I do not own Teen Wolf. This is all for fun.
Kate walked over to the voltage machine and juiced it up. Derek began to growl in pain as she moved the meter higher, letting more volts pulse through him.
"What are you doing to him? Is that gonna kill him?" Allison asked and her voice was edged with fear.
"Oh come on kiddo. Don't get all ethical on me now." Kate replied and upped the volts just a bit more before letting it stop.
Kinley cringed at the sound Derek made when she increased the voltage running through him. Luckily, Kate was watching Allison and not her.
"What is he?" Allison asked and looked at both Kate and Kinley for an answer. Kinley refused to speak.
"Shape-shifter, lycan, werewolf." Kate listed and laughed. "To me, he's just another dumb animal."
Kinley knew that Kate was fairly black and white about the whole monsters thing and believed them all to be evil, but this was more than that. She was sadistic. She enjoyed watching Derek in pain. It was sick.
"And you knew about this?" Allison asked Kinley directly.
"Yes, I..I did. My family is sort of like yours. I mean, your family handles things a little bit differently than mine, but yes, we both hunt supernatural creatures when they have done something wrong." Kinley put emphasis on her last part of her sentence.
"So you knew this whole time and didn't say-" Allison started
Kinley cut her off. "It wasn't my secret to tell. Remember in the car. You knew I had the information you wanted, but I told you to go to Kate. If it came down do it, I would have answered you honestly like I'm doing now."
Allison seemed somewhat satisfied with Kinley, but still not thrilled with her. She then turned toward her aunt for more information. Kate took this opportunity as a teaching moment and walked up to Derek who was just hanging there limply from the electroshock therapy Kate just administered. She pulled his mouth up and showed Allison his fangs. Kate explained that basically they were meant for tearing flesh and not eating salads. Kinley could see Allison's hesitation toward Kate's way of thinking. Allison asked about the attacks and if he had specifically done them. Allison didn't want to believe that all these creatures were all evil. Kate however wanted to force that instinct out of Allison. Kate explained that the attacks were caused by him, even though that was a lie, and then told Allison about the other werewolves in town. Thankfully, it still seemed that they didn't know Scott was the second beta. That was one good piece of news, Kinley thought.
Kate seemed satisfied with Allison's first lesson and led the girls out of the room. Kate shut and locked the large metal door. They were now in a dark, dank hallway lit only by small work lights lining the walls. They were underground somewhere. Kinley really wished she knew exactly where. At some point she was going to need to get Derek out of there.
"When were they planning on telling me?" Allison asked her aunt.
"They still haven't decided if they're gonna tell you." Kate answered.
Allison crossed her arms. "Why?" Allison asked defensively.
"Let's just say if you react badly when you find out...not good." Kate told her and began leading the girls out of the tunnel they were in.
"What do you mean, 'not good.'" Allison pressed.
"They don't think that you can handle it." Kate responded. "They look at you and they see this frightened little girl who's gonna run crying in the corner when she finds out the truth. Me? What do I see? Natural talent." She told Allison.
Kinley could tell that Allison was still processing and had no idea what to do with what her aunt told her. Kate stopped in the hallway and looked at Allison very seriously this time.
"Allison, you wanted to feel more powerful, right?" Kate asked and Allison nodded. "Now's your chance." Kate told her.
"What am I supposed to do now?" Allison asked.
"Go to school, do your homework. Go to the formal on Friday night. Be a normal teenage girl who doesn't know anything. Trust me to get everything ready for the next part." Kate told her.
"What's the next part?" This time it was Kinley who asked the question.
"She's gonna help me catch the second Beta." Kate replied and indicated that it was Allison that was going to help her this time. Kinley didn't like this at all.
Before they left the tunnel, Kate put the blindfolds back on them and drove them back to the Hale house. It felt like a different route to Kinley this time. Kinley guessed she really didn't want anyone to know where Derek was being held. Kate told Allison to drive her car home and let Kinley get some rest. Kate said she was going to be staying with Derek to try and find out who the other beta was.
Allison walked Kinley over to her car.
"So, how are you doing with all of this?" Kinley asked.
"Truthfully, I have no idea. I don't know how you can keep this huge of secret." Allison replied. "But I'm glad I know now. At least there's no more lies. I just need to collect my thoughts on everything. I will see you at school tomorrow." Allison told her.
Kinley wanted to say something, warn Allison about her aunt's not so perfect view on the supernatural world, but it wasn't her place. So she kept her mouth shut. She just hoped it didn't cause Allison to do anything stupid. She hoped Allison would make the right choices by being the girl Kinley had come to know.
Kinley got into her car and left the Hale house. The whole way home she couldn't help thinking about how hard this must be for Allison. It was going to take Allison more than a night to get used to all the information she just got. Kinley also couldn't believe how much Kate left out. She didn't mention the code or why they do what they do. It's like she was trying to turn Allison into a cold blooded killer. Kinley was going to have to keep an eye on Allison along with everyone else. Maybe Kinley could show what Kinley believed was the better way to be a hunter.
The next morning Kinley woke up with her phone buzzing in her ear. She didn't recognize the number on the screen. She was so tired that she answered anyway.
"Hello." She yawned into the phone.
"Hello, Kinley. It's Deaton. I need you to come and get Scott from the animal clinic. He had a bad night." Said Deaton.
"A bad night...what?" Kinley suddenly felt fully awake. "How did you even get this-" Kinley stammered.
"That doesn't matter now. I will explain when you get down here. Please, he needs to get home to heal and rest, and I can't leave the clinic right now." Deaton explained.
Kinley groaned. "Okay, but I expect answers." She told him and hung up the phone.
Kinley looked at the clock. It was just after 6am. The time made Kinley groan again. She could be sleeping, the most wonderful activity that exists. What did Scott get himself into last night? She looked over at the other motel bed and saw Penn was fast asleep. Kinley thought about waking Penn up to let her know she was going out but decided against it. Penn needed to sleep and Kinley knew Penn was getting used to her erratic coming and goings. She hardly even asked about her days anymore.
10 minutes later, Kinley pulled up in front of the animal clinic. She headed to the same room she found Deaton and Derek in just weeks ago on that horrible night they got locked in the school. Deaton was standing over the exam table that held Scott who was shirtless with a large bandage covering his left side. Kinley ran over the moment she saw the poor kid. He was a lot more hurt than she had expected.
"Don't worry, he's fine." Deaton told her. "He'll be awake soon enough. I just didn't want him running off and doing something stupid before he healed. But thanks for coming so quickly."
"Thanks for...thanks for coming? Are you serious? Who are you?" Kinley demanded.
Deaton walked around the table to get closer to Kinley. "Out of everyone here I thought you would know. You were coming to talk to me that night Derek accused me of being the alpha, right?" He replied. "I'm surprised you haven't stopped back in."
"Yeah, well things have been a little...busy if you haven't noticed." Kinley replied slightly agitated by Deaton and his cryptic speaking. "Besides that was when you were my uncle's old contact and not some mysterious man who knew who I was even though you had never met or talked to me."
Deaton just laughed. "That's what you think. And your uncle and I have been friends for years. You don't think he would have showed me photos of you and Penn every time he saw me. Also you're a mini version of your mother which makes you very easy to recognize."
Kinley's jaw dropped. Did everyone in this town know her parents? This was becoming ridiculous. What was this place. "No, no, no, not again. The Argents know them, you know them. Why am I the only one who doesn't!?" Kinley yelled.
"Everything will be explained in time." Deaton told her calmly.
"'In time.' 'In time', seriously?" Kinley was trying to keep calm but these vague answers were pushing her over the edge. "Because so far I have heard nothing my whole life. No one knows how or why they died or the way they died. No one knows anything about the time leading up to their death. Most people don't even know them, but now that's all different. Now, everyone knows them. They're everyone's old pals. Well that's just great. Then their's my life that's spiraling out of control and no one's telling me anything! Nothing is revealing itself!"
"Not even your gifts?" Deaton asked.
Kinley felt like she just got slapped and she just froze, wide eyed, staring at Deaton. How did he know? He was knocked out when she used her power here. There was no way he saw what she did. Who was this man? All sorts of questions began to flutter in her head, but she wasn't sure he would answer them if she asked. "How do you know about that?" She asked and backed a little away from him.
"I know much more than you think." He replied and there was a look in his eye of wonder and curiosity.
Before they could continue, Scott shot up on the table quickly. Both Deaton and Kinley forgot their conversation and ran to Scott.
"Welcome back to the land of the conscious." Deaton told Scott. Scott's muscles relaxed as he realized where he was. Scott stood up on the floor and almost fell. Deaton put a hand on his chest to steady him. "You doing okay?" Deaton asked. "Maybe you should sit down."
"What happened last night?" Kinley asked.
Scott leaned against the exam table. "Derek. He went after Jackson so I had to stop him. I got Jackson out but then the Argents' intervened. I made it out but barely."
"Did the Argents' see you?" Kinely asked.
Scott shrugged.
Just then all three of them turned their head to the door. A bell jingled, signalling someone had walked in. Deaton went to leave the room. Scott put up a hand to stop him. Deaton waved his hand away and went out the door. Scott tried to follow, but Kinley told him to stay, and she followed instead. She guessed the only reason Scott stopped was because he was still in pain.
"Sorry, we're closed." Kinley heard Deaton say as she left the exam room to follow him.
As she walked out into the waiting area, she saw Peter standing there on the waiting room side.
"I am here to pick up." Peter told Deaton and then looked at her with a devious smile. Kinley returned his smile with an extreme look of loathing.
"I'm not sure I remember you dropping off." Deaton told Peter.
Deaton did not seem at all scared of the alpha werewolf standing in front of him. All his words came out clear and steady. Who was this guy, Kinley thought for the thousandth time.
"This one wandered in on its own." Peter replied and walked closer to the front desk.
Deaton still remained standing frozen. His only movement was inching in front of Kinley to keep her behind him. "Even if he did, I'm afraid I can't help you. We're closed." Deaton said.
"Well, I think you can make an exception this one time, don't you?" Peter said and still got closer to the counter.
The space between the two of them was getting quite small. Every step Peter took toward Deaton, Deaton moved more in front of Kinley. Peter was so close that it was only moments before he jumped the gate and took a clawed swing at Deaton who just seemed unphased by this whole conversation. Deaton was now completely in front of Kinley. She could barely see Peter.
"I'm sorry. That's not going to be possible." Deaton replied calmly. "Maybe you could come back during regular hours." He suggested.
Peter sniffed the air to make his point. "You have something of mine." There was no lying about Scott not being here now. Peter could smell him."I'm here to collect it." Peter insisted.
Deaton stared him down, not moving a single inch. Peter was looking more and more displeased because of Deaton's lack of hospitality. Kinley was fearing more and more for Deaton's life for the same reason.
"Like I said, we're closed." Deaton stated and took a step this time. Deaton was making sure Peter knew that he was not afraid of him and that Peter was not getting passed him either.
Peter reached for the gate which was open when Kinley arrived but was now randomly closed. As Peter went to open the gate, he suddenly stopped. Did he stop or did something make him, Kinley questioned as Peter quickly moved his hand away from the gate dividing the room. Peter scratched it and looked more pissed off than before.
"Mountain ash. That's an old one." Peter said. His eye narrowed-in on Deaton, and then he swiftly turned, grabbed the chair behind him, and threw it at Deaton. Kinley ducked to avoid anything hitting her. Deaton just remained standing exactly where he was. A piece of the chair hit him, but he didn't flinch. Kinley stood back up next to him.
"Let me be as clear as possible. We. Are. Closed." He said and stated each word as its own sentence. He never took his eyes of Peter as he said them either. Kinley was pretty sure that Deaton didn't take his eyes off Peter the whole confrontation. She didn't even think he blinked.
Peter grabbed the collar of his coat gruffly and pulled it closed. He knew he had been beaten for now. He walked out, and as he did, Kinley saw he whispered something. She couldn't hear it, but she knew Scott could. That was how Peter wanted it. Peter then walked out and Deaton ushered her back into the exam room with Scott.
"What did Peter say?" Kinley asked urgently.
"He's going after Allison." Scott replied and his face was pale with fear.
Stiles, Scott, and Kinley were all in Scott's bedroom. Kinley had gotten him home easily. He was healing fairly quickly and almost back to full strength. She really wanted to continue her conversation with Deaton, but they didn't have time. She wondered when she would have time. With Peter now threatening friends and all the other usual nonsense, she knew it might be a while, but she was getting her answers soon enough. He knew things and he was going to fess up to them.
Scott was running around the room trying to find his phone while Stiles sat backwards in a chair watching him search. Stiles was very little help at the moment. Kinley felt weird rifling through Scott's room, so she just sat on his bed and called his phone, hoping it would ring.
They were also trying to figure out what their next step was after the crazy of this morning. So far, Derek was missing. They knew that the Argents had him, but they just didn't know where. Then, Peter was after Allison in order to find Derek. So Scott decided that they needed to find Derek first in order to keep Allison safe. Stiles was not exactly thrilled with the 'save Derek' side of the plan.
"Alright so we just let the Argents do what they're planning, you know? They use Derek to get to Peter, problem solved." Stiles offered as Scott was in his bathroom throwing out clothes, still frantically trying to find his missing phone.
Scott walked out of the bathroom in a frenzied state. "Not if Peter's going after Allison to find Derek!" Scott replied hysterically. "I can't protect her on my own, which means we need to find Derek first. Just..." He looked at the two of them with pleading eyes. "Just help me!"
"We are and we will." Kinley replied.
"No,... I mean yes. I meant help me find my phone!" Scott replied and threw a small soft basketball at Stiles' head.
"Oh." Kinley responded. She didn't quite have the Scott speak down like Stiles.
"You know you probably lost it when you two were fighting. You remember that, when he was trying to kill you? After you interrupted him trying to kill Jackson? Are you starting to see a pattern of violent behavior here?" Stiles asked.
"He wasn't going to kill anyone." Kinley told Stiles. Scott pointed at her in agreement. "And I'm not letting him die." She told the both of them.
"Couldn't you at least think about letting him die? For me!" Stiles replied exasperatedly.
Kinley just shook her head at Stiles. Scott then twitched and looked toward the window.
"Now what?" Stiles asked and sounded like he really didn't want an answer.
"My mom just got home from work." Scott said and then he focused on listening to her. Kinley and Stiles waited patiently for Scott to re-focus once his mom was done speaking. Scott however began to look forlorn and guilty.
Stiles looked at Scott with concern. "Is she okay?" Stiles asked. Scott shook his head no.
"What's she doing?" Kinley asked and walked over to Scott to put a hand on his shoulder.
"Crying." was all Scott said. He shrugged her hand off and went to sit on his bed.
"Scott you can't protect everyone." Stiles told him.
Scott just stared straight down and said, "I have to."
After that, they gave up looking for Scott's phone and the three of them went to school.
As the week went on, they still had not figured out a plan to save both Allison and Derek. Kinley wished she knew where Kate had taken her when she revealed the family secret to Allison. That would make everything immensely easier. He had to be near the Hale house, but she just didn't know where. It was driving her mad. She tried to re-play the routes and turns Kate made to get them to her hiding spot, but it didn't lead her anywhere and each way had a different path. She made a heat run both times. Kate was hiding Derek at all costs.
Scott also got no sleepover that time. Kinley kept trying to tell him she could watch Allison's house for a little while. He kept refusing her. One night he was so exhausted he fell off of her roof. Kinley almost had no sympathy for him, but she understood his paranoia. If anything happened to her because he let someone else do what he felt responsible for, he would never be able to live with himself. Kiney knew the feeling all too well.
Then later that week, they got some more bad news. Scott's plan to keep an eye on Allison at all times hit a little snag when Coach told him he was not allowed to go to the formal because of his grades. Coach traded Scott going to the formal to keep him on the team. Scott tried everything to get out of it, but nothing worked. He was banned. Stiles offered to keep an eye on her, but Scott said he was going to find a way in regardless. Then the bad news got worse when Kinley got a call from Kate.
Kinley was on her way to school Thursday morning when her phone buzzed. "Hello," she answered.
"Tell me something," Kate started with any sort of hello, "How did you not know the second beta was Scott McCall?" Kate asked.
"What?" Kinley responded and she became slightly flustered.
How did she know? When did she find out? Did she know for sure? Rapid questions fired in Kinley's head, but she shut them down. She needed to remain calm and keep herself together during this call.
"What makes you think it's him?" Kinley asked and recomposed herself.
"Derek just confirmed it." She replied. "Now this is what I don't understand. You've been palling around with him and his best friend for weeks. How could you not have figured this out? It just seems odd for someone who considers themselves such a good hunter to not know one of her new friends is a werewolf." Kate said, accusingly.
Kinley gulped and hoped Kate couldn't hear that over the phone. "I don't know. I just never suspected the guy that your niece was dating to be a werewolf. I thought you and Chris would have looked into that straight away. I guess I never considered him a suspect." Kinley responded. "So I never looked into him." She kept her voice even as she told this to Kate.
"Hmm." Kate replied and then paused for some time.
Kinley was beginning to freak out. If Kate didn't buy that she never knew about Scott, they were done. Kate would figure out everything and no one would be safe. Kate had to believe her. She hoped Kate's pride would get in the way. Kate trusted Kinley out of instinct, and if Kate discovered her instinct was wrong, she would not be a happy girl.
"I guess that seems reasonable, but I need you to do something for me then." She told Kinley. Here was Kinley's test of loyalty.
"What do you need me to do?" Kinley asked.
"I need you to watch him and help us get him away from the crowd on Friday at the dance. It's the perfect place. Everyone will be distracted and no one will know he's missing. Then we can use him to find the alpha. So go to the dance, pretend to have fun, and then lead him to us. Okay?" Kate asked. "Oh and also keep him away from Allison. I don't want the fact that we're using him to cause anything to happen to Allison." She added.
Kinley knew this was bad, very, very, very, bad. She now had to keep Scott safe from the werewolf hunters without the hunters thinking she was a traitor while also keeping everyone away from alpha werewolf trying to kill all of them. Also, she was going to have to do all of that in a dress and heels now. A dress and heels she didn't have yet. Kinley just hoped things didn't get worse. There were enough issues with their plans, they didn't need any more.
Kinley agreed to what Kate asked because she had no choice and hung up the phone. She breathed a heavy sigh, not realizing she was holding her breath during the phone call. She pulled into the school parking lot and saw Stiles waiting for her. She got out of her car and trudged unhappily over to Stiles.
"What's with you?" He asked.
"I need you to take me to the dance." Kinley huffed.
"What?" He said and grinned. "I thought you said you were going to sneak in with Scott."
Kinley sighed. "That was the plan until I got a call from Kate Argent." Kinley replied and explained the phone call to Stiles as they walked to their first period world history class. They sat down in their usual seats as she finished her story.
"Okay this is perfect. I will pick you up tomorrow at 8 and we'll go." Stiles told her leaning over to her desk.
"No!" Kinley stated. "I will meet you there. And there better be no corsage, or limo, or anything. I will be in a dress and you will be in a suit and that will be the only normal dance thing that will happen. Got it?"
Stiles threw his hands up in surrender. "Got it." He replied and turned to face the front of the room.
"I'm serious." She told him and stared him down to make her point.
"I know." He replied and didn't blink while he looked back at her.
"So no cheesy dance stuff." She re-stated.
"I said okay. Okay? I promise."
She squinted her eyes at him and did not believe a word he just said. However, she couldn't argue with him anymore since class starting.
At lunch that day, she overheard Lydia and Allison making plans to go dress shopping that night. Lydia had stopped inviting Kinley to their outings because Kinley's usual response was 'no.' However this time she needed a dress and asked if she could go. Stiles then asked if he could come and Lydia didn't even give him an answer.
That afternoon the girls went to the mall. Every once and awhile Kinley saw Scott out of the corner of her eye. Even though she was with Allison, he was still following her around. This boy had it bad, Kinley thought.
However, it was kind of a good thing that Scott was there since Lydia loaded Kinley up with so many options that she couldn't see in front of her. She wondered if this was a 24 hour Macy's as she carried the dresses in her hands. There was no way she could try all of these on and she didn't want to. Half of them were way too skimpy or too bright for her. Lydia ignored her whining and pulled her into a dressing room.
Kinley came out in a few, and Lydia just shook her head no and shooed Kinley back inside.
"You know it doesn't really matter which one, Lydia." Kinley told her as she tried on her 10th dress. "As long as one fits."
"I will not have one of my friends show up looking awful. We will find you one if it takes all night." Lydia yelled from her seat in front of the mirror. "Try on that green one I grabbed you. I think that will look the best."
Kinley pulled the green one out. Kinley had to admit, it was pretty. It was a warm forest green, with a sweetheart neckline, cap sleeves, and delicate beading down the front forming leaves down the dress. It was short but not too short. Kinley held it up to herself and guessed it would hit her about mid thigh. The skirt sort of flared out at the bottom but it still had movement to it. Kinley wondered if it was too cutesy for her. She rarely wore dresses and this one had all the girly aspects to it.
She put it on knowing that Lydia would make her eventually anyway, and if Lydia already liked this one, she had a chance that it would be the last one she would have to try on. She slipped it on and it fit like a glove. It was tight on the top and hugged every curve. It definitely showed off her hour glass figure. It also made her look taller since the waist was high and the skirt was on the shorter side. Kinley never thought she could make her legs look this long, but she was wrong in this dress. She walked out of the dressing room to Lydia.
"That's the one, we're done." Lydia stated and got up to grab all the other dresses in Kinley's dressing room. "Go change and meet Allison and I at the register."
Kinley did as she was told and walked back out to find Lydia but no Allison.
"Where's Allison?" Kinley asked.
"I got a text saying to meet her by the car. Apparently she left her lights on." Lydia answered.
"Oh.." Kinley replied and knew she missed something that had happened.
Each of the girls walked away with a nice dress. Allison got a short silver strapless dress with a scrunched flared skirt and Lydia got a pretty, strapless, light pink, almost white, dress with a black tie and a flower at the waist.
The day of the dance, Kinley was at home getting ready when her cousin arrived home from something and saw her sitting in front of the bathroom mirror applying her usual make-up. Kinley expected Penn to ignore her as she had been, but that wasn't at all what happened. Penn flipped out that she was going. Penn was so excited that she demanded that she do Kinley's makeup and hair for the night. Kinley tried to fight her on it, but it was no use. Penn primped and pulled at Kinley until she was satisfied. Kinley kept telling Penn to get ready herself, but Penn ignored her and continued. Penn could do this whole primping thing for herself in 10 minutes.
As Penn put her and Kinley together that night, Kinley found out that Penn was going to the dance with Greenberg, and they were going to dinner first. Kinley had never seen Penn so happy. Her voice was super bubbly and excited. She sounded like the girl she always wanted to be. Penn was going to her first dance with a guy she liked and had actually known for more than a day. Kinley wished Penn could live the rest of her life like this normal teenager she was getting to be tonight. Hopefully one day, Penn could live as normal people do.
Once Penn was happy with her work, she showed Kinley. She put Kinley's hair is a low messy bun with curls spilling out. She added a little sparkle barrette to make it look fancy. For Kinley's makeup, she didn't do a lot. She added some blush and more eyeliner. Instead of just have the top lid lined, she added a little swoop at the end, some more to the middle part of her eyes, and just a bit on the bottom for 'dramatic effect,' she was told. It made her eyes look large and very green. Kinley was really impressed. She had never looked this good.
Since Penn went to dinner before the dance, Kinley was left alone to add the finishing touches to her dance look. Her finishing touches were an ankle blade and a talisman protection charm bracelet she had. Kinley checked herself one last time before she walked out the door to meet Stiles.
However, she was not expecting to meet him that quickly. They were supposed to meet at school, but when she walked out the motel room door, and there he was in a suit that actually fit him with nice cuff links and all. He stood there smiling like an idiot with a wrist corsage in his hands. She had never seen anything cuter in her life. But that didn't keep her from being angry at him though.
"Stiles!" She yelled and stomped her foot, but Stiles didn't seem to notice that she had yelled at him. He was just staring at her with his jaw on the floor. "What?" She asked and looked down at herself. "It's too much. I knew it was too much. I told Penn and Lydia that-"
Stiles walked up and put his hand over her mouth. "You look beautiful." He said and then dropped his hand from her face.
"Really?" Kinley asked sheepishly and she looked down at herself one more time and tugged at the dress.
He responded by kissing her on the cheek and placing the corsage on her wrist.
"I told you not to get me one of these and not to be here." She reminded him.
"I know." Stiles replied and opened the car door to let her in.
Kinley hopped in his jeep. At least he only got the corsage and didn't do anything else crazy.
"I ignored you." He said and then shut the door leaving Kinley with just her jaw on the floor now.
Stiles walked over to the drivers side and got in the car. "I couldn't let you go to a dance without at leas some of the sappy dance stuff. I promised that I would give you the all high school cliches. You have to have the big moment at the dance. That is almost the biggest cliche of them all. So stop complaining and let's go. This is happening whether you like it or not." He said.
Kinley rolled her eyes, told him to go, and then punched him in the arm.
"Ow!"Stiles groaned as he pulled out of the motel parking lot.
Stiles and Kinley walked into the dance. Kinley could barely recognize the gym. There were sheer drapes hung from the ceiling in a circle and pulled out to make it look like a shimmering tent. Pink and purple lights were placed around the room and made the sheer curtains light up with color. There was a disco ball in the middle, shining small pieces of light everywhere. It almost looked like their were stars inside the gym. Kinley was amazed at how a few things could transform a space.
Stiles stuck out his elbow and she took it and they walked to a table.
"Do you see Scott or Allison anywhere?" Kinley asked Stiles when they reached the table. Stiles shook his head. Kinley scanned the room and found Scott on the bleachers above everyone. She guessed he could see Allison no matter where she was. She followed Scott's eye line and bingo, there was Allison and Jackson. They were dancing out on the floor.
"Let me guess, you found everyone?" Stiles asked.
"Yup. Now to just to keep an eye on all of them and hope Kate doesn't think I'm purposefully keeping Scott inside the dance. Should be easy enough right?" She replied.
"I think so." Stiles answered confidently and then gave her a mischievous smile. "So there's no reason why you won't accept my request for a dance." He extended his hand for her to take it.
Kinley waved her arms and walked away to the nearby table. "Nope, no dances. I'm here. I'm in a dress and heels. That's enough for me thanks." She told Stiles and sat down to further her no dancing policy.
He sat next to her. "You know, you never make anything easy."
"You know, I kind of pride myself on that." Kinley bantered back
Stiles did a little fake laugh at her. "You know, I'm not amused."
"You know, I am." She replied and smiled triumphantly.
Stiles looked her square in the eye and said, "Kinley, get off your cute little ass and dance with me." He then grabbed her wrist and pulled her up from her chair and into him. "You know what? That's it." was all he said and then pulled her onto the dance floor.
"Stiles!" She yelled, but he just kept dragging her.
He found an open spot on the dance floor, tugged on her arm, and spun her into him. Kinley fumbled over her feet and hit him a little hard when she spun into him. She knocked the air out of his lungs. He didn't seem to care though. He put his hand on her waist and moved his other hand from her wrist to her hand.
"Now is this so hard?" He asked as they swayed slowly to a fast song.
"I don't think this is how you're supposed to dance to this type of song." Kinley told him.
"I know, but this is my only move, so this is what we're doing." He replied and spun her back out and into him again. This time she was a little more graceful. At least, she didn't knock the wind out of him when she came back. They continued swaying and he spun her one last time, but instead of just bringing her back, he brought her in and then dipped her. She was laughing when he put her upright again.
"Nice moves." She teased him.
"I know." He said like he was unphased by the compliment and then popped his collar to show his confidence. She just laughed at him and rolled her eyes.
The fast song ended and a slow song began to play, a slow song that Kinley actually liked. It was "Touch" by Daughter. This time she pulled Stiles closer to dance. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he pulled her into him with arms around her waist. She lost herself in the song and put her head on Stiles chest. Kinley closed her eyes and let herself go. She allowed herself not to be hunter, or a girl with strange powers. She was just a girl with a boy at a high school dance. She felt Stiles squeeze her tightly and she wrapped her arms tighter around him. They swayed in content silence to the rest of the song. Every once and awhile Stiles would causally rub his thumb up and down her back as he held her. The movement relaxed her and made her melt more into him.
The song ended and she looked up at him. He smiled down at her and moved one of the small pieces of hair out of her face. She was as happy as she had ever been.
"I...I...I need to go." She told him and then ran off before he could say anything.
She needed some place quiet. Anywhere, where she could refocus her thoughts. She found herself in the chemistry hallway, the place where she stopped Scott and the only sound she could remember was the clattering of the metallic key as it hit the floor. She sank down along one of the lockers and sat there on the floor. There, she couldn't escape her own mind.
She had only been in Beacon Hills a few weeks and her entire life had turned upside down. The people, the creatures, they were all changing her and Kinley didn't know if it was for better or for worse. She thought about Stiles. The funny boy that had been there for her since the beginning, since before Kinley even realized it probably. Her life was too unfair for someone like him. He was so genuinely good and all Kinley would do is lead the world's worst evils straight to him. If there was one person who didn't deserve that, it was Stiles. He deserved so much more. He deserved a life free of demons and fear. He deserved to be happy and strong and to live a long life. And most of all he deserved more than Kinley and the horror she would cause him.
Tears began to brim in her eyes. She wiped them away. She couldn't do this now. When the alpha was stopped and the Argents weren't after Scott then she could worry about all the selfish decisions she had made lately. She got up, brushed herself off and headed back into the dance.
She found Scott and Allison and they were dancing close in the middle of the dance floor. She looked for Stiles but couldn't find him. She couldn't find Lydia either. Panic began to rise in her. Where were they? Stiles knew better than to disappear on a night like this, right?
She ran into the hallway where the entrance to the dance was. They weren't there either. She did however find Jackson. He looked pale and out of it.
"Jackson, have you seen Stiles or Lydia?" She asked and he didn't respond. He just stared past her like his mind was focus on something else entirely. "Jackson!" She yelled and he looked up at her. "Have you seen Stiles or Lydia?" She asked again. He shook his head. Now that she looked closer, Jackson looked scared. "What happened to you?" She asked.
"I...I..." He stammered not getting out any words. He just looked at the Lacrosse field.
Kinley ran back into the dance to get Scott before heading out to the field. Who knew what it was and they were all safer if they faced it together, but she couldn't find Scott now.
"I don't have time for this," she muttered angrily to herself.
She ran out to the lacrosse field on her own. "Stiles! Lydia!" She yelled and there was no response. She kept running and she saw something on the ground. There was something dark and wet around it. Blood, she realized. Kinley's heart was racing faster than she ever remembered it had. Who was laying there surrounded by blood? It couldn't be, it just coulnd't be. She began to slow down and approached it cautiously for fear of what she might find. With one final step, she saw who it was. It was not what she was fearing most, but it was not good either. Lydia was there, laying in a pool of her own blood, and she had a bit mark on her side. Something silver got her eye too. It was not Lydia's earring or anything a girl would have. It was a cuff link, Stiles' cuff link. If Lydia was here, almost dead, and Stiles had been here, where was he now?
