Harry shook his head, "Let him brood over it Draco, your father will pick what he thinks is right for his family, he always has done" He let the sentence hang in the air as Theo, Blaise and Terence joined them.
Chapter 37:
-40 minutes later-
Narcissa had insisted they had to move the women's little natter to the more comfortable sunroom which allowed a view of the garden as the lights illuminated the stretching of the grass into the darkness. A recently lit fire providing the benefit of heating the area of the more comfortable seating arrangement.
Hermione somehow found herself sandwiched between the two women who were closest to Draco, while Daphne and the aforementioned pregnant Mandy shared another sofa, Minerva occupied the single chair located closest to the fire place opposite the settee Hermione was encased upon.
However Hermione had noticed that all eyes were now turned towards her as Daphne asked her a question, "How are you finding it living in Malfoy Manor, Hermione?"
Ever the diplomat Hermione nodded her head turning towards Narcissa as she said, "I am very grateful for the Malfoys for allowing me to stay, but I think it would be best if Rose and I moved to my parent's old house. Just to spend some time together and allow everything that has happened to sink in before any future decisions are made. We went back there but Rose was uncomfortable and asked if we could stay here for a time, I think she enjoys having Scorpius around to feel like she has a sibling."
"Scorpius informed me that he feels the same about young Rose even if Amando does spend his time here now doting on the young girl," Narcissa acknowledged which caused the parents to smile.
"What of you and Draco?" piped up Pansy ever the gossiper.
Hermione sighed, "We both have said that we have feelings for the other, if he wanted to I would make a go of it, but I think living together is going a bit too fast."
Narcissa who had picked up on the fondness in the younger woman's voice spoke again, "Do you care for my son?"
"I care greatly for your son, if I'm truly honest I would say I love him and have for a very long time. But loving someone you have been in a relationship with and loving someone who you care about are two different things. I've never had a serious romantic relationship with Draco; we flirted, we kissed and we had a balanced friendship when we were still at school. But now we've only recently re-connected and the feelings from school are still there. And I think I need that flirtatious friendship back for a time. I've always had whirlwind relationships. Now, I want to go slow. I want, I need to make sure before I jump into anything. It's not just my life I'm affecting but Rose's as well."
"So you would like this with Draco?"
Hermione nodded, "He means a lot to me, he has been my rock and I want to be there for him," she summarised as she stared at the Malfoy matriarch. "I understand that I may not be what you want to have for your son in terms of a wife or girlfriend, but I would hope you would accept that it is Draco's choice."
Narcissa gave a single nod of her head, "I would have to ascertain that my son feels the same way before I give my blessing you understand."
Hermione nodded her head, "He is your only child, I would expect nothing less."
Again Draco's mother nodded but it was their old professor who spoke, "I can confirm that Draco has feelings for Hermione, he is never afraid to admit it." The other women in the room seemed to all nod their heads in agreement.
"So whereabouts is this house your parents used to have Hermione?" Daphne enquired.
"It's just across the Wiltshire border in West Berkshire, just outside Newbury."
"Oh so Draco acquired it then?" Mandy asked innocently which caused Pansy to stare at her.
"I already own the house, when my parents died I became the owner of the property."
Quirking her eye brow and looking towards Pansy, Mandy said, "My mistake then."
But being the intelligent woman she was Hermione saw the exchange between the ex-Slytherins and immediately queried it, "What do the pair of you know?"
"I think you should ask Draco." Pansy replied as she stared daggers at Mandy.
Hermione shook her head, "No, I want the pair of you to tell me what is going on." Staring at Pansy as she said it she glanced once at Mandy before looking back at Pansy. "Pansy. Please."
"Granger it's not for me to tell you."
"He told me he would keep me informed at all times." Hermione's voice took on a hurt tone which pulled at Mandy's heartstrings.
"It was my Theo who brou-" a crashing noise from the side of Hermione snapped everyone's attention to Narcissa who while attempting to lift a silver service tray at the side of them had dropped it unceremoniously onto the floor, spilling the contents onto the dark green rug and was currently hunched over holding at her chest.
"Narcissa. Mrs Malfoy!?" The other women in the room shouted at once rushing to her aid.
"Lie her on the floor." Daphne instructed as she crouched at Narcissa's side, "Move the furniture away to get some space around her."
"I'll get Lucius and Draco," Pansy announced being the one most familiar with the layout of the house and knowing the easiest way to get to the den where the men were entertaining themselves. She ran out of the room as fast as her heels would allow as Hermione knelt at Narcissa's side to help Daphne. Minerva charmed the furniture to the edges of the room.
-DMDM-
The men threw their heads back as they laughed at Blaise's description of Katie the 'buxom' raven haired beauty who had been harassing his office in order to get information out of him regarding Draco and Hermione's relationship. "She's one knut short of a sickle that one." Blaise summarised as he proceeded to show the relationship between her brain size and her breast size with a simple hand gesture.
And that was the scene Pansy barged in on, scanning from her husband to the two platinum haired men in the room, "Lucius, Draco you have to come quick, it's Narcissa!"
Seconds later the sunroom doors burst open as Lucius ran full pelt through them rushing to his wife's side, Draco not seconds behind him as he took up the other side of his Mother.
"Mr Malfoy, Draco, I need to be able to get to help her," Daphne hissed as she attempted to aid the matriarch.
"I have never purposefully left her side in thirty seven years of marriage and I do not plan to now!" Lucius huffed as he held onto one of Narcissa's hands, "I am here for you now Cissy, I am not leaving you." He felt her squeeze his hand as she attempted to speak. "Shh love, we will get you to Saint Mungo's as soon as possible."
As Hermione managed to pull Draco from his mother's side to allow Daphne to work, he spoke up, "I am coming to the hospital as well."
"Harry and I will stay here with the children," Minerva supplied.
"Terry you stay as well. You know how Archie and Samuel have been waking up at stupid times." Daphne asked of her husband.
"Mandy and I will stay as well, floo travel has not been good on the ol' nausea for her." Theo spoke up finally as Lucius who was holding Narcissa up stepped closer to the hearth's flame as Daphne stood next to him, Draco ready to enter after them.
As soon as the flames turned green the elder Malfoys stepped through the flames, followed quickly by Draco and Daphne. Lucius flicking his wand to get a wheel chair to place his wife into as soon as they were clear of the hearth on the other side.
When Draco stepped out of the flames he was an emotional mess, he was angry, scared and worried for the health of his mother. And as he got closer to the entrance desk his mood did not recede any when he saw who else was vying for the attention of the welcome witch on duty there.
"Do you know who I am?" the person was shouting. "I want the most senior healer on duty to check her over right now!"
Draco picked up his speed to reach his parents as his father calmly replied back, "Well I'm sorry Mr Weasley but we were here first, and this is much more of an emergency than your whore having a pregnancy twinge." The younger Malfoy was surprised his father could be quite so cordial in this moment.
The young woman nodded her head, "Mr Malfoy is correct he was here first with Mrs Malfoy."
Ron slammed his hand on the desk. "I don't care! Are you not aware who I am?" he questioned again.
"Not everyone is as unintelligent as yourself Mr Weasley" Lucius snapped, "I am sure this young woman is aware of how low you are in social standings and is simply doing her job. We were here first."
"I am a war hero!" Ron huffed his face turning as red as his face.
It was Draco's turn to speak as he choke on a laugh, "You dare say that about yourself, perhaps people should know you went awol for a time?"
Turning back to the Welcome Witch Ron spoke to her, "I am a war hero. These people…" at this point he signalled to the Malfoy cohort, "Are traitors, death eaters!" He slammed his hand down on the desk again making the girl jump. "My girlfriend is pregnant, she has a life inside her, she should get priority over a death eater who is pretty close to expiring and would save us all a lot of hassle if she would just off it! Now rather than later!"
Draco could practically feel his father's anger rolling off his body, and knew he was seconds away from snapping so imagine his surprise when it was not Lucius who spoke but a newcomer to the entranceway. "RONALD WEASLEY!" Her voice was shrill showing her anger as her heels clicked on the floor from the hearth to the desk, "Don't you dare say anything like that ever again!" Draco's arm flexed at his side readying to punch the man again. "Mrs Malfoy has every right to get medical attention before Miss Brown." Hermione turned towards the welcome witch, "Please get a cardiac specialist healer here as soon as possible." She smiled sweetly before turning back to Ron, "You are not some high and mighty god who should get whatever he wants when he stamps his foot-"
"Hypocritical! Would you be saying that if it was you? And you were not shagging her son!" Ron enquired. Draco was acutely aware of his father muttering the correction of "Hypocrite" at his side.
"I would be saying that. They have more than made up for what happened years ago." Hermione snapped before squeezing the bridge of her nose, "And Draco and I are not shagging," she clarified quietly.
"Then you are a traitor," Ron declared, as if he hadn't heard the second half of what she had said, "And you" he turned to Lucius and Draco, "I'm surprised you care to have her kind in your company." Everyone's mouth hung open at the implication of that comment, except Hermione's. "We all know she is beneath us. A prude if ever I met one, anyone would think you were a pureblood with your virtues. I only stayed for your daughter."
"Your daughter. Our daughter!" Hermione shouted back, her anger resurfacing.
"At least my son will have a lot more going for him than she will, he will be a pureblood just like me." Here Ron paused his anger blinding him from the pain his words were causing, "Just like his mother. Not like Rose's poor mud-"
Ron was stopped by a wand being pointed in his face, the tip touching his nose, Hermione shocked as she had begun to forget there were other people around glanced up the wand arm to the Malfoy at the other end of it…
