Chapter 9: A Camping Trip!
It was a gloomy rainy day, and Ventus and Lea were walking down one of the dozens of corridors that connected the halls in the Castle of the Land of Departure.
It was then that they heard some familiar snickering through an open door off to the side. The two boys curiously peaked through the crack of the wooden door, and to their surprise they found what looked like a fort of bed sheets and pillows in between two beds.
"Hey Ven!" Sora's head popped out from behind a pillow they used as an entrance.
Little Kairi's head popped out right next to Sora's and she beamed at the two's arrival. "Lea, look what we did, it's like a big tent!"
Riku had climbed over both of them and he gave a proud grin. "We decided to go camping inside since it's still storming out there." He pointed a tiny finger towards the nearby window.
"Hey do you see any of us complaining?" Ven smiled.
"That's a nice looking fort you got there." Lea crossed his arms while he expertly inspected the children's handiwork. "But not as good as me, the Master of Pillow Forts! Got it memorized?"
"Oh grow up Lea..." Riku brushed off.
"No, you grow up." Lea shot back in a mockingly tone.
Ven declared. "It'll be a real hot and sunny day tomorrow, so how about the next night, we'll all camp outside?"
"YEAH!" They all agreed.
And a grand camping trip they planned indeed. Master Eraqus caught wind of it and decided that a night outside the absolute safe comforts of the Castle was a good idea for the apprentices. So he assigned not only Lea and Ven but also Terra and Aqua and even Vanitas to his dismay.
They all decided to set up camp on the mountain above the Training Grounds, it was nearing dusk and they were all setting up their communal tents.
There were three tents set up in a circle around a crudely made fireplace to roast marshmallows and other goodies.
"Alright, Kairi and I will take one tent, so you guys divide into each tent for yourselves." Aqua smirked.
In all, there were two children and four boys to decide where they wanted to sleep.
Vanitas lazily pointed over towards a comfy patch of grass in between the tents. "...I'll just be over there..." He proceeded to place his sleeping bag in the grass to confirm his solitude for slumber.
"I can watch over the kids if you and Lea want your own tent." Terra offered.
"Yeah sure, whatever. But I plan on staying up all night!" Lea excitedly said as he fiddled with the fireplace trying to spark some flames.
"I guess that settles that." Ven nodded as the arrangements. "What's next?"
"Let's go on a hike!" Sora suggested.
"That's a splendid idea." Aqua smiled. "Why don't you, Kairi, and Riku go with Terra with a walk through the forest for a while?"
"Sure." Kairi and Riku smiled for the exploration.
"Let's go then kids." Terra waved over as the tall brunette led the tiny pack on a hike through the scenery for a while.
Lea was pointing his Keyblade towards the pile of logs. "I don't know about you guys but I'm-! Whoa!"
The wood had suddenly burst into flames! So much so that the burning debris that was spewed out threaten to catch fire to the tents around them! Luckily, the heated situation was cooled and the fire was finally lit.
"LEA!" They all scolded.
"What?" Lea whined.
"You used to much fire magic!" Aqua lectured while she wagged her finger at him. "You're lucky the kids weren't around to see this."
"...Yeah." Vanitas chuckled. "It would be a shame if all of this were to go up in flames..."
"Let's just calm down everybody." Lea inquired. "So, can we break out the s'mores yet?"
"No, not until the hike is over and they get back." Aqua retorted. "We can just talk or play a game or..."
"We can sing!" Ven had seemingly pulled a guitar out of nowhere and he started to play it, strumming its strings. "I call this one the 'Campfire Song' song."
"No! Not that one!"
Ven sang. "C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E-S-O-N-G song, C-A-M-P-F-!" But Lea was able to cover his mouth while Vanitas grabbed the guitar from the spiky blonde, and he smashed it into a million pieces!
"That was a little extreme..." Aqua stared at the trio wide-eyed.
"We just did you a great service." Vanitas crossed his arms. "Let's do something else..."
When they all joined together for the night, everyone started making s'mores and mountain pies!
Next time, let's have Isa come to the next shindig!" Lea laughed. "He'll enjoy it!"
"Really?" Ven replied.
"No." Lea smirked. "But still."
