Dawn's POV

Two weeks, that's how long it's been since I found out my brother was alive. Even after all this time I still feel like it's too good to be true. Like I'm in a dream and right when I get used to him being back I'm going to wake up and be filled with sadness and despair once again.

As I lay on my bed in my room at the cave I mulled over everything that's happened in the past 2 weeks. When I told Bruce and Dick about Jake they were…well…to put it lightly, completely and utterly shocked.

At first they didn't believe him and thought he was lying but then he told them specific details about our old life that only he'd know. Eventually they were convinced enough to take a DNA test to prove his claims.

Flashback

"Wait what? Ok I must be going crazy because you couldn't have said what I think you just said. Let me make sure I heard you right. Did you just say he's…your…brother?" Robin gapped looking back and forth between Jake and I probably unsure on whom to focus on.

"Shade your brother's dead and we all know that," Batman said after getting over his initial, however small, shock.

I narrowed my eyes at him "I think I'd recognize my brother when I see him. Even if he is older than the last time we last saw each other, I could never forget something like that. The resemblance is undeniable, its Jake, I know it" I said firmly leaving no room for argument.

Batman glared at Jake probably thinking he'd somehow brainwashed me into believing him or something "we have to be certain before we do anything. If he really is who he says he is then he won't mind taking a few tests to prove it now would he?" Batman glared challenging Jake to see if he'd go through with it. Jake didn't hesitate and immediately agreed.

"Robin" Batman said curt and gruff not looking away from Jake and before either of us could move Robin flipped over Batman and jabbed one of Jake's pressure points making him drop to the ground unconscious.

"Was that really necessary?" I asked placing my hands on my hips showing them how annoyed I was with their actions.

Robin folded his arms "if it was anyone else would you be objecting?" he asked knowingly.

I remained silent knowing he was right.

"Thought so" Robin said as he crouched down and disarmed BlackBlade.

"Stupid rules" I muttered levitating Jake's unconscious body and his weapons from the ground.

"We couldn't risk him remembering the way to the cave if it turns out he isn't who he says he is. For all we know this could just be a ploy to infiltrate our ranks" Batman said sternly feeling no guilt over his actions.

He wasn't about to let some random stranger into his base of operations without taking the necessary precautions. He wasn't going to let his family get hurt just because he wasn't careful enough.

"Yeah yeah I know rules, safety, precautions, secrets yada yada yada," I mumbled as I floated down from the roof with Jake while Robin and Batman used their grappling hooks and Zaphira hopped down. Once my feet were firmly back on solid ground I placed Jake in the backseat of the Batmobile and clicked the seatbelt over him.

"He should remain unconscious for a little over an hour so we should hurry up and get to the cave before he wakes up" Robin said as he flipped into his seat. Batman wasn't far behind him and once they were both buckled in they took off in the batmobile while I followed on Zaphira.

On the way to the cave Bruce radioed Alfred and told him we were bringing someone in and he needed all the entrances and exits to the manor from the cave closed and locked shut except for the vehicle entrance. He didn't want BlackBlade to have an opportunity to escape if this was just an act.

Alfred agreed and after a short drive we were finally back at the cave. I slid off Zaphira's back and patted her neck as Alfred finished filling up a bowl of water for her and she gulped it up gladly.

As she drank she spoke through the link "Dawn do you seriously believe BlackBlade is your brother? You don't find it a little suspicious how he appears out of no where and suddenly proclaims to be your long-lost brother even though you saw him get killed?"

I answered her question as I watched Bruce and Dick carry Jake to one of the hospital beds we had in the cave "yes I do, and in his defense I never actually said I saw him get killed. I saw the house go up in flames and I didn't see anyone escape through the front door before it happened so I assumed he died in the fire, and that was if the goons hadn't already killed him before they set the house on fire. Either way to me he was dead and seeing the house burn was my interpretation of him dying right before my eyes, but I never actually saw him killed in person, so who's not to say he somehow found a way out before it exploded. I believed he was dead because they killed the rest of my family and they didn't seem like the kind of people to show mercy to a little defenseless ten-year-old kid. Plus I don't particularly like remembering that day so I don't spend much time thinking about the what if situations of that particular night. I left him behind once; I'm not going to do it again. I know its Jake, the real Jake, and this time we stay together, no matter what."

"Ok Dawn, if you truly believe this is him and he passes the tests then I'll welcome him in no questions asked" Zaphira said.

"Well you might not asks questions but I sure have a couple, but there's no doubt in my mind that its him" I said rubbing her fur one last time before walking over to the rest of the group.

Bruce had already taken a sample of Jake's DNA while I was talking to Zaphira and was running the test as we speak.

"If I may master Bruce, who is this young man" Alfred asked.

"He's my brother," I cut in pulling up a chair so I could sit next to the bed.

"We haven't confirmed that accusation yet Alfred so as of now that's only a speculation" Bruce said quickly.

Alfred didn't say a word and merely raised an eyebrow as he took in the information before ultimately deciding to walk over to Bruce and help him with the tests. My full attention was directed towards Jake and wondering how he made it out alive that I didn't even notice him leaving my side.

Third person POV

Robin was standing by the edge of the bed looking for similarities between his best friend and this stranger lying unconscious in front of him. The more he looked the more he had to admit he did see some similarities between the two, and from the pictures Dawn had shown him BlackBlade did seem to share some of the same features as Dawn's parents.

His hazel brown eyes were practically exact replicas of her mothers and his height and build reminded Robin of Dawn's father. Robin was skeptical and conflicted about how he felt about BlackBlade being related to Dawn.

On one hand he had to admit that he wasn't exactly thrilled by the idea that his best friend's brother might just be a major criminal/villain, while on the other hand deep down inside he kind of hoped this actually was her brother.

He knew how much Dawn missed her family and how close she and her brother used to be and if this really was him then this would make Dawn happier then she's been in years, and for him that's all that mattered. Villain or not this person could still be Dawn's long-lost brother and if he's important to Dawn then he'd get over the fact that he's a criminal. If it made Dawn happy then it made him happy.

Robin was pulled from his thoughts when he heard a soft beep coming from the computer.

Dawn's POV

When I heard the soft beep from the computer I zipped over to see what the results were. As I flew over Bruce was already reading from the paper with the results printed on it.

"Well…what does it say?" I asked impatiently. I resisted the urge to snatch the paper from his hands and read it myself. Instead I shuffled from foot to foot anxiously and patiently waited for him to finish.

Bruce looked up from the paper slowly and placed it back on the desk "it's a match, he passed. The computer confirms it's the real Jake Parker."

Bruce didn't even try to suppress the smile that appeared on his face when he saw the joy that filled Dawn's.

She grabbed Dick and pulled him into a bone-crushing hug. Because she was filled with so much excitement she failed to notice that as she hugged Robin she slowly started to lift off the ground and spin in the air.

"I told you guys it was him, but noooo you didn't want to believe me. Ha in your face I was right you were wrong," I teased grinning triumphantly.

"Yeah that's great and all Dawn really I'm happy for you, but could you please stop with the spinning and set me back on the ground before I get sick" Robin said sounding slightly queasy.

I opened me eyes, since I'd closed them when I hugged Robin, and noticed that we were floating high up in the air.

"Oh sorry about that I didn't even notice, I guess I got a little too excited" I confessed returning us to the ground before rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly.

"It's all good I understand, but next time try to avoid the spinning. I can handle the straight up flying part but that twirling really made me dizzy" he said holding his head trying to get over his dizziness.

"I'll try," I agreed.

Suddenly everyone's attention was diverted to the hospital bed when we heard Jake groan as he sat up. His eyes were scrunched up in pain and he placed a hand to his forehead.

"Uh my head" he moaned before noticing us.

"Yeah that was a great conversation guys, I had a lot of fun, let's do it again someday. Maybe the next time we hang out I'll get knocked out and someone will have the decency to catch me so my head doesn't ricochet off the floor like a tennis ball" he choked out sarcastically while giving us a weak thumbs up.

"Jake!" I yelled flying over to the bed and smothered him in a hug causing him to flop back on his back from the force.

"You passed the test, you passed the test! Everyone believes us now!" I spat out rapidly my excitement making me oblivious to the finches he made with each word.

"You know I love you Dawn, but could you possible bring down the volume please. It's really not helping my headache any, and knocking the wind out of me from your hug didn't help much either" he mumbled rubbing his temples.

"Oops sorry" I apologized bringing my voice down to only slightly louder than a whisper. I got off of him so he could slowly sit up again.

"Just a quick question to anyone who wants to answer, but was all that really necessary?" Jake asked. "I mean I know you're secretive about everything, but you really didn't have to jump me, knock me unconscious, and give me this splitting headache."

"Yeah sorry about that" Robin said rubbing the back of his neck "its kind of policy around here."

"Yeah I kind of got the memo, but don't worry I don't hold anything against you, you got a nice jab by the way" Jake complimented patting Robin on the back.

"Anyways" I cut in before they could start a long conversation about fighting techniques "now that we've finally gotten past the initial 'I don't trust you because you might not be who you say you are' faze can you please explain to me how you're still alive" I asked plopping myself down on the edge of the bed with my arms folded. Jake swung his legs over the side and stood up from the bed cracking his neck and back before telling his story.

"When the men took you away the night our parents died I thought they were going to kill you too so I desperately fought against my captors. Even though they were larger and older than me I was smaller and quicker, and I used this to my advantage. I used some of the training dad taught me to wiggle out of their grip. I tried to run out the front door to get to you faster but they blocked the exit so I had to find a different way out. Do you remember that small plank in the kitchen wall we used to pry open to sneak out of the house when we didn't want mom or dad to know about it?" he asked me.

I nodded remembering the day we found the weak spot in the wall. It was just big enough for both of us to squeeze through when we wanted to play in the woods or look up at the stars at night against our parent's wishes. We used the hole instead of the front door so we wouldn't get in trouble. If we went through the front we'd be taking the risk of our parents hearing the squeak from opening the door. Every time we came back we'd put the plank back in its original place so our parents wouldn't notice it. Lucky for us the plank was low to the floor so neither of them noticed how it was slightly off-center from the rest of the planks in the wall.

"Well as I ran through the house I remembered it and escaped through the hole just before the house exploded. The men chasing me weren't so lucky since they couldn't fit and were left inside the house when it went up in flames, however the ones that set the house on fire saw me wiggle through the hole and chased after me. If it weren't for them I would've followed the trucks sooner and maybe have gotten to you in time before you escaped but I couldn't risk getting caught again or I'd never be able to get you back, so I ran. I lost them in the woods since I knew it like the back of my hand since it was our favorite hide and seek location and once I'd lost them I followed the road.

I knew my chances of finding the trucks were slim to none, but I had to try. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I knew I didn't at least try to get you back, so I followed the road for about an hour and a half until I came upon the site that I now assume is where you escaped. I searched the area multiple times but I didn't find you or the leader so I assumed he still had you and left the scene before anyone else showed up. I knew some of the goons were still tailing me and once they found their way out of the forest they wouldn't be far behind me. They had trucks, I didn't and I'd already spent a good two hours of my head start searching for you which didn't give me much time before they came after me so I had to make a split second decision.

I knew I couldn't go to the police cause I overheard one of the goons in the forest call one of their spy's at the police station to tell them I'd escaped, and if I went to the police they were suppose to make sure I was handed over to goons before anyone found out about me. I should've gone to aunt Susan's, but at the time I wasn't thinking rationally and was just acting on instinct. When I was calm enough to actually think clearly I'd forgotten her number and where she lived so I gave up on that plan. Plus even if I did remember I didn't want to drag her into trouble by going there when I knew those people were still looking for me.

I wondered around from place to place living on the streets for a couple of months trying to avoid attention and stay two steps ahead of the Black Knights. I didn't know their name until a couple of months ago. I only knew that they were a large organization and they killed my family. Every once in a while they'd find me and try to capture me, but I'd always find a way to escape. This continued until I happened to try and steal some food from a wealthy man I'd seen in the town I was currently staying in and thought he'd be an easy target.

There were only a few rules I stuck to on the streets and one of them was to not steal from people who didn't have anything to begin with. I'd rather starve then take food from a poor family that was struggling enough as it is, but this man had enough food and money to sustain him if I took a small portion of his food supply.

However when I snuck into the house and tried to take the food I was caught. The man had walked into the kitchen without me noticing and caught me in the act. From my time on the streets my fighting had improved immensely and I used my skills to try to knock the man unconscious before he could call the police or yell for help. What I didn't know at the time, however, was that this was no ordinary man.

He was trained to be an expert fighter and his skills far surpassed my own. Our fight was short and he quickly had me defeated and tied to a chair. I thought he was going to turn me in to the police and then the Black Knights would finally have their chance to kill me, but he didn't.

He sat in the chair beside me and asked me why I was stealing from him. I don't know why but for some reason I told him my entire life story from beginning to end and he listened intently not once interrupting me. Once I'd finished he untied me, gave me something to eat, and said I could stay with him and his wife as long as I wanted. He noticed during our fight that I had some skill and with the proper training I could become a master fighter.

They took me in and for the next couple years he and his wife trained me to be a master in all styles of hand-to-hand combat and an expert in the use of all kinds of weapons, although I prefer my katana's and throwing stars. They became my second parents and all the skills I possess today are because of their training and even though they were fierce trainers they were also loving and caring people.

They took care of me as if I was one of their own. They provided me with an education making sure I learned all types of cultures, languages, and proper etiquette so I'd be able to blend in anywhere if I needed to.

After years of training I felt like I was finally ready to start the mission I'd been preparing for since day one of my training; to get revenge on the people that killed my parents and find out what happened to my sister.

My mentors understood and helped me make my suit and weapons. My katana's are actually family heirlooms that have been in their family for generations and are only passed down to the bravest warriors in their family.

The swords were passed down to me since they had no children of their own and I was more skilled then their biological nieces and nephews. These swords were their last gifts to me before I left. On that day they told me if I ever needed anything they'd always be here to help. After that night I set out on my own and quickly made a name for myself as the legendary BlackBlade.

For the past couple months I've been undercover trying to infiltrate the Black Knights so I could get them to trust me enough to figure out why they killed our family and what happened to Dawn, and that's when I met your team for the first time in Santa Prisca. I was on a mission and when I first met you I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew you from somewhere, so I investigated. I was searching for you when Priscilla came and told me everything, and now one tension filled conversation and splitting headache later here we are" he laughed dryly finishing up his story.

Everyone was silent as I stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry about how you ended up on the streets, but I'm glad you found a caring family that could look after you until we found each other again. I hope one day I can meet them and thank them for everything they've done for you. And is it just me or does anyone else think its funny how we both turned out to be kick butt fighters going after the same evil organization at the exact same time. I mean talk about crazy coincidences," I said causing all the teens in the room to laugh while the adults cracked small smiles.

Jake chuckled "Yeah I guess it is funny how that happened, but I wouldn't have it any other way sis" he said slinging an arm around my shoulder.

End Flashback

After Jake told us his story Bruce asked him a couple more questions until he was completely satisfied that he knew everything he needed to know.

Jake and I agreed that he needed to stay undercover until his mission was finished. He'd worked to hard and to long to let all that hard work go down the drain just so we could please our personal needs. We'd been apart this long we could wait another couple of months before finally being the family we wanted to be.

He calls to check in periodically when he's alone and we've met up once in Gotham to catch up when neither of us had a mission.

The night we found out about Jake I called Aunt Sue and told her to come to the manor immediately. She rushed over to the house and ran down to the cave figuring we were all there when she heard how serious I was on the phone.

When she ran into the cave she immediately noticed Jake since he was the odd one out in the room. Just like me she saw the resemblance and came to the same conclusion I did. We told her the full story and she enveloped Jake in a hug with strength even I didn't know she had and cried with joy knowing she had her nephew back. Jake was just as excited to see her as she was to see him and after the big heart-felt reunion we all sat and talked for hours catching up on lost time.

That night everyone slept over at the Wayne manor. Bruce decided to trust Jake enough to show him the mansion and tell him our secret identity's, but not before threatening to hunt him down and beat him to the point where he'd be begging for death if Jake ever told anyone.

Aunt Susan wasn't thrilled with Jake's decision to stay undercover but once she heard why Jake decided to stay she understood. I remember what she said to Jake and I when she finally agreed to him leaving again.

She said "Jake you can't even begin to comprehend how much I want you to come home, but I know this is important so I'll accept it. I might not like the fact that you're working with victorious criminals, even if it is for the greater good, but I'll go along with it. Now you two listen and listen good. You get these people, you take them down, and you make them pay for what they did to this family. You make them regret the day they ever decided to mess with the Parker family. That is the one and only reason I'm agreeing to this, for Sara and Michael. "

I smirked remembering how serious and scary Aunt Sue looked at that particular moment. I'd never heard her voice filled with so much venom and hatred before and it almost made me feel sorry for the Black Knights. They were completely unaware of the kind of fury they'd unleashed upon themselves, key word there being almost.

I was forced out of my thoughts when I heard a familiar bird's voice fill my head.

"Hey Dawn, Batman wants everyone suited up and in the debriefing room ASAP. We have a mission"

I stood up from the bed and changed into my uniform in under a minute.

"Ok Rob I'll be there in 2" was my quick reply as I flew out the room.

The team knows all about Jake and him being undercover, but they promised that if we ever got into a fight we wouldn't go easy on him so no one would get suspicious.

Before he left Jake got to meet the team and everyone seemed to like him well enough. Superboy and Artemis were distant towards him, which was understandable since that's how they are with all new people, but the rest of the team didn't seem to have any problems with him. Maybe when all this undercover business is over with he can join the team. Now that'd be interesting to see.

Two minutes later I was standing with my team listening to Batman as he told us about our next mission in Biayla.

I'm sorry I haven't uploaded in a while but school has kept me busy. But I finally have time to write now since its Thanksgiving break and I get the whole week off *cheers and dances* anyways what did you think about Jake's background and how he became the awesome and amazing BlackBlade.

Next couple of chapters will be based on actual episodes. I plan to have another chapter or two posted hopefully by the end of the week since I have nothing to do. If I don't have another chapter up before Thanksgiving I just want to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! Please Review!
