Shade's POV
Everything was cold and dark. I felt groggy and sluggish as if a thick fog was blocking my mind from concentrating properly. I tried to push through it but the fog was too thick and seemed to extend into forever.
As I struggled to overcome the darkness I heard a deep and vaguely familiar voice fill my head "time runs short, you must awaken. You must awaken now!"
I felt a powerful force flood into my head pushing me past the fog and urging me to wake up. I gasped as I regained consciousness and quickly looked around to see where I was.
I was in a pod container with my hands and feet restrained in opposite corners so I couldn't move. Robin, KF, and Aqualad were confined in similar looking pods with their hands and feet restrained as well. Wally and I were in the middle with Robin to my left and Aqualad on Wally's right. Superboy stared at us while standing on the floor in front of our chambers silently.
"He must be guarding us," I thought as I looked up to evaluate the efficiency of my restraints. I sighed once I'd gotten a good look at them. They were advanced, high-tech, and secure, it would take time to pick these.
"What? What do you want? Quit staring you're creeping me out!" Wally yelled at Superboy.
"Uh, KF, how about we not tick off the guy who can fry us with a look?" Robin advised.
"Yeah KF" I agreed, "shut up, calm down, and be quite for once in your life."
"Calm down! CALM DOWN! In case you haven't noticed Shade we're locked up in pods miles beneath the ground in a secret evil genetics lab filled with weird experiment creatures who are all practically living weapons and on top of all that Mr. tall, built, and creepy is staring at me and it's creeping me out!" he yelled thrashing around as much as the restraints would allow him to, which wasn't much.
KF hated being confined, he's a speedster, and if theirs one thing all speedsters hate it's being unable to run or move around freely.
I rolled my eyes and turned to Superboy putting a large smile on my face. "Hi" I said friendly "I would wave or shake your hand, but that's a little difficult at the moment" I said laughing softly.
His eyes moved to me but he didn't respond so I continued.
"You know we only wanted to help you, we didn't mean you any harm."
"Yeah we free you and you turn on us, how's that for gratitude" Wally scoffed, but before he could continue Aqualad cut him off "Kid, please be quiet now. I believe our new friend was not in full control of his actions."
Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Robin pulling out his lock pick from his glove and started picking his restraints.
I tried to use my powers to break mine but my mind was still foggy from the mind blast and my elemental powers were virtually useless if I couldn't move my hands. As much as I don't want to I have to admit these people are smart, unlike the boys restraints my hands were completely covered providing me no room to move them and access my powers. They must have known how my powers work prior to or they wouldn't have done this.
As I tried to think of another way to escape my pod Superboy started speaking "Wha…What if…What if I wasn't?" he asked softly.
"He can talk?" Wally said surprised.
If I could I would've punched Wally in the arm for being so naive. Leave it to KF to say something completely and utterly stupid in a situation like this.
"Of course he can talk Kid mouth, he's a human being just like you and me," I said quickly reprimanding him.
Superboy glared at KF offended by his comment and clenched his fists. "Yes HE can!"
"Not like I said it," Wally mumbled in a feeble attempt to defend himself.
Aqualad sighed and attempted to divert the attention away from Wally's stupidity and back to our current predicament "the genomorphs taught you telepathically?"
"They taught me much. I can read, write, I know the names of things" Superboy confirmed.
"But have you ever seen them? Have they ever actually let you see the sky or the sun?" I asked.
He glanced at me before saying that images were implanted in his head but he's never actually seen them for himself.
"Do you know what you are, who you are?" Aqualad asked.
Superboy straightened and held his head up high before blurting out words like he'd rehearsed this speech a million times and memorized it "I am the Superboy, a genomorph, a clone made from the DNA of the Superman, created to replace him should he perish, to destroy him should he turn from the light."
"To be like Superman is a...worthy aspiration" I said choosing my words carefully "but like Superman you deserve a life of your own, beyond that solar suit, beyond your pod, beyond Cadmus."
"I live because of Cadmus!" he yelled defensively, "It is my home!"
"Your home is a test tube" Robin cut in.
"We can show you the sun," I offered grinning.
"Uh, pretty sure it's after midnight, but we can show you the moon" KF put in.
"We can show you, introduce you, to Superman" Aqualad said but before we could say more Doctor Desmond walked in with Dr. Spence, the scientist Wally ran into early, and Guardian following close behind.
"No, they can't. They'll be otherwise occupied," he said grinning that evil smile of his.
"Oh I can't wait to wipe that cocky grin right off his creepy little face," I thought as he scanned over each of our pods before stopping at me.
"Doctor Spence open up the girl's pod" he ordered. Spence quickly shuffled over to the command panel and pushed a combination of buttons to open my pod, but unfortunately kept my restraints locked. Desmond walked up the steps leading to the narrow platform sitting directly in front of our pods. He walked across the platform passing Robin's pod until he was standing in front of my now opened pod.
Robin growled at him as he walked forward and gave him a harsh glare "you stay away from her you little creep" he barked.
Desmond ignored him and reached his hand out towards my face. I whipped my head from side to side trying to prevent him from getting a grip but I couldn't resist much since I was restrained and my movements were limited. He growled in frustration and viciously lunged his hand forward clenching his fingers around my chin tightly, painfully forcing my head to stay in place.
Robin continued to glare at Desmond and growled threateningly when he grabbed me. Wally struggled against his restraints trying to break free while keeping a vigilant eye on Desmond.
Desmond tilted my head slightly and leaned forward "you know I don't see what all the hype is about you."
My noise scrunched up as his breath hit my face. I didn't recoil because his breath stank; in fact it was surprisingly minty fresh. The reason I flinched was because of the fact that he was even close enough for me to feel his breath on my face in the first place. I'm all for close hand to hand combat but villains never got close enough to where I could feel their breath, never, I wouldn't allow it. So for Desmond to be this close when I wasn't able to protect myself was slightly unnerving.
He released me and as he stepped back I brought my head forward and tried to bite his hand but he pulled away just before I snapped.
"Why you little" he growled under his breath as I smirked in his face. He turned to Doctor Spence and ordered her to once again close my pod. She did as instructed and my pod closed with a soft hiss.
Desmond walked down the steps and stood on the floor staring up at the four of us before focusing on me again. "It's a shame you don't know a thing about how powerful you truly are. I'm still going to clone you, but my superiors have taken a, should I say...special interest in you and have given me specific orders not to kill you. You should count yourself lucky because if it were up to me I would've killed you already."
I looked at him confused but quickly hid it behind my smirk not wanting to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was confusing me "Aw Desmond you're not the brains behind the operation, why am I not surprised. You didn't seem intelligent enough to run a small house business let alone a top-secret genetics facility all by yourself. I'm surprised your bosses actually willingly left you in charge of this place. They must have been truly desperate or the rest of their good men were already doing more important jobs so they had to settle for little ole you. I mean come on, you let four teenagers waltz right into your facility and learn about all your secret projects before you even suspected something was wrong. I could run this facility better than you and I'm probably more than half your age. Maybe that's why you were a little slow to the party, we'll blame your incompetence on your old age," I laughed as his face grew red in anger with every word. Robin and Wally laughed under their breath while Aqualad just grinned.
"You tell him Shade" Wally encouraged.
Desmond grew tired of my taunting and turned to the scientist behind the control panel "prepare the cloning process" he barked.
"Pass. Batcave's crowded enough" Robin said nonchalant.
"And get the weapon back in its pod" Desmond yelled at Guardian.
"Hey how come he gets to call Supey an it?" KF asked.
"Really KF, so not the time to be asking stupid questions" I yelled exasperated.
Guardian walked up to Superboy and placed a hand on his shoulder but Superboy brushed it off.
Desmond noticed his defiance and walked over "don't start thinking now" he said as a g-gnome hopped onto Superboy's shoulder making his eyes glaze over.
"See you're not a real boy. You're a weapon, and you belong to me! Well, to Cadmus, same thing. Now get back to your Pod!"
Superboy walked out of the room and the door closed behind him with a loud thud taking our last hope of escape with it. Desmond turned back to Dr. Spence "do the girl first. I want her clone done quickly so we can begin her testing immediately. We'll see if she's still laughing then."
I growled at him as four electric poles unfolded inside my pod. They stuck themselves into my chest and sent waves of electricity through my body. I screamed out in pain as the electricity flowed through my veins while simultaneously drawing my blood into a chamber under my pod. I bit my lip to keep myself from screaming again, I refuse to give Desmond the satisfaction of hearing the pain he's causing me.
"STOP IT!" Robin yelled struggling to pick his lock faster and break free.
"Shade!" KF and Aqualad yelled as they thrashed against their restraints with new vigor.
"Oh don't worry you'll be joining her real soon" Desmond sneered as similar electric poles unfolded in their pods and started electrocuting them as well.
We all howled in pain, filling the room with our high-pitched pain-filled screams. This went on for what felt like hours even though, in actuality, it was only about a minute or two before Superboy broke down the door causing the electric poles to short-circuit and recede stopping the pain.
Everyone looked up at Superboy as he walked in and pushed Desmond, Guardian, and Doctor Spence out of his way when they tried to stop him knocking them into the wall.
"You here to help us or fry us" KF asked. Superboy narrowed his eyes at KF for a second before turning back to normal "huh I don't seem to have heat vision, so I suppose helping is my only option" he replied smirking.
Robin was finally able to break out of his restraints and hopped down from his pod rubbing his wrists as he walked over to the command center.
"Ahh finally! Lucky Batman isn't here, he'd have my head for taking so long." He pushed some buttons on the control panel and all the lids to our pods opened.
"Your head?! He'd have my head for taking so long to break these restraints. That mind blast made it practically impossible for me concentrate and if he saw how long it took me to regain my focus I'd have to go through hours of mandatory concentration and escape training! You and I both know that is by far the worst kind of torture imaginable" I said as I used my powers to pull out all the screws holding my restraints together. They broke apart into unattached sheets of metal as they fell to the floor allowing me to drop to the ground and land in a crouch. Now that the haze over my head, as a result of the major mind blast, was cleared I was finally able to access my telekinetic powers and free myself.
"Seriously, that's what you two are worried about? The whole League will have our heads after tonight!" KF yelled.
I walked over to KF and Aqualad's pods and used my powers to disassemble their restraints.
Robin walked up and looked at me concerned. "You ok?" He asked lifting his hand to gently tilt my head so he could get a better look at the nasty bruise quickly forming on my chin from Desmond's vice like grip.
"I'm fine; I'll be extra sore in the morning but I'll live, I've had worse."
"I know but I'm still going to take a closer look at that bruise once we're out of here" he said pulling his hand away as we all started running for the door.
Desmond regained consciousness but was still weak and couldn't run after us so he settled for yelling threats as we escaped "you'll never get out of here, I'll have you all back in pods before morning!"
"That guy is not whelmed, not whelmed at all," Robin muttered pulling out 4 exploding batarangs as he spun and threw them at the chambers that held our blood making sure they exploded so we couldn't be cloned.
"You seriously need to get over this whelmed thing?" I said as we ran.
"We're still 52 levels below ground, but if we can make the elevator—" Aqualad was interrupted by the growls of a group of g-trolls blocking the way to the elevator.
I flew through the group dodging their massive fists and tusks. Everyone was following my lead except for Superboy who instead decided to attack.
"Superboy, the goal is escape, not to bury ourselves here" Aqualad screamed as Superboy punched a g-troll making the hall shake violently.
"You want to escape," Superboy yelled as he threw a g-troll.
"Yeah, that's kind of the plan" I yelled grabbing his arm and dragged him away from the fight. Aqualad turned around and forced the elevator doors open. Robin pulled out his grappling hook and jumped onto a platform inside the elevator shaft with KF. Superboy grabbed Aqualad and jumped up the shaft expecting to have to ability to fly and was surprised when they started falling. I quickly lifted my hands catching them in the air and safely placed them on a platform by Robin and KF.
"Superman can fly. Why can't I fly" Superboy asked sadly. His heart-broken tone made my heart clench and I forced down the urge to smother him in a hug.
"Don't know, but it looks like you can leap tall buildings in a single bound, still cool" Wally said trying to cheer him up.
I looked up when I heard a loud screeching noise coming from above us and my eyes widened when I saw the elevator rushing towards us.
I threw out my hands causing the elevator doors that were next to us to fly outwards and we all rushed into the building just before the elevator could crush us. A group of genomorphs ran around the corner and started chasing us as we ran down the hall. Superboy started calling out directions but ended up leading us to a dead-end.
"Great directions Supey, you trying to get us repoded?" KF accused.
Superboy looked down confused "no, I don't understand."
"Don't apologize, this is perfect" Robin cut in smiling. I looked at him confused until I noticed the air duct in the wall and immediately understood what he meant.
"Great job Superboy good-looking out" I complimented flying up to the air duct to pry off the cover. "Who wants to go first" I asked.
"I'll go since I have the map" Robin volunteered. I lifted him up to the air duct and he crawled in. One by one I lifted the boys into the air duct; I went in last and followed the group.
We shuffled through the air duct and came out in a hallway on the other side of the building. While we were inside the duct we stopped for a second so Robin could hack into the motion sensors and lead the genomorphs off our scent.
"Theirs still plenty of them between us and out though," I mentioned.
"But I finally got room to move" KF cheered pulling down his goggles before running up the stairs knocking down genomorphs that were in his way. KF was running so fast that he didn't notice the door closing in front of him as he ran down the hall and couldn't stop in time to avoid it. He ran into the door and the impact sent him flying through the air knocking him flat on his butt.
I laughed as I flew over "smooth KF real smooth."
Superboy and Aqualad tried to force the door open but it wouldn't budge. I tried to open the door with my telekinetic powers but it was too thick and Robin couldn't hack into it in time.
"Alright boys step back," I ordered stepping towards the door. They stepped back and watched as I marched up to the door. I lit my hands on fire and started to melt the metal but the process was too slow and soon the genomorphs were closing in on us. I stopped trying to melt the door and put out the fire on my hands as Robin kicked down a smaller door that was near us and we ran through it. We ran down the hallway but were quickly surrounded by genomorphs, the g-gnomes horns started glowing and I felt a large pressure invade my head before my world once again went black.
While we were passed out Superboy had a telepathic conversation with Dubbilex and decided he wanted freedom. Guardian was released from the g-gnomes control and everyone that was unconscious was awakened. Guardian held his head in his hand "feels like...fog lifting."
"Guardian" I said softly as we stood up. He looked at us and this time instead of seeing anger consuming his eyes I saw regret and compassion. He looked like his old self, not a villain, but a hero "go, I'll deal with Desmond."
"I think not," Desmond said as he came around the corner holding a vial filled with a dangerous looking bright blue liquid in his hand. "Project Blockbuster will give me the power to restore order to Cadmus," he said as he drank the blue liquid. I watched in horror as he starting twitching in pain and fell to the floor. His skin peeled away and his muscles ripped apart as they grew expanding way more than was humanly possible, leaving a big, ugly, grey monster in the place of what was once Doctor Desmond.
Guardian charged at him but was easily swatted away. Superboy leapt forward and started punching Desmond but he grabbed Superboy and jumped through the ceiling creating a giant hole.
"Ok that's one-way to bust through the ceiling" Robin said as he pulled out his grappling hook. KF grabbed onto him and Robin pulled them both through the hole. Aqualad jumped through it while I flew up just in time to see Superboy get thrown into Aqualad. They detangled themselves and stood up as I joined the group. We all stood in a line shoulder to shoulder before rushing Desmond together.
Superboy and Aqualad simultaneously punched him in the face while KF got up under him making him trip and fall on his back.
"Learned that one in kindergarten" KF bragged before running away as Desmond stood back up.
Robin flipped over KF throwing batarangs at Desmond but they didn't do any damage. I flew up to Desmond and punched him in the face while my hands were on fire burning away part of the skin that was still hanging from his face. I spun on the balls of my feet and reverse side kicked him in the gut with my foot on fire knocking him to the ground. Using my earth powers I placed my hands on the ground and concentrated as I lifted my hands floating a large chunk of rock above my head and threw it at Desmond making him stumble into one of the columns breaking it.
"Of course, KF, Shade get over here" Robin called out. I flew over to Robin and he explained the plan. "Got it?" he asked us. "Got it," we confirmed and ran off to do our jobs.
Robin called Superboy and Aqualad over to explain the plan to them as well. KF ran off to distract Desmond while I started destroying some of the columns. I walked up to one column holding my hands out parallel to my chest and quickly spread them apart until they were each parallel to one of my shoulders forcing the rock in the column to break apart and crumble destroying the pillar.
I levitated some of the chunks of rock from the newly broken column and hurled them into three other columns causing them to split, crack, and break as well. I flew from column to column helping Superboy and Aqualad destroy all the ones Robin told us to. Robin drew an X on the floor out of chalk and Aqualad covered it with water. KF lured Desmond to the water and Superboy punched him to the floor on top of the covered X. Aqualad electrocuted the water and Desmond roared in pain. Once he was dazed from the electrocution we ran away from the man as the exploding batarangs Robin put in the remaining columns exploded bringing the ceiling down on top of us.
As the ceiling started to crumble I pulled everyone close and lifted my hands forcing pieces of rocks to smash together and connect creating a solid rock barrier around us all. Sweat ran down my face as I felt the strain of having to keep the barrier up so we wouldn't be crushed as the building collapsed in on itself. When the ceiling had finished collapsing I threw all the rocks around us away and fell to my knees from exhaustion.
"You ok" Robin asked placing a gentle hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah I'm fine, what about you, are you ok?"
"Yeah I'm fine" he replied.
"We did it" Aqualad gapped slightly surprised. I looked up to make sure everyone was ok, we were all gasping trying to catch our breath and we were all tired, bruised, and sore, but no one was majorly injured, so I'd call this one a win.
"Was there...ever...any doubt" Robin panted as he high-fived KF before they cringed in pain and grabbed their sides.
I stood up and walked over to Superboy "see you finally get to see the moon" I said pointing to the full moon shining bright in the sky.
We looked up at the moon admiringly when we saw a faint figure flying towards us and as it flew closer we were surprised to discover that the figure was none other than the man of steel himself.
"Oh, and Superman. Do we keep our promises or what?" I said as Superman landed. Then I noticed that not only did Superman show up but THE ENTIRE LEAGUE flew down to surround us.
"We are sooooo screwed," I whispered as our mentors walked up and everyone nodded in agreement waiting for the large lecture we were bound to receive.
Superboy walked up to Superman and lifted the torn piece of his suit exposing the Superman symbol printed on his chest. He smiled at Superman hopefully, but lost his grin when Superman saw the symbol on his chest and glared.
Batman walked up "is that what I think it is?"
"He doesn't like being called an it," KF whispered behind his hand, but not very quietly.
"I'm Superman's clone" Superboy said confidently. The League members glanced at each other confused while Batman narrowed his eyes suspiciously "start talking."
After we told the League everything we knew about Cadmus and Superman basically blew off Superboy, which I'm still furious about, our mentors walked over and I noticed that none of them looked happy.
"Here it comes," I whispered to Robin as Batman started off the lecture "Cadmus will be investigated, all 52 levels, but let's get one thing clear-"
"You should have called" Barry yelled cutting him off.
"End results aside, we are not happy. You hacked Justice League systems, disobeyed direct orders, and endangered lives. You will not be doing this again," Batman said in a stern voice. One by one I looked at my friends and by looking into their eyes I could tell we were all thinking the same thing. We nodded at each other coming to a silent agreement before turning back to our mentors.
Aqualad was the first to speak and he spoke with confidence and finality "I'm sorry, but we will."
"Aqualad, stand down" Aquaman ordered.
"Apologies my king, but no."
Aquaman stared at Aqualad shocked, obviously he wasn't expecting to be disobeyed. Aqualad continued before anyone else could interrupt.
"We did good work here tonight, the work you trained us to do. Together on our own we forged something powerful, important."
"If this is about your treatment at the hall the 4 of you-"
"The 5 of us" KF said cutting off his uncle "and it's not."
"Batman we're ready to use what you taught us, or why teach us at all? Robin said trying to make them understand our point of view. Batman turned to me silently asking if I was going along with this as well. I looked at each and every one of the mentors with determination and crossed my arms defiantly.
Even though I was looking at Batman when I spoke everyone knew this was directed towards all the mentors. "You've known us for years, trained us for years, if there's anyone who knows what we're fully capable of it's you. You know we're ready; you just have to trust us. If you don't actually let us out in the world and allow us to step out of your shadows how are we ever suppose to become our own person and be ready to protect the earth when you guys are no longer around. I get that you just want to protect us, but we're not little kids anymore, we're ready to do more and either you understand that or we strike out on our own."
"Why let them tell us what to do? It's simple, get on board or get out-of-the-way?" Superboy said with conviction. We all stood beside Superboy shoulder to shoulder, our silence showing everyone that we agreed with Superboy and were determined to win this argument. Batman's glare intensified but eventually he gave in. "Fine we will arrange something so you can all stay together" he said folding his arms.
"Yes!" we yelled fist pumping in victory. Our mentors each called out to their partners to talk to them individually so Robin and I reluctantly walked over to Batman.
We stood off to the side in an area hidden in the shadows as he silently stood before us. We looked up and waiting for him to say something, anything really, but he remained silent. Finally after about five minutes of silence he sighed and turned to Robin "you ok" he asked.
Robin nodded "Yeah I'm fine. A little sore, but otherwise I'm good."
Batman nodded before crouching down to my level and lifted his right hand to my chin causing me to flinch slightly. Batman noticed my flinch and narrowed his eyes before gently moving his hand to my chin to get a better look at the hand shaped bruise forming on the lower half of my face. "How did this happen" he growled turning my head to the other side.
I gently pushed his hand away "Desmond had a firm grip even before he turned into a monster," I mumbled rubbing my jaw. Batman gave Desmond a murderous glare as he was dragged into one of Hal's green bubble constructs for transport to Belle Reve Penitentiary. He turned away from Desmond and focused his attention back on me "did he do anything else I should know about."
I looked at Robin out of the corner of my eye silently telling him not to say anything. Earlier when we were explaining our mission to the League we told them we'd been captured for a while eventually escaping with the help of Superboy, but we didn't tell them about being forced into pods, getting electrocuted, and almost getting cloned; that bit of information was going to stay between the five of us. If our mentors knew everything that happened in Cadmus they'd probably freak out and go all mother hen on us.
I turned to Batman "nope, he just got a lucky grip for a couple of seconds, but I kicked his butt later on during the fight as pay back" I answered smirking.
Batman looked back and forth between Robin and I obviously not believing we were telling him everything, but he let it slide, for now at least. He placed a hand on my shoulder and since we were covered by the shadows only the three of us noticed the small smile gracing his face "that's my girl" he said proudly as we walked back to the rest of the group.
Mount Justice
It's been about a week since our stand at Cadmus and we were now at Mount Justice, the new HQ for Young Justice.
"This cave was the original secret sanctuary of the Justice League. We're calling it back into service once again" Batman said facing the 5 teens in front of him. "Since you 5 are determined to stay together and fight the good fight, you'll do it on League terms. Red Tornado volunteered to live here and be your supervisor. Black Canary's in charge of training. I will deploy you on missions."
"Real missions" Robin and I asked simultaneously.
" Yes, but covert" Batman answered.
"The League will still handle the obvious stuff, there's a reason we have these big targets on our chests" Flash said pointing to the lighting bolt symbol on his uniform.
"But Cadmus proves the bad guys are getting smarter. Batman needs a team that can operate on the sly" Aquaman said.
"The 6 of you will be that team," Batman stated in monotone.
"Sweet" Robin yelled.
"Wait 6?" I asked confused. "Did I miss someone because last time I checked there were only 5 of us?" I thought to myself.
Batman glanced over our shoulders and I turned to see Martian Manhunter walking into the room with a pretty martian girl around Superboy's age with green skin and red hair.
"Hi" she said shyly waving her hand in greeting.
I heard KF whisper to Robin "liking this gig more every minute."
He walked up to the girl and welcomed her to the team before introducing us.
"I'm Kid Flash that's Robin, Aqualad, Shade and Superboy. It's cool if you forget their names" KF said trying to be flirtatious.
I rolled my eyes and walked up behind him slapping him on the back of the head as I walked by.
"Ow! Shade so not cool!" he yelled as I walked up to the girl.
"Oh thank God! I thought I was going to be the only girl on the team," I said smiling relieved that I wasn't the only girl on the team anymore "Hi, I'm Shade" I said offering my hand for her to shake.
"M'gann M'orzz" she said shaking my hand as Superboy walked up. Her eyes locked in on his shirt and suddenly her shirt morphed into a short-sleeved black t-shirt with a red X on the front.
"I like your shirt" she said softly to Superboy and he smiled.
"Ohhhhhhh I see the beginning of a romantic relationship" I thought to myself.
Kaldur walked up and placed a hand on my shoulder "today is the day."
An Unknown meeting location
Meanwhile a group of villains were meeting to discuss recent events. An unknown voice spoke up first "can The Light afford to leave Guardian in charge of Cadmus without the g-gnomes?"
"We have subtler means of control. What concerns me are the children. We now know the League is willing to employ young heroes to do their dirty work," another voice said offering their opinion.
"Yes that is a dark twist," another replied.
"And what about the crystal" the newest member asked the group "we need the crystal in order for our plans to succeed."
"Yes, Yes we are aware of this" the first voice said, "things are already being but into place for that exact purpose. We will soon have the crystal in our possession and under our control, and when that happens no one, not even the Justice League, will have the power to stop us."
Chapter 2 is finished! What do you think so far of the story and Dawn/Shade? I'm trying to make her as realistic as possible. Please R&R! This is my first story so please go easy on me.
