I really appreciate the feedback and comments from everyone.
So, there was a lot of build up for Layn and that was because while, at first, Layn was supposed to die when I started writing I started doubting he should. I then started setting up the background and everything else so he could live and have more adventures. As I was writing it I started doing future scenes to see what I could do with him.
I wrote about five or six different things and all of them were really off. It felt so strained like I was forcing a character that had played their role already to keep going. Layn was resisting and I finally understood. Layn had one role and that was it. It makes me sad because I had ideas to enhance his story in the future like going to research about his past and figuring out who he was. I wrote a few chapters about it but nothing stuck.
I even did a scene where Layn was watching them as they looked for him and decided what to do. He was frustrated a ghost but nothing I wrote from that POV seemed right either. Layn is a tough guy to please. When Jaime finally saw him I had him relay messages through her but it seemed to take forever and in the end it tried my patience too much.
When I write I always feel like the characters I am writing about are whispering their story in my ear and I am working for them. This was, to me, the appropriate ending for Layn. I do respect the opinions of others and I am very sorry for the disappointment.
As A writer I have two options. I can write for everyone else and do what pleases everyone or I can write for myself and chose to share. I chose the second because I love writing but I know this will not always go over well with people. Look at Kelley's books. Not everyone loves everything she does but she writes for herself and you can see her passion through her words.
That being said, I am totally willing to do a scene where Noah and Layn do talk. I had started one but I wasn't sure about it. As a little bonus I would love to finish the original one shot and put it up. That way we can see Noah moving on and them both having a final say.
Thanks for all the support and love everyone. Comments, reviews and support are a writer's bread and butter. I would love to hear anymore feedback or comments both positive and constructive.
