CH. 17

Skylar ran her fingers through Remy's long auburn hair as he lazily kissed her hip bone and up to the now pink scar from where she'd been stabbed in the side by Bella Donna. It had been close to two months since they'd returned from New Orleans and the mark from her wound had decided it was going to stay awhile so Remy made sure to show it extra love much to Sky's annoyance. She was grateful for the attention though and since the trip he had scarcely left her side unless absolutely necessary. Skylar still wasn't sure why Remy had even gone back home and she hadn't bothered to ask him though she thought about it often enough. Still she was content with life as it was now and was simply happy to have his undivided attention even if affected her work.
"I have to get ready for work soon and you have an X-men meeting to go too." Remy began kissing his way down her stomach and with a wicked glint in his eyes disappeared under the blanket. Sky tried locking her legs together to stop him, but one suggestive lick had her thighs parted and thrown over shoulders. "Remy we really don't have time for—," another lick and her protests dried up on her lips and she clutched his hair tighter, heels digging into his back to spur him on. The last thing Sky comprehended was Remy's smug chuckle before sensation took over.

"Have you proposed yet?" Remy had just gotten out of the meeting with the X-men when Kat pounced on him and pulled him aside. Remy hadn't told anyone his intentions, but Kat was a clever girl and once Remy had tucked Skylar in to sleep off her drug induced stupor she was already grilling him. He finally gave in and told her about his plans which delighted her, but every day he didn't ask her she grew more and more frantic.
"Remy's just waitin' for da perfect moment chat. I know dis is hard to believe but Remy don' wanna mess dis up." Kat let out a loud exhale and dragged her fingers down her face.
"Listen Gambit Sky's done the whole big white wedding thing and from what I've heard so have you so why bother doing it again? She's crazy about you and I know that you two are made for each other. I could tell the second we met you that this was going to happen that's why I helped you so much with her, you're welcome by the way, so don't stress over marrying her because trust me she's gonna say yes." Remy looked down at the petite woman who had helped him win the love of his life. Remy pulled her into a tight hug before kissing her cheek and setting her aside.
"Thanks chat, for everything. I guess I gotta go propose now." Later that evening Kat knocked on Skylar's bedroom door to congratulate her friend only to find her brushing out her much longer red hair.
"Hot date tonight?" Sky pinned her curls into a messy yet fashionable up-do and began to apply her makeup.
"Remy's taking me out tonight. He wants me to feel like a normal couple so he's decided we will have a nice date."
"You two haven't gone on a date?"
"We have but they've all been little day time ones like a quick lunch or a surprise trip to the botanical gardens. This will be our first dress up date. I don't really care about dates though I sleep beside him every night and I know that with him being an X-man and me trying to do research and teach it's hard to find time to go out together." Kat smiled as Skylar looked at a number of dresses she'd pulled out. Kat hadn't seen Sky so nervous looking about a date since…well she'd never been this worked up before.
"Don't wear the black one you want to come cheerful."
"But black is chic and classic besides it very slimming." Skylar looked at herself in the mirror and placed a self-conscious hand on her stomach. Kat made a dismissive sound in the back of her throat and threw the black cocktail dress back into the closet.
"The turquois is too bright for night time, in fact stay away from blues all together," more dresses were thrown into her closet and Kat wasn't even close to done. "The purple will clash with your hair."
"You didn't think so when I bought it."
"I like the green dress but it's a tad too long. You plan on eating tonight so I don't know why you even pulled out the white dress."
"I like the way it looks on me, you said it was perfect fit!"
"Yes but you eat like a boy and I don't want you to have a stain all night." The only dresses left were a garnet red dress that was simple and classic with sleek lines a square neckline and stopped a few inches above her knees, a gold spaghetti strap dress that was short and backless yet still elegant, and a strapless silver dress with an empire waist, the top was heavily beaded with mother of pearls and the bottom was chiffon that was shorter in front and longer in back. Kat was mulling of the choices when she suddenly looked over to see Sky toying with the plant that Remy had made for her. "Hey are you feeling ok?"
"Hm? Oh yeah I'm alright."
"You've been looking a little sick the past few weeks is the battle scar healing alright?"
"Yes I've been a bit sick but I'm better now so don't worry about it." Kat picked up the silver gown and handed it to her friend.
"That's the one I'll go grab so shoes to go with it." Before Kat could walk away Skylar grabbed her friends hand and squeezed it tight.
"Kitty Kat I love him. I love him so much and the more I think about it the more I become scared. Do you think that Remy's the one?" Kat smiled and kissed her friends worried brow.
"I know that you two are supposed to end up together. Sky he's not going to leave you like Mike did, he knows every flaw you have of which there are many—,"
"Hey!"
"—and he loves you all the more for them. You always told me that you didn't want a prince or a knight. 'is it so bad to want a King?' remember that? He's your king." Sky pulled Kat into a fond embrace and stood up to finish getting ready. Remy had gone all out to make this seem like a true date, he even went as far as "borrowing" Cyclopes' car to pick her up at the mansion. He waited for her in the sitting room talking with Logan, Charles, Beast, Kurt, and Kat all of which went silent when Skylar came down to leave. Remy jumped up and handed her a potted orchid plant while everyone smiled at them, Kat was even taking pictures.
"Kat it's not like we're going to the prom!"
"I know you just look so pretty," Kat sniffed back tears and Kurt put a loving arm around her. Remy took Skylar to a very posh Italian restaurant and while the waiter pored them wine and informed them of the chef's specials he watched her anxiously. Skylar swirled the wine around in the glass before taking a small sip and setting it back down.
"You look beautiful tonight Skyla'." Sky quickly grew embarrassed and tried to hide her blushing face.
"Thank you."
"It's strange to t'ink dat I've only known you a year."
"What?"
"You and Kat came to da institute one year ago today."
"Seems like I've been there an eternity I feel like I've known everyone there my whole life, known you my whole life." Remy smiled and his sunglasses lowered so she could see the love in his eyes.
"I feel da same Têtue. Dere's somet'in Remy been wantin' to tell you for a while now." Remy took Sky's hand and kissed it. Sky gently eased it away from him and his smile faded.
"I need to tell you something too."
"What is it Skyla'?" At that moment the waiter came for their order which was hastily given in order to dismiss him again. Sky wrung her hands nervously before finally sighing and meeting his eyes.
"I don't want you to feel pressured or in any way obligated to act on what I'm about to say. Shit, Remy I'm pregnant. I'm about three weeks along and I just found out this afternoon after you asked me out on this date and I have no idea where to go from here and now I can't seem to stop talking because I'm afraid of what you might say and holy shit my mouth won't turn off so please just say something." Remy sat in stunned silence for a moment then grabbed both of Sky's hands.
"Marry me."
"No Remy I don't want you to marry me just cause we made a mistake."
"We didn't make a mistake we made a baby and I was gonna propose to you with or without dis news so now it's jus' impossible for you to say no. Marry me." Remy pulled the ring out of his pocket and slipped it on her finger before she'd even given her answer.
"I haven't said yes."
"Didn't need to say it." Skylar smiled and leaned over to kiss him only half as passionately as she wanted to. That night on the drive back they debated on how best to tell their friends that they were having a baby…they decided not to.
