Previously on The Green-Eyed Girl: The plan for catching Jackson was not going well at all, especially because Kinley was taken and poisoned by Mrs. Argent. The last we saw, Kinley was slipping into unconsciousness from the toxin while she heard something horrible happening in the next room over.
Kinley woke up for the second time that night. This time she found herself on a cold metal table. She coughed and tried to sit up, but she felt too tired to do so. She then heard footsteps move quickly toward her.
"You know waking up somewhere you have no recollection of getting to in one night is fine, but twice is excessive." Kinley said and her voice still sounded hoarse and weak. Kinley felt someone take her hand. She looked over and saw Stiles who was exhausted, ecstatic, and terrified at the same time.
"What did I tell you about doing this again?" Stiles said and squeezed her hand.
"I know, I know, I really need to get better at not getting kidnapped or blacking out." She replied and tried to laugh, but it hurt.
Kinley heard the door open, and Deaton walked in. "Oh good, you're awake." He said and then walked over to the table to take a look at her. "Scott's still out." Deaton told Stiles. Stiles nodded and looked uneasy.
"Scott, what happened to Scott?" She asked, slowly remembering what Mrs. Argent said about him and the agonizing howls she heard earlier. "Is he okay?" She tried to sit up, but Stiles put his hand on her shoulder and pushed her back on the table.
"He's fine." Deaton told her.
"And you are not." Stiles added. He still hadn't moved his hand from holding her down. "So just rest for a second."
Kinley relaxed and Stiles released his hand from her shoulder and placed it back into her hand. "So what exactly did this to me?" She asked Deaton.
"A rare paralytic, for lack of a better word, potion that hunters have been known to use. They create it using various herbs like curare, hemlock, and belladonna that are known to slow down a person. They call it 'quicksand' because the more you struggle, the quicker it kills. There's an easy antidote for it, which is just a dose of atropine. Of course, that's if you get the antidote in time which we almost didn't because you had to struggle." Deaton replied.
"I didn't…" Kinley stated to say, but then Deaton just stared at her with an "are you kidding me" kind of face. She shut her mouth.
"Kinley, this poison takes hours to reach the level it did when we found you. You're lucky that door got left open or we wouldn't have noticed you there. No one would have known you were missing until we got back to Stiles, and by then, it would have been too late." He explained.
"Oh." She replied and looked up at Stiles with an apologetic expression. Stiles just shook his head at her. She could tell he was annoyed with her behavior but also knew she wouldn't ever change it.
"So what now?" She asked.
"We wait for Scott to wake up, and we go from there." Deaton replied.
Kinley nodded in response. They waited a few hours and Scott was still not waking up. He was healing, but it was a long, slow process. The amount of wolfsbane he inhaled was significant. Deaton explained that not only was Kinley taken by Mrs. Argent, but so was Scott. His torture had been much worse. Mrs. Argent didn't play around apparently.
After a few hours of waiting, Kinley was already sitting up and feeling almost back to normal, which they all were surprised about. Stiles even thought she was lying her current state, but he finally gave in and knew she was feeling better after she punched him in the arm. It was then that Derek walked in to give them an update on Scott.
"He's still out." He told them.
Deaton seem to like what he heard. His expression change to one a little more grave than before. "I think I'm going to try and make something up to possibly speed up Scott's healing process. Having him be unconscious this long has become unsettling. I will be back." Deaton informed them and then left the room.
"How are you already almost back to normal?" Derek asked and looked her up and down like there has to be something wrong.
Kinley groaned. "I was just poisoned like any human. Once the antidote is administered, the poison is flushed out and you can recover pretty quick. Scott is going through something a lot different." She explained.
Derek nodded and leaned against the door frame. "I want to wait for Scott to wake up, but the full moon is soon and we are running out of time. I can't just sit here." He said and then hit the wall out of frustration.
"Fine. Let's not just sit." Kinley said and hopped off the table. "Stiles, you stay here and watch Scott, and Derek and I can go and get some research done." She suggested.
And for once, Stiles and Derek agreed.
"Not a good idea, hunter girl." Derek said.
"No, it's too soon for that." Stiles added quickly after Derek.
Kinley rolled her eyes at the two of them. "It will just be research and planning, nothing in the field. Derek's right. We are running out of time and sitting here, doing nothing is helping no one." She said and started going through her bag for her keys so she could leave.
"It's helping you heal." Stiles argued.
"Heal from what? I'm fine. Leaving here and doing a little research won't hurt." She told him.
"Fine then I'll do it. I'll research and you stay." Stiles replied.
"No." Derek said to him. "If anyone's helping me right now it's either her or Scott. They're trained for this. You're not."
"So now you think she should go?" Stiles yelled at Derek.
"No, but it's better than you. She has previous knowledge. She's half a demon encyclopedia already. She can connect dots that you can't. It will be be faster with her." Derek explained.
Stiles got as close to Derek as he was comfortable. "I almost lost her tonight because of a plan we came up with. A plan we barely had time to figure out. I am not losing her because we are running out of time and doing things rashly. No one is going anywhere!" Stiles shouted and it actually made Kinley jump a little.
Both Derek and Kinley were taken aback by Stiles' reaction. Stiles never really got mad, and if he did, it came out in random sarcastic comments that we're a little more mean than funny. But this was just pure anger.
Kinley walked up and put her hand on Stiles' shoulder but then looked over at Derek. "Derek, could you give us a minute?" She asked. Derek nodded and went back to check on Scott.
"Stiles, you didn't lose me, and you won't." She told him.
Stiles turned to completely face her and took her hands. "How can you lie to me like that?" He asked. "Any of us could die at any moment right now. Don't you realize that?" He looked down at their hands. His were fidgeting in between hers. Kinley had never seen him this anxious.
Kinley then thought for a moment. She was so used to this kind of life, the constant fear and the impending loss that lurked around every corner. She learned that it was always best to get up and keep moving instead standing still. At least if you were moving, you had a chance to change something. If you just stood still, you were just waiting for death to find you.
"I do know that, Stiles." She answered him. "I've known it my whole life. I guess, I'm just more used to it than you are, but you have to realize that if we don't keep going, we won't be able to fix anything. Derek and I need to work and you need to stay and watch Scott. If we stop, they win." She explained. She placed a hand on his face and made him look at her. "Please, Stiles, understand because if you don't, I don't know how we can can do this." She said and gestured to the two of them. "This is who I am, and it's not gonna change, and if you don't trust that I'm making the right choices then..." She trialed off, not wanting to say anymore.
Stiles nodded and pulled her in and kissed her. "I do trust you, but I've only known you for a few months and you've nearly died several times already. You can get my hesitance to let you do anything at this point." He replied and laughed a little.
"I can," She said and smiled at him. "But it doesn't change the matter at hand."
His lighthearted mood faded because he knew she was right. He nodded at her and then looked back at their hands together with disappointed expression. Kinley hated seeing him like this.
"Tell you what." She said and tried to sound extra positive. "Derek and I research, and if we come up with nothing, then the next fun thing that is planned, we can do and I won't fight you on it. Deal?" She replied and then moved her hands to around his neck and pulled herself closer to him.
He pretended to think about it for a moment and then said,"Deal."
She laughed at him and then he pulled her into a closer hug where her head rested on his chest and his chin rested on top of her head. She stayed there for a moment, but knew she had work to do. So she broke away, gave him one last kiss and then went to find Derek.
Kinley and Derek headed back to Derek's temporary underground hideout, the subway station where they brought Erica during her seizure. Derek walked into the subway car and sat down. He looked lost for the first time since Kinley had met him. Kinley was used to seeing Derek always with a plan or at least with a scowl of determination. This time though, he looked like he wanted to through in the towel.
"I've seen a lot of things, Kinley. But I've never seen anything like this. Every new moon's just gonna make him stronger." Derek said.
"Then we have to find a way to stop him. There is always something."
"I don't know if we can this time." He replied.
"My uncle got the best of one of these things before. There has to be something we're missing. We just need to keep-" She began.
Derek cut her off. "I'm the one who turned him. It's my fault." Derek said. "This is my-"
"Yeah, you did turn him. But you didn't turn him into this." Kinley yelled and cut him off this time. "This happened because of something in his past, right?"
"That's a legend in a book. It's not that simple." Derek replied getting angry.
"What are you not telling me then?" Kinley asked him. If he was so bent on it being his fault only then he had to know more. Nothing else made sense to Kinley.
"Why do you and Scott think I'm always keeping something from you?" Derek asked.
"Because previous experience has told me you are. Your entire plan to become an alpha was a nice shock that night. " Kinley replied.
"Well, maybe I do it to protect you and your little friends." Derek said and sounded fed up with this entire conversation.
"Doesn't working with you and having Scott join your pack mean no more secrets?" She asked and sat across from him. She tried to sound less angry and more understanding.
"You know what? I should have sided with your stupid boyfriend. Just go home, Kinley. Sleep. Heal. Make sure they're all safe 'cause the full moon's coming and with the way things are going, I've got a feeling it's gonna be a rough one." He said.
Derek got up and walked out of the train car. Kinley went to follow him but he ran off. She had a lot of powers but super speed wasn't one of them. There was no way she could catch him.
Well, that was a complete waste, Kinley thought. If Derek was just going to do that then why didn't he just make her stay there with Stiles? Why did he let her tag along here in the first place? Well, Kinley wasn't going to give in that easily. He had to come back sometime and she would be here. She always won the stubborn game
She waited a few hours, using her time to try and move small objects around the subway car. She could at least use her time for something more than sitting and she actually got a few small objects to come to her. She however was about to give up because it was 3am and she needed to sleep before school but then she heard something. She jumped up and was in a ready to fight stance and she walked toward the subway doors. As she walked out, she saw Derek.
"I thought I told you to go home." He told her. He brushed passed her and headed into the subway car. He pulled of his shirt and put on a new one.
"I thought I would hang out. This place is so lovely after all." She said mockingly and gestured to the dump that this place was. "Also I was hoping you would reveal what you haven't told me yet." She replied and stood in the only subway car door that was open.
Derek walked up to her to try and leave again. "Move." He told her.
"I'm gonna go with no." She replied. "Not until you answer my question. I know you're hiding something."
"Don't make me move you." He told her and stared at her with his best evil glare.
Kinley just smiled, trying to not show any fear. She really had no idea if she could hold her ground, but she wasn't going to let him know that. She had learned to control her heart rate fairly well over the last few years. She had also been practicing her powers and thought maybe she could get her electricity to work. Guess, she would find out.
"What makes you think you can?" She asked like a challenge.
He placed a hand on her shoulder and then quickly removed it. He let out a strained, "Son of a…" and shook his hand from the shock. "What the hell was that?"
"You tell me yours and I'll tell you mine." She replied coolly. "I've got a few new tricks."
Derek looked furious, and Kinley almost hated to admit it, but she felt amused by all of this. She knew it was probably due to exhaustion, but it was better than a lot of other feelings she could have about this situation.
"Fine." Derek growled. "In order to save Scott, I did something that I probably shouldn't have." He said.
"And that would be…" Kinley asked.
"I bit Mrs. Argent. She is either dying or changing right now." He confessed.
"You what!?" Kinley yelled. "You bit a hunter! You know what's going to happen now. She is dead either way. Allison will blame Scott for this and then Scott might never forgive you." She rambled out as she processed this information.
"I know. But that bitch deserved it! She nearly killed Scott and was after you next." He yelled but then tried to calm himself down. "Look, in wolf form, things don't always get a full thought process, but in that moment, I knew what she deserved so I made her into what she hated most. And I would do it again." Derek growled.
Kinley dropped her arms from the doors. The hunters code said that if you were bit by anything that would turn you against another hunter that it was your duty to take your own life before you did any harm. Derek had essentially killed Allison's mother with one small bite. It was an honorable death, but one a hunter never wanted to face.
"Look, I get it Derek. She was ready to torture and kill me, but to a hunter, that is one of the worst ways to die. I don't wish that on anyone." She replied. "I-I need to go." She told him and headed for the stairs that led her above ground.
"Wait, what about your news?" Derek began to ask.
"I've gained new powers. I know I'm fae but not what kind. And I'm learning to control my powers like how I shocked you just now. The electricity is one of the new ones." She said and then turned to leave again but Derek spoke.
"Have you looked further back than when Fae was called Fae? Druids had secret oral records that some specific people may have written down. They might be able to give you more insight into your powers. The beings back then were more powerful. Maybe your magic is older than even Deaton knows." Derek told her. She could tell Derek was trying to do anything to help make up for his recent actions. He was going to have to do a lot.
"How do you know this?" She asked.
"I told you I would research for you if you helped me with Peter. I haven't done a lot, but I don't forget a deal. I'll help you find out who you are." He replied.
"Wow..." Kinley really didn't know what to say. "Thanks. I'll look into that." She replied. "But I should go. Right now I need to deal with a girl who already lost her aunt and is about to lose her mother. And find a way for Scott to still trust you after this. Derek, you really screwed up this time. I hope we can fix it." She told him and left Derek alone in the subway station.
She ended up going to Lydia's since it was three in the morning and she obviously couldn't talk to Allison at that moment. Kinley wasn't sure what upset her more about what Derek told her; that Derek turned a hunter which she had been brought up to think was abominable, or that he took someone's mother away from them like someone had done to her. She guessed it was a mix of both but leaning more on the latter. However, after what Derek did for her and his explanation of his actions, she almost couldn't be upset with him at all. Derek intentions were in the right place, but his actions were always the wrong ones. Also, she had been learning that being a creature like a werewolf was not a death sentence or even something horrific. Since she was something now, she really began to believe that it didn't matter what you were but what you did with it.
She walked up the Martin's front steps and unlocked the door. She was expecting no one to be awake. But as she opened it, she saw Lydia straight ahead looking out the back sliding glass doors that led to the pool. She was standing perfectly still, and Kinley thought she heard her talking.
"Lydia?" She called to her. "Why are you still up?" She asked as she approached the girl.
"And what if I don't?" Lydia said.
"What if you don't, what? Lydia?" Kinley asked, but she was still just staring straight ahead and didn't notice Kinley was there.
"Why me?" Lydia said and tears were beginning to form in her eyes.
"Because I am talking to you." Kinley answered.
Lydia just stared forward for a minute before asking. "Immune to what?"
Immune, Kinley thought. Did Lydia know that they thought she was immune to the werewolf bite? Before Kinley could ask her anything, Lydia began to pant nervously and look around the room. Kinley tried to snap her out of whatever trance she was in, but nothing happened. Lydia then slowly turned to face the kitchen to her left. She stared at the window and fear filled her face. She then screamed so loudly that Kinley had to cover her ears. It reminded Kinley of time she heard Lydia scream when she left the hospital. The sound stopped and Kinley looked up to see Lydia cover her face and collapse.
A light suddenly turned on and Lydia's mother came running down. "Lydia? Honey?" She asked as she ran down the stairs. She then noticed Kinley was also standing there. "Oh Kinley you're home. What happened?" Mrs. Martin asked.
"I-I don't know. I came in and she was standing here. I asked her why she was still up and the she just screamed." Kinley explained.
"That's it, she is going to see someone. This isn't happening anymore" Mrs. Martin replied.
"Wait, has this happened before?" Kinley asked and only remember the one night Lydia shattered the mirror but didn't recall any others that had happened while at the Martin house.
"Here, help me get her upstairs." Mrs. Martin asked and Kinley bent down and put on of Lydia's arms over her shoulder. They began to bring her upstairs. "She has done this a few times, but usually she remains in her bed. I just don't know what could be wrong." Lydia's mom said and sounded genuinely scared.
"They must just be nightmares, maybe from the video store incident and then whatever happened at the dance. That sounds pretty normal for what Lydia has gone through." Kinley tried to explain. She knew it was something more, but she needed Lydia's mom to leave this alone. "I bet if we keep things as normal as possible, they will stop. Something similar happened to my cousin." She said.
"I hope you're right. I still want her to continue her guidance meetings. But they don't seem to to be getting her any better." Mrs. Martin replied.
They reached Lydia's room and placed her on the bed.
"A girl like Lydia is resilient. She'll pull through" She told Mrs. Martin who then seemed to calm a little.
"Thanks, Kinley." Mrs. Martin told her. "I'm glad Lydia has a friend like you looking out for her. But you should get some sleep. You've been in late the last few nights."
"I will." She said to Mrs. Martin and then left for her own room. Kinley immediately passed out the moment she laid down.
The next morning, she was abruptly woken by Lydia jumping on her bed with a bunch of shopping bags. Well, this was a 180, Kinley thought
"Time to wake up." Lydia sung to try and rouse Kinley awake.
"What time is it?" Kinley asked groggily.
"It's 1pm. I let you sleep long enough. You're lucky I didn't drag you out of bed to go shopping with me like I did Allison." Lydia told her.
Kinley sat up and saw Allison also standing in her room. Kinley nodded to Allison as a hello and Allison waved back.
"So up, up ,up." Lydia urged. "We have a lot of work to do before the party."
"Party?" Kinley questioned and looked at Allison. "I thought we were cancelling that because you know, it's not much of a celebration time right now."
Lydia had mentioned a week ago that she was throwing her annual birthday party this weekend. Allison and Kinley had managed to convince her to push it off because of the recent craziness that was happening in town. She thought they got Lydia to agree.
"I know but then I thought a party is exactly what we need at a time like this. All of us need to blow off a little steam, hang out with some guys, and be 17 for a change." She said and Kinley tried to argue, but Lydia didn't let her. "And don't try to convince me otherwise. My mind is made up."
"I thought it was made up before." Kinley muttered.
"What was that?" Lydia asked.
"Nothing, Lydia." She replied and then looked at all the shopping bags. "So what's all this?" Kinley asked to change the topic.
"Yeah, how many outfits do you plan on wearing tonight?" Allison asked.
Lydia looked at the two of them like they should know that this was obviously a multi-outfit party. "It's my birthday party. I'm thinking host dress." She said and pulled out a grey and black striped dress with a small open triangle in the back to show off some skin. "Evening dress, then, mm, after-hours casual." She told them and held up a different dress for each look.
Kinley barely knew what she was talking about so she just nodded and smiled.
"I noticed that you didn't send out any invites." Allison said.
At this point, Kinley knew she wasn't going back to sleep and got out of her bed and put a robe on. She felt awkward sitting under the covers in only a t-shirt and underwear.
"It's the biggest party of the year, Allison. Everyone knows." She replied and then began laying out clothes on Kinley's bed. Lydia had a way of making any room feel like it was her own regardless of where she was. Kinley moved to give the girl all of her bed.
"I was wondering if this year, you know, might be different." Allison said.
Now Kinley knew what Allison was doing. Allison was back to trying to make Lydia cancel the party or at least make it not as big of a deal. Large events tended to attract all the bad lately.
"Why would anything be different?" Lydia asked.
Allison looked at Kinley for help, but Kinley wasn't sure what to say. Social events were never her strong suit. But she tried to help anyways.
"Just 'cause things have been off lately. Things and people. Like Jackson." Kinley said and shrugged at Allison. Allison gave Kinley a weak smile in response, knowing that mentioning Jackson could cause Lydia to react in many different ways. Ever since their break-up, he made Lydia a little crazy.
It seemed that mentioning Jackson was a bad idea since Lydia acted quite unhappy about. "What do you care about Jackson?" She asked with more than a hint of anger.
Kinley had no idea how to respond to this. Thank god Allison jumped in. "Do you know if he's coming tonight?" She asked and made it sound casual.
"Everyone's coming." Lydia said defensively and then her tone changed dramatically back to chipper party planner. "This one's American Rag." This time Lydia help up a tan v-neck, dress with a flowy skirt that cinched at the waist. "Mm. love it! For me, not you guys." She then rummaged in a bag and pulled out a black dress with orange and pink floral pattern over it. It was spaghetti strapped with a corset top and an a-line skirt. "This one's material girl, for Allison." She said. "And don't think forgot you." She then pulled out a deep forest green dress that had a wide v-neck to make the straps almost got off her shoulders and it looked like it would fit her snuggly all the way down. "This is 1940s pin-up with a twist for Kinley."
Kinley could not see herself getting into that dress. She never wore anything that skin tight, and then Lydia turned it around. The dress was even more revealing with it having the same small triangle opeing on the back as Lydia's dress did. There was no way she was wearing that.
Allison's phone rang and she put up her finger to tell Lydia one minute before trying on the new clothes. "Hi, mom." Allison said and Kinley cringed. It was only a matter of time before Mrs. Argent took her life. "Um, can we do it later?" She heard Allison say.
"Party's at 10." Lydia yelled at Allison. Allison shushed her.
"Yeah, I think so...I don't know." Allison said somewhat agitatedly. "Okay, bye." She said and hung up the phone. "Okay, let's get this party started." Allison told them. Allison definitely seemed in denial about something regarding her parents. Kinley wondered what it was.
The girls spent the next few hours trying on clothes and adding and taking away accessories for their party outfits. They discussed what make-up they would use to accompany what they chose to wear. And by they, Kinley meant Allison and Lydia. Kinley sat back and was told what to do and just followed, knowing it would be easier. Around 4pm, they got disrupted when Kinley's phone rang. It was Stiles. Kinley grabbed it and the girls made "ooh and aww" noises to mock her. She waved them off and went in the hall to talk to him. She was hoping this had to do with the case. She couldn't handle much more party talk.
"Hey, what's up?" She answered.
"I think I got our break in the case." Stiles told her.
"What?" Kinley asked excitedly.
"So far everyone one who's been killed was not only in the same class but on the same swim team." Stiles told her.
"The water fear the kanima has... That makes sense." Kinley replied.
"I know and here's the best part. Guess who was their coach?" He asked her.
"Who?"
"One Mr. Lahey. This covers everything!" He said excitedly but then added "Of course, why someone would want to off the entire swim team is something that I have no answer for. We at least have something!"
"That's great. You're amazing, you know that." She told him.
"Heh, I try." He said, trying to sound cool and Kinley just laughed.
"Also, is Lydia's party still happening?" Stiles asked.
"Yeah, it is. Allison and I tried to stop it, but it was no use. You know Lydia. But I'm worried. She had another freak out last night and who knows what might happen with a bunch of people here." She explained.
"Well, we'll be there in case something does happen. Scott and I will meet you there. I'm gonna keep researching and see if I can find a motive before the festivities." He told her.
"Great, see you in a few hours." She said and hung up the phone. She walked back into her bedroom and saw Lydia and Allison on her bed, laying down with their feet in the air.
The scene shouldn't have made Kinley jump, but it did. It looked so normal suburban teenager. It was her room with her best friends sitting on her bed, getting ready for a party. It was so normal, it was weird. Kinley found she liked it though. Even though these past hours had be a little tortuous since she didn't care much for makeup and nail talk. She had to admit, she liked having these close friends to laugh and talk about other things besides demons and werewolves. She could be a side of herself that no one ever really saw.
"What?" Allison asked since Kinley was just standing there staring at the two of them.
"Uh, nothing. Just wondering what shoes to wear. I only own a few pairs." She said.
"Well, that is an easy problem to fix." Lydia said and dragged Kinley out of the room and into her own.
By eight o'clock, all the girls were ready. They had made punch, hung some streamers, and put out the food that Lydia got catered in. Kinley put a light brown sweater over her dress to cover the open back part. She was still getting used to how tight it was, but she thought it looked nice enough. She ended up borrowing a pair of white shoes with black polka dots on them to go with the dress. Kinley had to admit, she didn't think she'd like the polka dots, but she really did on these shoes.
The only thing they had to do now was wait for the guests to arrive. The doorbell rang and Lydia ran to get it with a tray of drinks on her hand. Allison and Kinley waited for Lydia to come back with the new guests next to the table of food out by the pool. It was only a minute later that Scott and Stiles walked into the back yard.
"So, Jackson's not here." Allison told them.
Stiles looked around and notice how empty the party was. "Yeah, no ones here." He said and then put an arm around Kinley. "You look really nice by the way." He told him and she said thanks. Stiles looked pretty good. He took off his usual sweatshirt and jeans look and replaced it with t-shirt and a nice open plaid shirt over it. It was casual which was fitting for him but a little nicer than his normal look.
"Maybe it's just early." Scott suggested.
"Or maybe nobody's coming because Lydia's turned into the town wack job." Stiles replied. Kinley hit Stiles. "What? It's true." He told her.
"Okay, fine. It's true." Kinley said and they all looked over at Lydia who was walking around with a tray of drinks to serve with no one to serve them to.
"Well, we have to do something, because we've completely ignored her for the last two weeks." Allison said.
"She's completely ignored us for the past 10 years." Scott replied. "We don't owe her a party."
"What about a chance to get back to normal." Allison argued.
"Normal?" Scott questioned.
"Allison has a point. She wouldn't be the town wack job if it wasn't for us." Kinley said.
"I guess I could use my co-captain status to get the lacrosse team here." Scott said.
"Yeah, I also know some people who can get this thing going. Like really going." Stiles suggested.
"Who?" Kinley asked. As far as she knew, Stiles was friends with Scott and some guys on the lacrosse team. Who else could he get that Scott couldn't.
"I met them the other night. Let's just say they know how to party" Stiles explained.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang again, and Lydia ran back to the door. As they all stood by the pool, they watched a flood of people join the party. Kinley recognized a chunk of them from the lacrosse team and didn't know the rest. Were those drag queens, Kinley asked herself as she looked into the crowd. She looked at Stiles.
"I made some friends at the club the other night. They were very nice guys...girls?" Stiles questioned. Kinley just roller her eyes at him.
"Go and talk to Scott. He looks a little worse for wear." She told Stiles. "I'm gonna get a drink."
Stiles nodded to her request and went to check on Scott.
Kinley headed over to the punch bowl filled with some type of light pink drink and poured herself a glass. It was sickenly sweet but tasted pretty good. She downed the class and watched as her classmates and others danced the night away. The drink hitter harder than she thought. She felt a little dizzy. What did Lydia put in this, she wondered.
She looked around the party and noticed that Jackson had arrived. She knew this was not going to end well. She turned to try and find where Stiles went when she suddenly felt arms around her waist and felt lips near her neck. "Stiles, we have to keep an eye on Lydia. Jackson's here." She told him.
"We can do that and dance at the same time," he whispered in her ear and then spun her around.
She laughed as he spun her, and they began to sway to the music. He put his arms around her waist and she put hers around his neck.
"You know I think you could use more days off like this. We could dance like this more often." He told her and then spun her out and back in again.
"You know you might have me convinced to take a few more days off." She played along. "But only if you spin me like that again." She teased. He spun her one more time and brought her back. This time he spun her back so she was facing away from him. He started kissing her neck again, all the way up to her ear. She was going weak in the knees from the sensation tingling down her entire body.
"Stiles, we're in public." She told him.
"That makes it more fun." He teased. "Of course, we could always get away for some alone time." He whispered in her ear.
"Don't tempt me." She replied. "We have to keep an eye on Lydia. We can't." she told him.
"Come on. It will only be for a little while. You deserve a little free time." He said and nibbled on her ear again.
"You know, you make a very persuasive argument." She told him. "Maybe a little time to ourselves wouldn't hurt."
He squeezed her tighter to him. "Of course you know what happens when you take time off, don't you?" He whispered into her ear.
"What?" She said and tried to push back from Stiles but he wouldn't let her. She spun herself around to face him. She then felt the front of her dress become cold. The sensation was spreading across her chest. She finally used her strength to pull away from Stiles. She looked down, and she was covered in blood. She checked herself over, but she was fine. She then looked up and saw one of her daggers in Stiles' stomach.
"I knew it was only a matter of time before you caused my death too." Stiles said and then dropped to his knees and then fell face forward on the ground. Blood was pooling around him and dripping into the near by pool making it turn a reddish pink. She ran to Stiles' side and tried to turn him over. The yard became completely silent. Then all she heard was the sound of bodies falling to the ground. She looked up and everyone at the party looked just like Stiles did. They were face down in pools of blood. She looked closer and realized they were no longer the party goers. They were all people she knew and cared for. She saw Penn and Sam, and Allison and Lydia.
"No, no!" She screamed and began to sob. She crawled over to the pillar next to the pool that was holding up the second floor balcony and huddled herself there. She looked out and saw everyone with the same dead stare. She began rocking back and forth and repeated, "I could have stopped this."
"Kinley," She heard someone say, but it didn't matter. She just killed everyone she loved. They were all dead. Why should she even listen to the voice saying her name. She then felt a hand on her shoulder and then cold water hitting her face. She was brought back out of the water and she took a deep breath of air.
Suddenly, all the music was back and she saw people dancing. Stiles was staring at her and holding her face. "Kinley, it's just a hallucination. Come back, come back to me." He told her. She still saw flashes of his dead eyes staring at her. It's just a hallucination. He and everyone else is fine. Slowly the flashes stopped and she just saw Stiles as he was. She hugged him and pulled him tightly to her.
"I think, she's back." Stiles said to Scott.
"What happened?" She asked.
"There's something in the punch. We think." Scott answered. Most of us came out of the hallucinations but you wouldn't."
"We had to dunk your head in the pool." Stiles said apologetically.
"Thanks." she replied and stood up. "Did you say hallucinations?" Kinley asked, realizing something.
"Yeah, why?" Scott asked.
"Wolfsbane." Kinley replied and both Scott and Stiles stared at her quizzically. "When ingested or inhaled it can cause all sorts of things to happen especially hallucinations."
"Why would someone put that in a drink at a party and also who the hell else would know to even that?" Stiles asked.
"That's just another thing we have to figure out." Kinley replied.
Everyone then just looked more frustrated. Everything in this case was becoming more complicated. Kinley looked at the rest of the party and it was getting out of control. The wolfsbane in the punch was affecting everyone in different ways. To her left people were dancing and letting more loose than they should and then to her right, she saw a group holding up a kid who was screaming for them to put him down. It was Matt, she realized.
"Pool!" The group yelled.
"No, I can't swim! I can't swim." Matt yelled but the group still walked over and dropped him in the pool. Matt flailed in the water, reaching his hands out for someone to help. Jackson ran over and pulled him out. "What are you looking at?" Matt yelled at everyone who was now staring at him. He then stomped off through Kinley, Scott, and Stiles. They all looked at each other with the same idea.
Before they could talk, someone yelled, "The cops are here! Party's over!" and then everyone ran for it.
The party was cleared out in seconds. Kinley followed Scott out the front, thinking Stiles was behind her.
"Hey, where's Allison?" Kinley asked Scott.
"She got a call from her dad. Something about her mom. I'm not sure."
Kinley heart rate sped up. She knew what that was about. Allison was in for a long night. Kinley hoped she could visit Allison tomorrow and check on her. She feared what this might make the girl do. But then what she saw next brought her back to the present.
Both her and Scott made it to the front yard and then stopped in their tracks when they saw the kanima next to Matt. It's tail was wrapped around him in a protective manner, and it was hissing at them. Matt was standing there angrily staring at all the party goes. Kinley went to move forward when a car passed and by the time the car was gone, so was Matt.
Stiles appred behind them a moment later. "Did I just see...?" He asked.
"Yes, Matt's controlling the kamina," Kinley replied.
