time." He looked down at his grandson before looking back up at his daughter. "It's not easy having kids when you're this young. Dickie and Carmela are both in college and they just had a baby. You're in high school and William is in the army. It's not going to be easy for you guys either. You're mother and I got really lucky."

"Yeah, Grandma faked her death, giving you guys a fortune. You joined the marines and stayed in New York the whole time. Mom went to college online. You guys got super lucky." Summer breathed, scratching her arm. "Billy and I have talked about it. And, we are hoping we found something that'll make us money for while."

Elliot looked up at his daughter and furrowed his eyebrows. "What's that?"

Summer looked into her father's eyes and exhaled sharply. "Well, you and Mom know I love writing. About a month ago, I finished writing a book and I talked to Alex. She is willing to help me publish it so I won't get ripped off. She'll help me go through all the paper work and she'll get me a good deal since I'm a new author. Billy and I aren't expecting anything. Well, I guess I'm not expecting anything." She rubbed her forehead and dropped her head back into her pillow. "But, we're hoping that if I get my book published, we could make some extra money to help pay for Charlie's things and to help us with our future. With Charlie and school, I am not going to have a lot of spare time, if any at all. I have one book finished and another that's halfway done. Slowly, I can work that one up and then double our chances of getting something published." She smiled lightly and her son and then looked back up at her father. "Do you think I'm crazy?"

"No, I think you guys are planning and realizing that your chances may not be the greatest. I think you guys are being realistic." Elliot nodded and then smiled. "Well, if those guys are smart, they are going to publish your writing. I've read some of it. It's good."

"You hate reading." Summer chuckled. "Other than my writing, you've only read instructions and owner's manuals." Elliot grinned at her.

2016- January

"Happy birthday to you!" Olivia sang with the rest of the family as she carried in the cake. She looked at Eli and Oliver and put the cake in front of them as Elliot pointed the camera at them. "Okay guys, blow out the candles." She grinned looking at her seven year old boys. They blew out the candles before everyone cheered and laughed as they both stuck their hands into the cake. "Guys! We all have to eat that cake!" She chuckled watching as they started licking the cake off their fingers. She moved the cake away from them and looked down at the cake that took her two days to make. "What am I going to do with you two?"

"Love us forever!" Oliver grinned, showing off his missing front teeth.

"She has to love us forever. She's our mom." Eli chuckled, cake stuck to his teeth.

Elliot laughed and hugged both of his boys. "You're both right. We have to love you because we're your parents, but we will love you no matter what because we want to." He kissed their heads and reached for the plates that had cake on them. He put them in front of the boys. "Use a fork with these."

He looked over at his daughter to find her eating the cake while William held Charlie. Every few bites, she would hold her fork out to William. Dickie and Carmela were both eating while Hailee slept in Charlie's bouncy seat. He looked up at Olivia as she handed out pieces of cake to everyone. Casey and Alex were talking in the corner while Fin listened to John's conspiracy theories. Kendle was trying to steal Zack's cake and every time got a fork to his hand. "El?" He looked back at Olivia to find her holding out a piece of cake. "Do you want cake?"

Elliot smiled at her and pecked her lips. "Why not?" Olivia grinned at him before taking a piece for herself.
