2020- September
Elliot rubbed his face with his hands after reading his file for the third time, still not knowing what it said. It was only noon and he still had five more hours of work. He looked up when he heard heels in the hallway. He was greeted with his smiling daughter, dressed to the nines. She was wearing a fitted white dress and white stiletto heels. "Hi Daddy!" She smiled at him before kissing his cheek.
Elliot smiled and stood up, hugging his daughter. "Hi, what are you doing here?"
"Well, I just stopped by to see if you and Mom wanted to go get lunch. I haven't eaten today and Billy and I are going to meet our realtor to sign the final papers for the house today." Summer explained, running a hand through her hair. "Plus, the writers and I need a break. We've been writing for the past three weeks to get more episodes for our first season in case NBC wants to extend our running time."
"They overwork you, Murmur." Elliot said, putting a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "You guys need a break. You go in every morning at five and get home at five that night."
Summer rolled her eyes. "I like it. I love it actually. Billy loves picking Charlie up from school and taking care of the girls during the day. He's starting to get a little restless, but we'll find him something." She poked Elliot's chest playfully. "He could always come work here."
"I am not working with your husband. As much as I love William, and I really do, I do not want to work with him." Elliot said gently taking her biceps into his hands and kissed her forehead. "Your mother and I should be able to do lunch. She just went to the bathroom."
"Okay, I don't care where we go. I just want to get my hands on something good." Summer breathed, watching as her father pushed in his chair. When he looked passed her, his eyes widened. "Daddy, what is it?" Elliot looked down at her and tried to convey words, but they weren't forming. When she went to look behind her, he pulled her to his chest, preventing her from looking. "Daddy, you're scaring me. What's going on?"
Elliot took in a deep breath as those eyes locked with his. The sick smile spread on his face as he was led to an interrogation room by Fin and Amanda. "I don't want you to see him."
Summer pulled back, still in his arms, and looked up into his face. "See who?" Her blood ran cold when she heard that familiar voice talking to Fin. "No." She breathed before looking around frantically, trying to figure out where he was.
"Hey, hey, you're safe. I've got you." Elliot whispered soothingly, holding her to his chest while cupping the back of her head. He kissed the top of her head and saw Olivia come around the corner, her face told him that she had seen Mike. He held his daughter tighter and rubbed her back. "I will never let him go anywhere near you."
"Hey, my girl is out there! Summer! Summer, honey, it's Mike!" Mike yelled from the other room with the cage.
Cragen came over and pointed to his office. "Take her in there. We'll take you out the back way."
Elliot, Olivia, Summer, and Cragen went into his office. Olivia cupped his daughter's face, soothing her. "Just take deep breaths, baby. He's not going to get to you with us around."
Elliot turned to Cragen. "What the hell is that son of a bitch doing here? He is supposed to be in solitary confinement at Rikers!" He boomed, stepping closer to Cragen with each word.
"El, we need Mike to help us with another investigation. His old cell mate is under investigation for... something he did in prison back when they were cell mates." Cragen explained, keeping it vague in front of Summer. "The case will be cold if we don't solve it in the next two weeks. After the last time we sent Olivia in to a prison, I wasn't going to do that again."
"You're damn right you weren't." Elliot nearly growled, remembering how hard Olivia was on herself after Sealview.
"El-" Olivia started, but stopped when Elliot looked at her. She knew he was only trying to protect them. Even if Cragen asked her to go undercover to another prison, it would've been a hard no. She looked back at her daughter and kissed her head before pulling her close.
Elliot looked at his girls before looking back at Cragen. "We are going out to lunch. He better be gone by the time we're back."
Cragen put his hands in his pockets. "He will be out of here as soon as he gives us what we need. We speak for all victims, not just one." With that, he left the room to give them privacy.
"I'll go get your bag." Elliot muttered to Olivia before going to her desk and grabbing her things, coming back with them. He looked and his daughter and wrapped his arm around her. "You ready?"
"Yeah." Summer nodded, straightening out her dress. She took a deep breath. "If he's helping you guys, what are you giving him?"
Olivia felt herself go numb realizing that they would be offering him something in return. "I-I don't know, baby, but we'll find out." She wrapped her arm around her daughter and looked, behind her, at Elliot nervously as they walked out the back way.
October
Elliot smiled seeing his daughter and granddaughters put things away in their new kitchen. After getting the house, William and Summer asked if they would help them move in. Since they were only three houses down, Elliot was more than happy to. He put down the box he was carrying and saw William and Charlie come downstairs. Charlie was watching William intensely, trying to match his father's movements. "So, is everything turning out?"
"Yeah, we have most of Charlie's things in his room. The girls have a few more boxes, but then we need Summer and I's things." William nodded before ruffling Charlie's hair. "Mommy will probably help you decorate your room."
"Probably." Charlie nodded with a shrug. "I'm going to go help Grandma." He said before running onto the front lawn, grinning when Olivia wrapped her arms around him.
"Billy, where is my music box?" Summer asked walking in and putting her hands on her hips. The girls came in behind her and hurried over to the few toys that were laying out on the floor.
William smiled. "You can't go a few hours without music." He chuckled when his wife grinned at him. "I put it up in our room since you like to listen to it when you get ready in the morning."
Summer kissed his cheek as she walked by. "You think of everything." She hurried upstairs.
William waited until she was out of site to lean closer to Elliot. "What was Cragen offering Mike to help them?"
"A TV in his room. He's not leaving solitary. I guess that Mike is starting to get desperate in there. Solitary confinement can make you crazy." Elliot breathed, remembering his experience in the hole. He shook his head, trying to clear the memory from his thoughts. "He will only get certain channels and they will monitor them so that Summer's show doesn't come on any of them."
"That's good." William sighed with relieve. He sat on the back of the couch and smiled lightly at Elliot. "El, the director of her show offered me a part. It's a cop show. I am going to be playing Summer's partner in the show. We already have to other guys on the show that we were friends with in high school. Summer didn't know anything about it until I asked her about it. Starting in January, Summer and I are going to be on TV together."
Elliot chuckled. "Wow, how did you get asked to be on the show?"
William shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he saw me goofing off one day when the girls and I went to visit Summer. But, in the show, we aren't going to be married; we aren't dating. I'm going to play a guy that just got divorced and is living with his father and two young kids. Summer is going to have a very complicated past and an older son." He grinned. "She came up with the whole plot. She wrote the first episode by herself. I have full faith that it is going to be great."
"So, you are going to work with your wife? That could get interesting." Elliot smiled.
"How interesting was it for you and Olivia?" William grinned, making Elliot laugh.
