Dawn's POV
It's a warm and sunny day in Happy Harbor Rhode Island so the team decided to have a beach day. I personally love the idea because I love the beach.
I have on my favorite dark blue halter-top bikini and a pair of black flip-flops. The soft ocean breeze is gently blowing my long brown hair behind me.
I breathed in the smell of the ocean and felt the familiar warmth of the sun on my skin. M'gann ran onto the hot sand with the rest of the team and smiled.
"Hello Megan, we should hit the beach every day," she said.
I raised a hand in the air and laughed, "I second that motion."
Robin bent his head and placed a hand on his forehead.
"First a moment of silence for our absent comrade" he said in a fake sad tone.
"Poor Wally" M'gann said genuinely feeling sorry for him unlike Robin.
"Yeah sucks to be him, he has school," I said and shook my head in fake sadness before yelling in excitement "last one in the water is a rotten egg!"
For the next couple of hours we had the best beach day ever. We played in the water and I used my powers to create a huge wave for everyone to surf on; and not to brag or anything but I'm by far the best surfer on the team. Robin gave me a run for my money, but in the end he lost his balance and wiped out. For lunch we sat on logs and grilled hotdogs on our small portable grill. After lunch we played an intense game of beach volleyball.
For the first match I played referee so it was Superboy and M'gann vs. Kaldur and Robin. Superboy and Megan won that round, but then the real fun began. Aqualad switched places with me so I was on Robin's team and we smirked at each other.
Individually we're both good, but put the two of us together and we become practically unstoppable. I know what Robin's next move is going to be before he even thinks about making it and vice versa. We can predict each others movements and plan accordingly to accommodate them. This is what makes us such a deadly pair.
We easily crushed the other team and won by 20 points.
After volleyball Superboy let us bury him in the sand after a large amount of persuading, puppy-dog eyes, and eyelash fluttering from Megan and I. We'd just finished burying him in the ground when Tornado called us back in saying we needed to suit up and meet in the main hangar in 30 minutes.
"Looks like our beach day has officially come to an end" I sadly stated as we packed up our stuff and returned to the mountain.
I went to my room and peeled off my wet swimsuit before changing into my Shade uniform.
After that I used my powers to give my hair a quick wash. I commanded a small bubble of water to form out of the air and wave around my hair. I then floated the shampoo and conditioner bottles over to give my hair a quick wash. Once my hair was nice and clean I lifted the water out of my hair leaving it dry and straight like normal.
I placed the bottles back by the sink and flew into the hangar with 5 minutes to spare. When I arrived the rest of the team was already there along with Batman and Tornado.
"Do we have a mission?" I asked Batman as I landed beside Robin.
"Not today, but there's someone we want you all to meet" he said as the computer announced two new arrivals.
"Recognized Green Arrow 08, Artemis B07" the computer announced as two figures teleported into the hangar.
Green Arrow walked in with a teenage girl who looked to be around Wally's age. She's lean with very toned arms, stomach, and legs and is of average height for her age. She has olive skin, dark grey eyes, and long blonde hair which is currently pulled back into a high ponytail.
She's wearing a dark green short-sleeved midriff top with a light green arrowhead on the chest, dark green pants with kneepads built in, and black boots. Clenched in her right hand is a long dark green bow and strapped to her back is a green quiver full of different types of arrows. She walked with an air of confidence that just screamed don't mess with me.
"Who's this?" I asked while crossing my arms as I looked her up and down.
"Everyone this is Artemis" GA introduced as they walked over to us.
She remained silent as she glanced at us individually evaluating each member. I kept my face emotionless and neutral as she looked over the group.
"Hi" she finally greeted once she finished assessing the team.
M'gann was about to introduce herself when the computer announced Wally's arrival.
"Recognized Kid Flash B03."
"The wall-man is here now let's get this party started," he yelled as he ran out of the zeta beam with hands full of beach supplies.
Unfortunately for him he ended up tripping over his own feet causing himself and everything in his hands to spill on the floor.
Artemis peered around us and raised an eyebrow at Wally.
"Wall-man, huh? I love the uniform. What exactly are your powers?"
Wally stood up and stared at Artemis.
"Uh, who's this?" he asked as he pointed at her.
"Artemis, your new teammate" she answered with a smirk.
"Kid Flash, never heard of you" he deadpanned causing Artemis to glare at him and frown.
GA walked up behind Artemis interrupting the two before a fight could ensue.
"Um she's my new protégé," he said while placing a hand on her shoulder.
"What happened to your old one?" Wally asked shocked that GA had replaced Speedy.
I find it very ironic that Roy just so happened to teleport into the mountain at that exact moment in time, its like he knew his name was being mentioned.
"Well for starters he doesn't go by Speedy anymore, call me Red Arrow" Roy interjected.
My eyes widened when I saw Roy walk through the zeta beams because he's changed since the last time I saw him.
He no longer looked like the young Speedy or the boy I used to love hanging out with and considered a brother. No this Roy is an older, colder, version of his former self.
He changed his uniform and has a new name that makes him seem bigger and more menacing, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes once when I heard the name.
"Red Arrow, really, that's all he could come up with," I thought as he walked over to us.
"Roy" GA gasped surprised by Roy's sudden appearance "you look-"
"Replaceable" Roy interrupted.
The anger was clear in his voice, but I was the only one who heard the slight twang of hurt peeking through the anger.
"It's not like that, you told me you were going solo" Ollie defended.
"So why waste time finding a sub? Can she even use that bow?" Roy asked while glancing at Artemis critically.
Artemis stepped forward and got up in Roy's face.
"Yes she can," she snarled at him.
"Who are you?" Wally asked, highly irritated by her presence for some reason.
Artemis pointed at GA and said, "I'm his niece" at the same time GA said, "she's my niece."
I raised a skeptical eyebrow, but kept my thoughts to myself.
"But she's not your replacement. We have always wanted you on the team and we have no quota on archers" Aqualad said trying to resolve the situation as civilly as possible.
"And if we did you know who we'd pick" Wally added.
I Gibb's slapped him and he flinched.
"Ow, Shade what was that for" he mumbled while rubbing his head.
"Don't be rude," I whispered to him.
"Whatever Baywatch I'm here to stay" Artemis snickered at the speedsters.
"You came to us for a reason" Aqualad said trying to get the conversation back on track.
"Yeah a reason named Dr. Serling Roquette" Roy confessed.
My eyes widened in recognition and Robin used his wrist computer to pull up holographic screens of Roquette's work.
"Nano robotics genius and claytronics expert at Royal University in Star City. Vanished 2 week ago," I said informing the team on what I knew.
"Abducted 2 weeks ago" Roy corrected "by the League of Shadows."
"Whoa you want us to rescue her from the Shadows" Robin said getting excited.
"Hardcore" Wally whisper yelled as he gave Robin a fist bump.
"I already rescued her," Roy cut in quickly ending their little celebration "only one problem."
He walked up to the front of the group and pushed a button on a tiny hand-held device pulling up a large holographic projection. The screen showed an image of what looked like some kind of advanced weapon's system.
"The Shadows had already coerced her into creating a weapon, Doc calls it the fog. Comprised of millions of microscopic robots nanotech infiltrators capable of disintegrating anything in their path; concrete, steel, flesh, bone" he listed.
"But its true purpose isn't mere destruction, it's theft. The infiltrators eat and store raw data from any computer system and deliver the stolen Intel to the Shadows. Providing them access to weapons, strategic defense, cutting-edge science, and tech."
Roy deactivated the projection after his explanation.
"Perfect for extortion, manipulation, power broking yeah sounds like the Shadows" Artemis stated.
"Like you know anything about the Shadows" Wally scoffed smugly thinking she didn't know anything about them.
Artemis just gave him a smirk implying she knew more then he originally thought.
"WHO ARE YOU?!" Wally yelled in frustration.
"Roquette's working on a virus that will render the fog inert" Roy said interrupting their argument once again.
"But if the Shadows know she can do that…" Robin said putting the pieces together.
"They'll target her" Roy finished for him.
"Right now she's off the grid. I stashed her at the local high school's computer lab."
"You left her alone?" GA asked surprised that Roy didn't leave her with someone.
"She's safe enough for now," Roy said with narrowed eyes.
"Then let's you and I keep her that way" GA proposed while taking a step forward.
"You and I? Don't you wanna take your new protégé?" Roy growled.
Even though he tried to act like he didn't care I can tell Roy is a little upset about being replaced so quickly; even though he technically doesn't have a right to be. He's the one that left and went solo, therefore GA is entitled to get a new partner.
However, I do find it a little strange how he suddenly has a new partner who just so happens to be his niece who I've never heard of or met before. For all the years I've known him GA's never talked about a niece, let alone one that can shoot like him and wanted to become a hero. I've seen the records of most of the leaguers and she's not mentioned in any of his records, photos, or family history anywhere.
GA opened his mouth to respond, but Batman stopped him by placing a firm hand on his shoulder silently telling him to let it go.
GA sighed and stepped back.
"You brought this to the team. It's their mission, which means it's hers now too."
"Then my job's done" Roy said as he walked back towards the zeta beams.
I'm standing at the back of the group so as he walked by I grabbed his arm forcing him to stop and look at me.
"You don't have to go," I whispered to him.
Roy and I have always been close. Not as close as Robin and I are, but he's a close second. I've known Roy longer than I've known Wally so my relationship with him is only slightly stronger than my relationship with Wally. For a half a second Roy allowed his face to soften and show some emotion before he brought his walls back up.
"I don't belong here," he answered in a whisper just as low as mine was so no one would hear it; well Superboy probably did but he has super hearing so that can't be avoided.
"You have and always will belong here Roy. We're your friends, and friends always belong together. Family always belongs together, no matter what. Don't desert your family just to prove a point," I told him softly but firmly.
He sighed, "I'm sorry Shade, but I have to go."
I looked him in the eyes and saw that he wasn't going to change his mind. I reluctantly released his arm and he continued to walk towards the zeta beams.
"Recognized Speedy" the computer said as the zeta beams booted up.
"That's Red Arrow B06, update," he ordered before disappearing.
I stared at the tube were Roy disappeared and silently sighed before turning away from the zeta beams. I crossed my arms and remained silent keeping my face emotionless until I got a lid on my emotions.
Batman glanced at me before telling the team to head out. Everyone ran off to the bioship and I moved to follow, but Batman gently grabbed my arm after everyone left the room, stopping me from following.
"You ok?" he asked me gently.
"Just fine" I snapped before slipping my arm out of his grasp and flying towards the bioship leaving him standing in the hangar with a deep frown on his face.
Happy Harbor High School
We arrived at the school ten minutes ago and split up to cover more ground. I was in the hallway crouching in the corner with Robin and Wally when Megan established a telepathic link between the team and Roquette.
"Everyone online?" her voice rang in my head.
Artemis groaned, "This is weird."
"And distracting. Coding a distributive algorithm virus on a kiddie computer with less RAM than a wristwatch is hard enough. Now I have to do it with teen think in my skull!" Roquette yelled in our heads.
I rolled my eyes and suppressed a snarl, that woman is really starting to grate on my nerves.
"Lady, do you always complain when someone tries to help you?" Wally asked.
I nodded in agreement. We're trying to keep her safe and what does she do, she yells at us.
"Pot, kettle, have you met?" Artemis joked.
"Hey, hey I do not need attitude from the newbie who drove Red Arrow off the team" Wally snapped.
"That is so not on me" Artemis retaliated.
"Fate of the world at stack" Roquette yelled in agitation.
"She started it" Wally mumbled.
"How about I just help Miss Martian and Superboy patrol the perimeter?" Artemis suggested.
"Good idea" Aqualad sighed relieved that the two had finally stopped fighting.
"You know she has a point KF, it's not entirely her fault Red Arrow left. It was his decision to leave and we just have to accept it, no matter how much we don't want to," I said.
"Not entirely?" Artemis said in disbelief "how about not at all."
"Your timing for joining the team wasn't exactly the best you know. I'm not saying it's your fault Red Arrow left, that decision's entirely on him, but your arrival didn't exactly help either," I answered simply stating the facts.
"Plus you might want to cut her some slack KF. It was her arrow that saved your butt from Amazo," I added.
"What? No that was Speedy's, I mean Red Arrow's arrow…right?" he hesitantly asked after a pause.
"Not so much" Robin put in.
"Well, still not giving her the satisfaction" Wally grumbled.
"You know I can still hear you" Artemis stated.
"Ahhh!" Wally groaned as he slammed his hands to his forehead in frustration.
I stood up and started patrolling the rest of the halls making sure everything is clear in the rest of the building. As I was patrolling I heard Aqualad and Roquette talk about how her fog isn't a weapon, but merely brilliant science. In my opinion it's both. It seems a little more on the weapon side than pure science advancement, but that's just my opinion.
I also heard Aqualad reassure her that we'd protect her when she started to doubt our capabilities.
Again I say that woman is getting on my last nerves. If it were up to me I would've punch her in the face already for being such an ungrateful bitch, but alas I'm a hero so I can't. Its rare times like these that I wish I could tweak the hero rules just a little.
Anyways, back to Roquette being ungrateful and irritating. Even though she was very adamant about her decision Aqualad eventually convinced her to go online and track the fog.
"Everyone be on high alert, Roquette has gone online to track the fog so the Shadows will be tracking her," Aqualad said.
Everyone immediately grew stiff and got serious, our mission has officially begun.
BlackBlade's POV
I was sitting in the middle of my small bed with my legs crossed Indian style as I sharpened my swords. Sharpening and cleaning my swords is a relaxing and calming experience for me. It's the only time where I can unwind and relax. However only slightly because in my line of work I can't afford to be completely relaxed. I have to be constantly aware of my surroundings no matter where I'm at.
I'm currently in one out of the many apartments I own around the country. I have multiple different apartments in different locations for two main reasons.
The first is for in the event my apartment or myself were ever compromised I'd have a place to go on short notice. The second is for assignment convenience. This way when I'm out on a mission I'll have a room close to wherever I'm working. At the moment I'm at the apartment located near the outskirts of Happy Harbor.
I'd just finished sharpening my swords when my communicator beeped from my bedside desk. The communicator is a small phone like device that can't be tracked or hacked and has a circle in the middle so you can see the person you're talking to. I placed my swords down on the bed and pulled on my mask before accepting the communication.
"BlackBlade we have a mission for you" a deep voice said through the communicator.
The figure on the screen was shadowed so I couldn't see his face or make out any of his features. This is a precaution used by almost all of my employers. If I were to get caught I wouldn't be able to identify them or use their identity as leverage.
"What do you need?" I asked immediately going into professional mode.
"You'll be teaming up with Cheshire for this mission. A woman by the name of Doctor Roquette has become a liability and we need you to take care of her. We've received reliable Intel placing the Doctor at the Happy Harbor High School. She's being guarded by the little hero's, but I'm sure they won't be a problem for you two," the man said.
"I don't kill people" I told him firmly while narrowing my eyes at him even though he couldn't see it through my mask.
"You won't, Cheshire will," the man stated before sending me the coordinates.
"Cheshire will meet you at the rendezvous point in 10 minutes" he added as I looked at the map he sent with the rendezvous point on it.
"Coordinates received, BlackBlade out" I pushed a button on the device terminating the communication.
I put on my suit and stocked up my pouches with throwing stars, smoke bombs, hacking equipment, and other small weapons. I put my two knives into their thigh holsters and finally sheathed my freshly sharpened katanas on my back.
If the young hero team is going to be there then that means Shade will be there as well. By cashing in a few favors from past friends and allies I've been able to collect some information on her.
From the information I've been given I know she's an excellent fighter, has a multitude of powers, and is estimated to be around the age of 13.
Interesting enough she's well known among the hero and villain communities, even more so than the rest of the sidekicks, even Robin whose been around the longest.
One of my contacts informed me that an unknown underground organization is very interested in her and want to use her for something big, but for what no one knows.
I opened my window and jumped out, silently landing in a crouch on the ground below. I expertly blended in with the shadows as I made my way to my bike. I revved the engine before taking off towards the rendezvous point.
Cheshire was already at the spot when I arrived.
"Cheshire" I said keeping my voice emotionless and even.
"BlackBlade" she greeted with the same tone.
"Let's go we have work to do," I said before running to the high school.
We hid behind some bushes and waited for the perfect moment to strike.
Shade's POV
"Mmm that boy" Artemis said flirtatiously through the link
"He can hear you, we can all hear you" M'gann said slightly angered that Artemis is flirting with, by taking her angry tone into account, I could only assume is Superboy.
"Oh I know" Artemis said seductively.
"Might want to back off on that one Artemis," I warned while turning around the corner of the dark hallway.
"I'm not doing anything wrong" she defended.
" I'm just trying to give you some friendly advice," I responded.
I don't want everyone to know that M'gann likes Superboy, but I still needed to warn Artemis.
Artemis got the hidden message inside the warning, but whether she decided to listen to it or not I don't know.
"Miss Martian Dr. Roquette has located the fog. Reconfigure the bioship so that Robin and Superboy can pursue," Aqualad ordered Megan.
"Ready" I heard her say and Robin and Superboy left in the bioship.
I blocked out Megan and Artemis's argument over Superboy and continued to walk around the school. All was quiet and still until I noticed a slight movement down the hall out of the corner of my eye. I stopped walking and listened for any sounds. I didn't hear anything so I silently made my way to where I saw the shadow.
"Well look what I found," a familiar voice said from behind me.
I whipped around and saw BlackBlade in his signature stance leaning against the wall across from me.
"BlackBlade" I said preparing for combat
"Everyone, BlackBlade's here. He hasn't attacked yet but if he's here than there might be others," I told the team through the link.
"To late, I'm under attack by Cheshire in the computer lab" Aqualad answered.
"I can handle BlackBlade. The rest of you help Aqualad protect Roquette," I ordered while never diverting my attention away from BlackBlade.
"Out of all the villain groups in the world I never pegged you as a Shadow assassin, Blade," I declared truthfully.
"There's a lot of things you don't know about me Shade, but you're right I don't work for the shadows. My real superiors wanted me to help them out just this once since they have a, shall I say…common interest in this investment. Plus it's a job and it pays well," he shrugged before pushing himself off the wall, but didn't move more than that.
"Killing an innocent person is just a job to you," I growled while clenching my fists in anger.
For a split second his shoulders seemed to sag until he returned to his firm, relaxed, and slightly cocky, but otherwise emotionless stance.
"I'm not killing anyone, I don't kill people, that's a rule I will not break," he firmly hissed not leaving any room for argument.
"You just help the people who do, which is just as bad" I quipped back.
He tensed up and if he didn't have his mask on I bet I would've seen him burning holes into my skull from the intense glare he's probably giving me.
"You don't know anything about what I do or don't do or my reasons for doing them. You don't understand anything," he hissed as his fists clenched up.
"Then why don't you explain it to me" I suggested before taking a step forward.
"You don't seem like the type of guy who'd hang out with, let alone work for the Shadows or any other major villain organization Blade, so why do you. You have talent, I'll give you that, but why waste it on people who just want to ruin the world and tarnish that talent."
He unclenched his fists and his body de-tensed as he regained his composure.
"You wouldn't understand even if I told you," he answered under his breath.
"Try me, I'm know for being very understanding," I stated.
He chuckled and stepped closer.
"Sorry darling can't do that, but lucky for you I'm being called back so I don't have to hurt you if you tried to save the doctor, but trust me, we'll meet again, sooner than you think."
Before I could stop him he stepped back into the shadows and disappeared.
"Now I understand why people think that's so annoying," I mumbled to myself as I walked out of the room.
I heard Wally and Artemis arguing over the link, but I blocked out everyone's conversations until I heard Aqualad say, "We're moving the doctor."
I quickly flew to the front of the school and meet up with the rest of the group. We quickly formed a plan to trick Cheshire and BlackBlade and keep Roquette safe.
Aqualad is going to take the doctor to a local café near our new location while Megan uses her shape shifting abilities to impersonate the doctor. She's going to stay with Artemis, Wally, and I at a separate location. This will draw the enemy to us instead of the real doctor giving Roquette time to finish the virus. I broke off a slab of rock from the ground and told everyone who couldn't fly to hop on. Once everyone was on the rock I lifted it in the air and floated it low to the ground behind Megan and I as we flew to our new hide out.
I sat on the desk behind Megan who was typing on a computer disguised as Roquette. Artemis and Wally were glaring at each other from across the room until Aqualad spoke up.
"Stop it both of you" he ordered sternly.
"What?" they asked at the same time.
"I can hear you glaring. Miss Martian stay in camouflage mode and make a wide perimeter sweep" Aqualad ordered.
Everything was quiet until Black Spider ran into the room. I jumped off the desk preparing for battle as KF ran at the villain. Black Spider jumped onto the ceiling and shot a red web at KF, but he dodged it and threw a trashcan at Black Spider. Spider jumped down from the ceiling and they started fighting hand to hand. Artemis strung an arrow and shot at Hook who jumped out from behind her.
"Don't stop working" Artemis yelled to Megan while stringing arrows and shooting them at Hook making the scene look more believable for the villains.
I heard a soft whizzing sound coming from behind me and my senses went into overdrive telling me trouble was coming. I jumped up and flipped in the air barely missing a throwing star thrown at my side.
I twisted in the air so I was facing the direction the throwing star came from and landed to see BlackBlade twirling a star in each hand. He threw them at me with speed that would make even the Flash jealous. He reached into his pouch and grabbed more stars to throw at me once his hands were free. He can hold up to four at a time in each hand and he threw them with great precision and power. I used my reflexes to dodge, flip, and spin out of the stars path.
I dodged most of them, but one came at me before I could react and it skimmed my left arm leaving a deep gash.
I hissed but ignored the pain and ran at BlackBlade. I waved my hands in front of me condensing the air around me so I had a ring of water swirling around my waist. I made the water surround my arms like I was holding two long whips and swung them at him trying to land a hit. Along with trying to hit him with the whips I also used them to deflect anymore-throwing stars he happened to throw my way.
As I got closer and closer I let the whips fall and started throwing punches.
After he threw his last throwing star he ran towards me as well. I blocked his punch and swiped my foot under his feet, but he jumped over it. I threw a couple of punches, but he dodged them all. On my last punch he grabbed my arm and twisted it around so my back is facing him with my arm pinned behind me pressed against his hard chest.
I have to admit he's smart. In this position my movements are limited. I struggled against his grip so he tightened it immediately stopping my struggle since I knew that I'd break my arm if I pulled any harder.
"I wouldn't struggle to much Shade unless you want to break your arm and pop your shoulder out of its socket. You and I both know that if I pull any harder or you pull against me that's exactly what's going happen. You should just give up now," he whispered in my ear.
"Never" I growled as I turned my head as far it'll go so I could glare at him.
"Hey get your hands off of her" KF growled before running in BlackBlade's direction.
Wally knew he couldn't hit Blade directly because then he'd end up hurting me so instead he picked up something hard and round from the floor before deciding to throw it at BlackBlade's head.
BlackBlade stumbled from the hit but managed to retain his hold on my arms. However his grip loosened just enough so I could twist and flip out of his grasp.
While we were preoccupied Cheshire managed to sneak past us and shot an arrow at M'gann, but M'gann managed to float a desk in front of herself protecting her from the arrow without taking down her disguise.
"Martian's here. It's now or never," Cheshire yelled as she jumped on M'gann and knocked her to the floor.
She was just about to stab M'gann when she let her disguise fall revealing that she wasn't actually Roquette.
"We've been duped!" Cheshire yelled.
"You'll never find Dr. Roquette" Megan told her confidently.
"Never is such a long time" Cheshire purred before standing.
"Pursuing target keep em busy, BlackBlade you're with me" she told her partners as she ran out of the building.
BlackBlade turned away from me and ran after her while Artemis and I ran after the two.
"Pursuing the leaders take the rest down" Artemis said.
"You are so not the boss of me," Wally yelled back at her.
"Just do it!" she snapped back in irritation.
We ran out of the building to see Cheshire and BlackBlade running in the direction of the café Roquette is in. The two split up going in different directions to throw us off.
"Artemis you follow Cheshire, BlackBlade's mine," I told her before following BlackBlade.
I followed him as he ran down alleys and took sharp turns around corners trying to lose me. We quickly arrived at the café and he slipped inside through the back window. I climbed in after him and saw Cheshire drop a smoke bomb in the room.
"What happened to Artemis? She was supposed to follow Cheshire," I thought as I saw Cheshire pull out three poisonous darts.
"Aqualad look out," I yelled, but I was already to late.
The darts hit him in the chest and he stumbled back from the impact. He shook his head trying to fight the poison flowing into his veins.
"Let's test the limit of your jellyfish immunity shall we?" Cheshire purred as she ran towards Aqualad.
Aqualad's reflexes were slow due to the poison coursing through his blood so I ran forward to help him out, but BlackBlade tackled me into a wall blocking my path.
Cheshire quickly knocked Aqualad out and stalked over to Roquette like an animal cornering its prey.
"Doctor, time for my appointment" she smirked while grabbing the doctor by the shirt.
I used my telekinesis to throw Blade across the room sending him flying into the opposite wall and rushed over to Cheshire. I tackled her to the ground and she lost her grip on Roquette.
Chesire managed to wiggle out from under me and pulled out a long and skinny sword from a hidden compartment in her suit.
"Ah little Shade wants to go a couple of rounds" she taunted.
I snarled and kicked the sword out of her hand. I kicked her in the side and knocker her feet out from under her, but she quickly recovered and hopped back up.
"So that's how you wanna play it," she growled before kicking me in the stomach.
She spun her body around on one leg and kicked me in the head with the other. I fell to the ground dazed as she slowly returned her foot to the ground. My vision was swimming and the kick disoriented me.
I struggled to stand and regain my balance as she casually walked over me like I was never there. My mind was foggy and I couldn't concentrate.
She grabbed Roquette again and was about to finish her off when she heard a beep come from the computer showing that Roquette had finished sending the virus.
"So you finished the virus eliminating the reason for you elimination…though not the entertainment value," Cheshire said before throwing Roquette to the ground. She pointed her knife at Roquette's face.
"Lucky for you my orders are clear, you live to program another day. After all doctor the Shadows might find another use for you" she said before turning to BlackBlade who'd picked himself off the ground and walked over to her.
My mind had cleared some from the hit and I heard Cheshire tell Blade to abort the mission and that they needed to split up. BlackBlade would receive his money later tonight. Cheshire walked out of the building and BlackBlade turned to me. I pushed myself off the ground and got into a fighting stance, but I was wobbly since I was still recovering from the hit to the head.
He stared at me and shook his head "my mission is over, there's no reason to fight anymore."
"Well your still a villain so my reason isn't quite over yet" I told him.
"I'm not a villain Shade, not even close."
"Well from where I'm standing you sure look like one," I bristled.
He shook his head again and walked up to me. I stepped back from him but I didn't do it fast enough because he was soon right in front of me.
He put a hand up to my head and tilted it so he could see the side of my head where Cheshire hit me.
"Here try this," he said pulling out a small vial filled with some kind of green substance from his pouch.
"This should make your head feel better," he told me as he opened the vial and held it under my nose. I squirmed away, but he held me in place. I tried to hold my breath, but I had to breathe eventually and when that happened I inhaled the fumes.
BlackBlade let me go and closed the vial putting it back into his pouch. My head immediately started to feel better and everything became clear again.
"See I told you it would make you feel better" he said cockily.
I was completely shocked by his attitude. "First you attack me and now you're helping me, why?"
I stepped out of my fighting stance and stood normally. For some unknown reason I didn't feel threatened by BlackBlade, actually now that I think about it I never did. He's only attacked when other people were around or when he pushed my buttons too far and I attacked him first. But when I'm around him I never feel like he's a threat. My logical side is screaming at me saying that I'm being ridiculous and that he's the enemy, but everything else in me is saying to trust BlackBlade. Which doesn't make any sense since I've only met him twice, and both times we ended up fighting each other.
He shrugged his shoulders "I told you Shade, I'm not the bad guy you think I am."
"What was that stuff you made me inhale anyways?" I asked.
"A secret concoction I learned during my training that heals headaches fast. It comes in handy especially during times like this" he told me honestly.
I heard Aqualad groan from his spot on the floor and my eyes flickered to him for half a second making sure he was ok, but when I looked back BlackBlade was no were to be found.
"And he gets away again" I sighed before walking over to Aqualad. I let him use my arm as a crutch as I helped him off the floor.
Roquette walked over and we walked out of the building together.
"Thank you Shade. If it wasn't for you I'd be dead right now. You gave me just enough time to finish the virus before Cheshire was able to kill me" Roquette said sounding truly gratefully for a change.
"No thanks needed doctor, it's what I do, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of my team" I told her. She nodded and smiled.
Aqualad recovered just enough to see Artemis by the door and ask her "Artemis where's the assassin?"
"She got away," she said softly.
Wally ran up to us "From you oh big surprise. Notice we got ours" he said while pointing to the two villains they were fighting earlier.
They were now floating in the air, curtsey of Megan, knocked out and tied up. KF looked at the ground and picked up Cheshire's mask, which was lying on the floor "cool souvenir."
"Her mask, did you see her face?" I asked Artemis as I helped Aqualad pull out the darts that were still stuck in his chest.
"It was dark," she answered.
"So that's a no," I said bluntly.
"It is fine, Robin and Superboy neutralized the fog and Dr. Roquette is safe, thanks in no small part to you. Welcome to the team" Aqualad said shaking her hand.
"I've always wanted a sister, well another sister, Shade was my first earth sister and I have 12 back on Mars, but trust me it's not the same" Megan said.
"I wouldn't know, but thanks," Artemis said with a smile.
I swung an arm around her shoulder. She was slightly taller than me so I floated my feet slightly off the ground so I was her height.
"Glad to have you on the team. You don't even understand how happy I am that it's not just two girls with a team of boys anymore. Now we just need one more to even the odds," I laughed.
She laughed as well; I could tell we were going to be good friends.
I floated down to the ground and glided over to Wally painfully nudging him in the ribs with my elbow.
"Ow! Yeah welcome" he mumbled before shaking Artemis' hand.
Robin and Superboy landed the bioship next to us and we boarded the ship. We dropped off the captured villains at Belle Reve and Doctor Roquette with the Justice League.
When we arrived back at the mountain I walked out of the bioship and Robin grabbed my arm so he could talk to me. From the adrenalin of the mission and the fight with BlackBlade I'd completely forgotten about the gash on my arm...until now.
After the fight it stopped bleeding somewhat, but now that pressure had been put on it, it started to bleed again. I hissed in pain and pulled away from him.
Robin's eyes widened in concern "Shade are you hurt" he asked stepping closer.
"I'm fine Rob just a little scratch" I said trying to reassure him.
I put my hand over the cut so he couldn't see it, but blood was slipping through my fingers since the wound was agitated from him grabbing my arm. Robin narrowed his eyes as he noticed the blood dripping from my hand
"That doesn't look fine," he said gently grabbing my arm. He pulled my hand away from the wound and frowned.
"That's not a little scratch Dawn that's a deep cut. We need to get that cleaned and bandaged a.s.a.p. Why didn't you tell me you were hurt!" he scolded while gently pulling me into the infirmary.
"Up until this point I'd totally forgotten about it," I said shrugging my shoulders.
He grabbed some medical supplies from the cabinets and used them to clean and bandage my wound. I winced as he applied the rubbing alcohol on the wound and he mouthed a "sorry" when he put it on, knowing how much it stung. He quickly and expertly wrapped my arm with the experience of a trained doctor. With the line of work we're in, you learn how to properly bandage wounds fairly quickly.
"Thanks Rob you're the best" I said hugging him but was careful not to agitate my arm.
Rob returned the hug and when we pulled back he stared into my eyes. "That's what I'm here for Dawn, whenever you need me I'll be there," he said.
My stomach fluttered for some unknown reason when he said that.
I smiled at him "I know and I appreciate it. That's one of the biggest things I love about you, you're always there for me when I need you. Now let's go, that mission made me extremely hungry and I'm craving some of Agent A's lasagna. Last one to the cave has to clean the bikes tomorrow morning" I yelled before flying out the door.
"Dawn that's so not fair" Robin yelled as he ran after me. The rest of the team looked at us like we were crazy as we ran/flew through the mountain rushing to get to the zeta beams first.
We rushed out of the mountain and raced back to the manor, laughing the entire way.
BlackBlade's POV
I was leaning against the side of an abandoned warehouse twirling my signature throwing stars in my right hand as I waited for my payment to arrive.
"BlackBlade" Cheshire said as she walked up the path. She threw a bag at me and I effortlessly caught it without moving from my spot against the wall.
"Cheshire" I greeted evenly.
"I was also told to give you this as well" Cheshire said before tossing a small black package.
"What is it?" I asked catching it with one hand.
"Open it and find out," she purred before slipping away and disappearing in the dark. I grabbed the package and my bag of money and drove to my apartment near Gotham City.
I threw the bag of money on the ground and jumped on my bed holding the black package in my hands. I opened it and my eyes widened in shock.
"No it couldn't be...but it is" I whispered staring at the contents of the package. It's time; my true mission has finally begun.
Secret meeting
"Masters, before Ojo's capture he transmitted the Star labs data you required, but the Wayne tech Intel still eludes us," Sensei told the members of the light.
"Once again the young heroes interfere, so it is fortunate we have an operative on the inside" one of the members said.
"Yes and with our plans finally coming together they will be a very valuable asset indeed," another acknowledged.
"The weapon is almost complete and the crystal will soon be in our possession" another voice said "the power of the crystal will be on our side very, very soon."
The amazing BlackBlade is BACK. So how did I do? Did u like, did you love it, or did u not? Please review. What do you think was in the package BlackBlade received, what is his true mission? You'll just have to keep reading to figure that all out.
