I own nothing from Trinity Blood
"Father Watteau has been spotted outside the city," Sister Kate spoke as she appeared before Caterina in her office.
"About time," Caterina sighed relieved. "Maybe we will finally find some answers about the girl. "Where is she now?"
"Working with Father Havel down in the training room. Father Nightroad and Father Garcia are down there as well helping out."
"Good, have Father Watteau meet us down there when he arrive," Caterina replied as she got to her feet and headed towards the door. "It has been several weeks since she has arrived. I am curious about her techniques as to fighting with a lame leg."
"Very well," Sister Kate nodded before vanishing.
It didn't take long to arrive at the training area and Caterina was surprised at what she saw. Kaiya was wearing a pair of sweats and a t-shirt and was fighting Vaclav with a long sword in each hand. All of her weight was on her right leg while her lame leg had both sheaths strapped to it keeping her leg straight as well as work like a brace so she could use that leg some. Caterina was surprised at how mobile she was for being at a disadvantage.
"Lady Caterina," Vaclav finally noticed her and stopped the training. "Forgive me for not noticing your arrival..."
"I noticed when she arrived five minutes ago," Kaiya snorted as Leon tossed her a water bottle after she sheathed her blades. "I am slightly curious as to what her eminence is doing down here at this time of day."
"The other agent who found you has returned so you could thank him," Caterina spoke calmly.
"So you're trapping me into meeting this person while training so I don't disappear?" Kaiya snorted as she removed the sheaths from her leg and sat down in the center of the room. She used her arms to straighten her left leg out before she started to stretch.
"On the contrary, I was curious of how your training was progressing. Father Watteau just happened to be seen arriving outside the city when I was ready to come observe your training."
"So coincidence. So milady, what are your thoughts as you scrutinize my training?" Kaiya asked calmly.
"You surprise me with how well you adjust considering your disadvantage."
"It was Vaclav's idea. It has seemed to work so far so the professor is making a brace for my entire leg that way I can place the sheaths where it will be convenient if I get attacked."
"I see," Caterina nodded before there was a knock on the door to the training room before Hugue Watteau entered. "Father Watteau, welcome back. Your sudden disappearance will be discussed later."
"Yes, milady," the long blond haired swordsman bowed slightly before he looked around and his eyes locked on to Kaiya and she didn't move as she stared at him.
The entire room seemed to go silent as the two studied each other, barely blinking. Caterina watched Hugue's reaction while everyone kept glancing back and forth between the two. After several minutes of silence, Kaiya finally moved and pulled her lame leg under her so she could sit on her knees before she slowly got to her feet and strapped her blades back to her lame leg.
"Thank you sir for finding me with Father Nightroad," Kaiya spoke bowing slightly before she looked around. "What's your guy's deal? You really need to stare at me like I'm someone's prey? Whatever, I am going to go clean up and find some food."
"Kaiya..."
"I'm covered in sweat, whatever it is, it can wait Vaclav," Kaiya snorted before limping past Hugue without a second glance but his head turned to watch her leave, his eyes slightly wide.
"Kaiya...?" He spoke quietly, his voice full of astonishment.
"Is she familiar to you Father Watteau?" Vaclav spoke up as he closed the door so he couldn't disappear again. "You are the only one who has had any reaction to seeing her and we cannot find anything in any records on her."
"She looks familiar but I cannot be certain. What has she said about herself?"
"She remembers nothing before being a prisoner within a volcano the past eight years. Her captors kept torturing her for her to reveal a location of a brother she does not know if she has."
"Is this the one you have been searching for since you before you joined the AX?"
"Whether or not it is or isn't, it is none of your business," Hugue spoke coldly before making Vaclav move and disappeared down the hall.
"He really does hate people butting in on his personal matters," Leon snorted and everyone nodded before going to do their own things.
Kaiya slowly limped towards Professor's office since there had been a note on her door saying that he was finished with her leg brace. After training earlier, her leg was complaining quite a bit about being used so much and not having any support now since she left her blades in her room. Seeing a bench, she sat down weakly and groaned as her leg started its muscle spasms.
"Are you okay?"
Not recognizing the voice, she looked up and saw the man she had met back in the training room. She noticed frustration in his eyes although his face seemed emotionless. Kaiya sighed as she tried to relax her hands that had been gripping her leg.
"I've been better. It has only been about a week training so my body is not used to it," Kaiya smiled as he sat next to her. "Why did everyone act so weird when you had come in the room?"
"That would be my fault. When Father Nightroad and I found you outside the city, my reaction was not quite normal considering my personality..."
"Explaining things doesn't seem like something you do either," Kaiya smiled and he nodded, not even glancing at her. "Why a strange reaction to finding me?"
"Your appearance... It reminds me of someone a lost a long time ago. My guess is they were waiting to see if you would react to meeting me. They wonder about your background."
"So am I," Kaiya sighed. "I have no memories before being captured besides knowing when my left leg first stopped working when I was two."
"Do you know what happened?"
"I vaguely remember falling but that's it. I see images sometimes but they're blurred. The first vivid memory I have was when I first woke up locked up on a small patch of dirt inside a volcano. There was no way for me to escape across the metal catwalks especially when they only had me in a light dress and no shoes."
"That would explain all the burns we found on your wrists and ankles..."
"Who was it that I had reminded you of?" Kaiya asked suddenly.
"Where were you headed to?" he spoke as he got to his feet, changing the subject.
"To see the professor."
"Would you like some assistance?"
"That would be nice. Vaclav was harsh today with training so there's a bit of pain."
"Why duo long blades?" Hugue asked as he helped her onto his back.
"You ask a lot of questions," Kaiya giggled and only received a small glare as he glanced at her. "It was like they were calling out to me. I don't really understand why, but as soon as I pulled them off the wall, they felt right in my hands. Vaclav said you were a sword user too..."
"Hugue de Watteau, codename Sword Dancer and excellent with a blade," Professor Wordsworth came around the corner with a tray of food. "Welcome back... You two look as if you could pass as family. How odd..."
"Professor, did you finish it?"
"Ah, yes, it's in my office. Hugue, you might as well come along as well. I heard that in your last report you got injured, I'll need to look at that."
"Very well," Hugue spoke but Kaiya heard annoyance in his voice as he followed William with her on his back.
"If you're injured, why are you carrying me?" Kaiya frowned.
"It is nothing for you to worry about."
"Because I remind you of someone you lost? Or because you feel pity because I can't walk normally?"
"Neither. We just happen to be heading to the same location."
"You never answered my question earlier."
"Neither do I plan to."
"Talk about pain-in-the-ass," Kaiya huffed quietly as they entered William's office and he dropped her roughly onto the couch. "Really? You had to just drop me with no warning?"
"Are you positive you're not related to each other?" William chuckled and Hugue did not respond as he removed his coat and shirt, revealing blood soaked bandages across his torso and arms that did nothing to hide the numerous scars across his torso. "What did you end up fighting this time?"
"A werewolf."
"How can you say that those wounds are nothing to worry about?" Kaiya whispered as William removed the bandages to reveal the deep gashes that bled. "Why? Why do men have to be such idiots and act all high and mighty all the time?"
"Kaiya…" William frowned as the young teenager lowered her head so her hair could hide her face. "I don't understand… Why hurt yourself more for someone like me when you have such severe wounds…?"
"Because I had two sisters I lost many years ago. One of which you remind me of." His voice was quiet as William worked on cleaning his wounds and put fresh bandages on. "Her name was Kai and she was forced to a wheelchair because she had fallen out of a tree."
"Wha…?" Kaiya lifted her head slightly and saw Hugue watching her over his shoulder.
"She was a twin and younger of my two sisters and was always reckless, even after she could no longer walk."
"What happened to her?" Kaiya whispered unable to look away from his piercing gaze.
"Methuselah attacked our home and both sisters disappeared while I was severely injured and the rest of my family murdered."
"You think the twin sisters were kidnapped?"
"Yes."
"Why tell me this story? You honestly think I am that similar to this Kai you mentioned?"
"Why do you hate Methuselah Kaiya?" William asked as he finished bandaging Hugue's torso.
"Whoever had locked me up worked directly for those blood-suckers. After eight years of hearing that a vampire was the one who ordered your capture, you kind of start hating them. Can I just get my brace so I can go? I have things to do."
"Why push away if there was the chance to be able to remember?"
"If it was that traumatizing that I forgot, I don't want to remember," Kaiya spoke as William came over with a leg brace and helped put it on and laced it up from ankle to upper thigh. Then she got up and left before William could infuriate her more with his delusional theories that the reason she was imprisoned was because of Hugue.
"Why are you running away?" his voice was full of disapproval as he caught up to her easily, his long blond hair swaying back and forth.
"Really? I am trying to get some breathing room and you keep barging in as if there wasn't a care in the world," Kaiya snapped. "I was locked up and tortured for eight years because my captors wanted the location of a brother they thought I had. So by some chance this was all not just theories, and it turns out we were somehow related, it would have been your fault in the first place I forgot everything and was kidnapped. I don't know you, so stop mistaking me for your sister who is probably dead being the mid-day snack for some blood-sucker out there when you first lost her!"
"If we were related, I would have willing shouldered all that blame," his arms came around her and pulled her to him in a tight embrace. "I would have fought with everything I had to make sure that my sister was safe. I had lost both arms back then so I was unconscious for a long time trying to recover so by the time a doctor had found me and gave me artificial limbs all trails to try to find my missing sisters were gone. Please try to remember your past so the emptiness of not being able to remember does not tear you apart."
"It has never torn me a part. Besides that, if I had been related to you, don't you think I would be able to recognize who you were when you first entered the room?" Kaiya spoke as she pushed him away and started walking off. "Stop deluding yourself and move on. Both of your sisters are most likely dead anyhow."
