Chapter 8

Emily could definitely get used to this, waking up in Derek Morgan's strong arms. They hadn't cuddled like this before or woken up together in the early morning. Everything just felt right, like this was the way it should always be. A smile played on her lips as she nuzzled closer to Derek's side. His chuckle told her that he was also in fact awake.

"What's so funny?" she asked, followed by a content sigh as Derek pulled her closer, their naked bodies melting together.

"You... This..." Derek smiled and glanced down at her as she turned her head to meet his eyes.

"How is this funny?" she asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

"I was just thinking and I'm not used to seeing you like that... This comfortable and cuddly," Derek told her.

"Well, I can leave," she said, pulling away from him, only to be stopped by Derek grabbing her arm.

"You get your cute, naked butt back into the bed! I didn't say I didn't like it," Derek pulled on her arm and she fell back against him.

She looked at him through her long eyelashes and leaned closer to place her lips on his, throwing one leg over his thighs. Derek responded to her kiss by opening his mouth slightly and moving his tongue over her lips until she parted them. His tongue slid into her mouth and the kiss deepened. Emily pushed herself closer to Derek, the heat spreading through her body. To Emily's disappointment Derek pulled away from the kiss.

"If we continue this we're gonna be late for work," Derek commented.

Emily sighed as she pulled her leg back, knowing he was right. She glanced at the clock on the bedside table. They had two hours and both of them needed to shower. Plus it would take them about 30 minutes to go there. With a smirk Emily's fingertips started drawing patterns on Derek's chest.

"Then join me in the shower," she asked him, looking at him with puppy eyes to get what she wanted.

"No," Derek said.

Emily wasn't able to hide the surprise in her face. "No?" she repeated.

"I'm cutting you off from now on. You said you wanted to date me and that means no sex until at least the third date. When Derek Morgan is serious about someone he will take it slow."

Emily pouted, but she did understand where he was coming from. Maybe no sex wouldn't be that bad now after everything they had gone through to get to this point. Sitting up with her back facing Derek, she said, "So when's our first date?"

"What do you say about tonight at 9 pm? I'll pick you up and we'll go to a restaurant or something?" Derek suggested, his eyes roaming up and down Emily's body when she stood up. "As for now, I should probably go home so I can get a change of clothes."

Emily looked back to her partner, not caring that she was naked and what it would do to Derek. "That's probably a good idea. I'm gonna hit the shower now. See you at the office!"

Turning around, she didn't see Derek's stunned expression. He shook his head as the bathroom door closed behind the brunette and got out of bed. His clothes were still downstairs so he left the bedroom quickly and ascended the stairs. As he gathered his clothes he got dressed and without telling Emily he left the apartment.

Arriving to work ten minutes before she was supposed to be there, Emily put down her bag under her desk and walked over to the break room. She was pretty exhausted from the lack of sleep, but it was nothing some coffee couldn't solve. Reid was already standing there, pouring some sugar in his coffee. He turned to her as she started to fill her own cup.

"You look happy," Reid stated, catching Emily off guard.

"What?" she wanted to know.

"You're just smiling more than usual," he said with a shrug.

Emily raised her eyebrows. She hadn't realized she was smiling. True, she was happier than she normally was, but she didn't want anyone to know it. Yet. If they did they would ask questions Emily wouldn't be able to answer. She hadn't even gone to their first date.

"Oh, I guess it's just a good day," Emily said, smiling softly to the young genius.

"Really? How so?" Reid asked as he stirred his coffee.
Emily shrugged, "I just woke up on the right side of the bed." Next to Derek, she added in her head.

Reid nodded and walked together with her back to their desks. Emily wasn't sure if the man accepted that answer, but if he didn't, he never let her know.

Derek came in minutes later and Emily resisted the urge to really look at him because she knew that if she did, she might give away everything.

"Good morning, pretty boy," he said to Reid who looked up at the older man.

"Hey," Reid said, his eyebrows scrunching together slightly. "This really must be a good morning."

"What's that?" Derek asked as he sat down at his desk.

"Nothing." Reid went back to his case files, leaving a pretty confused Derek.

Emily's eyes were wider when she looked at Derek. She wondered if this was Reid's way of telling them that he knew, but how could he? Unless JJ or Garcia had told him. Maybe they had. Or the fact that Derek had admitted to making Emily upset the day before, but that didn't have to mean anything.

The couple decided to not keep questioning Reid and instead returned to their case files. Both Derek and Emily were worried they were going to get a case today and ruin their date plans. They hadn't seen JJ or Garcia yet but knew that both of them had to be there. Looking up to the catwalk, they could see that the lights were on in both Rossi and Hotch's office. As Emily looked back to her desk, she could feel Derek's eyes on her so she quickly looked up to give him a smile, but was just as quick to look down again. If Reid suspected something, anything, the smallest of smiles could confirm his suspicions.
With a sigh, she dove back into her case files and continued her work. The sooner she was done, the sooner she could go home and get ready for her date. For once she was actually excited and nothing could change that.

Straightening out her dress, she was finally ready for her and Derek's date. He hadn't told her what restaurant they were going to, but the dress she had chosen was neither too fancy or too everyday. According to her, it was perfect and she hoped Derek would think the same. She did show a lot of leg since the dress only reached halfway down her thighs. Derek would love that. He would also love the red color, she knew.

A knock on the door told her that Derek had arrived. Emily took one last look in the mirror before walking over to the door. This was it. After a deep breath to steady her nerves, she opened the door, revealing a very handsome Derek Morgan. His eyes immediately started looking her up and down.

"Are you trying to get me into bed on date one?" he asked.

Emily smiled seductively, "Why? Is it working?"

"I'm not that easy, princess," Derek said with a grin, waiting for Emily to lock up her apartment.

Emily put her key in her purse as they exited the building. When they arrived to the car, Derek opened the passenger door like a true gentleman and Emily stepped in, the smile still plastered on her face. Soon Derek got seated next to her and started driving down the street.

"Where are you taking me?" Emily asked, her face turned to Derek.

"You'll see," he said, his eyes never leaving the road.

Emily only nodded and stared out of the window in hopes of knowing where they were headed. To her surprise it wasn't towards the city so she knew he wasn't taking her to the expensive restaurants. The sign that told them they were leaving D.C caught her attention and her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Where the hell was he taking her? When she looked back to him, she saw the big grin on his face. He understood her confusion which made this date even more exciting. This really was a surprise.

The car came to a stop 15 minutes later by a forest that was known for its good hiking trails.

"What happened to going to a restaurant? I am not dressed for an evening hike," Emily complained before they had even stepped out of the car.

"Relax, princess, we're not going hiking," Derek reassured her as he exited the car and walked over to her side to let her out.

Emily's eyes were fixed at the trail leading into the wood, a beam of light making it so much easier to see. She barely noticed Derek leaving her side to get something from the trunk of his car. Emily shivered a little in the cold air, her arms going to shield herself. She wished he would've told her to dress warmer at least.

"Let's go!" Derek told her and started into the woods.

Emily watched him walk away, noticing the basket and blanket he was carrying. A warmth filled her as she better understood what her date had planned. Suddenly it didn't seem as cold anymore. With a smile she followed him through the small forest until they came to a stop at an open field that made Emily's eyes go wide in amazement.

"Wow, what is this place?" Emily asked.

"You like it?" Derek wondered as he placed the blanket on the ground.

"I love it!" Emily exclaimed. "Although, I would've wished for you to tell me to dress a little differently."

"Hey now, princess, you look perfect. This is still a date and a dress is the most appropriate."

"But in this cold?" Emily asked incredulously.

"Just say the word and I'll warm you up," Derek said with a wink.

Emily scoffed as she sat down on the blanket, waiting for Derek to do the same and to serve whatever he was hiding in that basket. He started by pulling out two wine glasses and a bottle of merlot which he poured a generous amount of in each glass. Emily nodded her thank you and took a sip of the red liquid. She held the glass while Derek opened the basket again and pulled out a burger with sweet potato fries.

"A burger? Really?" Emily asked him, half expecting him to pull out something like chocolate covered strawberries.

"Well, you like burgers," he said with a shrug as he brought out an identical burger for himself.

"Where did you find these fries anyways? I remember eating them during a case in Atlanta," Emily said as she put some in her mouth, chewing as she waited for an answer.

"And I remember how much you liked them. They're pretty hard to find in D.C by the way," Derek said, studying every emotion radiating from her body.

Emily was close to stunned by the trouble he had gone through to find the right food and the fact that he remembered this. She might even have said that she liked them much better than regular fries. When he first saw him bring out the burgers she had been disappointed, but now she knew they were perfect.

"You know, you could've gotten me something else I like. You didn't have to spend so much time to..." Emily gestured to the food instead of finishing the sentence.

"It was worth it just to see that look on your face," Derek told her.

Emily narrowed her eyes, "What look?"

"Well, first of all I could see how unhappy you were when I brought burgers to this supposedly romantic date, but now you're amazed. You thought I had failed."

"Well..." Emily said, dragging out the word.

Derek couldn't help but to laugh at the look Emily was giving him. He took a bite of his burger and looked at the beautiful woman across from him. They both ate in a mutual silence, just enjoying each other's company without having to speak. Emily moaned in content as the juicy meat slid down her throat. This truly was amazing. Probably the best date she'd ever been to.

Putting down the burger, Emily looked at the darker man.

"So what about kissing? Does Derek Morgan kiss on the first date?" she asked him.

"Yes, he does," Derek smiled.

Emily returned the smile and waited for Derek to move closer to her so he could capture her lips with his. This time it didn't go deeper though. Derek pulled away before their tongues had started their dance.

"No more?"

Derek shook his head, "Nope," was his simple answer.

Normally Emily would've been sad over the fact, but sitting there in the forest, surrounded by the most beautiful dim light and with the man she had fallen in love with, she only felt special.

A/N I thought I should end it there. I'm not entirely happy with this so you can see that I really need help! By the way, I love Sweet Potato fries and I got to experience how hard it was to find them when I traveled to Florida from Atlanta:P
