A/N: I began this story many years ago and it saddens me to think that I left it unfinished. I will try my best to give a proper ending to these characters that you guys have learned to love. Bear with me, as I haven't written in nearly 4 years I apologize if my style has changed and not for the better. But as for now, I am back J
Chapter 6
"Wh…what happened?" Elphaba said groggily as she blinked a couple of times. Her throat felt raw and her head hurt like hell. The last thing she remembered was talking to Glinda outside. Where was Glinda? Elphaba's eyes began to adjust to the fluorescent lights up above. She looked over and saw that she was in the hospital wing of the castle. "Well this place is a sight for sore eyes." She joked mentally as she waited for the others in the room to notice she was awake.
Tahj was the first to glance over in the direction of the green girl. "You're awake!" he exclaimed as he strode over to stand next to his friend.
"Yes I am. What happened? Where's Glinda?" Elphaba scanned the room for the blonde but couldn't seem to locate her.
Tahj's expression changed from one of happy to one of disgust. This didn't go unnoticed by Elphaba. "I told Glinda to wait outside."
"Why would you do that?" Elphaba asked curiously. To her knowledge Glinda would probably want to be there if something had happened to the green woman. Or at least Elphaba wished she would want to be there. She still didn't know where she stood with the blonde witch.
Tahj glanced towards the doctor in the room to make sure he was occupied. Once he confirmed that no one else was listening in he leaned in to tell Elphaba what had happened earlier. Tahj didn't know why but he wanted to keep this a secret between the two of them. Once he had entered the hospital wing he had realized he had overreacted outside. That didn't keep him from shielding Glinda from Elphaba however. He still viewed her as a potential threat, although not as strong of once since she had cooled down.
"She what?" Elphaba asked in disbelief as she glanced out the hospital window to see Glinda pacing on the opposite side of the door.
"I don't know what overcame her. I wouldn't trust her to be around you right now." Tahj followed the green girls gaze to the woman on the other side of the glass.
Elphaba's brow furrowed as she thought about what Tahj just said. Had Glinda really tried to kill her or was this all just a misunderstanding? She heeded Tahj's warning but she couldn't just ignore her wife, or soon to be ex-wife if everything remained as it was.
"I'd like to see her." Elphaba motioned to Glinda.
"After everything she did to you?" Tahj was upset at his friend's request. He couldn't understand why she needed to see the woman who almost killed her.
"Yes. I need to hear it from her." Elphaba was adamant on needing to talk to Glinda.
"Fine." Tahj huffed before walking towards the door. "Well when she tries to hurt you again don't say I didn't warn you." And with that he was out the door striding down the hallway.
Elphaba was a little concerned at her friend's attitude as he shuffled away. She hadn't seen him so upset in quite some time.
"Ah…look who is awake." The doctor strode over to Elphaba to inspect her head as Glinda walked in the side door. Elphaba's eyes fell on the blonde and latched on to the blue irises of Glinda's.
"Any pain?" The doctor probed as he shined a light in both of Elphaba's eyes blinding her momentarily.
"Just a headache." Elphaba replied as she tried to refocus on the blonde. It was hard with white dots dancing around in her field of vision.
"Good, good." The doctor was pleased to hear. "There doesn't seem to be any permanent damage, just a slight concussion perhaps. Just make sure to stay awake for at least 12 hours and if you feel yourself getting sleepy anytime in between then I'd like for you to come back and see me." And with that the doctor had backed away from the table to go grab some pain medication.
The blonde had still not approached the hospital bed where Elphaba was laying down. She looked on at a distance afraid of what the green girl had to say. This separation didn't go undetected by Elphaba.
"What exactly happened Glinda?" Elphaba finally asked after 30 seconds of silence between the two.
Glinda looked down at her feet ashamed of her answer. "I pushed you into the fountain. I didn't mean to hurt you though." She shuffled her feet as she waited for a response.
Elphaba sighed audibly as she heard the truth from Glinda. Tahj had told her the story but a part of her still didn't want to believe it. "And why exactly did you push me?" Brown eyes met blue as she looked to Glinda for an honest answer.
The blonde stepped closer to the bed. "You just made me so mad Elphie. One minute we agree to a divorce then the next day you are second guessing it. You can't toy with my emotions like that." Glinda was angry again but not overly so this time.
"Elphie. She just called me Elphie." The green woman thought as she listened to the rest of Glinda's explanation. "She hasn't called me that in a long time." A part of Elphaba's heart stopped for a second. "Is she really sorry about pushing me?" Elphaba went through a multitude of responses in her head before she came to one.
"It upsets me that you would be so childish in the first place to push me into a stupid fountain." The green woman jeered at the blonde.
"I don't know what came over me. One second I was thinking about pushing you but I wasn't really going to and the next we are both in the fountain." Glinda admitted with a confused expression on her face.
"What do you mean? Did you suddenly lose your memory for a few minutes?" Elphaba joked harshly as she looked away from the blonde. She couldn't believe that their marriage was so bad that it had finally resorted to physical violence. Up until then they had only fought with words. She never though that Glinda would harm her or that she would harm Glinda.
Glinda looked confused for a minute or so after Elphaba's question. Had she really meant to harm Elphie? She honestly couldn't remember much after their fight on the bench. She remembered crying and that was it. "This is going to sound crazy to you…but no I don't remember pushing you. I…" the blonde trailed off as she tried to find an explanation for what happened. "I just remember feeling really angry. I have never felt that angry before Elphie. It scared me." Glinda's voice went from strong to weak in a matter of seconds. She looked towards her wife with unshed tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry." She apologized as she went closer to the bed.
Elphaba stared on with a confused look. Was Glinda just yanking her chain or was there something else going on here? She hadn't seen the blonde this upset in a long time. Usually she only ever saw her mad, not apologetic.
Before the green woman could form a response the doctor came back into the room with pills in tow. "Ah here you are Miss Elphaba. Take one every eight hours until your headache subsides." The doctor handed over the medication. Elphaba flipped the bottle back and forth in her hands thankful for giving her something to do. She didn't know how to respond to Glinda. Her wife had seemed genuinely sorry but no one just blanks out like that. Underneath Glinda must really hate her that much that she would be willing to harm her.
The doctor once again left the room leaving the two women alone. Glinda was the first to speak.
"I know you might not believe me and you have no reason to given our recent history," Glinda huffed, "but I didn't mean to harm you." There it was. It was out in the open and there was nothing more she could say. Either the green woman would or would not believe her.
Elphaba looked into Glinda's eyes and for once she saw actual regret in them. It was a look she hadn't seen in a long time. A part of her old Glinda peeked through. It hurt the green woman and so she had to look away. "I forgive you." Elphaba sighed as she looked once again at the bottle of pills in her hand. Amazing how such a little thing could be a big distraction at the moment.
"Thank you." Glinda felt a little bit better as she reached out her hand to cup Elphaba's cheek. The green woman flinched at the touch. Had it really been that long since she had touched her? She didn't have to think long before she remembered the answer was yes. It saddened her to think about what had happened to them but now was not the time to dredge up the past.
And with that Glinda turned around and walked out of the door leaving the green woman to her thoughts.

Elphaba sat a little longer in the hospital bed collecting her thoughts. What was going on here? First Glinda resorts to physical violence, which is unlike her and then Tahj storms off which was unlike him. Tahj was always level headed. The green woman shook her head as the morning replayed in her head. Maybe it was too late for her and Glinda. She still loved the blonde but they couldn't seem to be around each other without hurting each other, this time physically.
Elphaba got up from the hospital bed and went in search of her children. A distraction would be good at a time like this.
