ChApter 2

Hello... Good-bye... Love you...! Everything starts to sound the same after awhile. Not that Saskia really cared. The people she spoke to weren't very important to her. Running around a place like Hollow Bastion, really began to teach a person how to survive on their own despite whatever age they were at. Stealing was like second nature to her. She didn't fear these things like she should. A knife could win in a gunfight as long as you knew what you were doing.

Saskia wasn't really all that lonely. At least, that was what she believed. Things were actually easier for her in Hollow Bastion. She was moving up in the underground. Her next house was the castle. Anyone could tell you where it was, but no one dared go near the place. Saskia had high hopes for the merchandise that was hidden within it. Even if it gave off a bad vibe. Saskia couldn't help herself. She had to find out what was in there that was so frightening. She would, and at any cost too. She thought back to what Night and New Moon had told her about the place. Though New Moon was a bit high on something she'd "found" at the time, and Night wasn't all that interested. In fact, Night told her exactly this, "Fuck, do whatever you want. No one'll care if ya don't come back."

So again, Saskia had her fingers crossed. She gazed over at the towering edifice from the hill she stood on. Her long, brown hair blown back by the wind, Saskia thought of what all she might do once she was there. Who knew? The whole place was apparently a mystery, but if she came back, there would be shit loads of street cred waiting for her. That was just something that she could not turn her back on. She was the one who was best at breaking and entering anyway. Never been caught, unlike other people who attempted the stunts that she blew through with ease. Her luck was really the only thing she had going for her. She wasn't a good fighter by any means, which was why she had to go about everything a different way, and there was no way she was getting into the drug business. That was way too risky for her.

Yet it really was some food for thought that stealing didn't bother her at all. Saskia shrugged it off as nothing, and never thought twice about it. She was only taking things that didn't look like they would be all that missed anyway. So the castle was really her greatest challenge at that point, and her veins were pounding with adrenaline. She was excited beyond explanation. Saskia took in a slow breath, closing her eyes. 1... 2... 3... She tended to count when she was looking to calm herself. With a quick shrug of her shoulders, she felt ready to go. So Saskia went running down the hill at full speed. Her blood was pounding loudly in her ears, and she loved every second of it. There was no way that she wouldn't love feeling so free with the wind flowing through her spiky locks of hair. She became more careful when she approached the towering castle. She gazed up at the slip-shod building with a slight smile.

Pulling on a pair of black gloves and moving her fingers a bit in the well-fitted and comfortable fabric, Saskia looked back up the castle wall. She felt pretty confident that she would be able to make it up without a problem. Cracking her knuckles, Saskia grabbed onto the stone and began hoisting herself up. She was careful not to go too fast or even too slow. She found scaling walls to be a matter of patience and practice. Safety before speed.

Saskia pulled herself up onto the first ledge, gazing curiously into the window. It was completely dark within and seemed like a good spot to go ahead and go in. She slid her fingers around the window slowly, feeling for how well it was fit into the frame. A lot of homes in Hallow Bastion really weren't that well built. The glass moved a bit against her fingers, and a smirk spread across her face. Lucky! Leaning her shoulder against the pane of glass, Saskia pushed the window into the room without any difficulties. She fell into the room with a thud, almost falling on top of the glass pane that somehow managed to remain in one piece. Saskia didn't really want to test it. She fished a tiny flashlight out of her pocket and turned it on. A startled gasp escaped her when she found herself looking at a tall, pale green-skinned woman dressed entirely in black.

"Now what are you up to?" she asked in a sickly sweet voice. Saskia froze up. So that was where her luck ran out... She held a scepter in one hand, and she gazed down at Saskia with a prim expression.

"Uh..." Saskia fished for any excuse that she could think of, but with a glance to where the moonlight was coming in from the dislodged window, Saskia realized that there was really no lie to explain that at all, "Someone dared me to break in...?" The fact that she made it a question did not help her situation in the slightest.

"Oh?" the woman asked simply. Saskia gave up a slight laugh and the tiniest smile. The woman, however, did not seem amused in the slightest. Her expression remained the same as her eyes swept over Saskia's visage with a careful expression.

"Um... I guess I should bounce," Saskia said, turning. She seemed raring to make her escape at that point. She had never met a creepier person in all her life, and she'd dealt with some pretty creepy lowlifes before. She was just lucky to have gotten away with little more than a scratch.

"Hmm... I don't believe you can. Not after all that you've seen," the woman said quickly, grabbing Saskia's upper arm with a quick movement.

"What!? I haven't seen anything! Let go!" Saskia cried, wriggling in her grasp. She really had a firm grip. The woman ignored Saskia as she led Saskia through the winding halls of the oddly decorated castle. Saskia was incredibly frightened. She wanted free, and most of all, she wanted to escape the woman that was holding onto her and keeping her there.

"Shut up, child," the woman snapped as she led me into an obscure ballroom. Child, that really made Saskia's blood boil. She gritted her teeth, glaring at the regal woman.

"I am not a child!" Saskia snapped. The woman merely laughed. She did not attempt any sort of verbal rebuttal, and it just drove Saskia up the wall. A fat dog waddled into the room dressed in clothes and the like, and Saskia really didn't know what to make of him.

"Maleficent! Who is this girl?" the dog yelped in surprise. Saskia narrowed her eyes at him. He was obviously a lowly foot soldier. Maleficent suddenly let go of Saskia's upper arm. Saskia could feel a bruise forming there already.

"This... This is our new addition," Maleficent said, looking back at Saskia with a cold, calculating expression as if challenging me to defy her. She shivered, her heart jumping up into her throat. Saskia didn't know what she had gotten herself into, but it was becoming clearer and clearer to her that Night had been right. She wasn't going to go back. Something in Saskia died a little when Maleficent looked at her with that commanding expression.
