The Dinner

Dawn's POV

I awoke sweating and gasping for air as I sprung up from the couch.

Robin, startled by my sudden movement, snapped his eyes open and jolted out of his peaceful sleep. His eyes instinctively scanned the area for any danger before finally settling on me. He relaxed a little when he realized there was no immediate danger and it was just me who woke him up.

He focused his attention on me and leaned in so I could see his face through the darkness.

"Dawn... are you ok?" he hesitantly asked while placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.

He could tell I'm on edge and frightened by something and didn't want to scare me anymore than I already was by any sudden contact.

His touch snapped me out of my frantic shock and I whipped my head around to look into his shimmering blue eyes, which at the moment are filled with concern. I remained silent as I tried to catch my breath and sucked in shaky breathes.

Robin shifted and sat up straighter as he silently waited for me to recover.

"Yeah…I'm…I'm fine," I stuttered once my breathing returned to normal.

"You don't look fine," he pressed lightly.

"Just some bad dreams, nothing new" I whispered as I coursed a hand through my hair to push it out of my face.

"Was it the nightmare?" he asked while lightly squeezing my shoulder as a form of silent comfort.

I stared at the floor and struggled to hold back the tears that desperately wanted to escape as I nodded confirming his statement. We both know what nightmare he's referring to because we both get them.

Seeing your parents die right before your eyes, especially at such a young age, is not something you easily forget. That experience tends to stick with you.

It's actually one of the main reasons we got along so well when we first met. We understand each other in ways that most people can't even attempt to understand.

He placed a finger under my chin and slowly tilted my head upwards, forcing me to look at him. I didn't want to look up because I knew if I did I'd break and I didn't want that to happen.

"It's ok Dawn, I'm here, " he whispered as he pulled me into his chest.

I wrapped my arms around his waist and encased myself in his warm hug as he rubbed comforting circles on my back. A single tear slipped through and trailed down my cheek, than another, and another, and another until my dam fully broke and all of my tears released.

Robin stayed there and comforted me, as all of my pent-up emotions finally broke free. He sat there on the couch in silence holding me as I silently cried after having to relive the worst night of my life.

My back was lying against the soft cushions of my bed as I stared up at my bedroom's ceiling at the cave. When I was younger I used to climb onto the roof of my home in California and stargaze for hours every night. This routine eventually became a habitat and I quickly fell in love with the twinkling lights that decorated the night sky.

Since I live in the city now I can't see the stars like I used to, so I decided to decorate my ceiling with glow in the dark stars. It isn't the same as seeing real stars, but its something at least.

As I stared up at the glowing stars my mind drifted to last night's dreams. What was my first dream about? I don't remember finding any crystal in my backyard, but then again I would've been young when it happened and I have forgotten a lot of my early childhood. I suppose it's possible that it did happen and I just forgot about it, but then that raises a whole new set of questions.

What kind of crystal was it, why is it important, and who is Priscilla? She said she's the spirit of the crystal, but is that the crystal she's referring to?

I rubbed my eyes and tried to rid myself of the exhaustion I'm currently feeling.

"Maybe these dreams don't mean anything at all and I'm just over thinking things," I muttered to myself finally breaking the silence that's consumed my room for the past few hours.

My mind's working overtime as it attempts to answer the large stream of questions whirling around in my head causing me to form a quick headache. The fact that I couldn't go back to sleep after waking up from my dreams probably didn't help either.

After Robin managed to calm me down last nigh I moved past the family nightmare and focused on deciphering the first two dreams. Ever since I woke up they're the only two things I can think of.

I woke up hours ago and I'm still not any closer to figuring out what they mean.

My loud growling stomach interrupted my train of thought as I was reminded me of just how hungry I am. I haven't eaten since yesterday's dinner and it's almost noon. I swung my legs off of the bed and walked into the kitchen to make myself a sandwich.

I took a huge bite out of my meal as I walked over to the couch and turned on the TV. I plopped down on the soft cushions and scrolled through the channels until I found something I liked. I clicked on one of my favorite movies of all time and smiled as it started to play. I watched Transformers and had just gotten to the part where Sector 7 kidnaps Sam and Mikaela when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

I reached down and pulled my phone out of my pants before looking at the text message I received from Aunt Sue.

Morning Dawn! I just found out that I have the day off from work so I'll be home all day and I thought you might enjoy having your friends over for dinner tonight. I can meet the rest of the team and I'll even make my famous cake and pasta.

My mouth started to water as I thought of Sue's legendary multi layered chocolate cake and quickly texted a response.

Bruce made Aunt Sue and I secure private phones so I wasn't worried about our messages being intercepted. Since we had these special phones we could openly talk about the team and hero stuff without using code words.

Sounds great. I've wanted to bring them over for a while anyways and was going to ask if they could come over sometime this week, so this is perfect. I'll ask the team to see if they want to come. Do you want me to ask Bats and Alfred to come as well?

I sent the message to Sue then contacted Megan by sending out a telepathic message asking her to open up a telepathic link between the entire team.

"Hey guys, so my Aunt just invited you all over for dinner tonight. She's making her famous pasta and multi layered chocolate cake. You guys wanna come?" I asked the group.

"Dawn you know you don't even have to ask me. Aunt Sue's cooking so I'm definitely going" Wally answered.

"Same here, I haven't seen Aunt Sue in a while so I'm in" Robin agreed.

"Is she the one who taught Megan to cook" Superboy asked.

"Yep," I thought with a grin.

"I'm in," he stated casually.

"I would be honored " Kaldur answered.

"Oh I'd love to go. Maybe she'll teach me how to make her cake while we're there" Megan cheerfully responded.

I could just imagine her jumping up and down in the hallway while clapping her hands with joy.

"Cool I'll tell her we'll be there, everyone be ready to go by 6" I informed the group before leaving the link discussion just as my phone buzzed.

I already talked to them. Bruce can't come; unfortunately he has other matters to attend to and Alfred is visiting an old family friend for the day. Bats gave the team permission, though just this once mind you, to come to Gotham as long as they don't mess up anything. He also wanted me to tell you that he's going to be a little late for patrol today so you're suppose to start without him and he'll meet up with you and Robin later tonight.'

My fingers flew across the screen as I texted back.

OK I'll let Robin know; and the team is coming over. Wally's coming so make sure you make a lot. You of all people know how much that boy can eat, and I'm sure once Wally tells them you're cooking Barry and Iris will be stopping by as well. Barry can't resist your cooking and Iris will probably just be happy to get a break from cooking for the two speedsters since Wally's parents are out-of-town on business for the next two months and he's staying with them. We'll leave the mountain around 6:00 so we'll get to the house around 6:15.

I received a reply a few minutes later.

I had a feeling Barry would be coming so I already started making the food and I'm preparing enough for two speedsters, a Superboy, and an Atlantean. Don't worry dear I know the drill. I've been doing this for a long time. See you soon.

I smiled and slipped my phone back into my pocket before leaving the living room and flying to the gym. I have some time to kill so I decided to do some extra training to pass the time.

After about 2 hours of training I'm sweaty and sore all over, and looked up at the clock on the wall to see it's almost 5:30. I put all of my workout gear back in its place before flying to my room to take a shower and get dressed. By the time I finished it was about 5 minutes till 6 so I went to the Zeta tubes and waited for the rest of the team to arrive.

Not surprising KF was the first to arrive. He came running around the corner and came to a skidding halt just centimeters away from my face as he vibrated with excitement.

"Oh I can already taste Sue's delicious food right now" he drooled as he imagined all the tasty food we're going to eat.

I laughed and lightly pushed his shoulder.

"Alright KF, I get that you're excited but calm down and stop drooling. You get Sue's cooking like once every two weeks."

"I know, but you know how much I love food and it's like Sue's cooking gets better and better every time I have some" Wally answered.

He slowed his vibrating down a little but his words remained fast and blurred. The only reason I understood him is because I've had years to get used to his excited fast speak.

I rolled my eyes and waited for the rest of the team to arrive. About five minutes later everyone was at the zeta tubes and ready to go.

Well everyone except for Robin.

"Where is that little bird?" I muttered impatiently while tapping my foot on the floor.

I was just about to go search for him when I felt something heavy fall on my back causing me to stumble and almost fall flat my face.

I was just about to fly up and smash the person into the ceiling on instinct when I heard a familiar laugh fill the room. I glanced up to see Robin on my shoulders grinning that annoying grin of his. He did his signature cackle before flipping off of my shoulders.

He walked up behind me and whispered in my ear.

"Sweet, sweet revenge," he whispered before we all walked into the zeta tubes and teleported to Gotham City.

Next chapter we'll see Barry, Iris, and Aunt Sue as everyone goes over to Dawn's for dinner. Superboy and Kaldur finally get to meet the famous Aunt Sue.
