I am not afraid to keep on living.
-My Chemical Romance, Famous Last Words.
"C-clare…. What?" were the first thing that came out of Eli's mouth. Adam stood to the side, gaping at her with a similar expression. Shock. What the hell was this girl thinking? Had she gone insane? She remained unmoving, as if she hadn't even heard them.
Again, she said, "I need to see Fitz." Adam scratched the back of his head, and Eli merely scowled at her. "Why the hell would you need to do that?" Eli practically bellowed. Clare flinched slightly at his tone, but took to twirling a curl between her fingers. She looked down at the white bedsheet laid over her, and frowned. "I think… it will help me," She said softly. Knowing Eli and Adam were about to argue, she continued. "I want him to see that I'm not as badly broken as he thinks I am. Yes, I know I still need plenty of help, but I think seeing him will make what he did easier to process. That I'm the one in power, that he can't bring me down. Let him see that he didn't win."
Eli propped his head in his hands as he looked at her, then at Adam, who was tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Well," Adam said suddenly. "Let her do it, man. It kinda makes sense what she's saying." As Eli cocked his head in confusion, Adam pointed to himself. "When I first became Adam, my mom didn't want to accept it as reality. She kept insisting that I was Gracie, even when I knew who I really was. Then I stood up for myself, and it changed everything. Yeah, she still missed Gracie. Though, she finally moved on. She accepted me. Adam."
His blue eyes twinkled sadly as he stared at Clare. Eli tapped his thumbs together, trying to think of something to say. Something that could make Clare see how much he wanted to protect her, how much she had scared him. "How do we know that this," He pointed to her bandaged wrists, "won't happen again?" His jade-green eyes locked on her icy blues and her look of hope faltered slightly. They didn't know. She didn't know. One thing she was for certain though, was that seeing Fitz would help ease all the emotions bottled up inside her immensely.
"Can't you trust me," She whispered, not only asking them, but herself. Their faces softened slightly, and Eli sighed heavily. He wanted so, very badly to be able to, but all he could see in his head was her. Lying on the floor, in blood. It was hard to pick up the pieces and move on from something like that. Especially since it happened yesterday.
"Clare… you're not thinking clearly. You're overwhelmed." Eli tried, anxious for her to give up, even though he knew why she wanted to do it. Anger flashed in her eyes, turning them a stormy blue. "Really, Eli? It's not like I'm about to go run out and drive my hearse into a wall," she spat venomously. Adam and Eli widened their eyes at her sudden mood change, and Adam stepped slightly back.
"Uh, Clare… low blow, dude." Adam laughed sheepishly, but shut up as she glared daggers at him. "I'm not overwhelmed, Elijah." He winced at the use of his full name. "I was overwhelmed when I decided to take a razorblade to my wrists and cut them open! I'm certainly fine and dandy now! I just want him out of my head!" She shrieked the last part, causing a nurse to come in and check her vitals. "Clare…" Adam said quietly. She whipped her head around to face him.
"We just… we just want to protect you. Can we just you know, be with you? If you really want to go through with visiting Fitz." Clare sighed deeply, and closed her eyes for what seemed like forever, before opening them again. "If it really means that much to you, fine. But you don't get to talk." Adam and Eli nodded furiously in agreement. Another nurse suddenly popped in, along with the doctor. He strode up to her, clipboard in hand. "Well, uh, Ms. Edwards. It seems like you're free to go. Someone will be checking in on you periodically, to prevent something like this from happening again." He looked down at the small girl, and then at the two boys beside her.
"So, who will I be releasing you to?" He asked kindly, causing Clare to look down in shame. Before she could answer, however, Eli piped up. "You can release her to me. My parents offered to take care of her, as her parents are out of town." Clare had to admit, Eli was a very smooth liar.
Which was scary and impressive at the same time. But he would never lie to her. The doctor scratched his head slightly in confusion, but nodded. "Alrighty-o, Mr. Goldsworthy. Just sign here," Eli did as instructed, and the doctor handed him a sheet of paper. "Just walk Ms. Edwards to the front desk after she's done changing, and she'll be checked out there." Eli nodded in confirmation, and the doctor left.
"So. Um. Adam could really go for a milkshake right about now?" Adam said, hopefully. Eli and Clare chuckled in response, unable to contain their amusement at how childish he sounded. "Yeah, okay. Let's go to the Dot." Clare got up to go get dressed back into her normal clothes, and Adam and Eli went to the waiting room to wait.
A few minutes later, Clare strode into the room, and both of them smiled at her. She wore a black 'Dead Hands' hoodie, courtesy of Eli, to hide her bandages. Even after all this chaos, all this disaster, Eli thought she couldn't look more beautiful if she tried. He took her hand in his, and the trio walked out of the hospital to Morty.
They got in, and Eli proceeded to drive them to the Dot. Jokes were tossed around during the ride, and before they knew it, they had arrived at their destination. The three of them walked into the little café, and sat down at their usual table. Engaging in some playful banter, the three didn't realize that someone had walked towards them. They all stopped and turned towards the person, as they said, "Well, hello, Clare. Eli. Adam." Clare, Eli and Adam stopped dead in their tracks as Clare squeaked out, "W-what are you doing here?!"
Muahahaha. I decided to leave it at a cliffy. So, who do you think the mysterious person is? Haha, it's kind of obvious, It's Fitz, but I added a little twist to the story. So here's a little poll for what should happen in the next chapter.
Should Eli proceed to beat the hell out of Fitzy boy? Without hearing why he's there?
Should Clare call the Police?
Or should she stand up to him right then and there, and THEN call the police?
Orr… should Adam throw his drink at Fitz, and they all dine'n'dash? LOl.
Let me know in a review, reviews are appreciated, people! :D
