Suicide mission. The words rang in my head, gruesome images of James in his bloodlust flashing in the back of my mind. The enlarged biceps, veins bulging near to the extent of bursting, his menacing, blood red eyes which would stare into the depths of your soul, leaving nothing but cowardice in your system.

His strength and speed, doubled by the fuel of enragement.

I threw myself onto my bed with a loud, irritable sigh. The sound reverberated down the hallway, which would have alerted my family if they were home.

I unlocked my phone and was greeted by an empty screen. James had yet to contact me, after leaving me stranded outside my classroom for over an hour. I slammed the device down to my side. Frustrated, I curled up into a ball and submerged myself in my fantasies, a distraction I needed from all the things happening in my life.

An image of the last time James held me appeared in my head, causing my cheeks to redden. The scrunched up face he makes as he entered me, the sweat dripping from between his shoulder blades, his tanned skin, whilst steadying the rage of his thrusts, the way he nips and sucks on my neck as his hips stuttered to a stop.

Blood was rushing out of my head as the memory turned even more explicit. My eyes were still shut tight as I imagined James, hovering above me with a smirk as his hands trailed down my flat stomach.

Just as the cold, rough fingertips brushed against my growing erection, the ruffling of leaves came to light. The weight above me disappeared as light flooded through my eyelids, forcing me to blink several times before I could finally see without the black spots blinding my vision.

I glanced down at myself and was shocked to see the exact same pair of jeans and shirt I had on today. My bare foot was flat on the uneven ground, apparently clean and dry despite the loose dirt brought over by the wind.

It took me a moment to notice my surroundings, after being blown in the face countlessly.

A rather old two-storey house stood strong a few metres before me, despite its yellowing, slightly chipped walls, its windows stained by grime. The door was nearly off its hinges, hanging in mid-air as it continued swinging from the strong gust of wind. Everything within the house was covered in a blanket of darkness.

What… What is this place? I wondered, my eyes sweeping past the building to the empty granite road. Well, empty except for an old model of Ford that was parked a few feet away from the crumbling household. The ignition still turned on, and its engine rumbling just loud enough for me to hear with the peak of my hearing.

The red vehicle doors were all open, surprisingly with everything on its interior intact. My legs moved towards the car on its own accord, fuelling my curiosity when I noticed how clean, untouched, the seats seemed.

My fingers were already against the warm metal before I could even fathom the possibilities. I reached for the keys and turned it off, leaving them attached to the slot. I was about to step away when the wind picked up, as though eerily whistling into my ear.

Turn around ... I froze as I made out the soft, serenading-like voice. A chill ran down my spine, sweat breaking out on my forehead. I glanced back at the seemingly abandoned house, barely catching a glimpse of a dark shadow before it all but blended into the living room. Its ivory eyes shone and stared intently at me, its boneless fingers outstretched to me.

Come ... It whispered again, this time an angry red glow twinkling from its fingertips before the light streamed towards me. I gasped when the vines of fire swirled themselves around my body, each burn urging me forward.

I struggled against the familiar warmth, my voice caught in my throat as I desperately tried to scream out. The lights faded away when I was finally in front of the dark creature, its breath hot against my face. I cringed and tried to step away, only to find long, sharp nails dug into the skin on my arm, blood trickling profusely.

I cried out in pain and looked at the silhouette distastefully. "Let me go," I demanded through gritted teeth.

Don't you trust me? It purred, with a voice as innocent as an angel. Familiarity flooded through my eyes as the voice brought about a person to my mind. The shadow slowly took shape, as though stepping out to light. I gasped and stumbled backwards, the claws clinging onto me giving me no support whatsoever.

I was rooted to the floor, eyes as wide as saucers.

His side fringe was slicked to his forehead from sweat, his plump lips now dry and chapped as puffs of air left his lungs. He was bare-chested, his torso covered in dried redness. Wires were connected from every angle of his body and disappeared through the darkened ceiling.

The grip on me was still tight. However, the hands seemed normal; big, rough and calloused fingers were wrapped around my elbow. The elongated arm was shrinking to a human's length, biceps bulging.

What shocked me was the approaching brown orbs, gleaming with madness.

"James?" I croaked. I tried to move back, to get out of the walls imprisoning me with this creature. But, with each inch I moved, the distorted face of my lover approached me twice as much, leaving no space between us by the time I decided to quit my struggling. "Y-You're not real."

Am I, babe? He was sneering at me now, the hazel eyes shifting to a blood red. Too bad you think so. We're going to be inseparable now.

"N-no," I squeaked, my voice showcasing my weakness as I tilted my face away from his lips, my eyes shut as my body shivered in terror. "No. Stay away. No!"

I felt the telltale signs of my power shielding me. It crackled loudly as the James-demon-thing howled in pain. The nails were no longer dug deep into my skin, the pain evaporating as I felt my blood slide past the wounds and closing them.

He began slamming his fists down onto the shield, screaming incoherently. I curled up into a ball, biting my lower lip to keep from whimpering as the thumps became louder, the voice scarier.

It wasn't until a warm, sweaty palm touched me that I jumped from the shock, my hands outstretched as blue lights blasted the intruder.

"Fuck! Kendall!" the unnaturally high-pitched voice squeaked. I looked up from my position on the floor and was shocked to see a flustered Logan Mitchell flattened against my door. His brown eyes were filled with fear as beads of perspiration fell from his forehead. "God, were you trying to fucking kill me or something?"

"Hey," I managed to say before the brunette interrupted, mumbling things I couldn't catch. I stayed where I was, ignoring the raging shorty as I tried to comprehend what had happened.

Was it all a dream? That creature who took after James' appearance. Was that real?

"Hey, Kendall? Are you alright?" I looked up into my friend's worried eyes and reluctantly nodded. He took a step towards me cautiously. "Dude, you're shaking. And if those swirls around you isn't a sign that you're lying, then I don't know what is."

What did he mean? I wondered as my eyes dropped to my hands. It surprised me to know that Logan wasn't lying.

My whole body shook violently and thin blue lines circulated up my arm, enveloping my body with warmth. I closed my eyes and gasped for air, feeling the tremors ebb away with each gulp. When I felt Logan's hand on my shoulder, I knew it was succumbed; the craziness of my powers.

"What are you doing here?" I whispered, my voice slightly hoarse, using the boy's arm as leverage whilst I stumbled to my feet. He stayed silent for a while before huffing in annoyance.

"Well, genius, you were supposed to meet me during lunch but you didn't. When I found you after school, you left while I was talking to you!"

"I did?" I asked, shaking my head in hopes to clear my cloudy mind. I couldn't recall much after school, just being disappointed that James stood me up. Logan grabbed my arm and frowned. "What?"

"You want to explain to me what's going on? You've been unlike yourself for quite some time."

I shook my head and forced a smile, replying, "It's fine, Logan. Just some minor stuff going on."

"You su-"

"By the way, how the hell did you get in? No one's home except for me," I interrupted, shooting the brunette a playful glare. "Did you break a window or pick a lock or something, Logie bear?"

Logan groaned and rolled his eyes, his hands crossed on his chest. "No, you left the front door unlocked. I would never do such things!"

I burst out laughing. "Sure," I smirked. As if on cue, my stomach growled, filling the silence. I looked at Logan expectantly. When he stood still, I went, "I need food. You coming?"

Without waiting for a response, I walked out of my room and headed down to the kitchen. A smirked involuntarily appeared on my lips as I grabbed a large bag of chips, hearing Logan come down the stairs while mumbling under his breath. I leaned against the counter and watched the brown-eyed teenager cautiously.

It was then I realised something off about him. Logan looked nervous for some unknown reason. I was about to question why when his head snapped up.

"I think James is cheating on you," he said quickly. I arched an eyebrow at him, questioning his sudden accusation. Logan immediately began stuttering before he got a grip on his speech and continued, "I saw him with a blonde girl several times and –uh- well, they seemed intimate."

"Intimate?" I repeated slowly, lurching forward slowly as though to give him time to think his words through. It can't be real. "What do you mean intimate?"

Logan must've realised my hesitance. "Look, I'm not sure what's going on. But you and James need to sort your problems. I'm giving you a heads up just so you won't freak out the way you did when Jo cheated on you."

"I stayed at Carlos' place too late a few nights ago and I saw the two of them looking surprisingly close; you know, the whole arms wrapped around one another kind of thing. I thought that maybe I've gotten the wrong person." I listened intently, the knots in my stomach proof that I didn't like what I was hearing. But I allowed him to continue anyway. "I saw them again, just now during school. I heard James ditched so I went looking for you to talk to you about it after lessons ended but you didn't pay attention to me. I'm telling you the truth, Kendall, and I hope you guys talk things out. I'm not sure what brought it on but…"

Logan's eyes found mine and, for once, they looked upset and disappointed. The look that he gives us when we've done something to let him down. "I don't want to see the two of you going separate ways. Not when you still have so much about your powers to learn."

I frowned, the half-eaten bag of chips dropping to the floor. "But he said he wasn't cheating on me," I whispered softly, the pressure of the news hitting me full force as the crackling in my veins came forth. I felt the soft shocks reaching the back of my eyes and seeping through the pores of my skin. "He told me there wasn't anyone else."

"Kendall?" I could hear Logan taking a step towards me.

My eyes were stinging. My legs turned to jelly, causing me to drop to my knees as my ears began to buzz. I clenched my fists and hid my face away, my jaw tensed as I tried to calm myself down.

It took a few minutes before my body relaxed, the shaking of my fists reduced to stillness, the noises surrounding me hushed down to nothing. I could hear the snap of electricity somewhere within the kitchen. Somehow, without glancing at it, I knew it had something to do with my powers and sudden breakdown.

I looked up and saw my best friend, peering at me from behind a wall, concerned, yet frightened. He caught my eyes and pointed to my arm, which was surprisingly moist.

I looked down at it and gulped. Blood was trickling down my skin, tainting it red along with the side of my shirt. A pool of red liquid had gathered on the floor. I rolled my sleeve up to find the cause, and my breath was caught in my throat.

Right there, on my skin, were reopened wounds that I knew I didn't have at the start of the day. Wounds so deep, they seemed to be from small knives dug into my arm.

Wounds that I knew came from the silhouette that haunted my dream just a few moments ago.

A/N : Oh. My. God. This took so long to complete because I didn't know where I was going with this. I have a pretty good idea now, though, bc I had the time (due to the projects & stuff, I wasn't writing as much) to read through Electrike & see if I left any holes in the past 10 chapters.

Welp. Looks like Kendall's powers are going a bit haywire right now, coming on whenever they like. But, if you're confused as to why, it's bc somewhere in the past chapters, I've stated that Kendall's powers are linked to his emotions & actual elements (explains the kitchen part).
