McKayla smiled as she sat down in the cafeteria with her lunch. Her cell phone began to ring causing her to jump slightly. After glancing at the caller ID she realized it was Kai's friend's Jordan's mother, the one who was supposed to watch Kai tonight.

"Hello? Oh hey Jo…oh no poor thing, Kai was sick a bit ago too. Oh gosh I promise it's not a big deal, get that baby to feeling better." McKayla hung up the pone as Raj, Leonard, Howard and Sheldon sat at her table.

"That sounded bad?" Howard looked at his sister with concern having caught the end of the conversation.

"Kai's best friend is sick, he was going to go spend the night tonight since I have plans." She smiled at Leonard as she picked at her salad.

"Plans? What plans?" Howard noticed the smile and glanced at Leonard nervously. "If you really need a babysitter I wouldn't mind coming over to watch Kai while you go out and do whatever it is you're planning on doing." Howard watched his sister's reaction nervously.

"Okay you nosey ass, I have dinner plans with Leonard. Since you're offering, yes you can babysit Kai in my apartment since you think I'm going to go out and whore up the town." McKayla's voice was harsh as she abruptly stood up, taking her lunch with her as she marched out of the room to her office.

Howard turned his attention to Leonard as he suddenly became very interested in his food. Raj looked from Howard to Leonard nervously as Sheldon seemed lost in his own world.

"So…not only does your robot roommate take a shot at my sister you've decided you want a turn too?" Howard practically growled as Leonard sighed.

"I'm not taking a 'shot' at your sister" Leonard placed his fork down as he met Howard's gaze. "I want to get to know her. She's smart, talented and attractive I would like to meet the human that has survived being related to you for this long." Leonard watched Howard's expression as he relaxed a little.

"Fine, you get one chance to show that you're not going to hurt her, one chance Leonard. So help me, if you hurt my baby sister….I'll snap you in half." Howard glared at Leonard, attempting to sound threatening.

"Okay Howard." Leonard smiled as Howard shook his head and looked at Raj, who looked like he was enjoying a great show.

After the day was finished McKayla left the university to pick up Kai before heading home. She smiled as Kai handed her the work he had done at school that day, before he settled down in front of the TV with his favorite super hero coloring book and crayons. After a few minutes someone knocked on the door and McKayla smiled as she opened it, seeing Leonard.

"Here to cancel so soon?" McKayla joked as Leonard smiled at her.

"No, but I do want to change the time and nature of our date." Leonard glanced inside and saw Kai quietly coloring.

"ooh you said date, must be serious. What's up?" McKayla leaned against the door frame as Leonard focused his attention back to her.

"I want to take you and Kai out for dinner, then ice cream." He watched as McKayla's smile widened.

"Oh really now? You want to take my son on a date with us? I have to say that's a first."

"I want to get to know you, you and Kai. We haven't spent a lot of time around each other and I feel like building a connection before trying to date each other could help in the long run." Leonard sighed as he finished rambling, looking at McKayla, hoping she would still want to go considering they hadn't even left yet and he was already talking about a possible relationship.

"Okay Leonard, where did you have in mind?" She smiled as he relaxed, realizing he hadn't made a complete fool out of himself.

"Cheesecake factory seems to be Kai's favorite right? How about there then ice cream at the park? Something casual, so we can sit and talk if you want."

McKayla smiled as she nodded happily before she invited him in.

"Let me grab our coats and we can head out?" She watched as he nodded happily before she turned to grab her's and Kai's jackets off the hook beside the door. Kai watched her curiously, having heard the whole conversation he was waiting for her to tell him it was time to go.

"Come on darling. "McKayla smiled as Kai jumped up and ran towards her, putting his coat on and following the two adults out the door.
