Chapter Eleven: Trust Lost

"Would you go get Pipit? He's Link's best friend, I'm sure his presence will help comfort her. He might even have an idea of who could have done this to Link." Ghirahim made eye contact with the golden eyed skyloftian who smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, I'll go look for him. Do you need anything else while I'm out?" Groose asked softly as he got up from the floor dusting off his pants.

"No, I think I'm good for now. Thanks." Ghirahim smiled at Groose as he watched him leave Link's room.

Pipit was still moping around by the lake when he heard his name being shouted around Skyloft. He turned to see a rather distraught Groose looking around wildly with his hands cupped around his mouth as he shouted.

"PIPIT! WHERE ARE YOU?" Groose shouted again from the entrance of the bazaar. Groose suddenly stopped when he caught sight of Pipit and ran as fast as he could to where Pipit was standing.

"What do you want, Groose?" Pipit snapped at Groose as he came to a stop in front of him, panting hard.

"Pipit, you have to come quick. Something has happened to Link." Groose gasped for breath. Pipit's face went pale when he heard the panic in Groose's voice, goddess he knows.

"What do you mean something happened to Link? Did you beat him up again?" Pipit did his best to act like nothing had changed. Groose glared at him.

"I haven't done anything to Link, nor will I ever again. And I can't tell you out here, just follow me, okay?" Groose glared at him before grabbing his wrist and dragging him to the academy.

"Jeez, you're so pushy." Pipit grumbled as the red head continued to drag him until he stopped in front of a door way that was very familiar to Pipit, Link's door. Groose finally let go of Pipit's wrist and knocked on the door and waited for a response from inside after which he opened the door and walked in and waited for Pipit to follow. Pipit gulped before entering the room, evidence of what had happened a few hours ago still lay on the floor. He continued to stare at the scraps of Link's bloodied clothes until a voice caught his attention.

"Pipit? You are one of Link's closest friends and for that reason I decided that you should be here to help comfort Link." Ghirahim spoke softly jarring Pipit out of his thoughts. As Pipit looked up to locate the voice he was greeted with the sight of Ghirahim sitting on Link's bed with her wrapped in a blanket cradled in his arms.

"W-w-what happened to Link? And why is Groose here?" Pipit asked quietly trying his hardest not to give himself away. He grit his teeth in disgust, the thought of a demon touching his beloved Link. Only the slightest grimace of disgust crossed his features which went unnoticed by all but Groose who found it strange but said nothing.

Ghirahim frowned as he stroked Link's hair lovingly. "As I'm sure you've noticed; Link is a girl. She is also the goddess' chosen hero and… my… soul mate." Ghirahim tightened his grip on Link ever so slightly as he buried his face in her hair as he lost his composure, sobbing silently into her hair.

Groose cleared his throat as he stepped forward giving Ghirahim a sympathetic look before speaking up. "I was outside training when I heard a girl screaming in pain so I came running. That's when Ghirahim came running and blasted the door down and we…" Groose motioned around the room. "…we found Link in the corner unconscious and she hasn't woken up since. And we still don't know who did this to Link." Groose finished with a dejected sigh.

By time Groose had finished his explanation of the day's events Ghirahim had pulled himself back together enough to lift his head out of Link's hair. "Seen as the two of you and the headmaster are the only ones in Skyloft that now know Link's secret, I must ask if you can help me watch over Link in shifts. I'm worried that the person who did this might come back. And I don't want her to wake up alone if I leave for whatever reason. Will you help?" Ghirahim looked between the two younger males with a pleading look.

Groose smiled softly at Ghirahim. "Of course, I'd be happy to help you guys." Groose then turned to look at Pipit who seemed to be lost in thought. "Hey, Pipit, you okay man?" Groose waved his hand in front of Pipit's face.

"I-I… have to go on patrol tonight… I can help tomorrow…" Pipit muttered as he shuffled over to the door.

"Thank you both of you. Groose, are you busy for the next couple of hours?" Ghirahim turned his gaze to the red-headed Skyloftian.

"O-of course, but what did you suddenly have to do?" Groose looked at Ghirahim curiously.

"I need to speak with someone immediately." Ghirahim's words were dripping with venom as his hard glare was leveled towards Link's sword standing in the corner by Link's desk.

"Oh, okay. Yeah I can take care of her." Groose nodded as he sat down in the chair next to Link's bed.

Ghirahim gently shifted Link out of his arms and on to her bed fully before covering her with her blanket. He bent down and kissed Link on the forehead before he grabbed her sword and headed over to the door where Pipit was still standing staring down at the ground. Ghirahim set his hand on Pipit's shoulder which caused the brunette to jump. "Link is strong, she'll be okay." Ghirahim smiled softly at Pipit. Pipit nodded silently before opening the door and walking out without a sound as he headed up stairs to start his patrol. Ghirahim shook his head sadly. "I knew this would hit him hard but I never thought he'd take it that poorly. I'll be back soon, if Link wakes up while I'm gone just tell her I had to talk to someone."

"Who?" Groose looked at Ghirahim curiously.

"Tell her I had to talk to Fi, she'll understand." Ghirahim's face was grim as he turned away and closed the door behind him.

"You know Link, Pipit seemed to be acting kinda weird. I wonder what's going on with him… He didn't seem all that surprised that you were a girl. I thought that only Gaepora and Zelda were the only ones who knew your secret. So he should have been just as surprised as me, right?" Groose looked to Link and let out a sigh as he scooted his chair closer to Link's bed and took her hand in his. "I don't know I just have a bad feeling."

Pipit made his way up the stairs to talk to headmaster Gaepora before his patrol started. He was startled out of his thoughts when he nearly ran into Karane as she was leaving the headmaster's office. "Oh, Pipit! I just talked with the headmaster and he said something had come up and that I was to take over your patrol tonight so you can go home and rest. I don't know what's going on Pipit but you look like death warmed over." Karane rested her hand on his shoulder as she watched him carefully.

"Thanks Karane. I guess I'll go home." Pipit attempted to smile as he shrugged her hand off and headed straight home.

Ghirahim stood before the Goddess statue and thrust the master sword into the soft grass while glaring at it hard. "Fi, I need to speak to the Goddess. Now."

Fi flipped out of the master sword bowing to Ghirahim quickly. "What is it you would like to speak to the Goddess about Ghirahim?" The sword spirit cocked her head to the side.

"Just let me speak to her directly now or else." Ghirahim growled at Fi as she simply stared at him.

"I'm sorry Ghirahim but…."

"I SAID NOW!" Ghirahim's anger caused Fi to flinch.

"Very well but she will be displeased to be so rudely disrupted." Fi bowed her head and was silent before her entire being glowed and she began to dance slowly as the Goddess spoke through her. "Yes, Ghirahim? What is so important that you had to abandon your quest and disturb me?" Her voice sounding bored and slightly annoyed.

Ghirahim grit his teeth angrily. "You lied."

"Hmm? When did I lie to you?" Fi paused in her dance in an odd pose that had her looking at him upside down as she bent over backwards.

"You said she'd be safe from harm! Then explain to me why I found her raped, bleeding and broken when I came back? In what way was she being kept safe? Well? Answer me!" He yelled at the Goddess causing Fi to flinch and moving away from him fearing his rage.

"…that was unfortunately out of my hands, my powers are not what they used to be." The Goddess' voice was soft as she replied to Ghirahim's demands. "Nothing can be done for her now, it's up to her if she ever wakes up or simply shuts down for good. I will give you some time alone with her until she wakes…if she wakes. After that you must continue your quest."

"We will talk after she wakes up. I need to go back to her now. Fi, please return to your sword, Link would not appreciate me leaving her blade out here like this." Ghirahim said darkly. Fi nodded and quickly flipped back into her sword not wanting to anger the other sword spirit. Ghirahim grabbed the master sword and left.

By time Pipit made it back home he had completely broken down and was openly sobbing when he opened the door. Mallara turned to greet her son but stopped when she saw the tears flowing down his face. "…Pippy…what's wrong?" She rushed to his side as his legs gave out under him. He collapsed into her arms shaking.

"I-I…I did something horrible…I-I hurt L-Link…" Pipit sobbed into his mother's shoulder.

"What did you do, Pippy?"
