I do not own Teen Wolf. The wonderful Jeff Davis does.
This is the final chapter for Season 1. I will begin Season 2 next week. I will tell you Season 2 has a lot more of the Wesson Family and Argent Family backgrounds. We will learn much more about Kinley and her developing powers. It should be a good time!
This was all her fault. Stiles was missing because she had to go and have her own pity party. If she would have just stuck to the plan of not getting attached and keeping her guard up, she would have been there when he left for the field and she would have been able to stop it. Dammit, she thought, and kicked the ground. If anything happened to Stiles,...she...she... She couldn't even thing about it.
So instead of focusing on something she couldn't control, she focused on what she could. Kinley pulled out her phone and dialed 911. As she did this, she heard someone coming. She turned ready to fight, but it was Jackson. He didn't say anything, he just went to Lydia's side.
"I'm calling 911, you get her up to the school, and I will have ambulences there to meet you." Kinley told him.
He nodded and did exactly as he was told. Kinley spoke to the operator and then left the field. The moment she got back to the school, she saw ambulances pulling in. All the kids were gasping with horrified faces, and trying too see what was going on. Teachers were ushering them back inside away from the chaos.
Kinley was hoping to slip away from the ambulances and police cars by blending into the crowd, but she was unable to. A teacher pulled her aside when he saw the blood on her dress.
"What happened?" The teacher asked her as he pulled her arm and moved her away from the crowd.
"I don't know. I just found her but I need to-" She started.
The teacher however was not listening to her at all, but flagging down an officer to come and speak with her. She took this moment to look for anyway out of the chaos or for any clues to where Stiles might have gone. She noticed his jeep was no longer in the parking lot. He wouldn't just leave without telling her. Something was very very wrong.
The officer approached and waved a hand at Kinley to pay attention to him. She focused on him and he looked young and inexperienced. He kept looking around, taking in the scene with a look of wonder and caution. She did not have time for this. And where was Scott?
"You found her?" He asked her.
"I did, but I need to-" Kinley began again, trying to get out of there to Stiles who she hoped was ...she still couldn't even think it.
"Did you know the girl previously?" The officer cut her off.
"Yes, she's a friend of mine but-" Kinley said.
"Okay, why don't you take the ambulance with her then. She'll need someone there if she wakes up. Don't need her more scared than she already is. Then at the hospital we'll ask further questions away from the other students." The officer ordered.
"No, but I-" Kinley tried to explain, but the officer ushered her to the ambulance and forced inside.
Luckily, she saw Jackson and waved him over before the officer shut the ambulance door. Jackson was talking to another officer. He looked like he was stammering all his movements made him seem nervous. The minute he was done being questioned, he walked over.
"Meet me at the hospital. I won't be able to stay and she'll need someone." She told him.
He nodded but still didn't say anything to her. Closer up, she could tell he was still in complete shock. The boy looked like he was barely able to stand. Kinley wondered what happened to him earlier to spook him this much. She was also still wondering where Scott was. He couldn't have miss all of this commotion. Hopefully, he saw this and went after Stiles since Kinley was being delayed.
The medic slammed the door and Kinley heard the sirens. She turned her attention toward Lydia as they drove. Lydia still didn't look good. There was so much blood covering her dress and her face was extremely pale.
When they got to the hospital, they took Lydia one way and led Kinley to another. Mrs. McCall stopped by as they wheeled Lydia away.
"Don't worry, she'll be fine. I'll let you know when I hear anything." Mrs. McCall said quickly, and then followed Lydia down the hall.
Kinley sat and waited impatiently in the waiting room for any news while the officers berated her with questions that she was too agitated to want to answer. The police questioned her about how she found Lydia, why she left the dance, if she saw anything, and the other usual routine questions. Some even made it seem like she was a suspect, but Kinley barely paid attention to them since her thoughts were on Stiles and what could possibly be happening to him. If they thought she was a suspect, so what. The would eventually find out or, more likely, she would prove her own innocence with the fact she couldn't cause a bite like that to Lydia's side.
When it seemed like they asked their last question, Kinley got up to leave. They had no reason to holder her any longer, or so she thought. She had almost reached the hallway doors when she was stopped.
"You have to stay here." said the same young officer that made her ride in the ambulance.
"I can't." She replied angrily.
"The doctors will most likely have more questions for you. Your a witness to a crime and need to cooperate."
"I know and I have, but you don't understand, I can't be here right now. There is something I need-" She said and was again cut of for the umpteenth time tonight. It was taking all of her self control to not punch the deputy in the face and storm out.
"I think that being here for your friend is more important than being at your school dance, don't you? Sit down." The deputy ordered.
"I'm not going back to the dance." She replied exasperatedly. Why would anyone think she would go back to a stupid school dance when there were lives on the line.
"Then where?" The deputy asked condescendingly and looked at her skeptically.
She obviously couldn't say where, and she couldn't think of anywhere that was more important than being here to answer questions. At least nowhere that a police officer would buy. She gritted her teeth and glared at the duty and then slumped back down in the chair and angrily waited for an escape plan to come to mind. The deputy gave her a smug smile and walked away to guard one of the hallways. She wanted to knock the smug look off his face. This guy was preventing her from helping Stiles. She would probably never like this man in her life.
The only thing that was keeping her from going completely crazy and just causing a scene and leaving the hospital was Scott. If we wasn't here, he had to be looking for Stiles. It's the only thing that made sense. At least someone was out there and he wasn't being forgotten. She really hoped that assumption was right because her gut was telling her otherwise.
It was about twenty minutes later when she was allowed passed to see Lydia, well sort of see her. Only family was allowed inside the room, but there was a window, and she could keep an eye on her from there. Lydia was laying on the hospital bed and her eyes were closed. There were tubes sticking out of her and monitors beeping. She just looked like she was asleep. She no longer had blood covering her body and her hair was lying flat without any knots or mud clumping it together. However, Kinley knew she wasn't sleeping. She was still fighting. She had been bitten. She could be changing or dying. It was just a matter of time. From the look of her though, it didn't seem like she was changing. The wound would be healing by now and waking up.
Jackson ran through just after Kinley was allowed to see Lydia. He headed straight for Lydia's bed, but Sheriff Stilinski, who seemed to appear out of nowhere, stopped him before he could get to her. The Sheriff grabbed Jackson and pinned him to the wall.
"Hey, hey," The Sheriff shouted to get Jackson's full attention. "What the hell happened to that girl?" He demanded and pointed at Lydia.
"I don't know. I went out looking for her..." Jackson stammered.
"What, you just happened to wander into the middle of that field and you just found her there like that?" The Sheriff asked. Jackson hesitated before he answered and the Sheriff added "Don't lie to me, son," during the pause.
Jackson started to try and explain, but Kinley cut him off this time. "He didn't find her, I did." Kinley said and the Sheriff let one hand off of Jackson and turned to look at her.
"What?" He asked.
"I found her. Didn't your idiot deputies inform you? They asked me enough times. And I also found this." She held up Stiles' cuff link and the Sheriff recognized it instantly.
Sheriff Stilinski completely let go of Jackson and stared at the cuff link. He went pale and turned away from all of them. "Somebody better find my son." He yelled and then walked away with his officers.
"Thanks," Jackson muttered and then went back to watching Lydia.
Kinley kept trying to leave, but there were officers at every door and no one was letting her go. She was going to lose her mind. She kept calling Stiles and getting no answer. It went straight to voicemail every time. The more time passed, the more worried she became and the more frustrated she got that she couldn't do anything. She even considered calling Penn to help, but she wasn't sure what good that would do. About a half an hour after the Sheriff's outburst, Allison walked in. She looked like a ghost, like she wasn't all there. Kinley jumped out of her chair and went up to her.
"Allison." She said. "Why aren't you at the-" Kinley started, but Allison turned to look at Kinley and her expression was ice cold.
"Did you know?" Allison asked and Kinley stared at her blankly. Kinley knew a lot of things but none of them were what Allison was talking about. "Did you know about Scott?" Kinley nodded yes. "Why didn't you tell me?" Allison demanded. Tears were forming in her eyes.
"Because it shouldn't matter, Allison. He's still Scott. He just has a bit of a...hairy issue." Kinley joked, but Allison was not laughing. "Please, Allison, there's more to this world than you know yet. It's not as black and white as some make it seem. Just realize that and think about what Scott has been to you. Trust me, you can't fake that. Trust him." She told Allison.
Allison ignored her and walked past. "I came here to check on Lydia. My parents are making me leave town, and I just wanted to see how she was." Allison walked up to the window and slightly flinched. She was only able to look at Lydia for a moment before running out.
"I'll let you know how she is." Kinley yelled after her, but she wasn't sure Allison heard her.
Kinley slumped back into her waiting room chair. She was beginning to resent the chair because it was another thing in the room she was never allowed to leave. She had answered all the officers and doctors questions. She had been cooperative. They needed to let her go, but they were watching her like a hawk. She stared at the ceiling trying to figure a way out when she heard the elevator ding. She looked, knowing it would just be another nurse or person she didn't know, but that wasn't the case. A panting Stiles ran out.
She got up and launched herself onto him. She hugged him as tightly as she could. He collapsed a little into her and moved his thumbs up and down her back. She didn't want to let go, but she had to. She pulled back and looked at him. He seemed relatively unharmed. He had a cut on his lip but that was it.
"What happened?" She asked frantically and still kept looking him up and down like she didn't believe he was alive and in front of her.
"Peter. He had me find Scott through his phone." Stiles replied and sounded exhausted.
"Peter? The alpha, Peter?" Kinley questioned. " How, where..." She started but was having trouble finishing thoughts.
"It's okay, it's okay." He told her and put his hands on her shoulders and ran his hands down her arms. She took a deep breath and felt a little better. "I'm fine, but how's-" Stiles started to asked and then his dad pulled him away.
The sheriff grabbed Stiles by the shoulders. "You know what? It's good that we're in a hospital, because I'm gonna kill you!" Sheriff Stilinski told him.
"I'm...I'm sorry. I lost the keys to my jeep. I had to run all the way here." Stiles tried to explain. He was still a little out of breath.
"I don't care!" The Sheriff yelled and he also seemed to not care if anyone heard him.
"Is she gonna be okay?' Stiles asked and tried to look past his dad to see Lydia.
The Sheriff turned to look at Lydia and relaxed. He knew it wasn't his son's fault, but Kinley could tell his dad was losing leads and grasping at whatever he could.
"They don't know." The Sheriff answered. "Partially because they don't know what happened." He looked at Kinley when he said this. She had n't really given him anything to go on. What she told him was all the truth, but she left out a lot, all the werewolf possibilities. "She lost a lot of blood, but there's something else going on with her." The Sheriff continued.
"What do you mean?" Stiles asked.
"The doctors say it's like she's having an allergic reaction. Her body keeps going into shock." Stiles had no response. "Did you see anything? I mean do you have any idea who or what attacked her?" The Sheriff asked.
Kinley could see Stiles struggling with wanting to tell his dad the truth. He hesitated a while before he said, "No, no, I have no idea." The Sheriff nodded.
"What about Scott?" The Sheriff continued.
"What do you mean? What about him?" Stiles asked.
"Did he see anything?" replied the Sheriff.
"What? Is he not here?" Stiles replied and began looking around the room frantically.
"What are you talking about? I've been calling him on his cell phone. I've gotten no response." The Sheriff answered.
Stiles looked at Kinley for some type of explanation, but she didn't have one. She thought Scott was out with Stiles or at least looking for him since he wasn't here. Panic took over Stiles face. Both Kinley and Stiles knew that the Sheriff was not going to be hearing from Scott any time soon.
The Sheriff went to leave, but Stiles and Kinley followed him out. "Guys, go wait with your friends. I'll let you know when I know something." the Sheriff told them. He was probably hoping they would leave but this got Kinley past the other officers. There was no way she was going back.
"Look, you know it has something to do with Derek." Stiles told his dad as he walked down the hallway away from the ICU. Kinley followed behind them.
"What?" His dad asked and had to stop to confront his son. "I thought you said that you guys barely knew him."
Stiles dropped his arms in a defeated manner. "Alright, we might know him a little better than that." Stiles confessed.
The Sheriff grabbed both of them by the back of their necks and dragged them down the hallway. "You do realize I'm elected to this job, right?" The Sheriff asked.
"And, if we help you figure this out, you'll be re-elected." Kinley said. The Sheriff looked at her like he was not amused, and Stiles gave her a warning look not to mess with his dad when he was this mad. Of course, Stiles ignored his own advice.
"She's right, isn't she? Dad c'mon." Stiles told him.
Sheriff Stilinski sighed and let them both go and stopped walking. "You know what? That girl in there..." He gestured to where they had been with Lydia. "...has got nothing to do with a six year old arson case." The Sheriff tried to continue down the hall but Stiles stopped him.
"Wait, when did you decide it was definitely arson?" Stiles asked urgently.
"When we got a key witness." Stiles was about to ask who when his dad cut him off. "And no, I'm not telling you who it is but, yeah, yeah, we know it's arson. And it was probably organized by a young woman" The Sheriff answered and began to walk away from them again.
The image of Kate flared in her mind. Kate had worked cases here before. The Hales always suspected one of the Argents' to be behind it, and now that Kinley had gotten to know Kate, she knew Kate was capable of this, but she didn't have any proof.
"She would have young then, right? Not now?" Kinley asked this time with the same urgency Stiles did before.
"She's probably in her late 20s." Stiles dad said and then his phone rang.
"You don't know her name?" Kinley pressed.
"No, I don't and Stiles what is with your friend and her twenty questions?" The Sheriff answered. "All we know is that she had a very distinctive, uh, what do you call it, uh, a pendant."
Kinley had her evidence. It was Kate. Kate gave her old pendant to Allison. The alpha was going after Kate, and Kate had Derek, and Scott was going after Derek. This was very bad.
"Huh" was all Kinley said to the sheriff and then ran down a hallway that she hoped would lead her to an exit. She had to find Scott.
"A pendant? What's a pendant?" He shouted out to her and then ran to catch up.
They somehow were back in ICU near Lydia.
"It's a necklace." She told Stiles when she stopped walking to reassess how to get out of this blasted place.
The same look Kinley just had crossed Stiles' face. He knew exactly who the alpha was after. He then also began looking for an exit. Kinley saw a sign posted indicating parking. That was her best bet. The two began to follow the signs when they heard someone shouting for them.
Jackson had spotted them. "Hey, hey!" He shouted but they kept walking. "Where are you guys going?"
"To find Scott." Stiles told him when Jackson caught up.
"Neither of you have a car." He stated and looked at the two of them like they were idiots.
Stiles and Kinley each looked at each other. "I thought you had a..." Kinley said
"I thought you..." Stiles replied.
They stopped and turned to look Jackson."Okay, I'll drive." Jackson told them.
"No," Stiles said angrily. "I'll drive. Just because you feel guilty all of sudden doesn't make this okay. Half of this is still your fault. So I'm driving. You brought the Porsche?"
"Yeah," Jackson replied and held up his keys.
"Good." Stiles took the keys out of Jackson's hands. Jackson surprisingly didn't argue. They turned down the final corridor toward the exit and then saw the Argents blocking their path.
"Boys, and uh Miss, I was wondering if you could tell me where Scott McCall is." Asked Mr. Argent. His cold blues eyes staring directly at them. All them backed up about an inch.
"Scott McCall, uh haven't seen him since the dance." Kinley answered and looked at both boys for confirmation. Stiles nodded.
"Yeah not since the dance." Stiles replied.
"And you Jackson?" Chris Argent asked and took a slight, intimidating step forward.
"I...uh...I...uh..." He stammered.
"For the love of god!" Stiles muttered and put his hand to his forehead.
Mr. Argent and three of his friends threw the three teenagers into a nearby exam room. They landed on the exam table face first. Mr. Argent slammed and locked the door behind them. They turned to face him as pushed the last bolt in place to secure the door.
"Let's try this again." Mr. Argent sternly told them. "Where is Scott McCall?"
All three remained silent. So, Chris grabbed Kinley and shoved her against the wall. Her head hit the door, but it wasn't too painful, more jarring than anything. Stiles yelled and went to get her, but one of the Argents grabbed him and pulled him back. Kinley could see Stiles struggling to get free, but it was no use. Stiles was trapped with the other Argent.
"Let her go!" Stiles yelled. The Argent holding him covered Stiles' mouth. Kinley could hear angry muttering coming from Stiles.
Mr. Argent laughed at Stiles' feeble attempt and turned his attention to Kinley whom he still had pinned to the wall. "I really thought you would make better friends, Kinley. Kate trusted you, but I guess trusting a Wesson is never a good idea." His voice was cold and full of accusations that Kinley wasn't sure she deserved. She had deceived them, but his dislike for her was more than what she had done in the past few weeks.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked through her teeth.
Mr. Argent ignored her. "Let me ask you a question, have you ever had a dog who was rabid Ms. Wesson?" She shook her head refusing to answer his inane question. "Have you ever watched something you love turn evil in front of your eyes? Turn so far that you have no choice but to kill it and then stand there and watch while it dies?"
"No, but I might be a little more selective with my friends and pets." She spat back.
"Did Scott ever try and kill you on the full moon? Were you ever forced to stop him?" He yelled. This time he waited until she answered. After a minute she gave in and told him. What did it really matter if he knew Scott wasn't always in control. He basically already knew anyway.
"Yeah, I did, but I got through to him. I gave him control." she answered. Mr. Argent shook his head. "Why? Would you have preferred I locked him in a basement and set the whole house on fire?" Kinley asked him. This time, it was her voice full of accusations.
Mr. Argent chuckled "I hate to dispel a popular rumor, Kinley, but we never did that."
"That's right. We hunters have a code, don't we? We don't do things like that. No one's ever broken it before, right?" She replied.
"Never." Mr. Argent said, but his resolve was weakening. He dropped one of his hands holding her to the wall.
"What if someone did?" Kinley asked and let some of her anger out of her voice. She needed him to listen, and he wouldn't if her tone was too defensive or aggressive.
"Someone like who?" He asked her. She could tell he actually wanted the real answer.
"Someone like Kate." She told him.
He dropped his other arm and let her move away from the wall. Chris nodded to the Argent holding Stiles to let him go. The moment Stiles was released, he grabbed Kinley and pulled her to him.
"You Wessons always taking the high road. Some things never change. It won't last. Where is Kate now?" He asked her.
"I don't know. I was leaving to try and find Scott, just like you." She replied.
"I think I know." Stiles piped up.
Stiles explained what Peter had him do when he was missing. Peter took and forced Stiles to turn on Scott's GPS in his phone. A phone which Derek was in possession of. Stiles helped Peter discover that Derek was at his own house. Well, not exactly as his house but under it.
All of them then set off for the Hale House. But before they left the hospital, Jackson had an idea. He remembered how Lydia made the firebombs that night in the school. So the three teenagers made a pit stop at one of the hospital labs while the Argents went ahead. Jackson snuck in and made a few firebombs and they quickly left, hoping no one saw them.
Stiles drove like a maniac to the Hale house the moment they left the hospital parking lot. They arrived and had obviously missed some action. Chris Argent was knocked out on the ground. Allison was over him, trying to wake him up. Kinley didn't see Scott or Derek anywhere.
Jackson, Stiles and Kinley all quickly scrambled out of the car. Allison indicated that everyone was inside the Hale house.
"Wait here." Kinley told Stiles and Jackson and then she grabbed the fire bombs out of the car and handed each of them one. "If you see anything throw it. Don't hesitate."
Stiles grabbed her shoulder as she turned to go in the house, but she gave him a look to make him understand that she had to be the one to go in. Stiles nodded and reluctantly let her go. As she headed into the house, she gave one last glance to Stiles. He was in a 'ready to throw' position.
She ran up the steps into the house. She turned to face the living room and saw Peter holding Kate Argent by the neck. Peter looked Kinley up and down as she entered the room. She left plenty of space between the two of them.
"She is magnificent, Kate. I can see why you were drawn to her power. She is stronger than you, you know?" Peter spoke as if Kinley couldn't hear him talking about her.
"Let her go, Peter." Kinley said with warning. Her nerves were on end, and she began to feel the humming in her veins like all the other times her powers started. It was still faint though.
"Okay, Kinley Anne Wesson." Peter stated and made sure to state her name perfectly and clearly. "I'll give her a chance to live, if you do something for me."
Kinley stared him down. "And what would that be?" She questioned defensively.
"I want to see those pretty green eyes of yours." He said and dug his claws further into Kate's neck.
Kinley focused on the humming and intensified her anger to stare daggers at him. Green light brimmed the edges of her vision.
"Isn't that beautiful and you have no idea, do you? The potential you have. It's boundless. I could tell you, you know. I could fill you in on all the little secrets of your past. Join me and we can be unstoppable." He told her.
"I would rather know nothing than join you!" She seethed.
He tightened his claws so much around Kate's throat that blood was beginning to trickle down her neck. She squeaked with pain.
"Na ah ah. I still hold the strings here, little girl. I wouldn't play games with me. I mean, really, all I want is an apology. Maybe I would let her go if she just apologized. Kate, can you do that? Can you tell me you're sorry."
His voice was so fake that it made Kinley want to vomit. But if an apology would work, Kinley wanted Kate to do it. No one else needed to die. She was so sick of everyone dying.
Kinley almost took a take step forward, but she held her ground. Kate refused to speak. Kinley looked at her pleadingly. This might be a stupid request, and they all knew Peter was doing just because he was a horrible person, but he had the power at the moment.
Of course, Kinley also understood Peter's vendetta. What Kate did to him and his family was unforgivable, but she would pay for it like everyone else when they turned her over to the police. Kinley was not going to just let her get away with her wrong doings. But more death was not going to help anyone, especially Peter.
Kinley gave Kate one last pleading look and Kate gave in. "I'm sorry," Kate croaked.
Peter stood there as Kate breathed heavier and began to shake. He seemed to be contemplating what to do next. However, it didn't take long for him to make a decision. He clamped his claws deeper into Kate's neck and gave it a swift turn. Kate collapsed, dead on the floor. Her cold dead eyes just stared blankly at Kinley.
"No!" Kinley gasped and wanted to look away, but she needed to stop Peter from getting out. So, she held his gaze.
"I don't know about you, Kinley, but that apology didn't sound very sincere."
Peter began to walk toward her. She backed away knowing she was not ready to use any power and the last time she fought him didn't end well for her. She also wasn't even sure what would happen when she did use her power. The humming was becoming more intense and she could feel it coursing through her.
Kinley then heard a thud next to her and then another on her other side. She saw Scott and Derek fully transformed on each side her. They both lunged for Peter at the same time, but Peter blocked each by throwing them to the opposite side of the room. Derek attacked again. He got in one hit before Peter hit him to the floor and then kicked him in the stomach hard and caused him to roll across the furniture and onto the ground behind it.
Kinley ran over to help him up. "What are you doing in here!? Go!" Derek yelled at her before joining the fray again.
They seemed to be trying to make sure Peter didn't change into his full werewolf form. Every time he tried, Scott of Derek landed a hit keeping him human. Kinley could see Peter getting more enraged. The boys were getting more beat up. They couldn't keep this up for long. They needed more firepower . The only idea that Kinley could come up with was to get Peter out the door to Stiles and Jackson and have him be damaged enough for the firebombs to have an effect on him.
Kinley ran past Derek and ducked under Scott as he jumped at Peter, so she could get herself to the other side of the room. Now, she was facing the front of the house. If her power blew him backwards, he would crash into the front yard. She focused on her energy and the humming that was still growing. The vibrations had never held this long before. They had also never felt this intense either. If she could just hold onto it long enough to make Peter launch out the front window in front of Stiles and Jackson.
She watched Derek and Scott get knocked down again. They were both moving slower and were becoming less coordinated. She needed to act fast. Derek and Scott both took another crack at Peter, and he even more easily threw them aside. This time neither was getting up. Peter turned to her and his wolf form was beginning to take shape. She closed her eyes and tried to release all over her pent up fears and aggression toward him.
A bright green light flooded the room. The light was so bright it temporarily blinded Kinley. All Kinley could hear was a loud crash followed by a few screams. Then she felt debris shoot back. Small pieces of wood and glass hit her. She crouched down and covered her head. Then everything all of sudden got quiet. Kinley stood up and saw that the whole front living room wall was missing and Peter was lying on the ground outside, not moving.
She walked and pieces of the house fell in front of her as she continued through it. Scott and Derek fell in step behind her. They all walked out into the front yard. Stiles and Jackson were still standing there, ready with the firebombs poised in their hands. Derek, Scott, and Kinley squared off with Peter's body. Kinley at the front and Derek and Scott at her flanks. No one knew if he was alive.
Kinley then saw Peter begin to move. His movements were jerking and clumsy. But he was forcing himself to his feet.
"You don't have to do this Peter. We can end this now. No one else has to die." She told him.
"Yes, we can end this little girl" Peter replied and lunged for her.
Kinley was prepared to push him back. Power was still alive in her veins, just nothing nearly as powerful as what she just did. However, Kinley didn't need it. Fire erupted on Peter's arm. Kinley looked back at Stiles, and saw he was no longer holding a beaker. Peter stumbled back trying to put the fire out on his arm. Jackson followed quickly after Stiles' example and threw his. Peter was completely engulfed in flames and his body was flailing, trying to put it out. He became weaker and weaker until he stumbled to the ground and collapsed onto his back.
Everyone watched, and no one moved except Derek who left her side and walked up to the charred human that Peter became and stared down at him. As Derek passed Kinley, she saw the look in his eyes. She knew what he was going to do. She ran to catch up with him.
Derek stood over Peter whose eyes were still open and full of pain. He was shaking and looked worse than in newspaper pictures from the first fire. Derek knelt down next to him to finish the job.
"Wait!" Kinley yelled at Derek. "We don't need any more deaths! We can do something else, just don't kill him."
Derek looked at her but then turned back to Peter. Kinley walked up and put her hand on Derek's shoulder to try and move him away from his uncle. She knew he wanted revenge, but he didn't need to get it this way. None of them did.
"You've...already...decided." Peter breathed out through the pain. His eyes began to roll back in his head, but he forced them to look at Derek. "I can smell it on you!" He shouted with as much strength as he could muster. His eyes glowed red, and it was Derek's last straw.
Derek shrugged Kinley's hand off his shoulder and then brought his clawed hand to Peter's throat. With one quick slash, he cut across his neck. Peter was dead.
Everyone let out an audible gasp. Kinley backed away from Derek.
Derek turned around slowly to face everyone. "I'm the alpha now." He said and his eyes glowed red instead of their usual blue.
Stiles came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders and led her further away from Derek. All of her body relaxed and the humming in her veins subsided. She breathed and then darkness took her.
