Disclaimer: I do not own Teen Wolf or any of its characters. Those are all the Jeff Davis', the evil genius who toys with us every week.
Also, I know in the last chapter we got a bit more background on Chris. I did a kinda one shot story about that whole affair and I am willing to share if people are interested. It would take a couple weeks to put up but if anyone wants me too, I can. Thanks! Enjoy!
Previously on The Green-Eyed Girl: The gang has lost Jackson, Kinley has learned a lot more than she ever thought, and Lydia has even begun helping out. Now, Kinley is returning Stiles' call, hoping there might be some better news since her news for Stiles is not any bit good.
"Sorry, Lydia. I have to make a call. We'll talk soon." She said to Lydia and then walked out of her room and headed outside. She dialed Stiles number.
"Hey," He answered. "We found Jackson." He told her.
"What? Where? I thought you were going to see your dad." She replied.
"That's where we found him. He was covered in a blanket and blaming us for his disappearance. His dad, the lawyer, even showed up."
Oh this was bad, this was very bad, Kinley thought and she didn't have any good news to add either.
"So why did you call?" Stiles asked. "Truthfully, I wasn't expecting to hear from you at all tonight." He sounded a little bitter about it.
Kinley was slightly thrown by Stiles straight forward accusation but wasn't going to pay attention to it. "Well, it's important." Kinley stated and said it probably a little too harshly. She tried to get a better tone for the rest of the conversation. Just because she was upset with him, didn't give her the right to act this way when things needed to get done. "Whoever Allison asked about the translation got it wrong. The kanima doesn't seek a friend, it seeks a master. Someone is controlling Jackson." She informed him.
"Hold on. I'm getting Scott and putting you on speaker phone. And she got the translation from Ms. Morrell, our french teacher. Guess she's not as good with languages as we thought." Stiles said.
"Guess not." Kinley replied, but Stiles probably didn't hear her. Kinley just heard some rustling and Stiles explaining to Scott what Kinley had just told him.
"Okay, Kin were both here." Stiles said into the speaker phone.
"Do you think that Jackson knows who's controlling him?" Scott asked.
"If Jackson doesn't know what he's doing, then he probably doesn't know if someone's controlling him." Kinley responded.
"Or he doesn't remember." Scott added.
"What if it's the same kind of thing that happened with Lydia when she took off from the hospital?" Stiles suggested.
"A fugue state." Kinley replied.
"Then he'd have to forget everything; the murder, getting rid of the blood…" Scott trailed off.
"But he had help with one thing." Stiles reminded them. "The video. Someone else helped him forget that. "
"Whoever's controlling him. " Scott realized and said to Stiles. "Are we sure Jackson has no clue about any of this?" Scott asked.
"He still thinks he's becoming a werewolf and that being with Lydia somehow delayed the whole thing." Stiles told them.
"So do we try to convince him he's not?" Scott asked.
"If it helps us find out who's controlling him, then yeah." Kinley replied. "Do you think he'll talk to any of us after what we did?" Kinley asked.
"Yeah, it's us. He'll talk to us, right?" Stiles replied and sound fairly confident in his answer even though his answer was still phrased as a question.
"I hope you're right." Kinley said.
"Stiles, Scott!" Kinley heard a voice yell over the speaker that was neither Scott nor Stiles. Then suddenly she heard shuffling and Stiles saying something about not taking his phone and then the phone went dead. Kinley was pretty sure the voice was that of Stiles' father, the sheriff, and that Scott and Stiles were in more trouble than they thought.
There was no way those boys were getting back on the phone tonight. So, Kinley walked back inside and Lydia was sitting on the couch in the living room waiting for her. Lydia looked slightly scared but also determined.
"Is anyone going to tell me what's going on?" Lydia asked and sounded like she was pleading to get some straight answers.
Kinley wanted to tell the poor girl. The guy she was in love with just tried to kill her not too long ago and she had no idea why.
"It's a….a…." Kinley stammered, not really sure what to say. She tried to think of something that Lydia would be the least amount interested in. "Scott, Stiles and I hunt creatures in a very intense online gaming community." Kinley lied.
"Oh." Lydia replied. "That's it? This is some type of game?"
"That's it." She told Lydia. "Do you think you can still help us?" She asked. "With more translations." Kinley clarified.
Lydia thought for a moment and Kinley waited apprehensively. Without Lydia, they were a little screwed. "Why not? I'm super bored anyway." Lydia replied and then started up to Kinley's bedroom.
Kinley thanked God that Lydia believed her. She also wondered if maybe Lydia just wanted to believe the lie because she knew the truth was probably much worse. Either way, they were finally getting somewhere.
The two girls spent the rest of the night in Kinley's bedroom going over the texts together. Lydia couldn't translate everything, but she got a lot of it done. Lydia was still thoroughly confused about why an online game was so intricate and why they needed to know archaic Latin in order to play. However, Lydia continued shrugging off her questions and kept translating.
The two girls ended up falling asleep on Kinley's bed covered in papers and books.
An alarm sounded and both of the girls shot up and looked around the room confused.
"How far did we get?" Kinley asked groggily.
"Almost finished." Lydia replied half asleep. "I think I can give you the rest by Chemistry. I have a study hall first period and not much work to do." Lydia replied and began to shove papers off herself in order to get off Kinley's bed. "I'll put them on my ipad and you can borrow it for the day." She added..
"That's amazing. Thanks Lydia. This really means a lot."
Lydia waved off Kinely's thanks and then left Kinley's room to get ready for school.
Kinley got up and checked her phone. Hopefully no disasters ensued while she was asleep. She saw she had a text from Stiles. "Meet me early at school. We might have a problem. Nothing threatening. Don't freak." was all it said. She groaned and rolled her eyes at the message. Stiles actions from yesterday were still making her angry. She was trying to let it go, but was not having much luck. However, her feelings didn't matter right now. If he needed to see her, she had to go.
Kinley replied "On my way," to his text, and then quickly got ready for school. She shouted goodbye to Lydia as she left.
As she pulled up to school, she saw Stiles sitting on the front steps of the school with his head in his hands.
She walked up to him. "Hey." She said and he looked up. "You wanted me here early. So...What do you want?" She asked curtly and crossed her arms defensively.
"Okay, what is with you?" Stiles asked and stood up to face her.
"What do you mean?" Kinley tried to reply confidently, but she couldn't look him in the eye.
"You've been acting cold since we left the forest preserve yesterday." Stiles told her. "You've barely been responding to me and if you have, it's been short. What's going on?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." She said and took a step back and stared at her shoes. She had such a hard time lying to him for some reason.
"C'mon, Kin, I'm not an idiot. I know what this is about." He said.
Kinley eyes went wide. Did he know her secret? Did he follow her to Deaton's one day. Had he seen her use her powers and she didn't notice? She tried to calm herself down. "Know what?" She replied tried to look him in the eye to make the lie more convincing. She still kinda looked more to the side of him than directly at him.
"This is about the other night when we were on patrol, isn't it? You're freaked out over the kiss." He told her.
Kinley's mind did a complete 180. This was the last thing she thought he would bring up.
"Well, tough." He added.
"'Tough?'" She repeated back, having no idea why he just said that.
"Yeah, tough. It happened, Kin, and whether you like it or not, I'm in this with you. We all are. I know you like doing things on your own and that you feel that everything is your responsibility. And frankly, it's rubbing off on Scott, and it's getting really annoying. So, you might not want me here, but too bad, I am, and I'm staying here. I don't care if don't want me here for whatever crazy, over-protective reasons you've come up with. You can push me away all you want, but I won't let you go through this alone." He was a little out of breath by the end of his mini speech.
Kinley had no idea what to say. This was not at all what she was expecting. "Stiles...I…." She started and then had nothing. She sat down on the steps, exhausted from her own thoughts, and Stiles sat next to her.
"Don't say anything, okay. Just promise me you'll quit shutting me out and actually talk to me when you freak out. Please." Stiles asked.
"Okay, I promise. I'm sorry." She told him.
"No, you're not. 'Sorry' means you'll never do it again, and I know you, and even though you promised, you'll do it again, but at least next time, feel more guilty about it." He replied and actually laughed at her.
She punched him in the arm, and they were almost back to their old selves.
"So was that all you wanted to talk to me about?" She asked.
"Oh uh, no. We sort of hit a little hiccup in the talk to/convince Jackson plan. He kinda got a restraining order put on me and Scott. We have to be 50 feet away from him at all times." Stiles told her.
"Stiles, seriously!?" She asked and pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. She felt a stress headache coming on.
"Hey, if you were there, you would have gotten one too. And there's more..." He said. Kinley just waited for the next piece of bad news and said nothing. "Scott's grounded, no car, no me, nothing."
"What? Why?" She asked.
"His mom was slightly pissed about the kidnapping of a minor and having a restraining order put against him thing." He replied.
"Yeah that makes sense. I'm surprised either of your parents actually let you live." She told him. "Is there anything else?" She asked.
"No that's it. I think." He answered.
"Good. We don't need anything else.' She replied and looped her arm through his and put her head on his shoulder. He leaned his head on hers. They stayed there for a moment, each loving the the calm that they knew would only last a short time.
"So are we gonna talk about what happened in the woods...or…" Stiles asked hesitantly.
She slipped her arm from under his and placed one hand on the side of his face. "No." She replied and then kissed him. She pulled away and then resumed her previous position with arm looped through his and her hand on his shoulder.
"I...that was not… what?" He questioned.
"My freak out wasn't about the kiss, Stiles. That was the one thing that went right this week." She admitted.
"Oh good." He replied with a goofy smile and seemed very pleased with himself. Kinley tried no to laugh at him. Of course, he then quickly realized that he had no idea why her attitude took such a turn. "Then what was it about?" He asked.
Kinley let out a sigh since she really didn't want to talk about it but she knew Stiles would make her say something. "Everything else." She answered. "Yesterday was weird and bad, and how you wanted to just kill Jackson- That infuriated me-" She confessed and Stiles cut her off before she could babble more.
"You're mad about that? I thought that's what you do?" He asked her.
"It's not and I don't know... When you say things like that it reminds me of the Argents' crazy if you're a creature, you die and if you're human you live, and ugh, I just hate that." She said and got a little more worked up than she wanted to.
"Look, I don't want to kill Jackson because he's a kanima. I've wanted to kill him since the third grade when he made me eat dirt in front of everyone on the playground. I don't actually want him dead. I mean I want him dead in a way all teenagers want the popular jock guy dead." Stiles replied.
"Oh." Kinley said and felt pretty idiotic.
"Did you really think that's what I wanted?" He asked.
Kinley looked away embarrassed for even thinking Stiles was like that. "I don't know. I don't think so, but my world has been turned upside here, and the more I stay here, the more I learn, the weirder and weirder everything gets. I just - I don't know what to believe anymore." She replied.
"Well, you'll always have me." He said and pulled her close to his side and moved his hand up and down her side. "It might not be something to believe in but it's someone to count on." He said. They sat for another moment before they got back to business. "Oh speaking of counting on someone, how's Lydia doing with the translations?" Stiles asked.
"She said she would have them done for me by our Chem. class. I still can't believe that girl knows how to read and understand archaic Latin." Kinley replied
"I learned a long time ago never to underestimate Lydia Martin. That girl is way more than people think she is." Stiles said.
"I'm starting to get that." Kinley said and looked down at her watch. "We better get to history. Class is gonna start soon." She told him.
They stood up and he grabbed her hand and they walked to class together.
Scott showed up in history, and they discussed the best time for Kinley to get them the translations. They decided to get them in the library in the back of the stacks. Gerard had installed cameras around the school, and it was their best bet to transfer information and not be seen, especially if they wanted to include Allison. Scott and Allison could not be seen together at all at this point. The Argent family was getting more suspicious, and the last thing they needed was for Argents to do something drastic to keep their daughter away from Scott. Also, Kinley wasn't exactly supposed to be hanging around Allison either. There was no explicit threat from the family, but Kinley knew it was best.
Lydia handed over the translations to Kinley in chemistry class as they started today's experiment. Lydia was still thoroughly confused about the whole thing, but didn't question things too much. Instead she wanted to gossip about Stiles.
"So," Lydia started the moment after she handed Kinley the translations. "You and Stiles?" She asked.
"Yup, me and Stiles. What about it?" Kinley replied.
"I heard you two were holding hands on the way to first period today." Lydia told her.
"How did you hear about that? It literally just happened?" Kinley asked and was annoyed that Lydia had already 'heard' about it. Why did people care what she was doing?
"Please people have been waiting for this for months." Lydia replied and lit the Bunsen burner.
"Well those people need to get a life." Kinley replied as she placed the beaker on top of the lit Bunsen burner. They waited for the water to boil.
"But you two are official now?" She asked.
Kinley felt like she was being interrogated. "I don't know. We are Kinley and Stiles and that's it." Kinley answered the absurd question.
"You two are totally official. Finally!" Lydia said and sounded way too excited.
"Can this conversation be over now?" Kinley asked. "Let's talk about something, anything else. How are you?" She asked.
"I'm fine but what's going on with Scott and Allison?" Lydia asked.
Kinley groaned. This was going to be a long chemistry class. Kinley indulged Lydia with all of her gossip and somewhat vapid questions during the class. It was the least she could do for all the help Lydia had been. Kinley just couldn't believe that a girl this smart would want to talk about all couples at school and who was still on and who was off. What did it matter, Kinley thought. But this was Lydia, a sorority girl with a brain for MIT. She was unique.
The class ended and Kinley headed to the library for her free period. She walked in and saw Allison standing, looking absent-mindedly at books in one aisle, and she heard Stiles voice say something from the next aisle over. Kinley walked over and handed Allison the ipad. Allison then slipped the ipad through the shelves to Scott and Stiles on the other side. Scott grabbed it and began looking it over.
"It's everything Lydia could translate and trust me, she was very confused." Kinley whispered to the group.
"Yeah, what did you tell her?" Scott asked.
"That we were a part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures." Kinley confessed.
"I am part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures." Stiles replied.
Kinley and Allison looked at each other and just shook their heads. Of course Stiles was a part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures. Kinley was not surprised.
"Oh... great..." Allison said in response to Stiles comment, and tried to sound enthusiastic about Stiles' hobby. No one really knew what to say to Stiles after that.
"Okay, does it say how to figure out who's controlling him?" Scott asked.
"Not really." Kinley replied. "But Stiles is right about the murderers.
"Yes!" Stiles almost shouted but then caught himself and whispered. "Yes," and fist pumped the air in triumph. They all ignored him.
"It calls the kanima a weapon vengeance." Kinley explained. "There's a story in there about this south American Priest who used the kanima to execute murderers in his village."
"Alright, see? So maybe it's not all bad." Stiles said optimistically.
"Until the bond grew strong enough that it killed whoever he wanted it to." Kinley explained further.
"All bad, all very, very bad." Stiles replied immediately.
"Here's the thing though. The kanima's actually supposed to be a werewolf but it can't be-"
Scott cut her off and read the passage she was about to quote "'-until it resolves that in it past which manifested it.'"
"Okay, if that means that Jackson could use a few thousand hours of therapy, I could have told you that myself." Stiles said.
"What if…" Allison began. "What if it has something to do with his parents? His real parents."
Kinley nodded in agreement. That made sense.
"Yeah, does anybody actually know what happened to them?" Scott asked.
"Lydia might." Stiles suggested.
"What if she doesn't know anything?" Scott asked.
"Well, he doesn't have a restraining order against either of us," Allison said. "So we can go talk to him."
"Yeah, maybe we can still get through to him, make him realize what's going on so he can fight it." Kinley added.
"Okay, what do we do?" Scott asked.
"You have a make-up exam, remember?" Allison reminded Scott. Stiles nodded that she was right.
"If he does anything, run the other way." Scott told Allison.
"Yeah, same for you Kin." Stiles added quickly after Scott, and Kinley just glared at him.
"We can take care of ourselves." Allison said before Kinley could. Kinley knew she liked this girl.
"Allison if you get hurt while I'm busy with some stupid test, someone's going to need to take care of me." Scott told her.
"I'll be there, Scott." Kinley reminded him.
"I know, but if he does anything…." Scott trailed off.
"Like?" Allison persisted.
"Like...weird or bizarre-anything..." Scott said
"...Anything evil." Stiles added with a bit of dramatic flare to it, and stuck his head into the shelves to get closer to the two girls. Kinley rolled her eyes and grabbed his face and pushed it back to the other aisle. She heard him say "ow," and then heard some pages of a book flap around like he almost dropped it. It made her laugh.
"We'll be careful." Kinley promised and then pulled Allison out of the library to go and find Jackson.
Stiles appeared behind them as they walked out. "Yes?" Kinley asked him.
"I'm coming with you." He stated like this was obviously the plan.
"No you're not." Kinley told him. "Someone needs to go and talk to Lydia and see what she knows. Normally, it would be one of us, but neither of you two bozos can go near Jackson. So now you or Scott has to do it, and since Scott has a makeup exam, that lucky person is you." Kinley told him and poked him in the chest.
"But Jackson...and, and imminent death." He stammered.
"We'll be fine. Scott has to deal and so do you. Now go." Kinley said.
Stiles looked like he was trying to think of an argument and came up short. He huffed and said, "fine." He shuffled down the hallway, not looking pleased. Kinley and Allison laughed.
"I think he's gotten more protective since you two have become a couple." Allison told her.
"Who told you we were a couple?" Kinley asked.
"The whole school knows. They saw holding hands before first period." Allison told her.
"Seriously? Am the only one who doesn't think that is news?" She asked.
Allison shrugged. "Probably."
Kinley rolled her eyes. She would never understand kids her age, she thought. She dragged Allison down the hallway and they headed toward the boys locker room. Allison was pretty sure Jackson was in gym the previous period and then he usually stayed to work-out during his free period. As they walked there, Allison took off her high heels. Kinley gave her a strange look.
"We can't exactly sneak up on him if my heels click the whole way there." Allison explained.
Kinley nodded and understood. The hallway to the boys locker room looked empty. The girls approached it, and right as Allison reached for the door, it opened, and they jumped back. It was Matt, the photographer boy. He had opened the door. Both girls caught their breath as he looked at them strangely.
"Nice heels." He said to Allison as he looked at the shoes in her hand.
Allison looked down and realized how it was strange for her to have her shoes off in school. She looked back up at Matt. "Oh! Yeah, uh, my feet were hurting so I…" She told him and then began to put her shoes back on.
"That's why I never wear mine." He joked.
"What?" Allison replied. She was too nervous for jokes apparently. Kinley laughed like one was supposed to in this situation.
"Uh forget it." Matt told her.
"So did you guys hear about the underground show?" Matt asked. "Apparently, they've got some big name spinning." Matt informed them.
"Oh like a rave?" Allison asked.
"Oh, is it still a rave if don't roll? I just call it a party. But hey, I got a friend who can us up with tickets if either of you are down? Want me to get you guys one?" He asked.
At the same time, Kinley said "no," and Allison said, "yes." The girls looked at each other and then back at Matt.
"You sure, Kin?" Matt asked.
"Yeah and don't call me Kin." She replied.
"Oh, I hear Stiles call you it all the time. Sorry, thought it was a nickname." He said. "But Allison, you want to go?" He asked again.
"Uh yeah, that would be great." Allison replied. Kinley could tell she was still nervous talking to him and not sure of exactly what to do.
"Yeah? Alright, cool. It's Friday and so...looking forward to it." Matt said as he walked down the hall. "Let me know if you change your mind, Kinley." He added and made sure to over exaggerate pronouncing her full name.
Allison began to breath a little easier now. Kinley pushed the girl towards the boys locker room door. They heard something like someone was coughing and quickly went into the room. But once they were in the locker room, the sound stopped. It seemed like no one was there, but they heard a shower running.
"Jackson?" Allison asked and looked around the locker room.
"In here." They heard him reply.
The two girls walked toward the voice. As they rounded a corner, they noticed they walked right into the boys showers and there was Jackson, completely naked. The girls cringed with embarrassment and turned around quickly.
"Is something wrong?" Jackson asked.
"You could have warned us." Allison told him.
"You're the ones who walked into the boys' locker room." Jackson replied and they heard the shower turn off.
"I thought I heard you-I th-forget it." Allison said.
Jackson rounded the corner back into the main part of the locker room where Allison and Kinley were. He was thankfully wearing a towel around his waist. "Did you want to talk about something?" He asked.
Kinley started noticing the way he was moving and speaking. It was all too fluid and thought out. It was like every step was made for a specific purpose. It was eerie to watch and made the hair on the back of her neck prickle.
"We can talk later." Kinley chimed in since she didn't like the way he was behaving. She grabbed Allison's wrist and began to pull her out of the locker room.
"No." Jackson said harshly and slammed his hand into the wall in front of Kinley preventing her and Allison from moving forward. "Let's talk now."
Allison was shaking slightly next to her. Kinley wasn't sure if she was scared or if this was an act for Jackson. Kinley knew what training she would have gone through. She most likely has had some hand to hand combat skills already.
"We have to get to class." Kinley told him and tried to keep any fear out of her voice.
"Oh, no, no, you don't. Allison has perfect grades. She can skip one class, and then when have you cared about school, Kinley?" He asked. He still hadn't moved his hand. "Is she okay?" Jackson asked Kinley about Allison. "Her heart's beating like crazy."
Kinley ignored his arm and moved forward. He dropped his hand and stayed in front of them trying to keep them in the locker room. Kinley tried to move to the side, but he just moved as well.
"I thought you wanted to talk?" He asked Allison.
"I-I-I changed my mind." Allison said and her voice was still shaking. The girls turned trying to get in front of him be he moved again and remained in front. Now they were parallel with the lockers and their backs were to their exit.
"You sure?" Jackson asked. "Because you look a little stressed. Is it Scott? Is it that whole thing? I still can't believe you think your little Romeo and Juliet story is gonna last." He kept trying to walk closer to them, but they kept moving backward away from him. Soon though they would hit wall and have no where to go. "You know eventually he's gonna run to Derek and join up with his little wolf pack. If you don't realize that, then you gotta be the stupidest bitch in this town. Well, other than Scott since he's a pretty stupid bitch himself."
"Stop just stop!" Kinley yelled and tried to step in between Jackson and Allison.
"Got a problem, new girl?" Jackson asked and got very close to her face.
"Hey, leave her alone." Allison told him as angrily as possible and moved herself next to Kinley.
"What are you gonna do, Allison?" Jackson yelled. "Hmm...When your stupid bitch of a boyfriend turns on you."
The girls slammed back into the door and Jackson was right on top of them. He shoved Kinley to the ground and she hit it hard. The side of her head smacked the cement floor and the room began to spin. She saw Jackson slam his fists onto each side of Allison's head and pin her to the wall.
Jackson then began to shout, "They kill your aunt. They almost kill Lydia. Who do you really think's gonna be next? Hmm…" He relaxed his muscles a bit but kept his hands on either side of Allison's head. His tone changed from anger to mocking. "Not you. No, it can't be you, because you're in love. Is that what you tell yourself? Hmm? 'That Scott is different and everything's gonna work out because we're in love.' Well if that's what you believe then you're already dead!" He shouted the last sentence.
Kinley sat up and tried to stand, but the room spun around her. Jackson then pulled one hand away from the wall and revealed his claws.
"I hope your dad has been teaching you moves to protect yourself" Jackson said.
As Kinley stood up she notice that Allison looked more calm.
"Actually he has" Allison said with no quiver in her voice this time. She grabbed Jackson's arm and then his neck and forced him to the ground. It was a perfect take down. Kinley wanted to clap. However, Jackson was still stronger and flipped her over the moment his back hit the ground. Allison was now underneath Jackson.
The room finally stopped spinning and Kinley went to grab Jackson's neck. But as she did, Jackson flailed and fell off Allison.
"Allison? Kinley?" He questioned as he sat on the floor of the locker room in just a towel. He looked from one to the other and looked like he had no idea what just happened. "What happened?" He asked and sounded terrified. "What are you doing here?" He asked angrily.
Allison scurried away to the wall of the locker room. She was pale with fear. Kinley stood over Jackson and wasn't sure what to do. Suddenly, the door burst open and Scott was standing there. He looked at the terrified Allison on the floor and then Jackson. There was fury in Scott's eyes.
"I-I fine. I'm fine." Allison tried to tell Scott, but he was blind with anger and didn't even hear her. He saw Jackson putting on his shorts and ran at him. Allison yelled at him. "Scott, I'm fine! Scott!"
But it was was no use. Scott grabbed Jackson and threw him against the lockers. Jackson slammed into the first row of lockers and they fell from the the impact and hit the second row almost knocking those over as well.
"I have a restraining order!" Jackson roared at Scott.
"Trust me, I restrained myself." Scott replied and glared at Jackson.
Then an epic fight broke out. Jackson threw Scott against one of the caged lockers across from him. Scott hit it and as he fell, Jackson grabbed Scott by the sweatshirt, swung him around and threw him into the showers. Scott tumbled on to the shower floor. He scrambled to his feet but not fast enough. Jackson grabbed him again and slammed him into one of the shower walls. As Scott hit the wall, he regained leverage by grabbing Jackson's head and hitting it into the wall behind him. With Jackson in a daze, Scott grabbed Jackson's shoulders and threw him sideways into the another shower wall. Jackson hit it with a thud and fell to the floor. Scott went to grab his neck on the floor, but Jackson put his feet up and kicked Scott off him and into the shower wall behind them. Scott hit the wall and large cracks emerged behind him. Jackson walked out of the shower and toward the girls. Kinley was ready to fight, but before she could do anything, Scott came over the wall separating the showers from the rest of the room and kicked Jackson in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the floor and slide back. Jackson then turned, grabbed a large bench press weight and through it at Scott. Scott luckily caught it, but as he lowered the weight to the ground, Jackson kicked it and caused Scott to go backwards into the towel dispenser. Jackson then grabbed Scott and smashed him into the sink next to the towel dispenser, which caused the sink to break off the wall and water to spray everywhere.
At this point, Kinley knew she was no help and just grabbed Allison and pulled her into the hallway. As they emerged, Kinley saw Stiles and Erica standing there. Kinley looked at them, but they were looking at the floor which was pooling with water. Stiles pointed to the door and gave Kinley an inquisitive look.
"Um…" Kinley began but didn't have to say anything because the door to the boys locker room suddenly burst open and Jackson and Scott came tumbling out. Scott was on his back and Jackson was on top of him. Stiles and Kinley went to grab Scott and Erica got Jackson. The three of them together pulled the two boys apart. Allison tried to help and her bag slid off her arm and across the floor.
Just as the two boys were calming down, Mr. Harris walked by and saw all the ruckus.
"What the hell is going on!?" He shouted. "What do you think you idiots are doing? Jackson! Calm down!" Mr. Harris turned to Scott. "Mr. McCall, you wanna explain yourself?" He asked Scott. "Stilinski? Wesson?" He asked.
All of them were silent since no one had any idea how to explain this.
"You drop this?" Said someone from behind Mr. Harris. It was Matt and he was holding the ipad. It must have fallen out of Allison's purse when it skidded across the floor. Mr. Harris took the ipad forcefully from Matt and then returned to the group.
"You and you-" Mr. Harris said and point to Scott and Stiles. "Actually all of you." He changed his mind. "Detention 3 o'clock." And with that, Mr. Harris left the group of mostly soaking wet people in the hallway.
The rest of the day Kinley spent in semi-wet tank top and jeans. Stiles let her borrow an extra sweatshirt from his locker so she at least wouldn't be cold. The rest of the day passed quickly. Stiles informed her that Erica now knew Jackson was the kanima because she overheard him talking to Lydia. However, Erica also said that she might know what happened to jackson's parents. All Stiles got out of her was that they were dead. She wasn't willing to give many details to him at the time. They agreed that since they were stuck in detention with her later that they could try again.
At 3 o'clock, they trudged their way to the library for Mr. Harris' detention. Scott, Stiles, Kinley and Erica all sat at the same table. Matt, Allison, and Jackson were at the other.
"Oh uh.. We can't be in detention together." Jackson said as snobbishly as possible. "I have a restraining order against these tools."
"All these tools?" Mr. Harris asked gesturing to everyone in detention.
"No just us tools." Stiles said and pointed to himself and Scott.
"Fine." Mr. Harris replied. "You two, over there." Mr. Harris pointed to just the next table over.
Scott and Stiles packed up their things and moved to the next table. Kinley was then left alone with Erica.
"So you and Stiles?" Erica asked.
"Nope!" Kinley replied sharply. "Not doing this again." She said and moved herself over to Scott and Stiles' table. Mr. Harris looked up at her, but didn't seem to care about her change of seat.
"I'm gonna kill him." Scott said angrily as he stared back at Jackson who also looked unhappy.
"No, you're not." Stiles told him and looked at Kinley. "You're going to find out who's controlling him and then you're going to help save him." Kinley smiled at Stiles for saying this. It was incredibly cute that he actually listened to her this morning. Scott looked at the both of them and rolled his eyes. At least now Scott knew how they felt when he was like this with Allison.
"No. You were right, let's kill him" Scott said urgently like he wanted to get out of his seat right then and pummel Jackson into the ground.
Stiles sighed. "Ohh..No…"
Scott stared angrily at Jackson for the next minute. Stiles rolled his eyes, but then looked over at Matt like he was trying to figure him out.
"Hey what if it's Matt?" Stiles asked and Scott turned to focus on Stiles again. Scott looked a little shocked about the accusation. "I mean the whole thing comes back to the video right?"
"Danny said that Matt was the one who found the two hours of footage missing." Scott stated and put his hand on top of his arms on the table.
"Exactly! He's trying to throw suspicion off himself." Stiles replied like he just uncovered a bond villain's plot.
All three of them looked at the Matt who was popping mini cookies into his mouth. As much as Kinley didn't like Matt and he sort of weirded her out, he didn't seem all that dangerous.
"So he makes Jackson kill Isaac's dad, one of the Argent hunters, and the mechanic working on your jeep?" Scott asked.
"He's got a point. Why would he do that?" Kinley added.
"Because…" Stiles started and tried to think of a reason. "He's evil." Stiles said and leaned into the table and tried make it sound more ominous, but really it just sounded goofier.
"You just don't like him." Scott suggested.
"The guy bugs me." Stiles confessed and glared at Matt who was still just eating mini cookies and offering some to Jackson. Sharing didn't seem like something an evil mastermind would do.
"I don't know what it is. Just look at his face." Stiles added.
The three then stared at Matt who again seemed annoying but not dangerous, and creepy but not homicidal creepy.
"Any other theories?" Kinley asked.
Stiles leaned back in his chair and shook his head. "Yeah, I got nothin'"
As they pondered Matt, Jackson began to cough. Kinley glanced over and saw him rubbing his forehead. He looked a little queasy and sweaty. The three of them looked at each other at the table with fear of what might happen next. Jackson abruptly exited the room and Mr. Harris followed him to make sure he was okay. They were told to stay in their seats, but the moment the door shut behind Mr. Harris, Stiles, Scott, and Kinley jumped up to talk to Erica about Jackson's parents. Stiles was next to Erica, Scott was across from her and Kinley took the leftover seat across from Stiles.
Scott started the interrogation the moment he sat down without even a hello. "Stiles says you know how Jackson's parent's died." He told Erica.
"Maybe." She replied and didn't look up at them. She just kept writing in her notebook.
"Talk." Scott told her.
Erica looked up at him and seemed a little more than slightly irritated. She shut her notebook and put her pen on the desk. She stared across the table at Scott and said, "It was a car accident. My dad was the insurance investigator, and every time he sees Jackson drive by in his Porsche, he makes some comment about the huge settlement he'll be getting when he's 18."
"So not only is Jackson rich now, but he's getting even richer at 18?" Stiles asked.
"Yep." Erica replied succinctly.
"There's something so deeply wrong with that." Stiles replied.
"You know what? I could try to find insurance report on my dad's inbox. He keeps everything." Erica offered nicely and super out of character.
As she opened her laptop to begin looking for the information, a voice came over the P.A. "Scott McCall, please report to the principal's office."
A jolt of fear went through all of them as they contemplated why Gerard wanted to see Scott. No matter what reason, it would not be a good one.
Scott got up from his chair and looked at the Kinley and Stiles. Neither one knew what to do. He had to go. Scott just took a deep breath and Kinley and Stiles each gave him an encouraging smile. He then left the library for the office. Kinley wanted to go with but there were more pressing matters here. She turned back to Erica and the laptop.
Stiles took Scott's seat to see the laptop closer as Erica searched. It took a little while to go through the contents of the inbox but eventually they started finding things.
"Don't forget the dates." Kinley told Erica as they pulled up more documents from the crash.
Kinley then heard the door open and she looked up hoping to see Scott but Jackson and Mr. Harris reappeared.
"'Passengers arrived DOA. The estimated time of death-9:26pm, June 14th, 1995.'" Erica read out loud to the two of them and brought Kinley back to the task at hand.
"Jackson's birthday is June 15th." Stiles pointed out.
As they were contemplating that horrific news and what it meant for Jackson, Mr. Harris began gathering his things to leave. Well, at least they could discuss this elsewhere since their detention was over, Kinley thought. She and the rest of the students began packing their bags to leave with Mr. Harris. As they did so, Mr. Harris just laughed.
"Oh no, I'm sorry. Uh yes, I'm leaving but none of you are." He told all of them and their faces dropped. "You may go when you're done with the re-shelving." He told them and then padded a very large stack of books on a cart. And that was not the only stack in the room. It was one of the many large stacks on one of the many carts in the room. Re-shelving these would take hours.
Mr. Harris left with a huge smile on his face and all the students groaned. The moment Mr. Harris left, thankfully, Scott returned from the Principal's office. However, he looked horrified. Kinley made a mental note to ask about what happened later or ask Stiles about it. Scott would tell Stiles eventually.
The rest of the students shuffled over to the large stacks and stacks of books and began re-shelving. Stiles grabbed one cart and wheeled it into one of the middle aisles of the library. Kinley, Scott and Allison all followed Stiles. As they shelved, Kinley and Stiles filled in the other two on what they learned from Erica.
"It means he was born after his mom died-by C-Section. They had to pull him out of her dead body." Stiles explained.
"So was it an accident or not?" Allison asked.
"The word all over the report was 'inconclusive.'" Kinley told her.
"Then his parents could have been murdered?" Scott asked and sounded just as shocked as they all felt.
"If they were, then it falls in line with the kanima myth. You know. It seeks out and kills murderers." Kinley replied to Scott.
"But for Jackson or whoever's controlling him?" Allison asked.
All four of them looked at one another, hoping someone would have an answer but none of them did. They really weren't sure. At this point, Scott was done discussing just among them. Kinley could tell his frustration was coming from having only more questions and never any answers. She knew all of them were feeling that way. Scott was just the first to break.
"We have to talk to him. We have to tell him." Scott said urgently and began to leave their row of shelves to find Jackson.
"He's not gonna-" Allison began, but Scott was already around the corner.
Stiles rolled his eyes and Kinley went to follow Scott.
"Keep re-shelving. I'll get him." Kinley told them and walked around the shelves to the main area of the library. There she saw Scott standing still and staring at a book laying open on the floor in front of one of the aisles.
Scott looked back at her, and she shrugged. It was kind of odd to just see the book lying there especially when they were in the midst of re-shelving all of them. Kinley then noticed that the room had become eerily quiet. Scott and she walked slowly toward the book and then looked down the aisle it was next to. There on the aisle floor was Matt. Kinley got closer to him and saw that there was a cut across the back of his neck. Jackson was loose in the school as the kanima.
As she realized the kanima was loose, she heard a series of loud bangs and thuds above her. She looked up and saw the kanima streak passed. Debris was falling from the ceiling. She bent down and covered her head as some fell on top of her and Scott. The debris stopped momentarily and she looked up. She saw Scott in transition to becoming a wolf. His eyes were yellow and his teeth had become fangs.
The first thought she had when she realized what was happening was Stiles. She crouched down and ran for the aisle she left Stiles and Allison in. As she ran, she heard Scott yell Erica's name. She ignored it, knowing the wolves could handle themselves. She entered the aisle and both of Stiles and Allison were on the floor. Stiles was covering Allison from falling debris. Kinley ran over and crouched next to them. Stiles looked her over and placed his hands on her face.
"You okay?" He asked as he still surveyed her. She nodded yes, but he still kept checking to make sure she was fine.
The next moment Scott was next to them as well. He placed a hand on Allison's shoulder. and she put her hand briefly over his.
Then they heard a loud thud in front of them and saw Jackson, who was in mid transition. Scales were forming on his face and his eyes were yellow slits. He still had his human body with no tail or claws but that wouldn't be for long. As they watched him, he began writing on the blackboard in the room. His movements were jerky and his eyes were blank of thought. He finished writing his message and put his arm at his side. The message read: STAY OUT OF MY WAY OR I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU. Jackson put his head down and they all took an apprehensive breath. Maybe he was changing back, Kinley hoped, but then all of sudden, Jackson jumped up and out the library window with no warning causing the group of them to jump in fear.
The chaos seemed over. The four of them looked around to make sure everything was okay as they slowly got up off the floor. Then they all walked toward the blackboard. Kinley kept reading the message, or threat rather, over and over again. At least they knew one thing, they were getting close to whoever was controlling Jackson because he/she was making threats. Enemies only begin making moves against you when they fear you might actually succeed in taking them down.
Then Kinley heard something from behind her. It sounded like someone was gasping for air. She turned and saw Erica on the ground in the next aisle over to where Matt was lying face down still. She was shaking. "Guys!" She yelled and they all turned around.
"Erica!" Stiles shouted and Kinley turned to see him running over to her. "Whoa, whoa, hey, hey," He told Erica as he reached her and turned her on her side. "I think she's having seizure." Stiles told them as he held the shaking girl in his arms. Kinley went to help Stiles with Erica and Scott and Allison went to check on Matt.
"He's alive." Allison shouted to Kinley and Stiles.
"Hey, we need to get her to a hospital." Stiles told Kinley.
"Derek-Only to Derek." Erica rasped as she convulsed in Stiles arms.
Kinley turned to Scott and Allison and spoke to them through and opening in the bookshelves. "When we get her to the hospital-"
Erica cut her off. "To Derek." She repeated. "To Derek."
"Go." Allison said to them and looked at Scott to include him as well.
Scott turned to look at Allison. "I'm staying here with you." He told her.
"They can't take her alone. Not like this." Allison explained. "And Matt-I've got to call an ambulance for him, just go." She urged.
"This doesn't feel right." Scott told her and brushed the hair out of her face.
"It's okay." She told him and tried to sound as calm as she could in these circumstance to make Scott feel like he could leave her.
"No, it's not. No, it's not right." Scott argued.
"It doesn't-It doesn't mean anything." She told him.
"But it feels like it does." Scott replied and sounded like a wounded puppy.
"Scott, go. Go." Allison said with finality.
"Okay," Scott gave in. He kissed her on the forehead and headed over to Stiles and Kinley. He picked up Erica and the group ran out, leaving Allison behind.
All four of them piled into Stiles' Jeep. Kinley was in the front and Scott was in the back, holding onto Erica. They drove to Derek's against all of their better judgement. Hopefully when they got to Derek's, he would say to take her to the hospital and then she would listen.
Erica told them to go to the abandoned Train station to find Derek. It was a little out of the way but not too bad. Stiles got there quickly. They ran down to where Erica pointed and ended up underground by an old, decrepit subway car. All the doors were open on the car and it was rusting through. There were very few lights strung up so as a non-werewolf, it was hard for Kinley to see at first. Her eyes adjusted quickly, and she noticed all the broken pieces of train car and garbage strewn across the floor.
Scott ran into the train car and found Derek there. Derek's eyes were wide with fear when he saw Erica. He pushed all of them into the train car. Scott placed Erica on the floor and they all crouched around her.
"Pull her up." Derek said and Stiles lifted Erica into his lap and held her head.
"Is she dying?" Stiles asked and his voice was shaky.
"She might, I- which is why this is gonna hurt." Derek replied and then lifted up the sleeve of Erica's black leather jacket. Derek then preceded to break her wrist. Erica screamed out in agony.
"You broke her arm!" Stiles yelled.
"It'll trigger the healing process." Derek explained over Erica's scream. "I still gotta get the venom out. This is where it's really gonna hurt."
Kinley couldn't stand to see the girl in this much pain. So she tried to focus on calming Erica down and making her feel comfortable. Derek then dug his hands into Erica's arm and squeezed it to release the venom. Erica started to scream again but then she stopped and fell limp in Stiles arms. It worked, Kinley thought. She controlled it. Of course, she only controlled it in a high adrenaline situation again, but she was at least being helpful. Derek looked at her briefly realizing what she had done. The rest paid no attention to Kinley, thinking that the release of the venom caused Erica to calm down.
Erica then looked up at Stiles. "Stiles…" She whispered. He looked back down at her. "You make a good batman." She told him. Kinley added a little more intensity onto Erica and then made her pass out.
Derek told Stiles to stay with Erica and that she would be fine after she got some rest. He then walked out of the train car. Kinley got up and followed him. Scott was at her heels.
"You know who it is." She yelled at Derek and he stopped and turned around.
"Jackson." Derek replied and sat on what looked like an old oil drum.
"You just wanted Erica to confirm it, didn't you?" She asked.
"I'm gonna help you stop him. As part of your pack." Scott said behind her. She turned and looked at him, shocked. That was the last thing she thought Scott would ever do. Scott took a step forward to talk to Derek. "If you want me in, fine. But we'll do it on one condition. We're gonna catch him, not kill him." Scott told Derek.
A smile spread across Kinley's face. Scott might be joining Derek, but it was for a good reason.
"And?" Derek said, knowing there was more.
"And we're doing it our way." Scott said and pointed to Kinley and himself. "Kinley has been straddling both sides for a long time. We need to work together or we will get no where." Scott said.
"Fine." Derek replied. "Besides super power girl over here might be helpful." Derek said.
Scott looked at Kinley with a confused expression. "Super power?" Scott questioned.
"Yeah, no one really knew about that." Kinley told Derek. "Just you and Deaton."
"Oh." Derek said and Kinley saw that he felt really awkward in that moment.
"So you have super powers?" Scott asked in a sort of mocking tone.
"Not exactly but it was not the venom leaving Erica's system that made her pass out. I did that. I can manipulate emotions and some other things. I was the one who helped you return to human form the night you wolfed out in the school. I made you feel your connection to Allison and it brought you back." Kinley explained.
"Oh... cool." Scott replied and seemed like he was still trying to wrap his brain around the idea that she had powers. "Weird but cool….and thanks, I guess."
"Also, I'm trying to keep this quiet for now. If Gerard finds out I'm dead. That's why I haven't been telling anyone. It puts them in danger. He will use them to get to me. So please don't tell Stiles, whatever you do." She pleaded.
"Okay, but I really don't like lying to him." Scott admitted.
"Neither do I but this keeps him alive and off Gerard's hit list." Kinley reminded Scott.
"True. I won't tell him anything." Scott replied.
"Thanks. So we have a deal Derek?" Kinley asked.
"Deal." Derek agreed and Scott and him shook hands. Derek then walked back to the subway car to check on Erica. Kinley and Scott followed him.
They all stayed there for a while, but Derek urged them to leave once he was certain Erica would fully recover. She was doing better by the time the three of them left. She was resting comfortably with most likely no help from Kinley. Kinley was pretty sure, she couldn't keep someone under control that long. Stiles took Scott and her home in his jeep. He dropped Scott of first and then took Kinley home.
"Thanks for the ride." She told him and turned to get out of the car. But before she could Stiles grabbed her hand and pulled her back to face him. He then placed one hand on her face and kissed her.
"Sorry, I just really needed to do that." He told her.
She responded to his apology by pulling him in for another kiss. His hand moved up to her neck and then he tensed and pulled away. Kinley was confused and little hurt by his sudden rejection.
"What is that?" He asked her.
"Huh?" She replied.
He moved her hair and examined the back of her neck. "You have cut across the back of your neck like in the pool and you didn't didn't get paralyzed."
"What?" She said and then moved the Jeep's visor down to reveal the mirror. She looked at the back of her neck and sure enough there was a cut there. "But I didn't even feel it." She said to herself.
"Do you want to explain that?" Stiles asked and raised an inquisitive eyebrow.
"I-I-I" Kinley stammered. "It also could have been from one of the many pieces of ceiling that hit me too. I mean look" Kinley said and pointed to her many other injuries. "It's probably just a coincidence. If it was the kanima, I would have felt it. I would have known." She tried to convince Stiles. "Either way, I'm okay."
"Right, sorry, I just- I don't want anything to happen to you. Lydia was already a target for this and I don't want you to be either." Stiles said and grabbed her hand.
"You have nothing to worry about….Well, besides my tendency to run into homicidal situations. Other than that though…" She joked but he didn't laugh."No one is trying to hurt me. I promise." She lied.
Stiles let out a sigh of relief and kissed her one more time before he let her get out of the car.
She walked into Lydia's house and saw Lydia sitting in the backyard. She was leaning against the terrace next to the pool and sobbing. Kinley ran out to her.
"Lydia, are you okay?" She asked. She looked Lydia over and she was covered in dirt. "Where have you been?" Kinley asked.
Lydia abruptly stopped crying and looked up at Kinley. "What are you doing here? I thought you had detention." Lydia said.
"Lydia it's 10 o'clock. I've been out of detention for hours. Where have you been?" She asked her.
Lydia looked around and finally noticed her surroundings. "I-I don't know." Fear was spreading across Lydia's face. "What's happening?" She asked and began to cry again.
"It's okay, Lydia. Let's get you to bed. You're probably just exhausted" Kinley told her and Lydia nodded. Kinley helped Lydia get off the ground and led her upstairs to her bed. "Just get some sleep and things will be better tomorrow." She told Lydia. Lydia just nodded again and climbed into bed without changing or washing up. Kinley was going to say something, but the moment Lydia's head hit the pillow, she was out.
Kinley quietly left Lydia in her room and went to hers. Kinley then collapsed into bed herself.
