It had been just over four days since Katherine had ran away from Gatsby's mansion and she had been sitting still on my couch, only moving when she was thirsty, hungry or had to go to the bathroom. She had changed out of her dress and wore one of my pyjama shirts, the material quite baggy on her small frame and it reached her knees. Her hair was out of its usual elegant ponytail and it rested on her waist in long waves. She still looked beautiful but her eyes didn't hold that mischievous glint, didn't have any of that happiness anymore.
Gatsby had tried to come around a few times, trying to coax me into bringing her out knowing perfectly well that she was in there.
"Nick, I know she's in there. Please just tell her to come out." He pleaded and I almost wanted to rush inside and plead with Katherine myself to forgive him and go home with him. But I held my ground and shook my head. "Gatsby, she doesn't want to see you at this moment. Please give her more time." I asked politely, almost desperately as I looked at the slowly ruining man. He still looked cool and classy but his eyes had lost their gleam. "At least let me talk to her. Let me tell her that Daisy has moved out and she's not there anymore…." He trailed off slowly and he looked behind me causing me to look back to see a slightly shivering Katherine walking towards the door with a small frown.
"Are you lying?" She asked softly, shivering either from the cold or emotion. Gatsby immediately removed his coat, draping it around her when she neared him so they were a few feet apart. "No." Gatsby began, his voice soft as well. "In my foolishness, I didn't see that it was hurting you and I apologize sincerely for all the pain I caused you." He finished and I backed away slowly in the hallway before moving into the kitchen when Katherine's shoulders began to shake and sniffles escaped.
The last thing I heard was "I just wanted you to be happy."
Katherine's words, they were.
It took about an hour for the two to talk it out and I watched secretly, a slight smile on my face as Katherine went into Gatsby's arms, hugging him tightly as he hugged her back just as tight. I closed the curtain on them before walking over to the dress neatly folded up on the couch and taking it to be kept in the closet, waiting for her to come and get it.
Though with all the dresses in her closet, I doubt she'll even remember it was gone.
Gatsby threw a big party that night as all his servants came back and made the place as fabulous as it was before.
I was quite surprised to see Katherine walking down my pathway, dressed white flapper dress tainted with hints of gold and white ballet flats on her feet. Her hair was in an elegant bun with strands framing her face and I couldn't help but smile as I saw the golden chain around her neck. I opened the door before she could knock and she jumped into my arms, muttering her thanks so many times that I couldn't even count.
"You are my saviour." She said softly while patting my cheek.
"I wouldn't say 'saviour' to be precise." I said, kissing the top of her head before resting my cheek on her soft hair.
"No, I think it describes you perfectly."
She led me out of the house, smiling and laughing as we entered the bright and busy compound, dancing and enjoying the flow of the beginning of a great night.
Little did I know that it could all come crashing down in so little time.
So….I updated after a million years of disappearance! I'm sorry for disappearing for so long but I was being lazy not to mention tired as I'm back in school! So I spotted this opportunity to update! So I hoped you enjoyed it! I do have one question though: Katherine and Gatsby, Katherine and Nick or no pairing at all? Up to you guys, the readers!
