Dawn's POV
"'Team welcome to Gotham Academy" my voice boomed as I spread my arms apart like I was revealing some amazing surprise as we walked onto the GA campus.
We arrived at GA about 5 minutes ago and had about another hour before the game started. Despite the fact that we arrived at the stadium early there were already a significant amount of people on campus. Most were students hanging out in groups, getting food, claiming seats, or practicing their various performances for the half time show. There were some adults walking around, but they mostly stayed within their own groups either in the stands or by the food stands.
I led the group toward the backfield behind the stadium while simultaneously weaving through the maze of people and pointing out significant campus landmarks.
"Our games have free admission so we don't have to pay for tickets or anything like that. The only thing you need money for is the food," I explained as we walked through the backfield's entrance where the food stands, restrooms, and large open grass area was.
I turned to Wally as we passed by the food stands "but try to leave some for the rest of us ok Wally. We might be a big school, but they're not used to feeding speedsters so go easy on them."
Wally just rolled his eyes before his eyes landed on the various food stations around the area and subconsciously started canvasing the area for the best food stand.
I guided the group to the side of the field where the open grass area was. This was the field where the students hang out before and after the game. It's like the official gathering spot for groups before going to the after parties.
It's a large open grass field across from the food stands and directly behind the stadium which makes it the perfect hang out area.
I was just about to tell everyone that we were going to hang out here until Sasha showed up when I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
I glanced over my shoulder and smiled when I saw Sasha speed walking in our direction. As she walked up I took the opportunity to evaluate her outfit and couldn't help but grin when I saw who she dressed up as.
Unsurprisingly Sasha was dressed up as Black Canary, one of her favorite heroes of all time.
I was actually able to introduce her to Dinah once or twice before training sessions and she immediately made a connection with the legendary hero. The two instantly liked each other so I'm not surprised she decided to dress up as her idol, and she did a good job if I do say so myself.
She had on a black leotard with dark grey tights covering her long toned legs. Over her shoulders was an unbuttoned midriff dark blue jacket and a pair of mid calf black boots were covering her feet. She even wore a black choker with a small yellow jewel in the middle just like Canary. The only thing that didn't look like Dinah was her long wavy black hair with purple highlights instead of Canary's bright blonde hair. However, all in all she looked great and did justice to the Canary uniform.
When she finally reached us she pulled me into a short hug before realizing we had an audience. She released me and looked at the team with a mixture of confusion and wonder.
"Who are your friends Dawn?" she asked while scanning the team with her eyes.
I wrapped an arm around her shoulder and introduced her to the team.
"Sasha allow me to introduce you to the team. This is Kaldur, Conner, Megan, Artemis, and you already know the other two. Team this is Sasha, my other best friend. And don't worry about being careful about what you say around her cause she knows everything, and when I say everything I do mean everything" I said introducing everyone.
Sasha's eyes widened in realization "Ohhhhhhhhh this is the team you and Rob have told me so much about" she said being careful to use Dick's hero nickname instead of his real name. She didn't know that the team knew his ID yet.
I smiled and nodded "Oh and the team knows Dick's name so you don't have to call him Rob when they're around unless you want to.
"Sweet" she said as she walked up to Dick to give him a hug.
"Hey Sasha" Dick greeted while returning the gesture.
"Hey Wonder Boy" she answered, successfully causing Dick to roll his eyes by using his nickname.
"Oh ok I see how it is Sasha. I guess you love Dawn and Dick more than you love me" Wally said poking out his bottom lip in a pout while using his fake whining voice.
Sasha turned to Wally and rolled her eyes as she walked up to him. "They can't help it that they're just better than you Wally," she retorted while playfully poking him in the shoulder.
Wally scoffed and placed a hand over his heart "that hurts Skittles, hurts me deeply."
They stared at each other seriously for about a second or two before they both broke out into grins and embraced.
"Nice to see you Skittles" Wally said once their hug was over "haven't been getting into any trouble I hope?"
Sasha raised her eyebrow and cocked her hip to the side before placing her hand on it. "Me? Get into trouble? No never! Plus do you really think Dawn or Wonder Boy here would let me get into any trouble. They'd be all over it before anyone even thinks about messing with me. Plus they're watching me like 24/7 to make sure I don't do something crazy."
I laughed at her comment but didn't deny it, cause it's true. Dick and I are very protective of Sasha since she's one of our best friends and isn't a trained hero. If we caught wind of someone even thinking about trying to mess with her we'd be all over the situation before you could blink. No one messes with Sasha without releasing the full fury of the Bats, a certain kid speedster, and I bet by the end of the day she can add the rest of the team to that list as well.
In a way Sasha is kind of like Aunt Sue, just slightly more sassy. She has this way of drawing people in and attracting others to her and you just automatically love her.
Sasha turned away from Wally and decided to walk up to Kaldur first. She offered him her hand and a friendly smile.
"Kaldur right? From Dawn's descriptions I'm guessing you're Aqualad" she guessed in a low voice so only we could hear her.
Kaldur smiled and shook her hand "You would be correct. It's nice to meet you Sasha," he said politely.
"Same to you" she said before turning to Megan.
"Miss Martian?" she asked raising an eyebrow.
Megan nodded and instead of shaking her hand pulled her into a bone-crushing hug.
"Hello Sasha! Oh I can just tell we're going to be great friends," Megan chortled while Sasha just laughed.
"So Dawn wasn't exaggerating when she said you're super bubbly, but I like it, it suits you," she concluded before turning to Conner.
She laughed when her eyes settled on him "Ok so mister muscles here has to be Superboy cause those muscles just scream un-human. I've seen many fit guys in my life, but that just exhibits the feeling of superhuman."
Conner just raised an eyebrow and suppressed the grin that desperately wanted to form. They shook hands before Sasha playfully punched his left bicep.
"Loosen up Muscles! We're basically at a party and we're all friends here so don't look so broody, it doesn't fit that handsome face of yours" she said playfully tapping his cheek before walking towards Artemis.
Conner gawked at Sasha surprised that a complete stranger hadn't been afraid to be so bold with him. Megan chuckled to herself since she knew Sasha was just messing with him and wasn't actually flirting with Superboy.
Upon seeing Conner's bewildered face Wally and Dick burst into laughter and high-fived Sasha as she walked by.
She grinned as she passed by but when she walked up to Artemis her joking demeanor dissipated slightly.
"That would leave you to be Artemis, though I already knew that since you go to my school, but we haven't been formally introduced yet so it didn't really count."
Sasha raised her hand and waited for Artemis to shake it. Artemis looked down at her hand then back at her face evaluating her before finally shaking her hand.
"Oh and just so you know I love your hero counter part. In my opinion a normal human girl kicking criminal butt with only her wit, skills, training, and a bow and arrow is totally bad ass," Sasha praised making the blond smile.
"You know you don't seem half bad Sasha" Artemis admitted while placing a hand on her hip.
"No I'm not half bad at all…I'm amazing" Sasha proclaimed before Aqualad asked her a question.
"If you don't mind me asking Sasha, why did Wally call you Skittles if that is not your name?"
Wally chuckled and answered Kaldur's question "Sasha is known for her obsession with the Skittles candy. She always has a pack on her somewhere so I started calling her skittles to symbolize her obsession."
"It's not an obsession" Sasha retorted quickly " It's an admiration. If something as great as skittles exists on earth than why shouldn't I enjoy every second I can with them?"
Sasha lifted her hand and popped three skittles into her moth which seemed to have appeared out of thin air. The thing about Sasha is that even though we know she has skittles on her at all times sometimes we don't even know where she keeps them. It just seems like she's grabbing the candy out of thin air even though I know she's not. She has a secret compartment somewhere on her body that holds the skittles and she just quickly reaches down to grab them, but she does it so fast that it doesn't even look like she grabbed them from her secret pouch.
Her excuse for this is that having a bag in her pocket at all times is too easy for someone to steal, but if they don't know where to look no one can steal her candy. I know it's a little much, but its Sasha and that girl will do anything and everything for her skittles.
"She gets very defensive when you start talking about her skittles" Wally whispered and Sasha sent him a death glare while slowly chewing on her favorite colored candy.
"I swear one day ginger I'm going to get tired your sass and completely snap" Sasha muttered while crossing her arms across her chest.
"No you won't Skittles, you love me too much" Wally answered cockily as he slung an arm around her shoulder.
I rolled my eyes as they continued their usual banter "alright well while you two continue this useless argument how about we find a seat before all the good ones are taken?"
"Agreed" Dick said as he walked forward to lead everyone to the bleachers.
When we walked up the bleacher steps we searched the area for a minute or two for some seats and it must've been our lucky day because we got the best seats in the place. We found a large empty area big enough for all of us to sit in comfortably and it was the first two rows of the stands so no one was sitting in front of us blocking our view. Half of us sat on the first row while the other half sat on the second row.
The seats were positioned so we were facing the middle of the field directly behind where the Gotham Academy football player's side of the field would be. We were perfectly positioned so we could see both sides of the field without anything blocking our view. The fan girl table that's normally around this area was taken down for the day so it wouldn't be a distraction for the big game.
These were the best seats I've ever gotten out of all the years I've attended GA football games.
"This is a great view and you guys really have a beautiful campus" Megan complimented as we sat.
"I know I'm so excited, these are the greatest seats I've ever gotten! And bonus I get to experience it with my best friends. Talk about best day ever!" I cheered causing everyone to laugh.
"I just realized that I total forgot to mention this while we were getting to know each other, but your costumes are AMAZING! I'm surrounded by heroes both figuratively and non figuratively." Sasha commented while pointing to our costumes before turning to me.
"And don't think I forgot about you missy" she added looking at my costume "I know for a fact that you hate mini skirts. Midriff shirts I completely understand, but the mini skirt is throwing me off a little."
I leaned my head back and groaned "Please Sasha not you too! I already got it from the guys I don't need it from you."
My raven-haired friend held up her hands in surrender "hey I'm not scolding you for it, I think you look hot. I was just wondering why you chose to wear it since I know you're not a big fan of mini skirts, but by all means you look good in it. By the end of the day you might even get a boyfriend with all the people who'll be fawning over you" she smirked playfully.
"That's what we said!" Artemis and Megan yelled at the same time.
I pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed as the girls laughed in satisfaction and the boys cringed, but thankfully remained silent.
Thankfully the GA players came onto the field at that exact moment and the fans ear-piercing screams interrupted any other comments anyone had to say. The players had already done most of their major warm ups, but this was their celebratory entrance once all their fans were here.
I screamed and hollered as they ran onto the field and got into the spirit just like everyone else. After about three minutes the noise died down and everyone returned to their various conversations since we still had some time before kick off.
The players jogged over to our side of the field and got ready. Some sat on the bench and drank water, others did some more drills and stretches to keep themselves warm while others tossed and caught balls back and forth for extra practice.
I walked over to the clear fence blocking the stands from the players so neither side could easily get to the other. I leaned against the fence and scanned the players looking for the only three players I knew personally.
As I scanned the players I heard a loud whistle and catcall. I turned my head to the left and rolled my eyes when I saw where the noise originated.
To my immediate left was none other than Bryan Sanders, the guy that gives football players a bad name. He's a constant flirt, has no respect for anyone but himself, and is a total douche bag; needless to say I hate his guts.
When he saw me looking in his direction he winked and whistled again. I shifted my eyes back to the field and continued to look for Alex, David, and Kyle hoping that he'd get the message and leave me alone.
Unfortunately, no such luck.
As I continued to look for my friends I heard Bryan's loud footsteps walking in my direction.
"Well hello sexy" he said lustfully.
"What's a pretty little thing like you doing all alone up there" he asked giving me a grin that made me want to gag.
Unfortunately the fence blocking us from one another was low to the ground so it wouldn't block people's view and as a result we were almost at the same level though I was a couple of inches above him because of the placement of the stadiums floor.
I reluctantly peeled my eyes away from the field and down into Bryan's dark grey ones.
"For your information Bryan I'm not alone, I actually came with a group of friends as you can see" I responded shifting so he could see the team and Sasha who were all staring at us suspiciously from their seats.
I shifted again blocking his view of the team and returned my eyes to the field "now what do you want Bryan cause I'm kind of busy at the moment."
"I can't just strike up a conversation with a pretty girl for the sake of talking" he asked innocently though I saw right through his act.
I scoffed and looked back down at him "No you can't because you're never interested in just talking to girls Bryan, and what you're interested in you're never going to get from me" I quipped.
He grinned and moved forward as much as he could with the fence between us "Never say never sweetheart. I can be very persuasive when I want to be."
"Is there a problem here?" Sasha asked as she walked up to my side.
The rest of the team was about to come over to see what was happening, but Sasha told them she'd go over first and see what was up. She promised them that if it were something serious she'd signal them over.
"No problem beautiful, just talking to your friend here" Bryan insisted smoothly.
"Uh huh" Sasha drawled not really believing him "and what were you two talking about exactly" she asked glaring at Bryan slightly as she leaned down against the fence.
"Just how great you two look in your superhero costumes. Canary and Supergirl are great looks for you. It's funny actually cause you two are dressed up as two of my favorite heroes" Bryan stated trying to sound flirtatious.
Sasha scoffed "oh really?"
"Yes really" Bryan answered as two of his friends walked up.
"Hey Bryan, who are these two lovely ladies" Tye asked as he walked up with Drake.
Both Tye and Drake are exactly like Bryan though Bryan is by far the worst of the three. Tye is the shortest in the group, but not by much since they're all pretty tall. He has short dark blonde hair and green eyes while Drake has short black hair with brown eyes. Bryan is the tallest of the three and has dark brown hair with grey eyes. They're sophomores and all three are 15 so they aren't that much older than Sasha or I.
"Love the costumes girls" Drake announced, as he looked us up and down.
Tye laughed "Yeah, you can save me from a burning building any day."
I placed a hand on my cocked out hip and was about to say something snarky when I felt a few familiar presences beside and behind me.
"Who are these clowns?" Artemis asked crossing her arms across her chest.
I looked over my shoulder and noticed the entire team had made their way over to stand with Sasha and I.
Conner stood to Sasha's right protectively while Megan was on his other side. Wally managed to squeeze in between Sasha and I while Robin occupied the space to my left. To Robin's right was Artemis than Aqualad.
"Dawn you've been holding out on us, you didn't tell us you had such good-looking friends" Drake declared once he noticed Megan and Artemis.
Conner growled when he saw Drake look at Megan and moved so he was slightly in front of both Sasha and Megan, but only slightly so he wasn't completely in front of them. Only enough for Drake to know to back off, though I don't think David got the hint cause he kept eyeing the four of us like we were pieces of meat he just couldn't wait to sink his teeth into.
"Well isn't it just my lucky day" Bryan smirked "Wonder Woman, Raven, Black Canary, and Supergirl to the rescue. I guess I don't have to be worried about getting hurt today with all these wonderful superheroes here to save me."
I laughed before responding, "sorry I'm off duty."
Instead of feeling the sting of rejection like I'd hoped Bryan just grinned "Well in that case maybe we can hang out after the game, since you don't have to save Metropolis tonight you're free to have some fun."
"Not even in your dreams" I growled knowing what he was implying.
"Which you'll be in all night long, best dreams I'll have in a while," he answered slyly.
Wally growled at him "Hey grey eyes why don't you go mess with someone who's actually interested instead of constantly getting rejected and not taking the hint."
Bryan turned to Wally and his eyes instantly turned cold "hey Lantern shut up! No one was talking to you so how about you just fly away and let me continue my conversation."
"Why you little-" Wally hissed under his breath before he was interrupted by Aqualad.
"I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from speaking to my friend in that manner and leave Dawn and Sasha alone. It's obvious they're not interested so I think it would be in everyone's best interest if you just walked away" Aqualad said sounding calm and collected as usual even though he was glaring daggers at Bryan and his two friends.
"How about you stop talking fish boy and return to the ocean. Oh and your Aqualad costume is terrible. It doesn't even look like the real Aqualad uniform" Drake scoffed.
I laughed internally at the irony of Drake's comment. If only he knew he was talking to the real Aqualad in the real Aqualad uniform.
"Can I please hit him?" Artemis screamed through the link.
"You can hit him first but I call next" Wally hissed.
"If anyone gets to take a swing it's me" I yelled before shivering.
"Uh his smile and flirting is so nauseating. It makes me want to gag," I admitted while making fake gagging sounds.
"I could get rid of em," Conner said while discretely cracking his knuckles.
"We don't hurt civilians Superboy no matter how unmannerly and annoying they may be" Aqualad, ever the voice of reason, scolded us.
"No I think we should go with Conner's idea" Robin said softly making me laugh again.
Our discussion was abruptly cut off when Tye grabbed Sasha's hand and leaned her down slightly so he could whisper something in her ear.
Her eyes widened and she squirmed in his hold when he started speaking. I couldn't hear what he said, but from the way Conner's face scrunched up in fury I could assume it wasn't good.
Now don't get me wrong Sasha's no damsel in distress like most girls, but the shock she was put in from whatever Tye said made her reflexes slower than they usually are. She's an athlete and dancer so she could've easily twisted out of his hold and slapped him across the face if she was concentrating, but her concentration was broken so she found it harder to release herself from his grip then she normally would.
When Conner saw her struggle to escape he immediately took action. Conner and Sasha haven't known each other for long, but he liked the way she wasn't afraid to be bold and blunt with him like most people were because they didn't want to set off his easily triggered temper.
He immediately felt for Sasha like he did for me, sisterly love and brotherly overprotectiveness, so he didn't like the way Tye was holding her and he definitely didn't like whatever he said.
He lunged forward and ripped Tye's hand away from Sasha's wrist and quickly, but gently, pushed her away from Tye and behind him and Wally who quickly grabbed her arm to steady her.
If looks could kill Tye would be dead 7 times over, one for every member of the team. Megan doesn't usually get upset with people very often, but even she looked about ready to punch Tye in the face.
Conner leaned down and looked very intimidating with his intense glare and how big he looked when he loomed over Tye.
"I'm going to say this once and only once so pay attention. If you touch or even think about touching Sasha like that again I'll rip you to shreds without hesitation or remorse. You should count yourself lucky I'm not ripping your throat out for what you said to her, which I heard every word of by the way. I better not ever hear that you even thought about talking to her or I'll hunt you down and make you wish for death," he growled darkly causing Tye to shrink back slightly.
Despite what I thought about Tye it turns out he wasn't completely stupid because he immediately backed off and looked extremely frightened by Conner's threat, which he should be. If I didn't know Conner and he threatened me like he threatened Tye I'd be slightly freaked out as well.
It was silent for about half a second before Bryan walked up and shoved Tye in the shoulder "don't let this Superman wanna be intimate you Tye. We all know he doesn't have the balls to do anything."
Conner snarled at him and clenched his hands together so tightly that I thought he was going to draw blood.
Megan grabbed his arm and spoke in his head soothingly "don't do it Conner they're not worth it."
Conner reluctantly calmed down and didn't pounce on Bryan like he really wanted to.
"Yeah your girl's got the right idea holding you back. We wouldn't want to embarrass you in front of your girl and her friends now would we" Bryan taunted.
Ok this kid seriously has a death wish.
"I bet 30 dollars he kicks your ass in 30 seconds tops" Dick said folding his arms. His eyes were scrunched up in a heated glare so his usual vibrant and cheerful bright blue eyes looked deadly, cold, and threatening.
I raised an eyebrow at him "30 seconds? You're actually giving him thirty seconds? That's way more generous than I was going to be. I'd bet 100 dollars Conner beats him in less than 10."
Bryan turned to me and asked, "What do I get if I win this bet?"
I looked at him incredulously "nothing cause you'd lose. I know Conner and I know what he's capable of and lets just say you'd lose badly and be lucky to leave with only a few sprains and a couple of bruises."
Before the tension between the two groups could escalate any further a deep voice interrupted anything anyone was going to say.
"Do we have a problem here?" David asked as he walked up to Bryan, Tye, and David with Kyle and Alex flanking his sides.
Bryan immediately looked away from us and faced his team leader "No there's no problem David."
David looked at him suspiciously before looking up at the team evaluating everyone's angry and annoyed expressions. He lingered slightly longer on Sasha's face seeing the multiple different emotions occupying it. As a result of David and I getting closer he's also gotten closer to Sasha and has come to see her as a good friend of his. Same goes for Alex and Kyle though Alex has known her longer since I've known him longer.
Finally he looked at me before speaking again "Dawn, is Bryan causing you guys any trouble?"
I huffed and leaned against the fence once again "him not really, he just can't take a hint when people aren't interested in him or his friends. What I don't appreciate, however, is his group messing with my friends and trying to pick a fight. Plus his friend messed with Sasha" I said truthfully.
David turned back to Bryan who was giving me a murderous glare.
Bryan muttered something under his breath and took a threatening step forward, but David saw that coming. He quickly stepped forward so he blocked Bryan's path stopping him in his tracks. David glared at him and got in his face.
"I think it's time for you to leave Bryan. Games about to start so you might want to start getting your head focused on the game and not on harassing my friends" David told him coldly.
Bryan and David glared at each other for a good minute or two before Bryan stepped back. He might not like it but he knew David's status and he knew he couldn't beat that. No mater how much he hated to admit it when it came to David he couldn't beat him in a match because David would get much more support than he would and he knew that. Bryan knew his place and David was reminding him of where that was.
"Whatever man they weren't worth my time anyway" Bryan huffed trying to regain some of his lost pride.
"Come on guys" he said to Drake and Tye as he stalked away like an angry defeated puppy with Drake and Tye following close behind.
David watched as they walked away before his stance relaxed and he returned to the carefree slightly cocky, but still nice David.
Alex looked up at Sasha "you ok Sasha? They didn't do anything too drastic did they," he asked trying and failing to hide his concern.
I've known for a while that Alex has a crush on Sasha, known for years actually. I like Alex so I wouldn't mind him being with Sasha, but he's still a occassional flirt and Sasha doesn't deserve to have her heart-broken because Alex made a stupid mistake by flirting with another girl or something while they're together.
So Alex can't get with Sasha until he shows he can be faithful to her and only her. He's been doing better, but he's still not quite there yet. But even though I know he's not ready to be with her I can still see he cares.
Sasha nodded and tugged on the end of her jacket straightening it out to discreetly re compose herself "Yeah I'm fine Alex, just Tye being his usual impulsive self."
I turned to Sasha "what did he say?"
She shivered slightly, but only a little so the team were the only ones who noticed since we're trained to notice things like that.
"Nothing I'd like to repeat" she answered.
Conner's scowl returned, "It was repulsive. How one boy could be so descriptive and disrespectful in such a few words I'll never understand."
Alex's face instantly grew angry as he came to the same conclusion as I did on what Tye said to Sasha.
"I'm going to kill him" Alex scowled while glaring at Tye's back.
David placed a hand on Alex's shoulder to calm him down "later Alex, right now we have a game to win and I don't want any distractions getting in the way of our teams victory. Understand?" he said to both Kyle and Alex firmly.
"He's still an ass that needs to be put in his place" Kyle muttered.
Dick scoffed "which one are you talking about?"
"All of them" Alex and Kyle answered simultaneously.
David shook his head and smiled at his friend's theatrics before turning to Sasha.
"Don't worry Sasha he'll be dealt with after the game I promise. He'll never mess with you or Dawn ever again, I'll make sure of it."
Sasha smiled at him "Thanks David."
"What are friends for" David smiled before looking at the team.
"Ah sorry I haven't properly introduced myself yet. Hi I'm David and this is Kyle and Alex" David said pointing to his two friends.
"I'm assuming these are the friends you and Artemis were telling us about" David said addressing me.
"Yes this is them," I responded before introducing everyone and pointing to them as I said their names.
"Nice to meet you. Your help with getting rid of your teammates was appreciated" Aqualad said nodding at David.
David waved his hand at Kaldur in a dismissive fashion "don't worry about it, Bryan's a piece of work who I love to put in his place. If it were up to me he'd have been off the team a long time ago."
We all looked up when the GA coach called his players into a huddle since the game was going to start in less than 5 minutes.
David turned to the team "well we have to go, hopefully we'll see you all after the game" David said as Alex and Kyle walked towards the huddle.
"Yeah we'll be here," I answered.
After taking a couple of steps back he stopped and looked over his shoulder "oh and before I forget nice costumes. You all look great" he said cheekily before running towards his coach.
Unlike Bryan when he commented on our costumes we all felt good and didn't feel like cringing cause someone was eyeing us. David was commenting on our costumes, because he actually thought they looked good and wanted to be nice and not just because he wanted to get in our pants.
The group returned to our seats and the earlier tension instantly dissipated away like the fight had never happened.
"So that was the guy we were talking about at the cave a couple of days ago right?" Conner asked as we sat referring to David.
"Yeah, the other two are his two best friends" I answered as I watched an unknown student walk onto the field to sing the national anthem.
Once all the formalities were over both teams started walking on the field to prepare for kick off. Sasha and I latched onto each other in anticipation as we waited for kick off. We were receiving the ball first since we won the coin toss so the Metropolis team's kicker was preparing to kick the ball. The whistle blew and the game started.
The kicker ran forward and kicked the ball perfectly and Kyle caught it. It was usually Kyle or Alex who's the person to catch the ball after kick offs since Kyle is the fastest runner and Alex is our best receiver.
The second the ball was in Kyle's hands he tucked it into himself and held onto it for dear life as he sped forward. He zipped past people dodging and spinning out of the opposite teams grasps with speed even Wally would be jealous of. Kyle finally went down at the 50-yard line and the GA crowd went crazy cause the game had officially started.
For the first half it was a combination of close calls from both teams, but getting stopped just before they met the line. As the game went on Wally, Dick, Artemis, Sasha, and I informed Conner, Megan, and Aqualad on what was happening in the game. Occasionally they'd ask us questions on something they didn't understand and we'd answer them, but generally we just played radio broadcasters and told them everything that was happening until they got the hang of the game and didn't need out commentary any more.
For a while it seemed like the score was going to stay 0-0 until about half way through the second quarter.
GA Knights had the ball and David was on the field. We were on the 40-yard line on the Metropolis side of the field, 40 yards from a touchdown. David yelled the special code for whatever play they were doing before he was snapped the ball. He grasped it in his hands and backed up a few paces to get a clear view of the field. His linemen protected him from any invading players so he had time to look for an opening, unfortunately one player got through the side defense.
David saw the bright red Metropolis jersey coming towards him and started running away from the player while still searching for a teammate to throw the ball too. Another Metropolis player broke through the line on Davids other side so he had two players barreling towards him on both sides. David's instincts took over and he easily spun out of one player's path and ran in the opposite direction when he lunged at him causing the opposing player to slip and fall to the floor.
He still had the other player running towards him, but he didn't care because he saw Alex running past a group of red players into an opening. David saw the opening, and within seconds calculated how far and how fast Alex was going before throwing the ball towards the spot where Alex should be by the time the ball got to him.
Just as he released the ball the Metropolis player slammed into him throwing him to the ground, but it was already too late.
David pushed the player off of him and sat up looking at Alex and the ball expectantly. Everyone on the GA side stood from their seats and watched as the ball sailed through the air. We all held our breaths and concealed our excitement as the ball started arching down.
Alex ran towards the ball with a large group of Metropolis players hot on his tail. He looked up and as the ball got closer he lifted his arms preparing to catch it. Seeing that Alex was about to possibly catch the ball a Metropolis player sprang forward and jumped for Alex's feet trying to trip him up, but Alex saw this coming and jumped up avoiding the boy's hands. While he was in the air he caught the ball in his hands and landed on the floor not missing a beat and continued running.
The GA side went crazy as we encouraged Alex on. He ran forward with new vigor and speed quickly increasing the gap between him and the players chasing him.
Sasha and I jumped up and down while yelling at him to keep running and not stop. The team was also excited and everyone was smiling, yelling, and waving their hands towards the endzone like that would speed Alex up even more.
We watched as he ran to the 25-yard line, then 20, then 15, 10, 5,4,3,2,1 and finally TOUCHDOWN!
I thought our side was going crazy before, but after we got that touchdown our side erupted in celebration. The student section went wild like an out of control house party.
People who brought whistles started blowing them like crazy and students waved their blue bandannas and flags high in the air. Popcorn and candy went flying as people started crazily jumping up and down sending waves of popcorn and candy out of their containers. Random students started hugging and high fiving each other not really caring who they were doing it to. Our band in the stands started drumming a beat that made everyone start dancing and cheer even more.
Sasha and I screamed and crushed each other in a hug while still jumping up and down. Robin and Wally lifted their hands above their heads and screamed in excitement before high fiving each other. Megan and Artemis had their arms around each other's shoulders and were jumping up and down together. Conner and Aqualad weren't as noisy as the rest of us, but they still smiled and laughed along with everyone else.
Sasha pulled away from me and swiftly walked over to Conner before slinging an arm around his shoulder.
"You're not excited enough Muscles" she yelled using her new nickname for him. She forced him to jump with her before pulling away and pushed him towards Megan who grabbed his arm and forced him to jump and holler along with her and Artemis.
Conner gave Sasha an amused look and she just winked at him knowingly.
"You can thank me later" she mouthed before returning to my side.
I ushered Aqualad over and he quickly shuffled over to my side. I grabbed his arms and lifted them above his head.
"This is how you celebrate a touchdown Kaldur, you get excited. You can act all composed later but for the next hour or so let loose and embrace the craziness of being a normal teenager enjoying the moment of football awesomeness" I yelled so he could hear me above the noise.
Kaldur grinned and yelled "Go GA!" at the top of his lungs and a group of students behind and around us yelled in agreement and gave him thumbs up for yelling so loud.
I looked over to the Metropolis side and I saw a lot of them were hanging their heads or had their heads buried in their hands. Some of them were glaring daggers at us for celebrating and Sasha, Dick, Wally, and I stuck our tongues out at them.
I know so mature of us.
Back on the field after Alex's touchdown the GA players went just as crazy as the fans. The players on the sidelines started jumping up and down and hollered in excitement. They bro hugged and high-fived each other and jumped on each other's backs. The players on the field ran towards Alex and crushed him in a happy pile. David hopped up from the floor and ran towards his friend. While he ran he jumped up super high and pumped his fist in the air while kicking his legs in excitement before continuing to run.
Once he got to Alex he jumped on his back and tapped his helmet in praise. He hopped off of Alex's shoulders so they wouldn't topple over and they bumped their helmets together while David slapped him on the back and screamed, "that's how we do it. That's what I'm talking about!"
Finally after our celebration died down we set up for the extra point.
At GA our thing for extra point kicks is that all the students wrap their arms around each other's shoulders forming long lines in the rows. I told the team about this tradition before we got here so they wouldn't be confused when it happened. We all linked together and once linked one row would sway one way while the other row swayed another. Each row would switch off on which way they were swaying so one half of the rows were going left while the other would go right then switch back and forth.
We linked up and swayed cheering on the kicker to make the extra point. Our kicker, Josh, ran towards the ball, kicked it, and made the point kicking the ball directly in-between the goal post. Again our side of the stands went crazy.
For the rest of the half our side of the field was excited and joyful while Metropolis begged for a score. Half time rolled around shortly after that and both teams left the field, leaving GA in the lead.
For the half time show both bands went on the field and played songs to get both sides hyped up. The cheerleaders from both sides did a routine and our GA dancers did a separate performance. Sasha actually had to leave to perform in the half time show. She danced with her dance group from school and they did a dance to "All I do is win" by DJ Khaled.
Her dance group wore black long-sleeved cut off shirts that cut off half way down their flat stomachs and a pair of slightly baggy but not too baggy camouflage pants. On their feet were tight black slippers and all the girls had their hair down so it whirled and twirled around them when they danced, but they wore black headbands to keep it out of their face.
Their performance was great and since Sasha is one of the best, if not the best, dancer on the team she got the solo part. She did amazing and the team cheered the loudest when she finished.
When she returned dressed back in her Canary costume the team left the stands but we weren't afraid of anyone stealing our seats cause its like an unspoken rule at GA that when you find seats those are your seats for the game and you can't take people's seat unless they leave the game or say you can have them. Many fights have been started with people who break that rule.
We left the stands and met up with the adults and mentors for a while behind the stadium before the game started again.
They were talking among themselves before they finally noticed us.
"Hey guys," I waved as we walked up.
"Hey Dawn you enjoying the game?" Sue asked smiling brightly.
I scoffed and raised an eyebrow " is that even a question? Of course I'm enjoying the game how could I not? Alex scored a perfect touchdown and we're winning. Plus I get to spend the day with my best friends" I said referring to the team behind me.
I scanned over the adults and noticed they were all wearing blue, black or white except for Clark who was in red since he was going for Metropolis.
Bruce was wearing a pair of dark jeans and a short-sleeved dark blue shirt. A pair of nice but not too expensive black shoes covered his feet. His attire made it appear like he was going for the business casual look. It would be unacceptable for Bruce Wayne to go out in bummy casual clothes cause it just wouldn't fit his image and the press would have a field day with it.
Sue was wearing a nice light blue one-shoulder shirt. The sleeve covering her right arm was loose and flowed with her whenever she moved. The ends of her fitted black skinny jeans were tucked into a pair of knee-high black boots. Her shoulder length blond hair was curly as usual and freely hanging down her neck.
Dinah was wearing a pair of fitted white pants with a fashionable backless black halter-top. The whole in the back went down to about mid-back before going back up in a U shape. Small black mid calf boots covered her feet and her long blond hair was pinned up with a few select strands left out to frame her face.
Ollie wore black dressy pants and a nice button up blue shirt like he'd just gotten out from the office. The outfit was completed by a shiny silver watch on his right wrist and a pair of fancy looking black shoes.
Iris was wearing a pair of jean shorts that went down to about mid-thigh and a short-sleeved light blue t-shirt with the words "Go GA!" in bold white.
Barry wore a pair of light blue jeans matching the color of his wife's shorts and a tight black shirt showing off his muscular arms and chest.
J'onn was in disguise as his human counterpart John Jones. He wore a pair of black pants and a simple white t-shirt with white tennis shoes. He was the most casual out of everyone, which I thought fit him perfectly.
Aquaman was wearing an ocean blue button up shirt and white pants with a pair of black tennis shoes. On his right hand was a blue and green ring with a small golden trident on the top surface.
Clark looked the most out-of-place among the group just because of his contrast in color. He wore a bright red t-shirt with a black leather jacket covering his massive arms. Black jeans covered his legs and a pair of dark red and black tennis shoes covered his feet.
Even though Clark looked the most out-of-place Alfred was the one who surprised me the most.
I had to do a double take when I first saw him to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me and after a minute or two of gawking I turned to Dick, Wally, and Sasha to make sure they were seeing the same thing I was.
Instead of wearing his usual fancy butler uniform Alfred was actually dressed in…civvies? I don't think I've ever seen Alfred out of his uniform…like ever! It'd be like seeing Batman smiling and laughing in a group of people while dressed up as a ballerina. It just doesn't happen!
Alfred was wearing a pair of comfortable yet nice looking black dress pants, a dark blue long-sleeved shirt, and a pair of black dress shoes. A soft white jacket was draped over his arm for later usage and he had a soft silver watch wrapped around his left wrist like Ollie's only less showy.
I gapped at Alfred some more and Bruce just grinned knowing I was shocked by Alfred's choice of dress.
Since everyone in the group knows everyone's secret ID's I didn't have to be careful about names.
"Alfred you're out of uniform" I said still gaping.
He raised an eyebrow but remained composed "yes mistress Dawn I am out of uniform. I didn't think my usual uniform would be sufficient for a football game."
I laughed and shook my head in agreement while turning to the team.
"Team this is Alfred aka one of the greatest men you'll ever meet" I said waving my hand towards Alfred who smiled at the team and nodded his head in greeting.
"It is nice to finally meet you all. I've heard a lot about you" Alfred said while shaking everyone's hand.
Once all the introductions were over Sue looked at our costumes and smiled "I love your costumes, did you get that today Dawn cause I don't remember ever buying that" Sue asked me.
"Yeah I bought it earlier today" I told her.
"It's cute" Dinah and Iris agreed.
"Dawn what did I tell you before you left the cave" Bruce said frowning as he looked at my Supergirl costume.
"That I should look amazing and have a fun time," I said innocently.
His frown deepened, but Clark cut in interrupting his scolding.
"What's wrong with her uniform" Clark asked crossing his arms across his massive chest.
I laughed internally as Bruce sighed to himself. I knew Clark took that comment offensively since this is what Kara wears when she's in uniform.
"Clark Kara is older than Dawn, practically an adult by now so her dress is more acceptable for a girl of her age. For Dawn not so much" Bruce said turning back to me.
"Oh lay off Bruce" Sue cut in slapping Bruce's bicep lightly "they all look good and they're having fun. Don't ruin the moment by going all Daddy Bats on them."
Conner raised an eyebrow "Daddy Bats?"
"Trust me Conner you don't want to know" I chuckled watching as Bruce gave me a playful glare.
"Lets just say don't mess with Bruce's little girl or you won't live long enough to regret it" Sasha whispered in his ear and he nodded in understanding.
"I'm just going to keep my opinions to myself because I know no matter what I say you're not going to change so I'll just stay quiet" Barry said folding his arms as Iris looped her arm through one of his and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Wally leaned over and tried to whisper in his uncle's ear "We already tried that back at the cave, but all three of them are stubborn as mules."
Artemis and I both slapped him upside the head at the same time and he yelped in pain.
"Ok it was bad when I had to deal with you two individually, but now I have to deal with both of you at the same time? Totally not cool" Wally complained while rubbing his head.
"Like I said Baywatch you need to get better at whispering," Artemis said while placing her hands on her hips.
While they glared at each other Sasha leaned over and whispered in my ear "am I the only one who realizes the obvious spark between those two."
Robin was next to me and heard what she said, "no, the only ones who don't see it are them" he answered and I nodded in agreement.
"She might have good sight with targets and criminals, but when it comes to love and attraction she's as blind as a bat," I whispered to her.
As we talked Dinah walked over to us and looked at Sasha's outfit. Sasha looked up and smiled, but you could tell she was slightly nervous being around her idol while dressed as her.
Dinah smiled and placed a hand on her hip "you did good with the outfit. If you looked a little older and had blonde hair you'd be my twin."
Sasha's grin grew to the point where I thought her face was going to split in two.
"Thanks" she said to Dinah.
Sasha looked at Dinah again before her face grew more sullen.
"Um Dinah can I ask you for a favor" Sasha said looking up at the blonde expectantly.
Dinah nodded queuing Sasha to continue.
Sasha clasped her hands in front of her body "I was wondering if you could teach me self-defense" she asked softly.
Dinah raised an eyebrow at the girl "you want to learn self-defense? Is there a specific reason?"
Sasha looked into Dinah's eyes and a fierce determination was in them that I'd never seen before "I'd just like to be able to defend myself if something happens. I've never liked feeling like the damsel in distress and I think it'd be good for me to know how to defend myself in a situation if my awesome superhero friends aren't around to protect me."
Dinah smirked and folded her arms "I'll train you, but be warned it won't be easy."
"I'm not looking for easy, I'm looking for results" Sasha answered immediately.
"I knew I liked you for a reason" Dinah grinned before turning to walk back to Ollie's side, but before she left she told Sasha training starts next Friday. She'll send her the details later.
I turned to Sasha after Dinah left "You're going to be sore for weeks my friend, but I couldn't have picked anyone better to train you."
After about 10 minutes of talking we said goodbye to the adults and returned to our seats. I told Sue the team wanted to spend the night at our house and she grinned in excitement saying she'd cook a special meal for everyone even the adults if they wanted. Everyone agreed so after the game we're all going to my house to celebrate our hopeful win and hang out while eating Sue's famous cooking.
Once we returned to our seats the players came back to the field and the game resumed.
The beginning of the third quarter, however, is when things started to go south. The Daredevils scored a quick touchdown in the first 10 minutes of the half and another in the last-minute of the third quarter.
GA got another touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter tying the game. Both sides fought hard to get back on top, but unfortunately it was Metropolis who scored the touchdown. GA retaliated by getting a field goal and scoring 3 extra points. So the score was 21-17 Metropolis in the lead with 2 minutes left in the game.
Thankfully we had the ball so we still had a chance.
I was holding on to Robin's arm while biting my lip in anticipation and nervousness as the players lined up for the last few minutes of the game. Both sides of the stands were filled with nervousness, as the final plays commenced.
Artemis, Megan, and Conner had their arms wrapped around each other's shoulders watching as the teams lined up while Wally, Sasha, and Kaldur were doing the same thing with each other.
Even though the rest of the team was nervous and on the edge of their seat Robin, Sasha, and I were by far the most nervous since this was our school championship on the line and our friends playing on the field.
I watched clutching on to Robin's arm as David's huddle broke apart and got into position.
Both Alex and Kyle were on the field ready and determined to win this game.
David yelled out commands and was then snapped the ball. We were at the 50-yard line and Alex and Kyle ran forward while David looked for an opening.
Unfortunately for him he missed the large red player that managed to get passed our left side defense barreling towards him until he was right on top of him. He ran backwards trying to get away but was tackled anyway and way more roughly then was necessary if you ask me.
David went down and cried out in pain as the boy came down on him. Our entire side of the field sucked in a breath as we heard his scream of pain. Not only were we pushed back ten yards, but his scream made it sound like he was injured and without David we didn't stand a chance of winning.
The guy on David got up quickly letting everyone see David who was lying on the floor not moving except for his hands clutching his leg in pain. Everyone was silent as our paramedics ran on the field and rushed over to David's curled form.
Sasha placed a hand over her mouth and sucked in a breath as the paramedics surrounded David.
I froze in place along with everyone in the stands. Not only was our side frozen, but the Metropolis side as well.
We might not like each other, but we didn't want any players on either side to get injured. Metropolis wanted to win, but they didn't want to win with our star player out of the game. It wouldn't be worth it then.
The paramedics moved to David's side so we could all still see him, but they could still work on him.
"Get up David get up," I whispered clenching Robin's arm tighter.
The paramedic's started moving his right leg stretching it out and evaluating it to see where the pain was and how much he was in. I couldn't really tell what had happened from the stands, but it was clear his leg was in serious pain cause whenever they moved it more than an centimeter he'd grit his teeth or suck in a sharp breath to keep from screaming.
The head paramedic looked up at the coach and shook his head and we all knew what that meant. They were pulling David!
Everyone on our side of the field hung their head or put their head in their hands in sadness and disappointment. I watched as David let his head fall back on the grass and looked up at the sky in defeat with his hands clenched together.
He looked so defeated, so lost, so dejected, so…empty that I felt something clench inside me. David was not getting pulled, not on my watch.
He'd worked to hard, too long, and too much for him to be pulled because of stupid pain. From what I could see and what the paramedics were doing to his leg it didn't look broken it just looked like he'd twisted, pulled, or sprained something the wrong way and those things can be dealt with. Broken limbs are pretty much unreasonable for untrained people to bear with, but just straight injuries can be pushed through during certain situations and I know David, he can push through this.
No one dared to say anything so my voice was heard clearly by everyone in the stands.
"David get up!" I yelled at him and everyone stared at me, including David.
Everyone's heads swiveled in my direction, but I didn't pay them any attention. I kept my focus entirely on David who was staring at me in confusion.
"Don't give me that look David, you heard what I said. Get up now!" I said loudly, not angrily, but firmly.
No one dared to speak cause everyone was shocked to hear me order David, the star quarterback, the star player, the injured player around.
David shook his head "I can't."
I stood and walked over to the fence getting as close to the field as I could. I crossed my arms and scrunched my eyes at him determinedly.
"Oh don't give me that bullshit David" I told him firmly.
Everyone's eyes widened in shock, but I continued.
"Where's the David I know? Did he just up and leave because he got a bad hit? No the David I know would push through, get up, and win this game for not only himself, but for his school, his family, his friend's, and his city.
The David I know wouldn't let a little pain get in the way of something that's been a dream of his since he was 5 years old. The David I know would live up to the legend of GA's best and youngest quarterback in years and would win this thing. That's the David I know.
Now is the David in front of me still the David I know determined, strong, self-sacrificing, and unstoppable, or is this a new David whose going to let a hit take away his life long dream."
I watched as David's eyes gradually changed as I spoke to him. His eyes changed from defeated and empty to full of determination and energy.
One of the paramedics frowned at me "alright lady that's enough, can't you see that he's hurt! He's in no condition to…"
"No" David interrupted softly, but loud enough for everyone to hear him cutting off the paramedic.
"Excuse me?" the paramedic asked.
"I said no, she's right. I'm a fighter, I push through things and I'm not going to let a hit stop me from my dream" David said while slowly sitting up.
The paramedics backed away slightly giving him room to move if he wished and slowly but surely David stood from the ground until he was back on his own two feet standing on his own. His right leg was a little wobbly, but he could stand and he could play.
When he stood everyone in the stadium erupted into cheer and applause. He stood there looking at the stadium taking in the cheering and hollering letting it fill him and remind him what he was fighting for.
I smiled and once the crowd died down I spoke to David once again.
"Who are we!" I yelled at him and he immediately answered.
"GA Knights!"
"Who are we!" I yelled louder this time.
"GA Knights!" he yelled getting louder as well.
"I SAID WHO ARE WE!" I yelled the loudest I've ever yelled.
He raised his hand above his head and screamed "GA KNIGHTS!"
I nodded at him "then go show em why people should fear the Knights" I said and he nodded before slowly jogging over to his teammates and the stadium once again erupted into cheers.
I turned to the stands and faced my schoolmates as they all cheered and screamed at me.
I smiled and got ready to get everyone more hyped up.
I lifted my arms and screamed "Who are we?!"
"GA Knights!" everyone screamed in response.
"Who are we?!"
"GA Knights!"
I jumped up and screamed "I SAID WHO ARE WE?!"
"GA KNIGHTS!" Everyone yelled as the team lined up again.
"Now that's what I'm talking about!" I hollered returning to my seat.
Everyone was still cheering and screaming when the players lined up once again and now we only had 50 seconds left in the game.
Everyone watched as David called out commands and was snapped the ball. Our line was bound and determined to stay strong and not let anyone through this time. I guess my pep talk wasn't just for David, but for the whole team. I'd successfully filled every member on the field with determination and energy. If David could play with a hurt leg they could play exceptionally too.
Not one Metropolis player made it through our line giving David enough time to plan out his next move. Kyle couldn't get an opening, but Alex was able to break away from the group following him and was at the 50-yard line when David threw the ball at him.
40 seconds left
We all stood from our seats as the ball whizzed through the air with Alex running after it.
30 seconds left and 45 yards to go
Alex caught the ball at the 40 yard line and continued running.
20 seconds left
Our side went crazy and ushered Alex on as the reds behind him started closing in.
20-yard line, 10 seconds left
The reds were closing in and one player had almost caught up to Alex.
10 yards 7 seconds
9 yards, 8 yards, 7, 6, 5 with 5 seconds left
The red player lunges for Alex, but Alex jumps forward and it all played out like a movie in slow motion.
4 seconds, 3 seconds, 2, 1, 0 end of time
The red player misses Alex's feet and Alex falls in the end zone scoring the touchdown at the very last second of the game.
Touchdown!
Everyone going for GA screamed and jumped up and down in excitement.
We Won! We Won! We Won!
I hugged Robin and he hugged me back while we both screamed our heads off. While we hugged we were both so energized that he picked me up and spun me around.
The rest of the team went crazy along with the entire GA student body.
The Metropolis students were disappointed, but they couldn't really be mad at us because of how determined we were and after the scene they just saw with me forcing David to get up and play after getting injured, and then seeing our last play they had to admit we deserved to win this game.
Since David couldn't do a lot of running at the moment the team rushed to him instead. Every player including everyone on the sidelines rushed to the center of the field where David was on his knees with his hands above his head screaming with joy. He barely realized all the people around him until Alex and Kyle pretty much tackled him to the ground, but they were still careful about his leg.
Our coach cheered in delight along with his players and laughed when they poured a large tub of Gatorade over his head.
I turned to the team after they'd died down in their celebration and everyone looked at me strange.
"What" I asked looking from face to face.
"How did you do that?" Megan asked
"Do what?" I asked again.
"Don't play dumb Dawn, you know exactly what were talking about" Artemis said crossing her arms.
"How did you get David to get back up? We're heroes we know when an injuries bad and that…" she pointed to the field where David was lying on the floor a couple of minutes ago "…was bad, so how did you get him up" she asked.
I looked at the field and how everyone was celebrating our victory before turning back to the team. I pointed to the players on the field and the students in the stands and said, "That's why."
"As you can see David had the ability to get up and play he just needed the right push, but no one was going to blatantly yell at him to get up because they were either too shocked or didn't know him well enough to do so. I know how much he wanted this so I only reminded him of what he had inside himself like someone once did for me" I said smiling while slyly looking at Robin out of the corner of my eye.
The team smiled and we started walking down the stairs to wait for the adults to go to my house when I was suddenly pulled away from the team. A large group of students lifted me on their shoulders and started cheering my name.
"What's going on?" I asked as the crowd carried me to the field.
The team ran forward and followed the group, but didn't get me down. I guess Megan read people's minds or something to figure out what they were doing because they all just followed with grins on their faces.
"A little help here guys" I asked, as they were able to push up right next to the people holding me up.
Dick just grinned up at me "nope" he said popping the P.
"I'm so going to get you for this later" I scowled while he just chuckled.
The crowd dragged me to the middle of the field before gently letting my feet return to the ground.
The crowd parted as everyone split so I was able to see the football team and the referee holding up the large gold championship trophy.
Alex and Kyle hopped off the podium stage and walked up to me. They gently grabbed my arms and dragged me up to the podium were the rest of the team, referee, and coach were standing.
"Um what's going on" I asked when they released my arms.
"We're celebrating" Alex answered.
I raised an eyebrow at him before looking out at the large group of students watching "ok maybe I should rephrase. Why am I up here?" I asked pointing to the podium beneath my feet.
The GA coach, Mr. Smith, finally walked up to stand in front of me. He was a tall chocolate skinned bald-headed man who was fit and in shape. You could tell he went to the gym multiple times a week and everyone at GA knows he's very dedicated and passionate about football as a sport, but also cares for his players like they're his family.
"You're celebrating because you're a part of this team and the rule is when we win everyone on the team celebrates on the podium" Mr. Smith said like that explained it all.
I laughed "sorry to burst your bubble sir but I'm not a guy or a part of this football team, so I don't see why I belong up here" I said being polite as I could.
Mr. Smith shook his head "No you are a apart of this team. What you did at the end of the game is the only reason we're in this situation in the first place. No one, not even me, had the guts to yell at David and force him to dig deep and get up. We all listened to the paramedic's and immediately gave up, but you… you didn't. You believed in not only David, but in these players and this school so in my book that makes you an honorary team member."
David walked up even though he had a slight limp in his right leg.
"You all right?" I asked seeing his limp.
He shrugged "I'll survive. As a good friend of mine once said I can't let a small hit get in the way of my dreams" he smirked before hugging me.
Alex and Kyle soon joined in and it turned into a large group hug.
"Ok guys I love you and all, but I'm getting squished here" I said gasping to breath.
They released me and David went up to the referee to grab the trophy. He grabbed the trophy and stared at it in his hands for a couple of seconds enjoying the moment before walking back over to me.
He held the trophy out and waited for me to take it.
"Here, you deserve to be one of the first to hold it since you're the reason we have it in the first place" he said forcing the trophy into my hands when I tried to refuse it.
I looked down the trophy in my hands and grinned before turning to the large crowd in front of me and said our school chant.
"Who are we?" I yelled.
"GA Knights!" everyone screamed
"Who are we!" I yelled again
"GA Knights!" they screamed back
"Oh come on you guys I know you can do better than that. That wasn't convincing at all! I said WHO ARE WE?!" I screamed while lifting the trophy above my head for everyone to see.
"GA KNIGHTS!" The crowed screamed back lifting their hands above their heads.
We screamed so loud I'm pretty sure the earth shook.
I turned and gave the trophy to Alex for him to hold.
Mr. Smith turned to me just before I left the podium "If you ever need anything Dawn and I do mean anything, just ask." I nodded and told him I'd keep that in mind before walking over to the team.
"Well that was eventful" Sasha said as we walked through the crowd towards the part of the backfield where we were going to meet the adults.
"Yeah and weird, I just gave him a pep talk it wasn't that big of a deal" I said nonchalant.
"Not a big deal? You basically gave the entire team motivation to keep going and not give up. If you didn't speak up and give him that pep talk we wouldn't have won." Artemis said matter of factly.
I just shrugged it off and didn't think about it until we finally reached the adults. While we walked towards my house we all started talking.
"Who knew you were such a great motivational speaker Dawn. Maybe you should look into that as a profession" Barry said ruffling my hair before I moved out of his reach.
"Yeah Dawn you even had me feeling bad for thinking the game was over when they said they were pulling him. I couldn't even imagine how he and the team felt if that was how I was feeling" Ollie said shaking his head.
"I did what I thought was best and it worked, end of story now can we please stop talking about it" I said as we walked up to my front door.
Everyone failed to notice Bruce looking at me suspiciously since he was slightly in the dark and remained silent.
We walked inside and Sue immediately walked towards the kitchen. She made a wonderful dinner and everyone ate in the living room. For a while we ate, played games, and just had fun hanging out as a normal group instead of a group of trained superhero's.
Sasha was even allowed to come over and be a part of the fun. Her parents allowed her to spend the night only after she talked to Sue and I about the other people who would be there and having us reassure them multiple times that the team was trustworthy.
After about an hour of eating and catching up the adults left leaving the teens in the living room. Sue went to bed after the adults left and told us to make sure to turn off all the lights and lock up before we went to bed.
We promised to do so even though if we left the doors wide open and left all the lights on this house would still be one of the safest in the city with all the heroes sleeping in it.
We stayed up for another hour before deciding to head to bed. Sasha and I slept in my bed since it could fit two people and I pulled out the extra pull out bed that was under my bed allowing Arty and Megan to sleep on it. Robin and Wally brought in an extra mattress and some blankets to sleep on while Conner and Kaldur brought in the pull out couch from the other room. My room was large enough for all of it to fit without any of us being cramped.
"This was a great night guys I'm glad you all came," I said as my eyes started fluttering shut.
"Yeah it was fun," Megan said before yawning.
"Yes and you're all amazing, we have to spend more time together" Sasha said before finally falling asleep.
"Agreed" I heard Wally whisper before everyone fell asleep finally giving in to the exhaustion of the day.
Done! I know it's been AGES since I posted but I hope this super long chapter makes up for it. It took me forever to figure out how I wanted to do this chapter so I just kept putting it off cause I didn't know what I wanted to do with it, but I finally forced myself to sit and just start writing whatever came to mind. It actually turned out better than I originally thought and half the stuff in this chapter just came out of nowhere.
I didn't even plan the David getting hurt scene until my hands decided to have a mind of their own and I just went with it cause it sounded good. Looking back at it I loved it and stuck with it!
Next chapter will be getting back to the YJ storyline and looking at the next episode I totally forgot Wally broke his arm in the fight in the Revelations episode and completely didn't mention it here. So in the next chapter just pretend Wally got hurt on another mission so it works in this story, sorry for the confusion. As always please R&R!
