So when you get to part of the chapter, it's 7 hours later. Confusing I know, but trust me, it will make sense. Oh, and special thanks to my friend Mackenzie for telling me random knowledge about Halo. I really haven't played an FPS before so it was much appreciated.
"Nessa?"
I groaned as I opened my eyes to respond to my name. I could feel a painful throbbing in my head. I tried to steady myself and held onto the bed to steady myself. Wait, bed? I began to turn my head, but couldn't see much due to my dizzying haze. I blinked a few times, hoping to regain my composure. To my joy it helped and I was now able to see straight. I realized I was indeed in a bed, but I couldn't remember why. I looked around some more, noticing people around me.
"What happened?" I asked to no one in particular.
"You don't remember? Oh no Mommy! She might have amnesia!" A blonde on my right began freaking out.
Mommy. I'd heard that tone of voice somewhere before. Now that I thought about it I recognized the blonde too.
"Tamaki?" I said aloud, experimentally.
The blonde stopped crying, "You remember!" He ran to me and wrapped his arms around me. I could barely breathe when he began hugging me tighter.
"Tamaki, stop. Keep that up and she'll pass out again." A harsh voice came from a raven-haired man.
Tamaki stopped and dragged himself back over to where he was originally standing.
I looked at him and at the two next to him. "Kyoya? Haruhi?"
Suddenly, everything came back to me. Discovering that Haruhi was a girl, becoming the Host Club manager, Kaoru and Hikaru. Hikaru. He ran off, and I followed him. I remember running, but after that…
"Where's Hikaru?" I said immediately.
Haruhi was first to speak up, "Originally, he was the one who carried you here."
Carried? I smiled a bit, it made me feel happy. Maybe he didn't hate me as much as I thought.
She continued, "He explained the whole story and stayed here with you. Later Kyoya-Senpai, Tamaki-Senpai, Kaoru, and I showed up. Hikaru left a bit later, saying it was best for him to leave. Kaoru followed him. Honey-Senpai and Mori-Senpai had Kendo and Judo club to attend to, but they send their best wishes."
I zoned out after she told me about Hikaru and what he said. What did he mean when he said it was best for him to leave? I had to find out. I admit I was worried and I didn't know why. I really didn't want Hikaru to be avoiding me constantly, he was a friend, something I knew neither him nor I had many of. I made up my mind and stood to leave. Haruhi insisted I sit for a bit longer, but I didn't listen. According to Kyoya, it was already seven and I was running out of time. I thanked everyone and ran out the door. A limo was already waiting at the entrance for me. Kyoya had supposedly called my parents about the issue, so I wasn't surprised. I hopped in and my chauffeur took off.
7 Hours Later
Sometimes, I just need to clear my mind. On those occasions, I take a walk through this park. I know it sounds cliche but this park is really special to me. My old best friend and I would always walk through it on this path whenever something bad happened. Whether it be a break-up, the death of a family member, fights with friends and family, and especially when her parents got divorced. That was the worst. Her mom took custody of her and her little sister while her dad took their house and her brother. Her mom found a job and made them move to Seoul, South Korea. Walking through the park now felt even more lonely than usual. I hadn't come to this park until Hikaru and Kaoru brought me back here a few weeks ago. It was my first time walking through here by myself though. I clutched my jacket closer to me as I felt a gush of sudden cold wind. I wasn't sure exactly why I came here. Maybe it was the Host Club or maybe it was Hikaru's reaction to me. Maybe it was the fact that no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't seem to make anything better. It was frustrating. We were such good friends until Hikaru said that thing to me… I sighed and slumped down on a park bench and remembered all the times we spent together.
"First place, baby!" I yelled triumphantly.
"Again?" Hikaru whined, " Kaoru, she's too good. This game is getting boring."
I stuck my tongue out at Hikaru, "It's not my fault my family is a big video game corporation!"
"That explains it. Still, you're too good." Kaoru replied jokingly.
"Are there any games you aren't good at?" Hikaru asked.
"Well, since my family specializes in platformers, party games, and racing games, I've never actually played a first-person shooter. I don't know if I'd be good at them or not."
"Kaoru, go get the Xbox controllers! Time to play some Halo." Hikaru ordered.
I looked at Kaoru skeptically as he came back and handed me a controller, "So, uh, how do you play?"
"It's a first-person shooter. You sit there with a controller shooting people." Hikaru told me.
"As if it's that easy!" I retorted
"You'll get the hang of it. Just hit A to jump, B for melee attacks, The right trigger to shoot," Kaoru instructed, "The left button is to reload. Hit the left trigger to throw grenades. Of course you use the left control stick to move, and press the left control stick to crouch or to...uh... tea-bag."
I spit out my drink and Hikaru began laughing at me.
"We are playing a FPS, right?" I asked, unsure.
Hikaru chuckled, "Just play." He tossed me a controller and we began playing.
The match finished and Hikaru seemed surprised. "Nessa, you sure you haven't played Halo before?"
"No… why?"
"Because you have 127 kills and 3 deaths… For your first game."
"Beginner's luck?" Kaoru suggested.
"I guess so…" Hikaru commented.
I laughed, remembering the rest. I did even better the second time and Hikaru smashed his controller in anger. It took Kaoru ten minutes to calm him down. Apparently Hikaru wasn't used to being beat at Halo…
I stood and walked a bit farther to a bridge and stared at the water as another memory appeared. This one was about Hikaru, Kaoru and I having a picnic around this area.
"Slow down Nessa! We're going to lose you!" Hikaru yelled, running after me with Kaoru not far behind.
"Be faster!" I yelled back. I rushed into a secluded area in the park. It was a little area surrounded by trees with a small pond at one side. I set the picnic blanket down and took out the food I had brought.
"You're like a rodent, annoying, fast, and carefree." Hikaru commented as he walked into the clearing.
I glared at him, "Shut up and eat."
"Okay! Okay! Pushy much?" He grumbled and sat down.
I ignored him and continued taking food out of my basket.
"Wow Nessa, did you make all that food just for us?" Kaoru observed.
I nodded a yes and took out our plates and chopsticks. I handed each of them a plate and signaled for them to eat.
"This better be good. Otherwise I'm gonna go buy my own food." Hikaru whined.
I took a piece of chicken and shoved it in his mouth. He sat there, stunned, with his mouth opened for a few moments. I reached for his jaw and closed it while laughing,
"Idiot! Eat! Don't just sit there with your mouth open!"
He turned away from me, but I was still able to see the faintest blush cross his face and it made me smile.
I remember this all happened shortly after we played the 'Which One is Hikaru Game!' I giggled then frowned. I realized that if worst came to worst the only thing to remember the twins by would be those memories. I sighed heavily.
Kaoru's POV
I sighed as I stared at each little light bulb in the sky. I knew I shouldn't be out here, but I just couldn't help it. I felt guilty, upset, and broken. I looked down at my watch, 3:24 a.m. I sighed again and returned my gaze to the gleaming stars. I had sneeked out just an hour earlier to get away. Away from my life and reality. Away from Hikaru. Hikaru. What would he do if he woke up to me gone? I took a deep breath of fresh air to calm myself. I was standing on a bridge over a small creek in a public park. There was a cool wind and it was very peaceful. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to indulge in that peace for very long. My thoughts began creeping up on me again. Nessa. I had only felt this way about Haruhi, months ago, but shoved those feelings aside for Hikaru. I figured I should've been used to this feeling, but it seemed different this time. Everyday it got stronger and everyday I found myself thinking more and more about her. It was one of the few things I didn't understand, or rather, was too scared to understand. I didn't want another fight with Hikaru, but I just couldn't help getting jealous at the way Nessa seemed so worried about him and how she just ran by me after him. Almost as if… My fists clenched. Almost as if I wasn't there. As if I didn't exist. It hurt. I sighed. I guess this is how Hikaru felt about Haruhi's attention to Milord and me. It really hurt and I knew that at this point, there was no denying that I was in love with Nessa Sugiyama.
LONG CHAPTER! YAY! And yes, there is a Fall Out Boy reference in the chapter title. It's based on the song Thnks Fr Th Mmrs from their 3rd album, Infinity on High. I love FOB...
Hang in there my fellow Otakus!
