Carrying on from chapter 2 same POV's as last time. Just wanted to put on my adaption of what happened before the reapers hit the citadel since I didn't want all of the great characters on the citadel to just be murdered by the reapers. Shepard will continue her story and we will get Garrus POV as well. Sorry it has been ages from my last chapter personal problems.
Commander Bailey POV
Bailey unleashed carnage on a ravager watching as the ravager exploded, the creature's guts dissolving the escaping swarmers, Ezra shooting at the approaching husks managing to get a head shot every time. Damn the kid was good, Bailey thought. Ezra reminded Bailey of his son on earth. His ex-wife Susan she couldn't handle being married to a cop and he couldn't handle juggling the politics, family life, and his son. He was worried about his family back on Earth his daughter Meaghan: his sunshine she was only ten and had the biggest smile you could ever imagine. His son Jonas he never really forgave Bailey for choosing work over family but Bailey couldn't abandon the people on the Citadel and whenever he had time to go home something else came up. He did feel guilty and felt even more guilty now hoping, praying his family was safe.
"Bailey! Bailey!" Ezra was shaking him, "I can hear something in that apartment!" They sneaked over to the apartment its door swinging off its hinges crouching they surveyed the room. Two bodies lay on the floor as husks pounded on a metal cabinet. They quickly stabbed the husks as soft sobbing echoed in the room.
"Whoever is in this cabinet come out we're friendlies."
A child's voice whispered "No I'm only supposed to come out for mummy or daddy."
"Child, your mum and dad aren't coming to get you." More sobbing came from the cabinet. "My names Commander Bailey and me and my friend Ezra will take you somewhere safe." The door unlocked and a little boy no more than three or four, Bailey would guess. He had floppy brown hair as he clutched a hanar plush toy.
"What's your name?" Ezra asked as he came back from scouting the apartment.
"Ja…Jak…Jake
Petrovsky."
"Well Jake how 'bout you hold onto me…real tight now." Bailey looked at the bodies of Jake's parents cradling Jake's head so he could not see the gore that once was his mother he slipped the boy inside his armour that hopefully would save him.
Bailey and Ezra went along the rest of the rooms of the 23rd floor of the station killing reaper creatures and saving five more people- a measly number but the reapers were everywhere. A reaper's call entered the air, silencing the screaming station. Bailey knew that as much as he wanted to help the masses of what he considered were his people he could not abandon the survivors he had gather. It was time to put them onto a ship and get the hell out before a reaper blew his efforts to pieces.
***Some ten minutes later***
Bailey ran for the gates the reapers on his heels the citadel crumbling around him. Reapers creatures were everywhere; some reapers were dropping into orbit; their legs crushing hundreds, their lasers ripping through flesh and bone: the citadel a death station.
"Survivors! This way! Go!" A turian shouted behind the reaper hoard, Bailey smiled at least some of his men where alive. The group of c-sec officers, and civilians were shooting the creatures avoiding the reapers keen eye.
"Who is reporting in?" Bailey shouted at the nearest C-sec officer.
"I'm Anon sir; Rees, Rylan, Houghton and Balish are who are remaining on this floor." A reaper leg crashed through the ceiling shattering glass, a jaggered edge piercing a screaming woman severing her leg from the knee, her ginger hair mixing with the blood swirling around her.
"Call them in now! We have to leave now! Get everyone into a ship."
"But Rees team is over on the right flank."
Retreat now! I'll go get them and we will go in a shuttle. Don't lose these people Anon." The turian nodded and began to grab the injured woman placing her over his shoulder. Her screams turning to low moans as the medi-gel began to numb her pain, sealing her leg at the knee. Anon's group began to depart shooting cannibals that had begun to spawn near the group- a batarian Bailey noticed was stood frozen as his husked kin approached their gaping mouths open in a silent scream lifted up their guns and before they could shoot Ezra was there his last grenade saving the frozen batarian's life. Ezra nodded at Bailey as he helped the survivors into the docked ship.
Bailey spun around throwing his remaining grenades to create a path through the horde to get to Rees' team desperately hoping that he could get them alive out of there and to be able to get to his family back on earth.
Nelly POV
They just kept coming! A never ending stream of death approaching, threatening what Nelly considered her little group of survivors that had taken refuge behind a barricade. She wasn't even a good shot but you couldn't miss since they filled every nook, every space, everywhere. Nelly turned to look at Rees; he seemed so calm so collected even as he shot creature after creature he did not falter. He turned to look at her his mandibles flaring in a turian smile. He had been so good to her like he was her actual older brother; she knew he felt the same as if they were family. A series of small booms shattered the reaper forces as a man ran through the hoard of creatures. Nelly watched as he carefully aimed at the husks and marauders so that the cannibals abandoned shooting at them to consume the dead reaper creatures; giving valuable seconds for the man to jump behind their make-shift barricade.
Nelly saw Rees smile at the man saying "Thanks Captain."
"No need to thank me," spoke the man as he shot oncoming creatures, "Soon you'll have to thank me." Rees looked confused at the Captain.
"Get your people across to the shuttle I'll hold them off."
"But sir-"
"No buts follow orders son and get these people to safety. I'll give 'em hell." Rees nodded.
"Thank you." Nelly said to the stranger who was willing to sacrifice his life to save a few civilians. The man grinned, and spoke,
"It's about time I do some field work." He said as he pulled out
an M-96 Mattock.
Bailey POV
"Alright now's your opening- go!" Bailey watched as Rees team ran across the blood-soaked floor, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smile. He was a father of two children, he used to be a husband and he was the Commander of C-sec; and he would protect his family with his life. Bailey smiled as he released the pins from the multitude of grenades throwing them into the reaper invested pit, his m-8 avenger blazing as he took out a brute. Bailey turned around as countless husks had climbed over the barricade as he pulled the pin out of his last grenade he smiled as he saw the shuttle fly off. He knew he would go out with a bang.
