Chapter 13

"Go tell the men that Ella's captor has been found." Tahj nodded towards Sheldon. The guard needed to let his men know that soon Ella would be found. It had taken maybe thirty minutes for the pair to confess but finally they broke. It might have been the constant dunking of their heads or it might have been the few fingers Tahj had managed to break. The Captain smiled, satisfied that his hunched had been right.

"Now where are you keeping her?" Tahj asked as he pulled at one of the already broken fingers on Dexter's left hand. The man in the chair convulsed in pain before yelling obscenities towards the guard.

"I'm not telling you. That bitch is going to die. You're never going to find her." The man said through gritted teeth. They may have been caught but he would have the last laugh. Elphaba and Glinda's daughter would suffer.

"I don't think you understand how this works." Tahj said getting aggravated. The man and woman had already confessed to drugging the little girl and smuggling her out of the castle via magic. Why wouldn't they just tell them where to find her?

"Oh I think I do." Dexter smiled mischievously as he glanced over at the slumped over form of his sister. Astor had passed out ten minutes ago, the pain of a broken hand too much for her. "You see, you can't do anything to us while Ella is still out there. You need us alive." Dexter laughed as Tahj lifted up his hand to smack his cheek. The area turned red but Dexter continued to laugh.

"I might not be able to kill you yet but I certainly can make sure you will never be able to walk again." Tahj lifted up his foot and hovered it over the mans own. He was ready to strike at any second. The younger Tahj would have been more concerned about resorting to torture but the older Tahj knew that sometimes it was the only thing that worked.

Dexter's eyes blinked as his resolve faltered slightly. How could this have happened? Just a few hours ago Astor and he had executed the perfect kidnapping. They had a game plan set and would implement it when sun rose. It had been Astor's idea to stop by the pub on the way home for a few celebratory rounds. He wished he had never listened to his sister.

"Don't seem so tough now, eh?" Tahj smirked at the look on Dexter's face. "Now why don't we try this again? Where is Miss Ella?" The guard tried to act tough but his own resolve was faltering. It was nearly sunup and Ella had been missing for almost ten full hours. Even if the little girl was somewhere safe she was bound to have been thirsty or hungry by now. Every minute counted and these kidnappers were giving them nothing. All they had learned was that they were responsible for the kidnapping, not why or what they hoped this would accomplish.

Dexter could do one of two things. He could tell the guards where the little girl was hidden and his whole plan would have been for naught, or he could keep the one victory he had and face what came his way. Either way his punishment would be severe. He had made up his decision and he knew that Astor would agree.

"Go to hell." Dexter yelled as a punch hit him square in the jaw. He was out cold.

Glinda began to stir when the first ray of sunlight shone through her window. She tried to move and felt limbs wrapped around her. She felt confined. Panicking slightly she opened her eyes to see why she couldn't move. She was met with the chest of her green soon to be ex-wife. The blonde sighed in relief as she remembered why she was trapped in these arms. Glinda had been so upset last night and Elphie was just so comfortable. She had forgotten how comforting those long limbs had been. Yes they continued to share a bed while they were married but they hadn't cuddled in so very long.

The blonde frowned at what all this meant. She frowned deeper when she thought about why Elphaba was here. She was here because Ella was missing. Their sweet baby girl was taken from them.

Elphaba's eyes fluttered open when she felt the blonde begin to stir. Yawning wide she looked over to see Glinda's saddened face.

"What is it my love?" Elphaba scooted over and put her arm around Glinda's shoulder. Almost as suddenly as she performed this act she remembered that it wasn't 5 years earlier and that this was no longer acceptable behavior. She made an effort to move her arm back before Glinda stopped her.

"It's okay Elphie." Glinda used the nickname she had come up with for the green woman. "I don't mind the company." She offered a weak smile as she placed her head back against the green woman's chest. The heartbeat of her love was comforting to hear.

The green woman tensed up slightly but eased back into the bed eventually. It was nice to hold Glinda like this. Why had it been so long?

"I think we should talk about things." Elphaba sighed finally. This all was great but it was confusing as hell to the witch. Glinda didn't respond so the green woman continued. "Glinda…I know that we agreed that a divorce was best but…" Elphaba hesitated. "…but now I'm not so sure." The green woman let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding.

Glinda closed her eyes as she heard Elphaba mutter those words. A part of her was happy to hear them but another part of her was scared. What if this was just a temporary fix? What if when Ella came back they went back to fighting? What then? She didn't know if she or the kids could handle another breakup.

"Are you going to say something?" Elphaba interrupted the blonde's train of thought. It had been a minute after Elphaba suggested them not divorcing and Glinda had still not answered her.

"Why?" Glinda mumbled as her head was removed from Elphaba's chest. She turned around to look into the eyes of her wife. "Why are you saying all of this Elphaba?" The blonde shook her head confused.

"Because I think we can work this out." Elphaba sighed as she looked into the piercing blue eyes of her lover. "We talked last night Glinda. You know how long it's been since we actually had a civil conversation? I know that one talk doesn't solve everything but it's a start." The green woman searched Glinda's eyes for any hope that the blonde wanted the same thing.

"I can't just forget these past five years." The blonde looked away from Elphaba's glare. She didn't want to see the disappointment in those eyes. "I don't know if I can get past this for you."

"Then don't do it for me. Do it for the girls." Elphaba offered before raising her bracelet to show Glinda. She hadn't taken it off since their twin girls had made it for her. "Kiora and Ro made this for me. It's supposed to represent our family. There is you, me, Ella, and the twins." Elphaba forced Glinda to look at the bracelet.

Glinda looked towards the article of jewelry before tears began to form in her eyes. She couldn't be expected to forgive Elphaba of all the hateful things that had been said over the years. But maybe she could try.

"Can we just lay back down?" Glinda sighed as she pushed Elphaba back onto the bed. "I just want to sleep." And with that there was nothing more said between the two. Before Elphaba could wonder what kind of a response that was the blonde curled up beside the green woman wrapping an arm around her abdomen.

The two soon fell back asleep in each other's arms.
