Chapter XLI

(Bpov)

I woke on the day. Today was the day. It was hard to believe; it felt like I was some alternate universe. I heard my phone buzz against my nightstand next to my bed. I reached over to grab it. I saw it from Edward. It read only three words. "Happy Prom Day!" That was right. It was prom day. And the text meant I needed to get up because I know it was about to be a long day.

When I got out bed, my phone rang again. It was another text. This one was from Jasper, telling me he wanted me to get on video chat. I opened and turned on my laptop then clicked on the video chat icon. As soon as it opened, a call was coming through. I clicked answer. Jasper's face appeared. "Hey." he greeted with a smile.

"Hi." I replied.

"Nice hair and glasses." He teased. When he said that, one of my hands touched my haystack hair and the other one touch my face, half of which was covered with my glasses I put on when I wake up before I put my contacts in. I dropped my hands and gave him a look. He laughed. "It's cute. Definitely a good look for tonight." He added.

"Be quiet." I replied. "I just woke up and I haven't started getting ready yet. What's going on?" I asked, wondering why he wanted to talk. Not just talk, but video chat so he could see me. What was so important that he thought he should see me?

"Since I won't see you until later tonight, I just want to see you before you started getting ready because I know you won't have time later. And I wanted to say good morning." He replied.

I smiled. It was good thinking. I didn't know when I was going to see him, if I was, before tonight when he picks me up. "Well, good morning. I have to go with Rosalie to get our shoes. I will probably start getting ready when I get back home." I told him.

"Okay. Well, I don't think I need to get anything, but I'm sure my sister will remind me. I was thinking I'll pick you up around 7:30."

I nodded. "Are we going to ride in the limo with Alice and Peter?" I asked. Apparently, Alice was going too because Peter, the junior, asked her. She was gushing about how exacted she was to ride in a limo for the first time on prom night until school ended. Considering who her mother was, I was surprise this would be her first time in a limo.

Jasper gave a face before shaking his head. "No offense to Alice, but I rather not ride to prom with underclassmen." He answered. I couldn't help, but laugh. I guess I understand that. this was a senior night, I don't think we should share it with juniors. We were already sharing the hotel and the prom itself with them. I think I would like one thing not to share with them. "I hope you didn't mind, but I actually rented a car." He said, breaking my thoughts

"You rented a car?" I repeated. He nodded. "Why did you rent one?" I asked him.

"Well, Rosalie said I wasn't allowed to use her car because she didn't want it out tonight in car something happens to it. I swear that girl loves that thing like a guy should." He joked as he shook his head. I knew what he meant. She cleans and takes it for a tune up as soon as she could. She certainly take proper care of it. "And the only transportation I have is my motorcycle. Unless, you want to ride on that…"

"No thanks." I stopped him.

He laughed. "I thought not." he replied.

"So who else with be in the car with us?" I asked.

"No one. since she's not taking her car, she and Emmett are riding in the jeep we were in on Ditch Day. So we will be just us."

Just me and Jasper in the car? Talk about not sharing. I think I liked the idea. I smiled again. "That sounds good." I told him. "Do I own you something for the car rental?"

He gave a chuckle like I made a joke. "Of course not."

"Jasper, I don't mind." I told him.

"I know, but I want it to be my treat. Seriously, it's fine. You just focus on your perfect look and I will worry about everything else."

"Well, can I at least know the kind?" I asked him.

He gave a thinking hum. Was he thinking if he should tell me or not was he thinking about what kind it was car he got? Then he stopped and smiled. "What did you tell me, you'll find out when I pick you up?" He replied.

"So I don't get to know?"

"Nope. It's a surprise. I'll see you around 7:30."

"But…"

"Shouldn't you being getting ready?" he asked, stopping me. I knew there was no fighting with him. I gave him a nod. We both said by before he signed off.

After I was done talking to Jasper, I went down to eat breakfast. I didn't know when the next chance I would get to eat will be. While I was finishing my juice, there was bell ring that went through the house. Without getting up, I called and told her the door was opened. I unlocked it because I knew only she would be the one coming in and I didn't want to stop eating to let her in. I heard walking to the kitchen. When she got there, she asked what was I still doing in my pajamas. I told her I wanted to eat before getting dressed. When she saw I was done, she rushed me and told me to hurry up. She continued when she came up to my room was in my room and waited for me. When I asked her why did we have to start so early, she said we had a lot to do and little time to do it. They really knew how to start the day.

I got dress in my pre-transformation clothes and a pair of my old raggedy sneakers. If the day was going to be as long as we both thought, I want to be completely comfortable. I grabbed my jacket and followed Rosalie out of the room and the house.

We had to stop by the dress shop so Rosalie could finally pick up her dress. Of course, she tried it on one more time before we left. She said it felt weird that she could take it out of the store. Then we went to the shoe store down the street. It didn't take us too long to pick out the one we wanted since we did the whole I-like-these-I'll-try-them-on-I-don't-like-them-anymore thing the day before.

The shoes Rosalie got were a pair of silver opened heels that zipped in the back. The strap around the ankle held a flower charm. It had crystal strings attached from the flower to the strap in a dangling fashion. There were other crystal strings dangling from the flower to hang over the top of Rosalie's foot. I think they were the perfect style for her pink dress.

The ones I got were a pair of black peep-toe ankle boots with a heel and a platform, making them three inches. The top of them were lace covered with a floral design with strap and a fake buckle around the ankle. They matched so well with my dress so I had to get them. It was a good thing that Alice taught me how to walk and dance in any heel size or I would probably fall on my face. We finished our last minute shopping by getting our jewelry before she took me home. Now it was time to part everything together.

"Ow. Ow. Ow!" I groaned as my mom plucked at my eyebrows. "Ouch. Okay stop." I told her as I pushed her hands away from me.

"You said you wanted me to help with your makeup." She replied. She was right. When I walked into the house, I wanted to start getting ready. I took a shower before putting my robe on and sitting in front of my mom. I knew I needed help my makeup but since Alice was going to prom too, I knew I couldn't call her and ask her to help me because she wouldn't have time to do both mine and hers. It wouldn't nearly as pretty if I did it myself, so I figure my mother would be the next best thing. Well, the best thing I had on such a short notice. I think I should have taken Rosalie offer to go with her to the salon. I just didn't want to spend any more money.

"Yeah; but if you keep plucking at my eyebrows, I won't have any." I complained as grabbed my table mirror. I looked at myself so see what she did to me.

"I was shaping them." Renée answered.

I turned my head to the left then to the right, making sure both of them were even. They were a tad thinner than I would have liked, but they were even. "I think they're pretty shaped. I don't want to look surprise all night." I answered.

"Just let me…" my mom reached for my face again.

I pushed her hand away. "Stop." I told her.

"Why are you so snappy, Bells?" my dad chuckled as he walked pass us to go to the couch. I didn't want to sit on my bed while she did my makeup and hair and I didn't want to have to use my bathroom for anything. Because of that, my mom and I were in the kitchen because it was the only place in the house with chairs and a table and the sink if we needed it.

I sighed. "It's just I've been waiting for this night for a long time. It's finally happening and with the person I want it happen with. I don't want to have the shock of that on my face." I told him.

He just laughed again as he turned the channel. "I never understood the appeal of prom. You spend almost thousands of dollars for an outfit you're only going to wear once to sweat in it anyways. Not to mention transportation and anything or expenses all for just one night. It's all a waste of money if anyone asks me." He replied before pushing chips in his mouth.

I laughed. "You only think that because you didn't go to yours." I told him. Of course, my mom went. It was before she started showing, or she knew how to hide it well. Charlie didn't go because he was on some trip with his friends the night of their prom. He never told if it was because he couldn't get a date or not.

"I didn't understand it then and I don't now." he replied.

When my mom accepted the fact I thought she was done with my eyebrows, she started working on my hair. Since it was wet, she had to go back and forth between my brush and my combs. When it was dry enough and combed through, she started curling it. "Curl it tighter." I told her when I saw the curls she were doing. They were loose. It was like she was holding the iron in place long enough.

"If I curl them any tighter, your hair with break off." she warned.

"No it won't. Alice use to curl my hair tight all the time. Besides, if they start off loose, they will fall quicker. Please, curl it tighter." I explained.

She gave a hard sigh. "Okay, Isabella, I will; but do not blame me when your hair starts coming out." she warned. I rolled my eyes. I don't know why she wasn't listening, like I didn't know what my hair could take. I think I was really regretting not spending the extra money for someone else to do it. "I thought you were wearing your hair up." She replied.

"Rosa said the dress will look better if I wore it down." I told her.

"I suppose she would know better." she grabbed a piece of hair and curled it again. She let it go and she showed me. By the way it fell, I knew it was better than before. "How is that?" she asked.

I smile and nodded. "Perfect." I replied.

She kept curling, some tight than the others. The ones that were tighter were in the front and the ones that were not in the back, making my hair look longer. Like I needed it. "Phone for you, Bells." Charlie said as Renée started braiding a piece of hair.

"Hello." I said as I put the phone to my ear.

"Hey, Bells." I heard his voice come through the phone. I didn't expect to hear from him.

"Hi Jake." I said with excitement. "Why are you calling me?" I asked.

"Well, if I remembering correctly, one of your letters said that today was your prom night. "

"You're calling just because of that." I asked.

"Well, it's not every day my baby cousin gets to go on her senior prom. I just wanted to call and tell you have fun and you're going to a hotel afterwards right?" he asked.

"Yep." I told him.

"Okay, be safe, and take lots of pictures and don't do anything I would do…"

"So, that means I'm staying home." I interrupted, teasing.

He gave a fake laugh. "Shut up." He joked. "But seriously, don't do anything with that football player that wasn't a boyfriend, but now he is – whatever, your relationships are confusing – anyways, don't do anything that you wouldn't want to tell me about." He said.

"Trust me Jake; I already told him. Nothing like that is happening. I just want to have fun, but not that kind of fun." I told him.

"Okay, I'll hold you to that. I love you, Bells." He said.

"Love you too." I told him before we hung up. I hate that he couldn't be here to see me, but it was good to at least hear from him.

"Okay, I think your hair is done." she said after she pinned all my hair to the right side. She placed one more bobby pin in my hair before handing me the mirror again. I smiled when I saw it and it was the way I picturing in my head. "I take that smile as a good thing. Now I will do your make-up."

She started lightly brushing my cheeks. As she was working on my eyes, I heard the doorbell. Both my father and mother looked at me. They were asking if he was here yet. That couldn't have been Jasper. It wasn't even time yet. I looked at my phone. My eyes popped open when I did. Crap. When did it become 7:40? He was late and I still wasn't ready.

"Dad, answer the door please." I said as I stood up.

"Is that Jasper?" he asked.

"I think so." I answered as I gathered the things

"Then he can wait outside." My dad answered. That was answered with another ring of the bell.

"Dad please." I begged

He sighed hard. "Fine."

"Wait…" I told him before he got up. He looked at me. "Wait until mom and I get upstairs." I told him. He gave another fine and waited while my mom and I gathered my makeup and ran up to my room. so much for not wanting to be in my room. "I can't believe I'm not ready yet. This is not good" I said to my mom when we got here.

"Isabella, its fine. He should know that if a woman is to truly look good, she must be fashionably late." She answered as I sat on my bed. "Have I told you that I'm so glad that you are going to prom?" She said as she continued working on my eyes. Oh, that was it. no wonder she was nice, nice for her anyways, to me She wasn't happy when I got in my dream school and she didn't say anything when I ended my high school career with all A's. But if I tell her I'm actually going to prom, she's oh so proud of me. "And with one of the popular boys. Granted, I still wish it was Edward, but…"

"Can you not say things like that in front of Jasper?" I asked her.

"Edward just seems like a better candidate." She replied.

"For who? Actually don't answer that. I know why you like him better. You just like him because he likes you." I told her.

She gave a laugh. "You know what they say; if the boy likes the mother, they know what they are getting into." She answered.

I pressed my fingers to temple and shook my head. "No one says that." I mumbled. I heard my father say my name. I was going to answer, but I thought of who he was talking to downstairs. He was talking to Jasper. About me. Oh great. "Mom, do you think it's okay if we left dad with Jasper?" I asked her.

"Yeah, he's harmless. He seems scary, but it's the mustache. He's really a big softie."

"When he first met him, he had his hand on his gun." I told her.

She gave a hum. "Maybe you should go talk to him. Your hair and makeup is done so you look pretty presentable." She commented before pulling away from my face. And there was the mother comment I was waiting for.

I got off my bed and quickly walked down the stairs. I stopped halfway and I saw my father standing in front of Jasper. They were still by the door. He didn't even let him all the way in the house. Jasper was wearing a charcoal suit with a vest and bow tie combination that was burgundy paisley against a light gray background. Besides from it being a half a shad lighter than my dress color that I doubt anyone would notice, Rosalie did a nice job matching his things with mine. He looked even better than he did in the picture in Edward's room.

"…And I hope you're not planning anything at the hotel." Charlie said.

"No sir." Jasper said.

"You can stop the nice guy act. I know what happens on prom night and…" Geez, first Jacob now him.

"Dad." I stopped him.

Both of them looked at me. Jasper smiled at me. "Hey, Belle. Your hair looks better, but I think you're a tad bit underdress." He joked. I looked down and saw I was still in my bathrobe. Yep, that wasn't embarrassing. I gave a small chuckle to try and hide any horror I was feeling. "Did I come at a bad time?" he added. I looked at him. Then his smile dropped and I saw him look at his watch. "Or am I early…" I was impressed he was wearing an actually wrist watch to look at the time and not look at his phone.

"No. I'm late." I told him. He looked at me. "I swear, I'm almost ready. I just need five more minutes." I told him.

He smiled. "I'll give you ten." He answered.

I smiled back before turning to my father. "But dad, I need you." I told him.

"For what Bella. I was talking to you friend." And that was why I needed him. I just wanted him away from Jasper because of things like say things like calling Jasper "my friend". It was like the word "boyfriend" was so hard him to say. I guess I understood. It was still unbelievable to me.

"I need you help with my dress." I told him.

"I think I should stay here." He turned to Jasper. "You know, remind your 'date' that I am a cop and I do have a gun." I know and I think he was aware. I'm pretty sure he saw the hand placement just like I did.

"Dad!" I called him. He turned back to me. "Please. I can really use your help." I said, begging with my eyes. That he will come with me.

My father's eyes shifted from me to Jasper then from Jasper to me. With my eyes, I begged him again. He rolled his eyes. "Okay, Bells." He said. He turned back to Jasper. "Stay out of my office." He said to Jasper.

Jasper nodded. "Yes sir." My dad turned and walked towards the stairs. I moved out the way so I knew he was in front of me.

"I'll be back in ten." I told him.

"I'll be here." He replied. I gave him a smile before climbing up the stairs and going back to my room.

"Dad, what was that?" I asked him as we walked in my room.

"I was just keeping the boy in check." He answered.

I pressed my fingers to my temple. My parents were being extra crazy tonight. "Dad, two quick things. Don't ever say 'keep in check' ever again and please don't call him that considering we're the same age. If you think of him as a boy, that means you still think as a little girl." I told him.

"I don't, but I still see you as my little girl." He corrected. I guess there was supposes to be a difference. "Now where's this dress you needed help with?" he asked as he sat on my bed because I didn't have any chairs in here.

I shook my head. "I didn't. I just wanted you to stop harassing my boyfriend." I told him.

He groaned. "I wasn't harassing him and please don't call him that in front of me." he replied.

"Whatever. Isabella you need to finish getting ready." My mom told me. Remembering that she was right because Jasper was down stairs waiting for me.

I grabbed the shoebox by the closet. I sat next to my father to put them on. When I did, I realized they zipped in the back like Rosalie's did. I didn't notice before because the zipper was black and blending in with the rest of the shoe. I thought it would be best to put them on first so I would trip over my dress trying to put them on. I zipped the back and stood up. My mom had to catch me and balance me. Uh, I think I undershot how tall these things actually were. I took a few steps to double check if I could walk in them. It was a good thing I could because I didn't have a second choice. I wasn't smart enough to buy a backup pair.

After my shoes, I put on my jewelry so all I needed to do was put on my dress.

I grabbed my dress from the closet and walked into my bathroom so I wouldn't have to change in front of my father. I dropped my bathrobe and pulled my dress over my black underwear. I held it up as I walked out the bathroom while trying not to trip over the bottom of my dress at the same time. It went all the way to the floor so I knew it was a possibility. "Mom, can you…" I asked as I turned so my back was to her.

She grabbed the strings and pulled. Then she pulled and then she pulled some more. She was pulling way tighter than Rosalie was when I tried it on both times. She pulled and pulled until I found myself gasping for air.

"Too…tight…" I breathed, well, trying to.

"Isabella, it has to be tight. You're not wearing anything under it, so the tighter it is, the better chance it will smooth out any unwanted…lumps." Oh thanks mom and here I thought you wouldn't make a comment about how I look.

"Can't…breathe…" I gasped more.

"Renée, you're going to choke the girl." Charlie said. After he did, I felt the strings loosen a little. He must've pushed her out the way. I gave a gasp of air. He tightened the strings again as tight as he could, but not tighter than my mother's admit before tying the strings.

"Thanks, dad. I was probably going to pass out before I could make it down stairs if we kept it that tight." I told them. I turned to them and I heard a gasp. They stared at me like I turned into something else right before their eyes. "What?" I asked. "What's wrong?" I asked in a panic when they didn't answer me. Oh no, was something wrong with the dress, with my hair. I quickly turned to my mirror to see what could've been incorrect. Something had to be out of place for them to be staring at me like that. I looked and check and there was nothing wrong that I could see.

"Bella, it's nothing wrong." My father said behind me. I turned to them again.

"Then why were you guys looking at me like that?" I asked.

"Because sweetheart, you're beautiful." he answered.

"Really?" I asked as I smoothed any imaginary strands of hair.

They both nodded. "Oh, Isabella, you almost look as pretty as I did on my prom night." my mother said. I wanted to roll my eyes, but I didn't because I knew that was as good as the praise was going to get from her. Then I saw…wait …

"Mom, are you crying?" I asked her as I saw a tear fall from her face.

She quickly wiped it away. "Of course not, you silly girl." She answered. "Your father and I are going to down stairs and keep your boy…" my father cleared his throat. "Your male friend company. Come down when you're ready." She said. She grabbed my father hand and walked out the room.

When they did, I grabbed my clutch that Alice brought me a while ago. I filled it with my tube of lip stick I was wear, my credit cards and extra cash, and my car keys because it had my house key on it. I looked around to see what I was forgetting. I didn't know, but I felt like I was. What was I forgetting? I didn't know, but this wasn't helping any nervousness I was already feeling. I grabbed my phone call Rosalie. It rang two times before she picked up. "Hello." She answered.

"Rosa, what am I forgetting? I feel like I'm forgetting something and I don't know what." I told her.

"Izzie, calm down. I'm sure you're not forgetting anything. And if you did, I'm sure I will have extra. Just calm down before you sweat through your dress before you even get on the dance floor." She told me.

"Rosie, I'm nervous. I've been wanting this for so long. What if I trip or spill something on him?"

"And what if a meteor falls from the sky?' she interrupted.

"Oh, I didn't think of that. And what about afterwards, what if he expects 'it'?" I wasn't thinking that he would until Jacob and my dad brought it up.. what if my father gave Jasper ideas?

"Bella, I was joking. Will you chill? I told you, stop 'what if'ing the hell out of everything. Everything will be fine. Jasper's been looking forward to this just as much as you has, so he will make sure of that. Just take breathes." She replied. I did what she said. "Okay," she said when she heard me stop. "Now as for the 'thing', he said you guys talked about and he doesn't want to push you or make you feel like you have to. It will make you feel any better, I will make sure Emmett and I don't do it either. We can hang out all night and have our own little after party." She said.

"Are you sure Emmett will be okay with that?" I asked, knowing they were the most active couple tonight.

"Please, we do it anyways, he has to be okay with it." she answered.

I laughed. "Okay."

"Isabella!" I heard my mom calling.

"I hear they are waiting for you so I will let you go, plus I need to finish getting ready."

"You're not ready yet?" I asked.

She gave a hard sigh. "My stupid appointment got pushed back and threw my whole day schedule off. I tell you about it later. I'll see you in an hour or so." She answered. I said okay before hanging up. I gave a few more deep breathes. She was right. Everything will be fine. It will be a great night and nothing was going to ruin it. I put in my phone in the clutch and closed it before going downstairs.

"…It's a good thing you don't drink. I would want anything to happen with my only daughter in the car with you." I heard my father said as I walked down the stairs. He was playing the "only daughter" thing again. Thanks, because I'm sure he didn't catch that the first time. I bet he was already nervous, at least I hope I wasn't the only one, and I don't think my father pressuring him was helping.

It was time to interfere. Plus, I think it was time for Jasper to finally see my dress.

I cleared my throat. I felt eagle-size butterflies flap their large wings against the lining of my stomach. I felt my palms become sweaty and my fingers tremble. I wasn't worried about if he would like it or not. I knew he would; I just didn't know exactly how he would react. And then, all six eyes were on me. As soon as Jasper looked at me, his eyes popped out of his head and his mouth dropped to the floor.

"Do you like it?" I asked as he looked my dress.

My dress was a burgundy ball grown with a sweetheart neckline and strapless. it had gray embroidery in designs where it was lines where the ends curled in like a piece of paper that someone unrolled after being tightly roll. The curled lines were along the top of the neckline and going down to the top of my waist and all around the skirt. The design reminded me of tiny chandlers. A piece of fabric gave the impression of drapery as it went from the side of my dress up diagonal to my waist.

"Wow…" he gasped. He sounded like me when my mom was choking me just now, but not at the same time. "I'm glad you didn't saw me until now. Belle, you look…amazing. I don't think that's a good enough word." He said.

I couldn't help but blush. "You really like it?" I said as walked down the rest of the stairs.

He slowly walked towards me then held out his hand to me. I took it. When I did, he slowly sprung me. "You look really great." He said when I was facing him again.

I couldn't help the dumb little giggle that came from my mouth. "Thank you; you look very nice as well." I told him. We looked at each other and I felt the urge to kiss him. The reason I didn't was because…

My dad cleared his throat and Jasper and I turned to him and my mother. That's right; my parents were in the room with us. "Jasper, would mind taking a few pictures with Isabella?" my mother asked.

Jasper smiled at me. "Not at all; but before we do." He released my hand. I didn't even realized his hand other hand was behind his back until he pulled it out. When he did, he revealed a plastic container with a burgundy and white corsage in it. "This is for you." She said.

That reminds me. I had the same thing for him. I told him to hold on as I walked into my father's office and got my container off one of the shelves before walking back in the living room. "This is for you." I replied showing the flower I got that was gray with one burgundy ribbon around it. He opened his container. He took the flower out and slipped it on my wrist. Then I took mine out and pin it to his lapel. Well, I tried to. I was always thought people were being silly when they said it was hard to pin it, but when I tried and poked myself four times and him twice before finally getting it on.

When I got it on, Jasper grabbed both of my hands and pulled me towards him. When he did, my mom went on to take pictures of us and moving us in different poses. Then after a few other pictures, Jasper offered to take a picture with me and both of my parents. I thought it was a good idea and my father looked like he appreciated the effort.

After that, I think I would say the pictures were done for now. "Belle, I think we should get going." Jasper said as he hand the camera back to my mother.

"Okay." I told him. I turned and hugged my father.

"Bye Bella. Please be safe tonight. I love you." He said in my ear.

"Love you too dad; and I will." I told him as I released him. I waved bye and blew a kiss to my mother before taking Jasper hand and we walked out the door. When we did, I realized, it would be the first time I was going to know what kind of car he got for us since he didn't tell me earlier. We stopped in front the car and I looked up. I gasped. It was my dream car. The one I promised myself I would get the second I had the chance. "A red 1967 Chevy Camaro." I mumbled.

Jasper chuckled. "I guess you like it." he said. "Rosa told me you would."

I nodded. It was vintage and red, my two favorite things. "It's gorgeous, Jasper." I looked at him. "Where did you get it?" I asked.

"Our uncle owns a car lot. That's how Rosalie and I got our modes of transportation for cheap. Well, let's get in, shall we?" he said before walking to the passenger's side of the car. "Your chariot." He said as he opened the door. I smiled before walking over to him and getting in the car. He walked to the other side and got in. When he did, he turned to me. "By the way, I didn't want to say this in front of your parents, but I'm glad you pick that color. You look really sexy in it." he said. I couldn't stop my face from turning a bright red at the word he used. Sexy. I've never ever been called that.

"Thank you." I replied. "You look really…handsome in your suit." I told him, not being able to use the same word he did. Not only have I never heard the word, but I never said it either. It might as well been a swear word.

He chuckled again. "Thank you." He replied before leaning into me and kissing me on the lips. I let him stay there for a moment before I pulled away. I reached in my purse and grabbed my phone. "What's wrong?" he asked.

I shook my head. "I thought I heard my phone ring." I told him. I was kind of disappointed when I saw I didn't. When I was getting ready, I did send Edward a text and called him once. I thought he would have replied by now, but he hasn't. "Have you talked to Edward?" I asked.

"I texted him this morning, but I haven't really talked to anyone today." Jasper answered.

Oh, then he wouldn't know why Edward wasn't answering me. I turned to Jasper. "Is Edward mad at me?" I asked.

"Not that I know." Jasper answered. "Why do you ask?"

It had to be an actually reason he hasn't answered yet. I know we haven't talked about, but I hope he wasn't talking to me on this particular day because of what he asked me. I would like to think he wasn't upset by the response I gave him. He probably wasn't. "He just hasn't called me back. I thought he would, but he hasn't even text." I told him. I put my phone back in my purse. I gave a light sigh. "I guess I'll talk to him when we get there." I said.

"You mean to prom?" Jasper asked. I turned to him and nodded. What else would I mean? "He didn't tell you?" he added. I gave a confused looked. Tell me what? What did Edward have to tell me? Did have something to do with why he wasn't answering me? "Edward's not coming tonight."

"He's not?" I asked in shock. Jasper shook his head. "Did he say why?" I couldn't help, but to ask. What reason, besides the only one I could think of, would he have not to come tonight? Was that why Alice got to come? It might be why she said she saved money by not buying her own ticket. She let it slip but didn't explain why she didn't.

Jasper gave a shrug. "He just said he didn't feel up to it. But he told me to make sure we had fun and not worried about him." Maybe it had nothing to do with me. maybe it was personal and had to do with something with not wanting to see Tanya since they were running for king and queen together. Once again, I will take Jasper's word because he knew Edward better than me. "If you want, we can stop by and see him." he said.

I shook my head. "I will just talk to him tomorrow or something. Let's go." I told him before he pulled out of my drive way.

XXX

We pulled up to the banquet hall that was on the edge of Seattle. It was only place big enough for something like this. Jasper opened my door and helped me out. He held my hand as we walk through the doors. We got to the ball room, music was already shaking the walls and I saw it was already almost full with students from my high school. I looked around to see if there were faces I knew. Not just knew, but someone I usually talk to. Jasper and I moved further into the room.

He placed his hand on my waist as he guided me through the sea of people. As we did, people were coming up and stopping us to talk. Girls were coming up and eyeing Jasper and complimenting me on my dress and my date. Guys from Jasper's teams can up and greeted him. When they did, I realized it a lot his teammates were his friends that I didn't know. Then again they were people I knew that he didn't know because they were in my classes and not in his.

"Bella!" I heard a yell. The music was loud so whoever it was was close. I looked up and saw Alice running towards me. Before she got too close, I stepped away from Jasper and opened my arms. Just like I expected she crashed into me. She pulled away and looked at me. "Damn girl, you look hot." She commented.

I laughed at the comment. "Thank you. You look great too." I told her, looking at her silver dress. I wonder how Edward let her go out with that long slit on her leg.

She looked next to me. "And with your perfect match. Jasper, you are looking sexy in your tux, as always." She commented.

Jasper chuckled. "Thank you Alice. You look very nice too."

"You two look…amazing together." She said, shifting her eyes back and forward. I looked behind her and saw her date walking towards us. He was going to have to be faster if her wanted to keep up with Alice tonight.

"Hi Peter." I greeted when he was next to her.

"Hey Bella. Nice dress." He commented.

"Thank you."

"Come on, we have a table for all of us." Alice said. I nodded as I grabbed Jasper's hand again. Alice walked away to go back to the table she they had.

I started to follow after her, but got stopped. As I walking someone bumped into me. "Excuse you." I heard a snap. I looked to see who it was. "Watch where you're going." she said before looking at me. I wasn't surprised by who it was. Tanya looked at me. Then she gave a smirk. "Wow, look at you two. Don't you think red is a little too bold for Little Miss Innocent over her?"

"No, considering this burgundy." I told her.

She rolled her eyes. "Whatever."

"Where's your boy Edward, Jasper? Did he stay home so he wouldn't see me taking his place as king?" James said as he wrapped his arms around her waist then kissed her neck.

"Still playing Edward's backup, I see." Jasper replied. James looked at him with a glare. Very defensive. So he likes to talk about people but doesn't like to get talked about? Wow, they were perfect for each other.

"Just both of you stay the hell out of our way. But, for Bella, that might be too much to ask. I guess it might be impossible for her to do anything but bump into anything with that big ass dress. Where did you get it, did someone have a left over circus tent to let you borrow?" She said with a laugh behind. James didn't take time to follow behind her. He was like the male version of Kate. I guess that what she needed.

And I know what she wanted from me. She expected a comeback. She wanted me to say something. She wanted to start a fight, or at least an argument. Any other day, I would've said some remark about her intelligence or how Edward was start for breaking up with her or the only reason she was dating James because he let her think for her. I had so many things to say to her, but I wasn't going to because I didn't want to do that tonight. She could try and get a rise out of someone else.

I smiled at her. "You look pretty, Tanya." I told her.

She glared at me. "Are you trying to make a joke?" she snapped.

I shook my head. "No. I mean it. you really look nice. Salmon is you color. Look, I don't know why you hate me so much and I'm sorry for whatever it is. I don't want to fight with you, not tonight. Enjoy your night and I'm sure the crown will look nice on you." I looked at James. "Happy Prom, you two." I told them before wrapping Jasper hand around my waist and turning away from them.

"That was very mature of you." Jasper said in my ear.

I laughed. "Thank you. I just want tonight to be a good one." I told him.

"Nice thought." he said before kissing my cheek. We made it to the table. When we did, Rosalie and Emmett were there at the table. "How the hell did you guys beat us here?" he asked his sister.

"Your sister made me drive like a bat outta hell when I picked her up." Emmett chuckled.

"Well, we were already late. I didn't want to be any later." She told us. "Wow, Bella, you looked better than when you tried that on."

"Thank you and you did very well with his colors." I told her, gesturing to Jasper.

"At least someone thought I did." she replied, looking at her brother. "Jasper was upset because he couldn't see the dress and thought the colors were off." she laughed

"Belle, would you like to dance with me?" Jasper asked looking at me.

"Now, but we just got here." I told him.

"Yeah, but…" he took my bag out my hand and placed it on the table. He grabbed both of my hands. "I like this song and I want to get away from my sister before she says something else completely embarrassing." He answered.

I laughed. "You don't have to be embarrassed in front of me." I told him.

He laughed in response. "Okay, but I still want to dance. Let's see how you move in that dress." He said as he pulled me to the dance floor.

When he pulled me to where he thought was a good spot, he pulled me close and we started to dance. As we did, I remembered that since they haven't really had a part lately, this was the first time we danced in a while. He didn't miss a beat. He was spinning me and twirling me like a pro. He never let his hands leave me as he moved them to my waist then the small of my back then to my hands and all around again. He twirled me and hugged me from behind as he rocked us to the beat. I couldn't help but giggle as he kissed the side of my neck that was exposed. It was the first time he did that and I could actually feel it.

After a few songs, I told him I was tired so we went to sit down where my bag was. When we got there, I noticed all the other girls' bags were at every other chair, but they weren't. I guessed they were dancing. I told him I was hungry before he led me to the buffet table. We got some food before he took the plate of out my hand and I followed him back to the table. I've learn not to question him when he does things like that. It was what he did. It was what he thought a good boyfriend should do. They help without being asked. I liked it. It tells me I could count on him, even for small things.

As we ate, everyone else was coming back from the dance floor with the same thought to get something to eat. I guess dancing really took a lot of energy out you, which makes you hungry. "Jasper, stop." I told him as I moved his fork away from my plate. Since we stopped dancing before everyone else, we were eating before everyone, then done eating before everyone. While they were still eating their dinner, we were eating our dessert. I had a piece of baked cheesecake with glazed strawberries on top and he had a piece of white cake with chocolate icing and whipped cream on top. Just like at lunch, he was reaching for my plate. "Will you stop?" I laughed as I pushed him away again.

He laughed. "Why don't you never like to share with me?" he asked.

I turned to him. "Why do I need to when you have you own?" I asked him. "Which, by the way, looks just as good as I mine." I reminded him.

"Good point. Here…" he took my plate and his plate and switched them. "Now we can share." He said. I gave a playful eye roll before taking a bit of his cake. I turned to him to see him taking a bit of my cheesecake he stole. He gave a hum.

"How is it, thief?" I teased.

He turned to me. "Sweet." He licked his lips before leaning and closing the space between our lips. "Sweeter." He said softly before closing the space again.

"You guys. I get it its prom, but…" we pulled away and looked at Alice. "We didn't want to see that the lunch table, we don't want to see it now." she commented.

"Right." I smiled. "But I want my cheesecake back." I told Jasper as I switched our plates back. We kept eating and Jasper didn't try to reach for my plate again while we did. When we were finished, we stayed and talked to everyone at the table while they finished eating their own desserts. While they were, Alice started taking pictures of everyone at the table.

"Jasper and Bella, get together." She told us. When she did, Jasper put his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him before we both smiled at her phone. "Bella, come take a picture with me?" she invited.

"Why?" I asked.

"I'm taking pictures of everything for Edward. You're his best female friend and I'm his sister. I thought it would be a nice one." She answered. I was his best friend? I didn't know that. It was something he never told me. He said once I was his only female friend, but he never told me I was only best friend, the female one anyways. "I don't want him to miss everything." She said snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Why didn't he come?" I asked, she had to know the reason.

"He…said he didn't want to." She answered. it was the same thing Jasper said. Maybe that was really the truth then. "Come on." She said waved me over. Since no one else was talking about, I guess I won't either. I got up and walked over to her. We posed our faces close together as she held her phone at arm's length snapped the picture.

After she did, I walked back over to my seat next to Jasper. Rosalie was pulling Emmett through the crowd of people and back to the table. "Where did you guys go?" I asked before licking some glaze off my finger from my plate.

"We went to go vote for king and queen. Did you guys vote yet?" she asked.

"I did, so did Peter." Alice said. The two other couples at the table said they did too.

Rosalie looked at me. "Did you?" she asked.

Not that I think about…"I don't think so." When we came in, we were stopped by everyone, then came to the table, then danced, then ate. We never had time to vote for king and queen. I guess it slipped my mind.

"I think you should go." Rosalie told me, sitting down in her seat.

I turned to Jasper. "Should we go?" I asked.

He looked at his sister and smiled before turning back to me. "Sure, I don't see why not." he said before getting up from his seat. I followed his lead before he grabbed my hand and we walked out the ball room. "Do you want to take our prom picture?" Jasper asked as we walked through the lobby. I figured he asked because we walked past the sign that told us where to go to take them.

"I think Alice will have enough of those." I joked. He laughed as we walked until we saw the sign well where it said to vote for king and queen. When we got it, there were booths like it was an actual voting booth. We walked to two next to each other. He went in one and I was in the other. The tables were high enough so someone didn't have to get on their knees to use it. Good idea. I looked down at the paper, ready to vote for Rosalie without a second thought.

Then I saw something. My name was under queen and Jasper's under king. That had to be a mistake. "Jasper." I called, looking over the fake wall. He looked at me. "Our names are here."

He smiled. "I know. It's why Rosalie told you to come vote."

"Did you put them there?" I asked. If he did, why didn't he tell me?

He shook his head. "No, I didn't. However, I might have mentioned to a few people how cute you would look with a tiara on you head." He answered. I looked at the paper again. I was nominated for prom queen. It was weird. I didn't even know I would be here tonight let along be have my name on here for queen. Was it joke? Maybe the second I went up there, Tanya would dump something on me. Okay, I think I've seen Carrie too many times and I know Rosalie or Jasper and maybe even Emmett would let that happen. But that didn't take away from the fact that I was on the ballot and I didn't know about it until now.

"What do we do? " I asked as I looked at him again.

"Well, I don't about you, but I'm going to vote for us." he answered.

"Can we do that?"

He laughed. "Yes Bella. It is okay to be conceited every once in a while." He said before turning back to his paper. I turned back to mine. I made a decision.

Jasper grabbed my hand and we walked back to the ball room when we were done. As we walked toward it, we saw Alice walking out. "Is everything okay?" I asked when we saw her closed the door behind her, muffling some of the music.

She looked at me and nodded. "It's just my mom. Go, I will be back in there in a minute." She said to us. Jasper and I both said okay. He opened the door for me and followed me in.

When we walked back into the ball room, I noticed the music had slowed and everyone was slow dancing. Then the volume was lowed. "Remember to vote for king and queen. If you haven't you still have about five minutes left." The DJ said over through the speakers.

The music was turned back up. Jasper turned to me. "May I have this dance, ma belle dame?" I blushed and giggled when he called me his beautiful lady in French. I don't think anyone has ever made me blush and giggle at the same time.

"Yes you may, mon gars handsom." I replied by calling him my handsome guy in a much better French ascent. He took my hands and pulled me to the middle of the dance floor. He stopped at the perfect spot. He placed my hands around his neck before working his way down my sides and stopping at my waist. He pulled me closer and wrapped his arms around my waist. "You've been working your French." I noted as we started to sway to the music.

"Kinda; I thought it would impress you if I knew at least one phrase." He admitted.

I chuckled. "The fact that you think you need to is funny." I told him. "But very cute. So thank you for trying so hard." I told him.

"Trust me, it's my pleasure." He said with a chuckle in response. He stopped and twirled me in a circle. When I was facing him again, he pulled me close again. "You know, this is our first dance." He said.

I gave a confused look. "We've danced like this before. It was at your party, remember; when my rude cousin interrupted us." I reminded him.

He laughed. "Yeah, I remember that." he said with a nod. "Your cousin is a character. I'm sure he was looking for reasons to stop us when he saw that little peck." He joked. "But we were just…you know, then. It was before we were together like we are now." he said.

I thought about it and realized he was right. This was our first official slow dance as a couple. "You're right. It's funny how you keep track of things like that." I told him.

"I know, I'm kinda lame." He replied.

I shook my head. "I never said that. I like it." I told him. I started to reach up to kiss him. I stopped because something on the far wall caught my eye. It was Peter, placing Alice by the wall before walking over to the table. I saw her shoulders moving heavily. Was she crying? "Something's wrong with Alice." I told him. He looked over his shoulder at her. Her shoulder moved again as she put her hands to her face. "I think she's crying." I told him. I grabbed his hand and we walked over to her. When we got to her, I touched her shoulder. She looked at me and her eyes were red and her cheeks were wet with long tear and makeup steams. "Alice?"

"Bella…" she cried as she hugged me. "It was my fault, I was texting him. I didn't know he was driving." She cried.

"Alice…" I pulled back. "Calm down." I told her I placed my hands on her shoulders.

She shook her head. "I can't calm down, Bella. He's my brother. The last thing I told him was to stop embarrassing me. It was about a guy I was just coming to prom with. He's my brother and the last thing I said to my brother was to stop embarrassing me." she ran her hand through her hair and let out a cry.

"What happened to Edward?" I told her.

"Edward just…" She let out another cry. She gripped her hair and shook her head. She groaned before she let out another cry. A loud cry that echoed over the music. I don't know why it took me so long to realize it. I should've known the signs. Alice was having a break down. "Edward got in a car accident… he is in the hospital." she cried more.

I felt my heart drop. "Alice, is he okay?" Jasper asked.

She shook her head. "I don't know. My mom…she didn't tell me anything."

"Alice…" Jasper and I turned to Peter; he had his jacket and her purse.

"I have to go. I have to go to the hospital." She said turning from me.

I grabbed her wrist. "How are you getting there?"

"We…we brought a limo here with other people…I'm…I'm just going to take a cab." She told me.

"No you are not." Jasper said.

"Jasper, I have to go." She cried more.

"You're not taking a cab. We'll take you." He answered.

"No. no. you guys need to stay here... it's your prom and you should stay…"

"Alice stop. We're coming with you." I told her. I turned to Jasper. "Can you go get my purse?" I asked.

"Yeah, of course. I will be right back then we can leave." he said

"We'll wait by the car. She doesn't need to be in here right now." I told him. He nodded before jogging away from us. I grabbed Alice's hand and wrapped her arm around my neck and walked her to the door. I was almost there when I was stopped.

"Bella, did you see? You were nominated for queen. Come on, we all have to go to the stage for the crowning." Rosalie said with an excited smile. The smile dropped and the excitement faded when she saw Alice. "What's wrong?" she asked.

I turned to Peter. "Take her outside." I told him. He nodded as he grabbed her and walked with her through the doors. "I have to go with Alice." I told her.

"Go with her where? What happened?" she asked.

I gave a hard sigh. "Edward got in a car accident." I told her.

"What? Is he okay?" she asked.

I shook my head. "I don't know. We're going to the hospital now." I told her.

"I'm going to get Emmett and we're coming with you." She said.

Before she could walk away from me, I grabbed her arm. "No, you're going to stay here and get your crown." I told her.

"Bella, I don't care about that stupid crown." She said to me.

"Yes, you do. You're been talking about it since the day we met. You know you want that and you going to stay here and get it. Edward will be there when you and Emmett are done. So you go become queen, have your dance and then meet us there. Alright." I told her.

"Bella…"

"Rosalie, No."

She sighed. "Okay." She said.

"Ready?" I heard a voice. I turned to see Jasper next to me.

I nodded before turning to Rosalie. "Don't tell Emmett until after the dance." I told her. She nodded. I grabbed Jasper's hand and we ran out the door.

Before the door closed, I heard one thing… "Will all the king and queen nominees report to the stage?"
