Disclaimer: I do not own Teen Wolf. Jeff Davis does and he is making us wait until June for more. Damn him.
Previously on the Green-Eyed Girl: Beacon Hills won the championship but not without a few losses of their own. Jackson was found dead on the field and Stiles wasn't found.
Coach yelled for everyone to either clear the field and go home, or to clear the field and wait for their players by their cars. Either way everyone needed to go because Jackson had just been declared dead by Mrs. McCall and an ambulance had been called to take him to the hospital, and no one needed to be around to see all of this.
And even though the initial chaos was dying down, the sheriff looked even more worried about Stiles and honestly, Kinley felt the same way.
"Did you see him once the game ended?" The sheriff asked Kinley.
"No, I didn't." She confessed, feeling more and more awful. How could she not have seen him? "I was looking for him, but then...Jackson and... I...I just thought he was out here." She told him and the more she talked about it, the more frustrated she got.
"It's okay. I'm sorry. After the night in the station, I-" The sheriff said.
"I get it." She replied.
"If he answers his phone, or his emails. If you see him, please call me." The sheriff begged.
"I will. He's probably freaked out from all the attention. He's somewhere and he's fine. We'll find him" She tried to comfort the sheriff and herself with her words. They weren't working on her though.
The sheriff nodded and didn't looked very convinced. "And thank you for being here for him lately. He's been happier, and I think you've had a lot to do with that." He told her.
"Thanks. But the thanks should really go to him. He's been an unbelievable friend. You should be proud of him." She told the sheriff.
The sheriff gave her a weak smile and then followed the crowd toward the school. He still had to be sheriff in the midst of all this. She wished she could do more for the man but she also had a job to do.
"Everyone off the field. Players in the locker rooms!" Coach yelled and then began ushering the lingering people off the field.
Kinley did as she was told, and on her way off the filed, she told Scott that she was heading out to look for Stiles and that he had to deal with Jackson. He looked like he wanted to argue, but Kinley just turned away and yelled back, "I know where Stiles is." She then left and went to her car without another word.
As she got to her car, she saw Stiles' jeep was still in the parking lot, which meant he was either still at school or what she thought really happened, he was taken. With her luck and the way tonight went, she knew it was the later. She could feel it.
Before she left to get Stiles, she needed a few things on hand. She walked around to the trunk of her car and opened its secret layer that hid all of her weapons; A trick she learned from another family she knew. She grabbed her crossbow, a knife, and a few amulets. She knew exactly who took Stiles and what she would need.
She was just about to pull out of the parking lot when her phone rang. She looked at it, hoping it was Stiles, but it was Scott.
"What?" She answered irritably.
"We need you back at school now. Meet us in the boys locker room." He told her.
"I don't have time-" She began.
"You have time for this. Trust me." Scott told her and hung up the phone.
Kinley slammed her phone on the passenger seat and turned around. She parked right in front of the doors that were closest to the boys locker room and then stomped down the hallway and barged into the locker room.
"What the hell do you-" She began and then froze. Standing in the boys locker room was not just Scott and Isaac but also Derek and Peter, Derek's supposedly dead uncle. "Holy shit! What the hell is this!?" She yelled.
"You know I thought the same things as well when I saw Scott talking to Gerard in the Sheriff's station." Derek chimed in and the insinuation was to Scott and not Kinley.
"I told you, you had time for this." Scott said to Kinley.
"You're right I do. Now do you have an explanation for the man?" Kinley asked Scott. She knew what Scott was up to with Gerard, but she wanted to see if Scott could fool Derek. Scott needed to learn how to lie and protect himself if he wanted to be an omega.
"Okay, hold on. Gerard threatened to kill my mom, and I had to get close to him. What was I supposed to do?" He asked Derek.
"I'm gonna go with Scott on this one." Peter added. "Have you seen his mom? She's gorgeous."
"Shut up!" Both Derek and Scott said together.
"Who is he?" Isaac asked and looked at Peter.
"He's Peter, Derek's uncle. A little while back he tried to kill us all, and then we set him on fire, and Derek slashed his throat." Kinley answered and glared at Peter.
"Hi," Peter said casually and waved at Isaac.
"Good to know." Isaac replied but still didn't seem to really get what was going on.
"How is he alive?" Kinley demanded.
"Just a little help from a red-headed friend." Peter said and Kinley wanted to ask more, but Derek spoke before she could.
"The short version is he knows how to stop Jackson." Derek replied and ignored her previous question completely. "And maybe how to save him."
"That's very helpful except, Jackson's dead." Kinley explained.
"What?" Derek said, completely caught off guard.
"Yeah, Jackson's dead. It just happened on the field." Scott told them.
Both Derek and Peter looked more scared than before.
"Okay, why is no one taking this as good news?" Isaac asked and looked dumbfounded at the two werewolves.
"Because if Jackson is dead, it didn't just happen. Gerard wanted it to happen." Peter answered.
"But why?" Kinley asked. "For what reason would you want your number one attack dog down?"
"Well, that's exactly what we need to figure out." Peter replied with an annoying sense of smugness. She wanted to knock the look right off his face. "And something tells me the window of opportunity is closing. Quickly."
"Okay, you guys can deal with that. I'm finding Stiles." She told the group and began to head out the door, but Scott got in front of her.
"Move." She told him.
"Don't you think you'll be more helpful figuring out Gerard's plan. Isn't that what you're trained for?" Scott asked.
"Maybe, but this time it's gonna be you because I'm finding Stiles." She told him.
"Isaac and I can find him faster by scent. We will get him while you work with Derek." Scott suggested.
"I said no." She replied slowly to make sure he really got her message. "I know where he is and I'm going to get him. Besides you seem to be the one with a plan to deal with Gerard, not me." She then gave Scott a knowing look like she had figured him out. Scott seemed surprised for only a moment that she already knew what he was up to. "So now if you don't move, I'll make you." She replied. Scott didn't move. "You leave me no choice." She was so angry that she just squinted her eyes at him, and he flew out the door and into the hallway. He slammed into the wall and fell to the floor. "Try to stop me again, and I will make you feel like you have nothing to fight for." She told him and then walked down the hall away from all of them.
She got to her car and Derek was already there. He must have run to get in front of her.
"Kinley, you know this isn't a rational decision." Derek told her. It was smart of Derek to appeal to her non-emotional side. It usually made all of her decisions, but not this time. This time, she had no control.
"I know but it's my fault Stiles was taken, and it's my responsibility to get him back. If I send someone else and they fail, I won't be able to live with myself. So just let me go." She told him and he stepped out of the way. Derek knew her too well at this point and saw there was no arguing with her.
"Scott and I will have a plan by the time you're back or at least Scott will have one." Derek told her as she got in her car.
"Thanks," She replied and drove off toward the Argents where Stiles was being held.
Kinley got to the Argent's in the quickest time possible. She didn't even park down the street like she usually did to hide the fact she was here. She pulled straight up to the front of the house and left the car running. She was getting Stiles out and fast. She walked up to the door and rang the doorbell and knocked. The security of the place would be too hard to get passed, so she decided to just get passed whoever answered the door. However, no one seemed to be answering. She pounded on the door repeatedly until someone finally answered. Chris was the one who opened the door.
"Where is he?" Kinley demanded and tried to get past Chris, but he stood in her way. He grabbed her arms and held her back. "Chris, where is he?" Kinley asked again and still pushed forward.
"Who? Kinley, what are you talking about?" Chris asked
"Stiles. Stiles is here. I know Gerard took him. Now let him go, and I won't have to do anything to hurt anyone." Kinley told Chris.
"Kinley, he's not here." Chris tried to tell her.
"Don't lie, Chris!" Kinley shouted. "I know he is because Gerard is too cocky to actually hide him. He wanted a fight and now he has one. Give me Stiles or I will make you do it!" She shouted at Chris.
"I think I would know if there was a kidnapped teenager in my house." Chris replied, trying to keep his cool.
Kinley stopped fighting Chris to get in the house. "Yes, yes, you would, and that is why you do know. And I get it. You're trying to protect your daughter." Kinley paused and changed her mind. "Actually, no. You know what? I don't get it. Gerard is a manipulative, sadistic bastard that doesn't care about anyone, even you. You know this, Chris. You've seen what he's done. You know what he's capable of. You really think that he's gonna spare anyone on his way to power? Because he's not, not even Allison."
Chris didn't speak, but Kinley could tell that what she said was landing even though Chris kept his usual stoic demeanor.
"You see it, don't you?" She asked. "He's been manipulating Allison ever since he got here. Scott told me how she was the night at the station. She was cold and unforgiving. Gerard is turning your daughter into a killer and what are you doing? Standing idly by while she becomes something not even you wanted to become. He's twisting her world just like he did with Kate, and it's only a matter of time before Allison ends up with the same fate as her. But this time you know. This time, you can do something about it. Because if you don't, you'll lose her just like I'm about to lose Stiles, and all just so Gerard can keep his power. Do something, Chris. Fight him. Stand up for Allison. Stand up for you." Kinley pleaded.
"Kinley, go home." Chris seethed, but there was a look in his eye that Kinley didn't quite understand. His voice was angry, but his face was pleading with her.
Chris shut the door behind him and walked onto the porch. Kinley moved back slightly, but only to give him enough room to stand in front of the door.
"I'm not leaving here without Stiles." She replied as she stepped back.
"If you don't leave here then he will die." Chris told her. "It doesn't matter what you do to get in. If you do not leave my property, he will die."
Kinley stood there, holding her ground.
"Kinley, trust me. You don't want to fight me on this. Go or he will die." Chris repeated and his eyes had that same pleading look.
It was something Kinley had never tried to do, but she wanted to feel what Chris was feeling. She wanted to open that door and figure out why he was acting so strangely. She focused on him and listened to his breathing and his heartbeat. Slowly her anger was subsiding and something new came over her. She felt lost and little confused, but very grounded. Then there was something else. It felt like she wanted to say something so badly, but couldn't. Something was holding her back, and it was causing her immense pain. Chris was hiding something, and he wasn't hiding it from her. He wanted her to know, but he couldn't tell her. She pulled herself back together and let the anger come back into her. Only she was not as angry as before. Some of Chris' confusion lingered.
"I am going to Stiles' house." She told him. "If I don't see him home soon, be prepared to deal with me and the wolves. No one is hurting Stiles." She told Chris and then stomped off the porch.
Kinley got in her car and drove to Stiles' house. The entire way there, she had no idea whether or not she made the right call by leaving. She could have thrown Chris out of the way and barged into the house. She could have shocked anyone she didn't want to truly hurt. She could have manipulated any guard to give her what she wanted. But there was something there when Chris told her to leave that didn't sound right. It was like he was trying to help her, but she didn't know why or how. She just really hoped she made the right decision because if she didn't, it would be Stiles' life.
She made it to the Stilinski house. The moment she saw it, all the memories with Stiles came flooding back: The few times she woke up here and had no idea how she got here, watching Stiles fall asleep in the weirdest positions because he refused to sleep in his own bed for a variety of weird reasons. She was fighting tears thinking about. She took a deep breath and got out of the car. She walked up to the door and knocked.
"Stiles!" The sheriff said as he answered the door. His face fell when he saw her. "Sorry, I just thought…" The sheriff said.
"No, I know. I would have hoped for the same thing. Have you heard anything?" She asked.
"Nothing." He said. "Come on in. We can wait together." He told her.
Kinley stepped into the house, and she realized how comfortable she was here. She followed the sheriff to the living room and sat on the couch. The mets blanket was still laying across the back of it.
"So you haven't heard from Scott at all either?" She asked Mr. Stilinski.
"No, I just got off the phone with Mrs. McCall. I told her if he showed up at the hospital to call me." The sheriff informed her.
Kinley nodded. The two of them sat in silence for a while. Kinley was having a hard time thinking of anything to say at the moment. She was barely keeping herself together.
"Do you mind if I check his room, maybe I can find something." She asked the Sheriff. She was really bad at just waiting.
"I looked, but you might be better at some police work than I am." He tried to joke, but Kinley could tell he was just trying to distract himself. "But yeah, go ahead. I get that you have to have something to do. I'm barely handling sitting here right now either." The sheriff confessed.
"Thanks." She told him and then headed upstairs.
Kinley walked into Stiles room. It was just as messy as usual. There were clothes and random papers all over the floor, his bed wasn't made, and his computer was still on and opened. She walked over to his desk and looked at the odds and ends there. She didn't expect to find any clue to where he was here. She knew where he was. But she looked anyway. She saw there was a picture on his desk that she never remembered seeing before. She picked it up and saw that it was a picture of the bowling alley they went to the first time they hung out. At first, she thought the photo was old an then saw that Allison, Lydia and she were in the picture. The three girls were in the back right corner, and it looked like they were laughing about something. She turned the photo over and saw a date and then the words, "First Date," written on the back. A tear fell down her cheek. From where she found the photo, she then found a receipt from the dinner he bought her the night he discovered who she was. There was also a small figure skate key chain there too. She couldn't look through these things anymore. She put the mementos back and walked over to his bed.
She laid down on the bed and she could smell him on the pillow and it eased her a little. Tears began to fall down her face. They were leaving a small wet spots on Stiles' sheets.
"Dammit, where are you Stiles'" Kinley whispered and tried to hold back tears.
"Right here." She heard a voice and turned over in his bed. Stiles was standing in the doorway. He was still wearing his red lacrosse jersey and looked beat up. He had a huge cut across his cheek, his lip was swollen, and there were small bruises on his jaw.
Kinley jumped off the bed and ran into his arms. He pulled her in tightly and she buried her head in his chest. Stiles slowly moved his hand up and down her back. And tears were still falling down her cheeks, but for once, she didn't care. He was home. Whatever she believed in Chris, she was right. Kinley pulled away and looked at his face.
"What happened?" She asked and placed her hand gently on his jaw.
Stiles filched and moved her hand away. "It's okay, I'm okay." Stiles replied.
"Was it Gerard? What did he do? Where is he?What-" Kinley asked in rapid succession.
"Kinley!" Stiles yelled and she stopped talking. "I'm said I'm okay." He said calmly.
Kinley kissed him and hugged him again. Stiles then led her over to the bed, and they sat down. He placed an arm around her and she leaned her head on his shoulder.
"God, I'm such a mess." She said and wiped more tears away. She knew her make-up was probably running down her face and that she must look completely over done. But none of it mattered as she leaned against him on his bed. Their solace was only brief of course. She was snapped out of it when her phone buzzed in her pocket. "I wish I could ignore that and just stay right here." Kinley said.
"Who says you can't?" Stiles asked her.
"You know I can't. It's probably Scott, and now that I know that you're okay, I can't just sit around with you even though I really want to." She answered.
"Please, just this once, ignore it." Stiles said and he turned and started kissing her fervently. He leaned over and pushed her on to his bed. His hand cradled her head and he eased to his pillow. They were completely entangled in each other.
Kinley began to get caught up in everything, but then she felt the buzzing again. "Whoa, whoa." She said and pulled away. "Stiles. What's going on?"
"Gerard wants you dead. He wants Derek dead. Why run into the inevitable trap? Let's just stay here. and..." He replied and then went to kiss her again, but she pulled away.
"I can't stay here." She replied and moved away from Stiles so she could look at him as she spoke. "You almost died tonight and that's not happening again to anyone. I won't feel like that again."
"Kin, you're never going to get it. I told you from the start that I was in this with you. But if you keep acting this way, I'm gonna lose you." He said to her.
"And if I don't, I'll lose you. Look at what happened tonight just because you're associated with me. Gerard kidnapped you, beat you, and then sent you back to me as a warning. What will he or someone else do to you next time they want to get to me?" Kinley argued. "I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to you or anyone else just because they know me. If I don't fight, I will lose everyone."
"God, always the martyr." Stiles replied sounding overly frustrated, and Kinley wanted to smack him herself. He stood up and walked away from here. "See that's the problem. You don't care about getting hurt. But do you know how I'll feel. I'll be devastated, and if you die, I will literally go out of my freakin' mind. You see, death doesn't happen to you, Kin. It happens to everyone around you, okay? To all the people left standing at your funeral, trying to figure out how they're gonna live the rest of their lives without you in it? Gerard wants you dead just as much as he wants Derek. He didn't tell me why, but I really don't care. You can't keep running off like you always do. One day adrenaline and luck won't be on your side." Stiles shouted.
"I know, Stiles. I've always know that, but I also just can't sit here. Scott and Isaac are out there fighting, and we're here in your room doing nothing to help them. How can-" She told him.
"I'm not the hero!" Stiles shouted and Kinley had no idea where that came from. "Kinley, I have been kidnapped, beaten up, and nearly killed several times over the last few months and do you know what that has taught me? That I am the guy who gets saved, not the guy who saves the day. If you go, I can't help you."
Kinley wanted to tell him how great he really was and how so many things never would have been done without him. He was there strategist. He was the one who always figured it out, but then she didn't say anything about it because she was selfish.
"You're right. You should stay here." Kinley told him and then walked out the door.
"Kin, wait!" He yelled after her.
"No Stiles, you're not the hero. Stay. It'll be one less person I have to worry about." She told him coldly. She knew that it would hurt him, but she needed him to stay. He didn't belong there, and if hurting him kept him alive, then she would hurt him. She then quickly turned and went down the stairs.
Kinley ran out of his house and to her car. She forced herself not to cry. She was better than the girl who cried over the boy she couldn't have and most of her other behavior lately. This place was making her soft, and now that even worse enemies were being created, that couldn't happen. She needed to be tougher, colder to survive this.
Kinley didn't know why she ever tricked herself into thinking that anything with Stiles would work in the first place. He was mortal and too good to have to deal with all of this. He wasn't meant to live the life she lived. It was bad enough that she let it last this long. Who knew when she would make a decision that would then make something irreversible happen to him. She had been acting selfishly up until now, and she wouldn't do it anymore.
All of these thoughts just made her want to get in her car and drive as far from this place as possible, but she couldn't do that. At least not yet. She had a job to finish. She took another deep breath and refocused herself. She got in her car and checked her missed calls. She had two from Scott. She took a minute in the car to make sure she was okay to talk and then called Scott.
"Hey," Scott answered.
"Hey, good news, Stiles is safe and at home." Kinley heard a sigh of relief from Scott at hearing the news. "Why did you call?" She asked.
"Oh, yeah we have an issue. Jackson's actually not dead." Scott replied.
"What do you mean 'not dead?'" Kinley asked.
"He's kind of cocooning himself in some clear ooze like substance. Derek and Peter are doing research. So far, they found that when Jackson wakes up, he'll be even more powerful and less easily controlled." Scott explained. "But there's good news."
"What good news could you possible have?" Kinley asked skeptically.
"Peter still thinks he knows how to save Jackson." Scott told her.
"How?" She asked. Kinley was willing to hear Scott out, but the fact this was Peter's idea made her a little resistant to it.
"It's risky, and we will need Lydia." Scott explained.
"Why Lydia? What does she have to do with this?" Kinley asked.
"The kanima is all about identity right? Jackson has lost his, and only someone he loves can help bring him back." Scott said.
Kinley thought about it. "He needs someone who matters to him make him realize who he is. They're the only ones who can get through to him" Kinley replied.
"Exactly, and the only person we can think of is Lydia. It's just we would have to bring her into this entire fight, and I don't know if we want to do that." Scott responded.
"I don't know either, but it's the only shot we have. We have to try. I will find her and see if she is up for this. If not, then we deal with Jackson how we have to." Kinley said.
"Okay. We'll handle Jackson 'til you get here. We're taking him to the distillery in the warehouse district to keep him away from the public. Meet us at there." Scott told her and hung up the phone.
Kinley turned the ignition key and switched on the lights. She drove to Lydia's house first, but Lydia wasn't there. She tried calling the girl several times from the car but still nothing. The girl apparently did not want to be found. Kinley went back to the school to see if Lydia was there, but she wasn't. She checked Lydia's favorite spots around town like the bowling alley, some of the clothing shops, and a small coffee shop as well. She wasn't at any of those places either. Kinley was running out of options.
She called Scott back hoping he might be of some help. "Hey, you find her?" He answered the phone.
"No, and I've looked everywhere. Right now I'm just circling neighborhoods in hope I see her or her car somewhere. I'm guessing you haven't seen her then either?" She asked Scott.
"No, but we've been a little tied up. You'll never guess who joined our band of misfits." He told her.
"Who?" She asked.
"Chris Argent. I guess he just wants to help us with Jackson so he's putting aside his differences for now. Derek isn't too pleased, but we need the help." Scott replied.
Kinley couldn't help but be a little pleased with Chris pitching in. She must have actually gotten through to him or he finally realized this was the only way to truly save Allison. "What should I do about Lydia though? I can't just keep driving and hope to find her." Kinley said.
Scott sighed. "You're right. I'll call Stiles. He knows her really well. Maybe he can find her." Scott replied.
"I really don't know how much help Stiles is going to be. He's really shaken, and he didn't even want me to leave. And frankly I don't want him to either." Kinley revealed to Scott.
"Kinley, you should trust that he can be more than you think. He's Stiles, he always comes through. Trust him." Scott told her. Kinley knew she could trust him, she just didn't trust the others that were involved. But Scott wasn't letting her run this. "I'll let Stiles know we need to find Lydia, and you come here and help us because if in the end we can't find her, we'll need all the firepower we can get. Your powers working correctly today?"Scott asked.
Kinley focused on her wallet on the passenger seat, and made it move into her hand. "They seem fine to me." Kinley replied. "Are you guys at the distillery yet?" She asked.
"Almost there. We're waiting for Derek." Scott answered.
"Okay, I'll be there in a few. Hopefully, Lydia comes through." Kinley replied and then hung up the phone.
She turned her car around and headed toward the factories. She still kept an eye out for Lydia, but the whole drive there, she didn't see any sign of her. She called her a few more times and still nothing. There was nothing left to do but head to the factory and hope they could come up with a better plan.
Kinley made the left turn that took her down the long road that led to the distillery. As she approached the large factory, she saw one car that was Scott's small sedan. She pulled her car behind his and parked. She got out of the car and saw that no one was outside. Where were the Argents, she thought. She headed into the factory and saw Derek, Scott, Isaac and even Chris huddled around a large body bag that must be holding Jackson. The usual large black Argent SUV was behind the group. Derek was over the body and unzipping the bag.
"Whoa hold on a second," Scott said to Derek. "You said you knew how to save him."
At that point, Kinley had reached Scott's side, and he gave her a head nod as a hello. The rest of the group didn't really do anything.
"We're past that," Derek replied and finished unzipping Jackson.
Scott's description on the phone earlier of Jackson did not paint a gross enough picture. Jackson was cold and dead lying on his back with his arms folded over him like a vampire in a coffin. His entire body was then encased in a clear gooey substance that was at least a few inches thick all around him. The substance looked like it would be wet to the touch, and Kinley did not want to test that theory at all. It also had an awful smell of something decaying.
"What about-" Scott stammered.
"Think about it, Scott!" Derek shouted and cut him off. "Gerard controls him now. Gerard has turned Jackson into his own personal guard dog, and he set all of this in motion so that Jackson could get even bigger and more powerful." Derek explained angrily.
Kinley looked over at Chris whose face was in shock and disbelief. Kinley understood the feeling. Chris knew what Gerard was capable of, but even this was more than Chris thought he would have to deal with. Gerard usually didn't play with the things he liked to kill.
"No." Chris said and Derek turned to face him. "No, he wouldn't do that. If Jackson's a dog, he's turning rapid, and my father wouldn't let a rapid dog live." Chris explained.
This did make sense for Gerard, but then why do any of this in the first place, Kinley wanted to ask. However, it looked like Chris had an idea about that already. But then none of them got an answer the question.
"Of course not." A voice said from behind them. The entire group turned and saw Gerard standing there in the middle of the factory floor. "Anything that dangerous...that out of control...is better off dead."
The moment Gerard finished speaking, Derek formed claws with his hands and went to kill Jackson, but before he could Jackson's eyes opened. Jackson sat up and plunged his claws deep into Derek's chest instead. Derek's eyes went wide with fear and pain. Jackson slowly raised Derek into the air and stood up with Derek hovering above his head. Jackson then threw Derek across the room and through a plastic curtain that was hung between two the factory rooms.
"Well done to the last, Scott. Like the concerned friend you are, you brought Jackson to Derek to save him. You just didn't realized that you were bringing Derek to me." Gerard said.
After Gerard finished speaking, the sound of an arrow whizzed by Kinley's ear. She turned and saw that Isaac had been hit and was now on the floor. Kinley rushed over to him. She turned around and saw Allison rounding the corner for cover with her crossbow. Kinley helped Isaac to his feet and brought him into the adjoining room. As she left, she heard a loud hiss and then gunshots. The kanima was moving against Chris. He was the only one with a gun. She then heard shattering glass and a then a growl that shook the room.
"You'll be fine." She told Isaac and placed him on a crate near a wall where he could lean his head. "I'll be back."
Kinley then tore back to the room where she had left the others. The kanima was now on top of his SUV. All of the windows had been shot out. As she ran into the room, the kanima took it's tail and wrapped it around Chris' gun and flung it across the room. Chris watched as the gun just flew out of his hand. The kanima then roared again and lunged toward Chris. Kinley threw her hands up and forced the kanima back, making it smack into the SUV.
"That was for Stiles." She told Chris. Chris nodded
Kinley then heard a different type of growl behind her that was then followed by another and another. She looked around and Derek, Scott, and Isaac were surrounding Kinley, Chris and the kanima, ready to fight.
Derek went for it first. He landed a few punches and blocked a lot of the kamina's attacks. However, the kanima got underneath Derek's defenses and scratched its claws deep across Derek's stomach. Derek stumbled back, and Scott took his place. Scott didn't last long and got thrown backward into one of the pillars in the factory. Isaac was luckily right there and didn't hesitate anything. He went right for the kanima's throat and took it down to the ground by its neck. However, the kanima wriggled out of his grasp by grabbing Isaac's wrist and twisting it until his grip broke. The kanima then took that leverage and threw Isaac back against the crates lining another wall.
Kinley was about to make her move when Allison grabbed both her arms and forced them behind her back.
"Allison, what are you doing?" Kinley screamed. Allison dragged Kinley from the room. Kinley watched as Derek jumped from the rafters and landed a hard hit on the kanima making it drop to the floor. Kinley struggled but didn't want to use full force on Allison for fear of hurting her.
Isaac must have seen what was happening because all of a sudden Allison was thrown off Kinley and to the ground. Kinley stumbled back and saw Isaac squaring off with Allison. Allison looked at Kinley and headed her way, but Isaac threw up an arm and blocked her. He grabbed her and twisted her around so her back was to his front.
"Go, I've got this." Isaac told Kinley.
"Just don't hurt her." Kinley told Isaac. Isaac nodded.
Kinley's words seem to make Allison angrier, but Kinley didn't care. She knew what Allison was going through, and she wasn't going to let Allison regret anything she did while in a wrong state of mind.
Kinley ran back into the main room of the factory and saw that Derek and Scott were losing. Derek was slumped over grabbing his chest which was pouring blood and Scott's hits weren't landing as hard, and he was moving slower. Kinley watch as Derek got knocked to the floor. He tried to stand up, but he stumbled and fell back to the ground. Kinley hurried over to help him. She slung one of his arms over her shoulder to move him away from the middle of the battle to heal.
"Kinley watch-" Derek started to say, but it was too late. She felt a blow to the back of her head. She fell to the ground and hit it hard. She turned and saw Allison looming over her.
"Allison, no!" Scott yelled. Allison turned to look at Scott for only a second before she refocused on Kinley. Kinley closed her eyes and braced herself for another hit, but it never came. She opened her eyes and saw the kanima holding Allison by the throat. Everyone in the room froze.
"Not yet , Sweetheart." Gerard said as he reappeared into the chaos of the factory.
In all the craziness, Kinley had lost of sight of Gerard. Now everyone was back in the room. She saw Isaac was lying on the floor behind Allison with blood pooling around him. Then Derek was behind Kinley slumped against the wall taking shallow breaths, and Scott was in between Kinley and Allison and the kanima. Chris was standing off to the side with a look of terror on his face as he watched his daughter dangle in the air.
"What are you doing?" Allison said to Gerard with genuine fear in her voice.
Gerard's answer was to look at Scott.
"He's doing what he came here to do." Scott replied.
"Then you know." Gerard replied.
"What's going on?" Allison asked and tried to get out of the kanima grasp but it was no use.
"It was that night outside the hospital, wasn't it when I threatened your mother. I knew I saw something in your eyes. You could smell it, couldn't you?" Gerard said.
Kinley had already put those dots together. She thought Scott had too, but maybe Gerard didn't know that. Gerard was dying. Scott could smell it on him the moment he met him. And they all knew what Gerard wanted. He wanted the bite because it could cure him, and Scott was going to get Derek to do it.
"He's dying?" Isaac questioned.
"I am. I have been for a while now. Unfortunately, science doesn't have a cure for cancer yet, but the supernatural does." Gerard told them.
Gerard then looked at Kinley, which confused her. She would have sworn he wanted the bite from Derek.
"You monster." Chris seethed at his father.
"Not yet." Gerard replied with a mischievous smile.
"What are you doing!?" Allison yelled and the kanima clamped more around her throat to keep her quiet.
"You'll kill her too?" Chris asked about his daughter who was gasping for breath now from the kanima's tight grip around her throat.
"When it comes to survival, I'd kill my own son!" Gerard roared and Kinley saw Chris face twist into something that looked like more than hatred.
"Scott bring me the girl." Gerard told him and then pointed at Kinley
"What!? That wasn't the deal. I said I would help you get the bite and nothing else." Scott replied and stepped in front of Kinley.
"Well, that was always plan B if my suspicions weren't proven, but oh were they proven here tonight. See Scott, I orchestrated all of this to put that girl behind you in a state where she had to use her powers to save her friends regardless of who might see. I knew that if she didn't use them that I was mistaken in her identity, but I'm not. She is the daughter."
"I've said it before, I am not Chris' daughter." Kinley yelled from behind Scott. Scott had refused to move from in front of her.
"Of course you're not my son's daughter. He would never create such a vile thing! No, you are one of the daughters. A daughter of the Morrigan. I swore that none of you were left, but then I met your mother all those years ago, and I thought just maybe that I had found one, but your mother hid herself too well. I could never prove it. And then my son just happens upon that woman's daughter here in Beacon Hills. Certainly, I would be curious to see if you possibly possessed the gifts she had hidden. Then the night I found you wandering around the factories, I knew. You see, the Morrigan have a distinct tell when using their powers. Their eyes glow a bright green. That night when I grabbed you around the throat, your eyes showed that glint of green. I knew then what you were, but I needed to see you use your powers to truly believe it. And tonight you have shown me that and that you are more powerful than I ever imagined. That is why I no longer need some measly werewolf bite. Now, I can mix our blood, and be more powerful than any enemy I have ever faced!" Gerard roared with a maniacal laugh.
Kinley took a step back. The way Gerard was looking at her now made her want to run. His eyes were fixed on her like predator about to bounce on its prey. Her hands were shaking and she was trying to make it stop, but every time she looked up at Gerard it got worse.
"Scott, will you do the honors." Gerard said.
"I didn't agree to this." Scott repeated and his breaths were getting quicker from nerves.
"Then Allison dies." Gerard said and he looked at the kanima. The kanima squeezed Allison's throat more and she let out a small scream. Chris went to move toward his daughter, but Gerard gave him a warning stare. Chris stared pleadingly at Scott.
Kinley looked over at Scott as well, and he seemed to be in agony. He didn't want to give Kinley up, but he was in love with Allison and he would do anything for her. Kinley knew what she had to do. She stepped in front of Scott and walked toward Gerard.
"Kinley don't! He's gonna kill her right after." Derek yelled. Derek was still slumped against the wall, unable to get up.
"Maybe," Kinley replied. "But this way she has a chance." She then looked over at Allison who was still fighting to breathe.
"There's just no competing with young love." Gerard commented as Kinley walked toward him. "Right, Scott?"
"I had a plan." Scott said quietly to Kinley. "Just...not for this."
"I know." She told Scott and put a hand on his shoulder. "Take care of Stiles."
She walked up to Gerard. The smile on his face was growing more with each step she took. But it was not a happy smile. It was a very creepy and off putting one. It resembled one of a mad man which made sense.
With each step forward, Kinley wanted to turn and run, but her feet kept moving forward. If she was the only casualty from this night, the count would be a better than almost all their others nights when disaster struck. She was doing this for the people behind her. She took another step. She was now a foot in front of Gerard. He pulled out a small knife and beckoned her closer. She took a deep breath and a few more steps forward. She was now only inches away from him. He grabbed her wrist forcefully and turned her hand over to see her palm. He then took the blade and sliced a line down the middle of her hand. She let out a slight hiss of pain. He then did the same to himself, pocketed the knife, and moved Kinley's hand up to his. He placed the palms together and a white light shined out of them. Kinley had to look away because it was so bright. Searing pain started to course through her hand and then her entire body. She screamed in pain and so did Gerard. The light dissipated quickly and the two of them separated.
Kinley stumbled back and Scott grabbed her shoulders to steady her. Her body felt weak, but she could still stand on her own.
Gerard raised his cut hand in triumph.
"What the-" Kinley started to say and then the rest of them noticed what she was looking at.
Gerard's arm was being covered in thin black lines like his blood was turning to tar. Gerard noticed everyone staring and brought his arm down to stare at it.
"What is this? What did you do?" Gerard demanded.
Scott looked at Kinley for an explanation.
"Everyone said Gerard always had a plan. Scott had a plan too." Kinley said to Gerard.
Gerard then quickly stuffed his hand in his pocket and pulled out his pill bottle. He dumped the pills into his hand and crushed them. "Mountain ash!" He screamed.
Scott looked at Kinley wide eyed in surprise. "I thought the ash didn't affect you?" Scott said.
"It does. But I have protection from it." She then played with the necklace around her throat. "Gerard however, doesn't." Kinley replied and looked at Gerard with a sly smile. Gerard was now covered in thin black lines. They were not just on his arms, but on his neck and moving toward his face.
Everyone was looking at Scott and Kinley with confused faces. Kinley explained. "Scott knew what Gerard wanted. So when Scott told Gerard that he would help him, Scott switched Gerard's cancer medication for ones filled with mountain ash. So the moment he got the bite, his body would turn on him. Did I get it right?" Kinley asked.
"Exactly. How did you know?" He asked.
"I saw you that night at the station. The night when Derek overheard that you were working with Gerard. I saw you switch the pills. At first, I thought you might have betrayed us, but I trusted that you didn't. Glad, I was right." Kinley replied.
Gerard then collapsed to the ground. Black blood poured out of every part of his body. He made sort of gagging noise and black ooze erupted out of his throat. Kinley turned away from the scene. It was too gross to watch. The sound of gagging stopped and Kinley heard the man fall to the floor.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Derek asked Scott.
"Because you might be an alpha, but you're not my alpha." Scott replied.
It was that moment that Kinley knew that Scott would be more than an omega. He was a leader, and she felt proud to have watched some of his growth into the man he would become.
Gerard began moving again and Kinley jumped. Gerard forced himself to sit up. "Kill them! Kill them all!" He shouted and then collapsed on the floor.
Was he dead? Kinley asked herself. If he was dead then who was controlling the kanima? She looked over and the kanima had let go of Allison. Allison took that opportunity and then elbowed it in the face and escaped. The kanima fell back and covered it's face due to the pain.
Then all of a sudden the wall to Kinley's left came crashing down. Lights blinded Kinley as she stared at the tumbling wall. It was a car. Kinley jumped out of its way and then heard a sickening crunch and the sound of tires screeching to a stop. She got up and brushed the debris off herself. She turned around and saw Stiles' jeep in the middle of the factory and the kanima on the floor.
"Did I get him?" Stiles asked in a quivering voice.
Kinley walked up to the jeep and saw that Stiles had one eye open and his hands were clamped as hard as they could be to the wheel. Also Lydia was in the passenger seat.
"Stiles, what the-" But before she could finish the kanima jumped on the hood of the jeep. Lydia and Stiles screamed and then as quickly as they could scrambled out the passenger side door. Kinley grabbed Stiles and led him to the group. She expected Lydia to follow her, but she didn't.
"Jackson?" Lydia said to the kanima.
"Lydia!" Kinley screamed and went to get her, but Stiles held her back.
The moment Kinley calmed down, she saw that Lydia was holding up a small golden key. The kanima was fixated by it.
"Jackson's house key." Stiles whispered to Kinley. "He gave it to her."
Lydia must be hoping that it would help Jackson remember. It looked like it was working. Jackson's scales were fading away. He took the key from Lydia and then backed away from her. He put up his arms in surrender and Derek and Peter ran up and put claws threw his back and stomach.
Kinley couldn't watch. She turned into Stiles, and he put her arms around her. She could hear Lydia crying. She slightly turned her head to watch over Lydia. Jackson fell to the floor and Lydia followed and went to her knees. She couldn't hear what Jackson said, but she heard Lydia repeat the words. "I do." Jackson then placed his head on Lydia's shoulder and Lydia began to sob as he collapsed in her arms. Stiles pulled Kinley in tighter.
Lydia placed Jackson on the ground and walked back over to the group. There were tears falling down her face. Kinley let go of Stiles and began to walk to her, but then Kinley saw Jackson move. Lydia turned around and watched as Jackson stood up and became a full werewolf. Jackson calmed down and then Lydia ran into his open arms. Lydia did save him.
"Where's Gerard?" Allison asked suddenly since they were all watching the lovers renunion.
"He can't be too far." Chris replied.
Kinley walked back to Stiles and wrapped her arms around him. "You're here." She said to him.
"I told you. You're stuck with me." He said and smiled and she smiled back.
"Whether I like it or not?" She answered him and he just nodded.
The next few days were calm. Derek began giving Jackson the 411 on how to control his werewolf abilities, Isaac was hanging around with them more, and Kinley was deciding what her next step was. She thought about it a lot over those last few days, and she finally knew what she needed to do, which was why she ended up at the animal clinic.
She walked up to Deaton's office door and knocked.
"Come in." Deaton said.
She opened the door and walked into the cluttered office.
"Kinley, how can I help you?" Deaton asked.
"I'm leaving." She told him. Deaton didn't look surprised and just offered her a seat. "As you know, I sort of know what I am now, A Daughter of the Morrigan, which in this century means, who knows, except that I will be hunted for my power. And I can't have that happen here...to the people here. I can't make them sacrifice themselves like that. So I need to find a way to live with this on my own before I settle anywhere. But I also know that some will not let me leave as easily as others. So I was wondering if there is any type of something that could make people forget." She explained.
"Like a memory potion, so to speak?" Deaton clarified.
"Yes, but when you say 'potion' it just sounds so unrealistic and kind of ridiculous." Kinley replied.
Deaton laughed. "I think I do have something, but I don't think that is necessary. Talk to the boy, he will understand." He replied. "I know you fear what he might say or do, but you should trust that he can handle your decision."
"I do..trust...I just." She answered. "I just don't want people targeting him after I'm gone. The less he remembers of me the better. And this will also making going and staying gone a lot easier for me." She explained.
"IRight, it will be easier for you. Not necessarily for him, Kinley. Messing with the mind can do unknown things to a person. It shouldn't be done lightly. How about a compromise?" He asked and Kinley was willing to listen. "If it looks like he might be in danger due his association with you, I will give it to him. But if it's just teenage heartbreak then he has to go though it like any other human. Okay?" Deaton asked.
"Fine. But you promise to keep an eye on him. And I mean the slightest hint of danger and you make him forget me. Got it?" Kinley demanded.
"Understood." Deaton replied. "I know this is hard to do, but this is what is best and safest for him."
"I hope you're right." She replied.
Kinley then had a new plan to make sure Stiles didn't come into any danger, and that was to not tell him that she was leaving. It was one of the biggest issues Stiles had with her that really hurt him last time. She knew if she did it again, he would hate her for it and most likely never try and find her. That's what needed to happen. He needed to hate her no matter how much that would crush her. It was the best way to keep him safe.
"So where are you going to go first?" Deaton asked as she got up from her chair to leave.
"First...probably to my uncle and cousin. Hopefully, he can lead me to something whether it be other family or knowledge on the Morrigan. Then after that who knows. Somewhere I can learn to hide this and continuing living like I want to." Kinley answered.
"Well, if you need anything, you can always call." Deaton told her.
"Thanks, I will." She said and headed out the door. Deaton walked her outside and gave her a hug before she got in her car and drove off.
"Take this. You might need it to help along the way." He said as he released her from the hug and handed her a small bottle. "It's just a cloaking charm for the places you stay. I don't want you up all night worrying about anything. You'll need to be at full strength to deal with what's coming.
"Thanks." She said and then left the clinic.
That night Kinley prepared everything for her departure. She told Lydia she was leaving and thanked her mother for allowing her to stay. She wrote a letter to Stiles for Scott to give him later after she had been gone long enough. She tried to think of anything else she needed, but she knew she was stalling leaving. So she packed up her bags and got in the car. Her one stop for the night was the McCall house.
She stood at their front door for a minute, not wanting to knock. She forced her hand up and knocked on the door. "Hey Scott," She said when he opened the door.
"What are you doing here?" He asked and looked around behind for anything dangerous.
"I need a favor." She answered.
"Oh okay," He replied and eased up a bit. He then gestured for her to come inside. They sat in his living room and she explained everything to him about how she was leaving, Stiles, and what she was doing next. The whole time she had the letter she wanted him to give to Stiles clenched in his hand.
"In a few months, give him the letter. By then, it shouldn't really matter that I left and then he can know why." She asked. "I just can't risk him doing anything rash when I leave. I need him to think I just left with no thought to anyone. He'll probably hate me and that's a good thing." She explained.
"Do you really have to do this?" Scott asked as he held the letter. "We can help you." He said.
"I've thought a lot about it, and this is best. Hopefully, one day, things will calm down, but for now, this is what I need to do. I think you can respect that." She replied and Scott nodded. "I'll be leaving tomorrow night. I have someone else I need to talk to and then I'm gone. I need to get out of here as quickly as possible...before I change my mind." Scott nodded again. "Thanks for this." She told him and started to get up to leave.
"Thank you. I don't think we would have survived these last few months without you." He told her and then gave her a hug.
"Stay safe." Kinley replied.
"You too." Scott said.
Kinley walked out the door and tears began running down her cheeks. In the next few hours, the only guy she ever loved would hate her. She knew it was for the best, but she was still fighting every urge to run over to the Stilinski house and just be with him one more time before that happened. She didn't. Instead, she went to the place she least wanted to go. The Argents.
She got there and rang the doorbell. Chris answered. "Allison isn't really up for visitors." He told her. "She just broke up with Scott yesterday."
"You know, I'm not here to see her." Kinley replied and Chris nodded and led her to the living room.
They sat just as they did the day Chris told her the story of her mother and him.
"I wanted to tell you that I'm leaving." Kinley said.
Chris nodded. "Are you sure? With Gerard gone, you'll be safer here."
"I don't think we can be sure he's gone, but it doesn't matter. I was told a power like mine is like a beacon. I will draw much worse things here than anyone has seen yet, and I can't do that to anyone. I'll be on the road, trying to figure all of this out. Once I do, I might be back. But I just have one question for you before I go." Kinley replied.
"No, I didn't know my father knew what you were. If I did I would have told you." Chris answered without her even having to ask a question.
Kinley nodded. "Do you know anything about the Morrigan?" She asked.
"Not much." He replied. "My father always told the story like a fable. It begins with the story of the green-eyed girl." Chris said.
"I know that one." Kinley replied.
"Well that was the first Morrigan to regain her power, and start a line of new and more powerful Tuatha de Dannan. It was said that the Morrigan's of the past abused their power. So the power was taken from them. Have you ever heard of Morgan Le Fey?"
"Like from the Arthurian legend?" She asked.
"Exactly. Even we as hunters think that's a myth, but if you're truly one of the Morrigan, you are a descendent of Morgan Le Fey. She however abused her power, and it wasn't until the green-eyed girl that her line's power was restored." Chris explained. "It's possible that no one in your line showed promise with the power, and that it wasn't until your mother that it was awakened in the two of you. Or there could be more to the story. I'm guessing you'll be looking into that." Chris asked.
"I will. You know how it is for hunters. It's 80 percent research and 20 percent fighting for your life. Most of this trip will probably be learning and researching. I need to know what I can do and who will be after me before I decide whether I can stay somewhere with people that I care about. Once I know that, I'll have options for how I want to live." She replied.
"Stay safe and check in." Chris told her. "Allison will worry." He added.
Kinley smiled at the man who slowly actually began to care for her. "I will and you too. If you or Allison need anything, I'll be a phone call away." She said.
Kinley stood up and walked toward the door.
"Kinley." Chris said and she stopped and turned around.
"I'm glad I got to know you, and I'm going to try and do my best with Allison. I want the Argent name to mean something else to other hunters from now on." He told her.
"That's good to hear. I'll see you around, Chris." She said and then walked out the door.
Kinley spent the last of that night driving in circles to her favorite spots of Beacon Hills. She went to the bowling alley, the burger place Stiles took her to, the forest preserve spot, the Hale house, and even the high school.
When she got to the high school, she broke in and sat in her world history seat. Who knew sitting here would change her life forever. Maybe if she hadn't run into Stiles that morning, she never would have had these relationships or connections. Maybe she and her family would have just killed Peter and left like they had planned. Of course she'll never know. She did sit here, she did run into Stiles and everything spiraled from that. And because of that, she would never forget this place.
It was getting to be light out, and Kinley knew she needed to leave. She made last stops in the cafeteria and the gym before walking out the doors that led out to the lacrosse fields. She walked towards the field and then stopped because she saw Stiles' jeep there, and Scott and Stiles were on the field. She couldn't risk Stiles seeing her so she hung back, but she couldn't help but watch for a minute. He really was a good lacrosse player.
She watched Stiles gather all the gear and head out to the goal. He looked happy. He still had that boyish glint in his eyes and humor in his smile. What happened over the last weeks didn't fade him like she feared it would. She was happy to still see him with all the energy he had when they met. She hoped with her departure that everything in Beacon Hills would remain calm and that Stiles could stay like this.
"Why don't you just get in the goal and help me to become team captain like you promised me there big guy." Kinley heard Stiles say.
It couldn't hurt to watch them for a moment before she left. Scott was in the goal and Stiles was taking shots.
"Now remember no wolf powers." Stiles told Scott. Scott smiled and nodded.
"Got it." Scott replied.
"No, I mean it. No, super fast reflexes, no super eyesight, no hearing-None of the crap, okay?" Stiles made clear to Scott.
"Okay," Scott said with the same smile, and then Kinley noticed his eyes turn yellow. "Come on." Scott encouraged.
"You promise?" Stiles asked.
"Would you just take the shot already." Scott groaned at his friend.
Stiles grabbed a ball placed it in the lacrosse stick net and then took a shot. Scott was so quick to catch the ball that Stiles knew immediately what he did.
"I said no wolf powers!" Stiles whined and Kinley actually laughed. Kinley then knew it was time to go.
She hated leaving, but she loved this version of him, just a teenager going after normal things like being team captain. At this moment, it almost seemed as if the last few months hadn't happened to any of them. Scott was back to no girlfriend, and no team to captain. Stiles was the comedic best friend that would help Scott though their crazy high school years. And Kinley was the outcast girl that no one would really remember even going here.
Of course, she would remember. She would remember everything she learned here with these people. It was the first place she fit in. The place where she learned who she was and who cared for her. The memory of Beacon Hills would keeping her going on the new long journey ahead of her. She hoped she could make it through without them.
Kinley got in her car and headed toward the highway to IL where she last heard her uncle would be. As she headed that way, she passed the street to the Hale house. The instant she passed it, she had to slam on her breaks in order to not hit Derek.
"What the hell!?" She yelled at him.
"You were really gonna leave without saying goodbye?" He asked her.
She rolled her eyes at Derek. "Truthfully, I didn't think you would really care if I was here or not."
Derek gave her a sly smile. "Don't think that you're getting away with finding out what you are without my help. I did make you a promise." Derek told her and then walked to her passenger side door and got in the car. "So hunter girl, where are we off to?"
