Chapter 27: The Aftermath

Irvin clicked the safety into place and holstered his gun. Sapphire eyes darted around the room as he finally inspected the place they were in and assessed the damage.

It was a large place, circular in shape, with pillars that supported the flat ceiling. Strips that were set into the floor produced light, more than enough to see clearly. A raised platform and throne sat in front of him, but the throne was empty. Fragments of stone littered the floor from where grenades had torn apart the support pillars. Some of the lights had been broken. Empty canisters of tear gas and more littered the ground, along with bullet shells and handheld weapons.

Many bodies littered the ground, a mixture of cream-colored robes and navy police uniforms. Pools of blood, like black oil in the light, had formed around their bodies. Officers edged around the robed figures on the ground. They nudged and checked for pulses. So far, none of those on the ground seemed to be alive.

Irvin glanced at the woman next to him. She was vaguely familiar, with blonde hair pulled back into a severe bun. Her frigid blue eyes stared at the bodies, sadness and pain visible. No shackles bound her wrist, nor were any police keeping her in place with the threat of shooting her. Annie Leonhart – the same woman who had called him and informed him of the location of the Titans, the children, Levi and Eren – stood beside him. She looked up at him and blankness filled her face, efficiently masking her emotions. "Some of them escaped."

Irvin nodded. It wasn't a surprise. The force hadn't exactly aimed for subtlety when they forced their way in. Luckily, all of the children were accounted for. What was even better was that none were dead. Yet. "Will you be able to help us find the ones that escaped?"

Annie bit her lip but nodded after a moment. "I can… but I have one condition."

A thick, blonde eyebrow arched up. "If you're going to ask for amnesty for one of them, I cannot guarantee it. I can't even guarantee amnesty for you."

Annie shook her head. Their blue eyes found and held each other, both completely serious. "Not for me or the ones who were here… There are two former members. They managed to get out and are only loosely tied to the Titans. They don't help. They aren't involved. If you can promise me that they won't be tried and executed, I'll help you find the rest."

Irvin searched Annie's eyes. Honesty lurked there. None of the usual ticks for lying were evident. He stretched one hand out. "I swear that I'll do everything I can to make sure that those two aren't dragged in. Their names are…?"

Her hand tentatively touched his. It was small and thin, just like her, but Irvin had watched her tackle a tall, black-haired boy nearly twice her size. The bones breaking in his arm and his scream had been audible over the gunfire. "Christa Lenz and Ymir. I'll look at the dead and see who is missing."

"Alright, I'll inform my men. One last question; where are Eren and Levi?"

Annie grimaced and turned away from Irvin. "I told them to leave. But Eren, that suicidal bastard, said that he had to talk to his father. I told them which was to go. They're probably still down there. Or lost. I should go find them."

Irvin stared at her in disbelief, but she didn't notice. Why the hell didn't she stop them? What if they're both dead now because of that? For a moment, he entertained the possibility that Annie had done something to the two men, that she had killed them. That was dismissed almost immediately. After all, why would she kill them and then bring the force in to annihilate the other Titans? That possibility made little to no sense. "I'll get some other officers to go with you." They certainly had enough. Thirty had gone down into the Titan's lair. Four were dead and seven were injured, five of which were serious.

"Chief! Chief, we've found the detective!" Heads snapped over to the sound of the voice. Across the room, to the left of the throne, a man stood by one of the doors. He waved frantically and several other men immediately rushed forward. Before they could reach the doorway, two figures stumbled through. Well, one figure stumbled through. The other figure was cradled in the other's arms.

Eren looked exhausted, but determined to keep walking, even if his steps were uneven and far from steady. He held Levi in his arms, an unmoving, limp bundle of limbs and cloth. Blood coated Eren's chest and his shirt. Some of it was smeared across Levi's from and side. Irvin's breath caught in his throat. Is Levi dead? The raven-haired man shifted a little and one arm fell down to dangle freely in the air. That one little movement brought a wave of relief to Irvin. Too many good people have died because of the Titans. Eren and Levi won't be another statistic. Not today.

Irvin met Eren halfway across the room. The chestnut-haired man stopped and gazed at Irvin, his face blank for once. Levi's eyes were shut, but his chest still rose and fell – unconscious perhaps. "Glad you made it," Eren rasped. He shifted Levi in his arms. "I thought we'd have to deal with everyone on our own."

Irvin shook his head. "No, not this time. We would have shown up sooner, but everyone was spread out. Are either of you hurt?"

"I think Levi's ankle is shattered." Irvin eyed the blood on Eren's shirt. "I'm fine, don't worry about me." Eren must have seen Irvin's gaze fix on the bloody shirt.

"Alright, the EMS will be here in a few minutes. One of the officers will help you outside. Dawson!" An officer darted over and looked expectantly between Irvin and Eren. "Take these two up and make sure they receive immediate medical help."

Dawson nodded and glanced at Eren. "Do ya need some help with him?"

Eren hugged Levi closer to him and shook his head. "I've got him."

Irvin watched as Dawson led Eren out, his pace slow to match Eren's staggering steps. As soon as they disappeared behind another set of doors, Irvin turned back to face the room. There's a lot of work to do. A lot to find out. Interrogations. Hunting down those who are missing. Burying the dead. Examining the children. There's a lot to do. Irvin straightened up and marched into the throng of police officers, shouting orders as he went.

Gray eyes slowly opened, still heavy with sleep. Everything seemed to be white: white ceiling, white walls, and white sheets. The smell of rubbing alcohol and various cleaning products filled the air. Faintly, Levi could hear the beep of monitors and people chattering in the distance. Fingers twitched against his hand and drew his attention to the person the fingers belonged to.

Eren sat in a chair that he had pulled up against the hospital bed. The top of his head was pressed against Levi's knee while one hand rested on top of Levi's. His face was slack, his breaths were even, and he looked too damn peaceful. Levi untangled their hands and, with a feather-light touch, brushed his fingers along Eren's cheek. Eren shifted a little and a single emerald eye opened.

A dopey smile flickered to life on Eren's face, one that went straight to Levi's heart. "Mornin'," Eren mumbled.

Levi ran his thumb beneath the open emerald eye and shook his head. "You're a moron…" he said with a shake of his head. "You could have just slept up here."

Eren grinned sheepishly and shrugged, "I didn't want to wake you up. You were sleeping well. And the doctors said not to."

"… Why?"

"You were in surgery for a few hours while they tried to piece your ankle back together. They had to replace some of the bones with metal. Do you feel it?"

Levi shook his head and glanced at his other hand. An IV port sat in the middle of the back of his hand. Beside his bed, an IV stand stood with a half-full bag of medicine dangling on it. "I'm pretty sure the whole point of morphine is to not feel it, dumbass," Levi said good-naturedly. "Now get your ass up here before I drag you up." Maybe it was the morphine doing it, but Levi felt more at ease than he had in a while. Everything was a little brighter.

The black-haired man shifted over a little and Eren clambered up beside him. Thankfully, the taller man had the sense to leave his shoes on the floor. Eren slung an arm across Levi's torso and pulled him close. Heat radiated off Eren, which combated the chill of the hospital room. "So how long have I been out?"

"… Well, we left the Titan's base at about three. I don't know how long I wandered around those halls looking for an exit. You were unconscious from the time we left Dad's room until now, so about two days. You woke up a few times before they took you back for surgery, but not long. You weren't lucid either. You had a fever."

Levi tilted his head back so he could peer up at Eren. "And how are you?"

Fingers twitched against Levi's side. "I'm fine. All of the cuts healed up before we left."

"How do you feel?"

Eren hesitated and his vibrant green eyes slid away from Levi's. "… Strange. I keep dreaming about Annie torturing me… And about killing Dad. Knowing what I did… It makes me wonder if I did the right thing. Then I think about what he did and I feel like I did the right thing. But I keep thinking about what ifs. What if we could have talked to him when he was more or less sane? What if we hadn't shot to kill? What if I had realized sooner? What if-" Levi pressed a finger against Eren's lips.

"Shut up. You couldn't have gotten through to him even if he was in his right mind, which he clearly wasn't. I've seen more than my share of crazy people. There's no way he would have, or could have, listened. You had to shoot to kill. If not, he would have probably killed one, if not both of us. I'll tell you this one last time, so you'd better listen this time: it's not your fault.

"Stop blaming yourself. You were a fucking kid for Christ's sake! If you keep blaming yourself, it's going to consume you. You'll lose everything to a responsibility you shouldn't have to bear. So stop. Please. It's not worth wasting your time, your life, over." Levi shifted a little more and watched Eren with heavily lidded eyes, exhausted and ready to sleep a little more.

Eren stared at Levi for a moment before he buried his head into Levi's hair. For a moment, silence hung between them. A soft sniff broke it. "You know… you know just what to say."

"That's because I don't suffer from verbal diarrhea like a certain someone I know and love." Eren pulled back a little and looked Levi in the eyes. A faint dusting of pink covered his face. A single thought ran through Levi's tired mind: Cute. He caught Eren's face between his hands and pulled Eren close until he could feel Eren's breath on his face.

Eren leaned down a little further and kissed Levi with chapped lips. One of his hands came up and threaded through inky strands of hair before his fingers brushed over Levi's undercut. The tickling sensation sent chills down Levi's spine. When Eren pulled away from the chaste kiss, Levi pressed his head against Eren's chest. He could hear Eren's heartbeat, strong and steady, beneath his head. The steady thump worked with the exhaustion to shut his silver eyes. "Hey Eren… don't go anywhere."

He was almost asleep when Eren pressed his lips to the top of Levi's head. "… I won't."

The day after Levi woke up, Irvin marched into his hospital room with a bag over his shoulder and Annie and Armin in tow. "Damn…" Levi muttered, "I thought I'd at least get another day before you came in here."

"No such luck," Irvin shot back and pulled up a chair on the other side of Levi's bed. Eren gave his chair to Annie and assumed a position to the left of Levi, close enough that he wouldn't lose his grip on Levi's hand. The chestnut-haired man didn't fail to notice the way Annie flinched whenever Armin moved. He knew how torn up she was, not only about betraying him, but also for what she had done to his friend.

At least he knows that his gear is alright. The 'Maneuvering Gear' that Annie had apparently broken beyond repair had actually been a relatively close replica that she had created. While Armin had slept, she had swapped the two and broken the duplicate. The real prototype was back in Armin's apartment, safe and sound, without a single scratch on it. Eren knew Armin had forgiven Annie – the blonde had said so himself – but Annie had yet to forgive herself. Maybe this will help her. Although it'll be hard, selling out the rest of the Titans.

"So what do you need, Eyebrows?" Eren stifled a laugh at Levi's comment with a cough. Armin managed to crack a smile. Annie and Irvin were the only two who didn't – Irvin even frowned a little.

"We've come to discuss the matter of those who escaped during the assault, along with Annie's amnesty."

"So why does… Arlert was it? Why does Arlert need to be here?"

"I'm here to see if I can help," Armin said.

Levi eyed Armin for a moment and shrugged. "Whatever. What're we going to go over first?"

"Well, the first thing I need to know is if Annie is on our side." Irvin gave a pointed look at the short blonde woman. "I know almost nothing about her. Knowledge equals trust, which it vital when it comes to the information she has. I need to know if I can trust her and why she was with the Titans." Please Levi, stick to the story we discussed with Armin. Eren wanted to utter the plea, but he couldn't. He could only hope that Levi would go along with it.

The pale detective scratched his temple, "You'll be on a need-to-know basis, Irvin."

The blonde scowled. "… I'd rather not be, but I trust your judgment and what you tell me."

"Good, because you aren't getting anything else. When they told her to hurt Eren, she decided to help us instead. She told us to get out so she could stay behind, inform the police, and risk her life to take down those who imprisoned her. She's probably one of the kids from the journal, so she was kidnapped at a young age. She never had a choice. Eren and I trusted her when she gave us directions. Annie could easily have sent us to our deaths. I trust her."

Eren had to bite back a sigh of relief. Nothing that smudging the truth a bit can't fix. Annie looked like she wanted to protest, but Armin's hand settled over her shoulder and her mouth clamped shut once more.

Irvin gazed around the room with a skeptical eye, but shook his head. "… I can't trust her completely, but that will have to do. Annie, you'll receive amnesty for this entire incident once I manage to file a report, but the courts would probably like for you to testify against any Titans we capture alive. And you'll have to wear that tracker bracelet at all times for six months. Not only that, but you'll have to comply with us and tell us everything you know."

Annie nodded solemnly, "I will."

"Good. Now we have the matter of those who escaped. We've managed to compile a list of those who are deceased." Everyone watched as Irvin rifled through his bag. After a moment, Irvin pulled out a piece of printer paper. The blonde man cleared his throat and started to list the names off.

"Baden Wagner, Reiner Braun, Nita Smith, Alec Kershaw, Kelly Jackson, Percy Brooks, Nicholas Hollow, Peter Jones, Alice Merry, Sarah Black, Josiah Blalock, Alexandra Bailey, Sierra Schmidt, Thomas Dickerson, Amy Parks, and Karol Klein."

"I know Reiner," Eren said the moment Irvin finished. "Not any of the others. One of those names sounds familiar…"

"Baden Wagner," Levi said. "He was one of the three original children, along with-"

"Along with Ada Schmidt and Ferdinand Koch. You know those two as M and L. J was Wagner's alias," Annie interrupted. Everyone turned to look at her. Under their scrutinizing gazes, she visibly wilted and fidgeted uncomfortably. "… Meridew started the tradition of giving everyone aliases. Even the ones they didn't… the ones who are still normal. Those of us that were changed knew their identities. It was one of our privileges for surviving. For being pawns. I've given you their real names."

Irvin nodded and turned back to his back so he could rummage around. Eren stared at Annie and bit his lip as he thought. "Annie…" he said after a moment. "That's not really your name, is it?" Four pairs of eyes flickered up and danced between Eren and Annie as they waited for a response.

Annie glared down at her hands. "No. I was born as Clara Bell. Reiner was Fares Ekman. Bertholdt is Johann Bloch. Ymir is Lin Yao. Christa is Historia Reiss. We've been lying for a long time. Since birth really. Historia was born into this. The rest of us were kidnapped from our families and experimented on."

She looked up at each of them in turn, her blue eyes wide. "You have to remember that none of us had a choice in the beginning. The choices we made after… We were conditioned for those. Reiner and Bertholdt took to them better than Christa and Ymir did. I didn't care for it, but I didn't know what else to do. I wasn't strong enough to leave like Ymir and Christa. I stayed. It's not like I had anywhere to go at the time."

A long silence followed her words. If Dad had taken me with him, I would have grown up with Annie. I could have been like Reiner. I could have killed people. Chills ran down Eren's spine and his hand clenched around Levi's. I could have been a true monster. Just like them. Irvin's voice jerked him back from his mind. "-know of anymore that we begin searching for? It's imperative that we start as soon as possible."

Annie nodded and started to rattle off names. Eren didn't even bother to pay attention. He focused on Levi's hand and glanced up at Levi's face. The raven-haired detective had his eyes focused on each person as they spoke and his face was set in its usual cold, serious expression, but his thumb ran along the back of Eren's hand again, slow and soft. Eren smiled and squeezed Levi's hand once more.

Annie bolted from the room as soon as Irvin let her leave. The roar of blood filled her ears. Panicked gasps tore at her chest, which felt terrifyingly constricted. The blonde woman stumbled blindly through the halls, barely managing to avoid people as she went. "Annie!" Annie grimaced and hunched over a little more. Her paced quickened. "Annie! Annie, slow down!" Annie slammed into the stairwell door and stumbled inside.

Half-blind with desperate tears, she staggered down the stairs. On the landing of the second floor, a thin hand spotted with new calluses caught her wrist. Armin tugged Annie against his chest and held her close. The smaller blonde woman didn't resist. She pressed her face into Armin's shoulder and started to sob. Everything from the last few days, weeks even, poured out of her in the form of tears.

Desperate hands clutched Armin's shirt and fisted the material. How long has it been since I cried? Another hard sob wracked Annie's body and she shuddered. Armin ran his fingers down her back, slow and soothing. "Shhh," he whispered into her ear, "It's alright. Cry as long as you have to. It's alright."

Annie wanted to laugh or snap a bitter retort, but she smothered another pitiful sob and pressed Armin closer. The fabric quickly became damp beneath her face. By the time Annie pulled away, a long time later, there was a large wet spot across Armin's front. Blue eyes, bloodshot and still wet found Armin's equally blue, but far less red eyes.

One of his hands left her back to cup her face. He ran his finger over her cheekbone and wiped away the tracks left behind. "Feel better now?" Annie nodded. She didn't trust her voice, not yet. A relieved smile broke out on Armin's face, like the sun peeking out on an overcast day. "Good. You really had me worried there."

"Why?" Annie whispered miserably. "Why would you worry about a monstrosity like me? Why would someone like you bother with me after all I've done?"

With weak hands, she tried to push away from him, but Armin wouldn't have any of it. His arms, stronger than they had been in college, tightened around her and locked her in place. "I worry because you mean a lot to me Annie. Even if you made some wrong choices and did some things you aren't proud of, haven't we all? Annie, you made the right choice when it counted, and that meant a lot.

"You chose to go against the people who had raised you. You chose to save Eren and Levi despite the risks. You're helping us now, trying to repay for what you've done. You didn't break the gear. Look at the wonderful things you've done to make up for those that you aren't proud of. Believe you can change. I believe in you. Wanna know why? Because I love you Annie. I love you, and what you did doesn't change that because you showed that deep down, you're a morally right person. You made a choice for yourself, not because they told you to.

"Don't call yourself a monster. You aren't. You're Annie. You're a person. You have people who worry about you. You have people who care for you. Don't try to push me away Annie. It's not going to work. Too many of us care. Stop hating yourself. Look to the future, not the past. If not for yourself, then can you do it for me?"

A single tear trickled down Annie's face and she slowly nodded. "… I'll try."

Titan Case: Collective Information

Titans – a cult-like group of people originally founded by a Nazi scientist, Meridew. The core of the group is made up of people with an AB- blood type who have been successfully altered by a serum developed by Gilbert M. Meridew. Origins of the serum's contents are unknown aside from a Meridew's account from a journal that was burned before retrieval (presumably by members of the Titan organization during the assault).

According to some who had read the journal, he found a cave in uninhabited parts of Russia while on an expedition. There he found the frozen remains of people easily two to five times the size of an average human. Some speculate that they are where the Nephilim myth came from.

Some of the altered include: Baden Wager (alias: J. Deceased), Ada Schmidt (alias: M. Deceased), Ferdinand Koch (alias: L. Whereabouts unknown), Clara Bell (alias: Annie Leonhart. Defection), Lin Yao (alias: Ymir, no last name. Defection), Historia Reiss (alias: Christa Lenz. Defection), Fares Ekman (alias: Reiner Braun. Deceased), Johann Bloch (alias: Bertholdt Hoover. Whereabouts unknown), and Eren Jaeger (alias: none. Alive and unaffiliated with the Titans).

Grisha Jaeger (alias: G. Deceased) took controls of the Titans at an unknown times from M (Ada Schmidt) after murdering her. Grisha, also the father of Eren Jaeger, is the origin of one or more new strains of the serum. Signs of this are in Eren and the children recently abducted. The original serum allowed the subjects to live for an indefinite period of time if the subject survives (subjects with this are Schmidt, Wagner, Koch, Bell, Ekman, Bloch, Yao, and Reiss). The chances of surviving the injection of the original strain are lower than the survival rate of the newer strains developed by Grisha.

Signs of these strains include: no visible aging, eyes change to a luminous yellow that signifies the alien DNA on the cells becoming "excited", extraordinary feats of strength, agility, and speed, heightened senses, regenerative abilities, and more. The full capabilities of those infected with the original serum are unknown at the moment.

Annie is in the process of analyzing documents to see what the others of her "generation" were capable of. Eren's "generation" (Gen2) consists of himself and the seven children from the most recent case. All were apparently infected with the new strand (developed by Grisha instead of L [real name unknown]).

The children are currently under close observation and will be so for many years. The explanation to families is that their children have come in contact with substances used in biological warfare and that their children are in the hands of the government. Eren's involvement with the case concerning his infection has been covered up. However, I am constantly with him and observing for any changes in behavior/new developments.

According to records, Grisha Jaeger also had AB- blood. As he exhibited no signs of insanity prior to the death of his wife and family records show no possibility of inheriting mental disorders (i.e. schizophrenia, DID, and bipolar disorder) were not plausible. Therefore, we have come to the conclusion that Grisha possibly dabbled with his own serum in an effort to change himself. This was unsuccessful, as it caused severe paranoia and prevented him from functioning at a level high enough to be deemed sane.

Zoe Hanji theorized that the serum takes better to children. She stated, "This is due to the fact that children have more neural elasticity in their brain. Not only that, but their bodies are constantly undergoing changes and growth, the alien DNA is able to take a firmer hold on their own. The sooner it is introduced, the better."

We still do not know why only AB- types can receive this DNA. I doubt we will ever find out. Most of Meridew's records were destroyed during the assault on their underground system. All we know is that the serum (both old and new) causes memory loss for up to a week after the injection alongside the affects described above.

The experiments that were carried out on the children consisted of inflicting wounds until they could no longer heal and timing the time it took to stop regeneration. Apparently, this was done to see how well the serum took to their cells. This was done in the week-long period where amnesia occurred. Once the "amnesia period" as Annie called it passed, they ceased to experiment and began to train the children if they were old enough. Luckily, none of them had been taught anything too drastic at the time of rescue.

When it comes down to it, we still don't know anything. There are many blank spots on the map; ones that I suspect will never be filled. However, we have managed to collect a fair amount of information. More information than I expected we would be able to obtain. More facts will be added on at a later time as we are able to interrogate some of the more docile and willing Titans, but I doubt we will found out much. Until then, we will have to settle with this and what Annie knows, along with what she can find in Grisha's journal.

Levi Rivaille

Almost four years had passed since the Titans case had started. It took three years to catch the remnants of the Titans, who had scattered across the globe. When Irvin, Levi, Eren, and Annie had discussed the capture of those who had been changed with the serum, Annie had agreed it would be a problem.

According to her, they could theoretically live forever, although it depended on which strain they had received. She, Reiner, and Bertholdt had all ceased to age around the age of twenty-two. Eren, while the changes were almost unnoticeable, continued to age. M – Ada Schmidt – had been the only one to die out of them all. Annie explained that Grisha had come up at point-blank range and shot her in the center of her forehead. That led Irvin to the hypothesis that if enough brain or spinal damage was inflicted, those who had been altered could be killed.

Bertholdt was the first one they found. For nearly a year, he had been holed up in the more uninhabited parts of Germany. Sighting him had been luck at the time. He had been shot on sight, deemed too dangerous of a target to attempt a live capture with. Ten shots – seven in non-vital areas and three in the skull – were needed.

Ferdinand Koch – L – had been the last one left. It took them three years, four months, and twenty-six days to pin him into one location: Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland. A small population, but not too small, where L – Koch – would stand out. An elite force was sent there, Annie included, and they forced Koch out of hiding. Originally, they had gone in with the plan to make Koch surrender and possibly come in for questioning. It ended with three bullets in the back of his skull when the first two didn't work and the six in his chest barely slowed him down.

In those three years, they had also managed to take the others, the pure humans, into custody. One by one, operatives had taken them in until all of them had been found, dead or alive. All had been tried in the Supreme Court of Eden and found guilty. Their sentence was life. The seven children that had survived the experiments had been released from government custody after the second year, when they were labeled as "low-level threats". Observation, tracking bracelets, and occasional appointments with government officials were the only things required for the children to do.

Alongside that, there were burials to arrange and attend. Eren almost didn't attend Gunther, Oluo, and Erd's funerals, but Petra and Levi had convinced him otherwise. So Eren had gone and pushed Petra around in the wheelchair she was confined to, perhaps for life. He had not gone without tears. When Erd's wife had come up and thanked him and Levi for making sure Erd didn't die needlessly, Eren had started crying. He hadn't stopped until he had returned to Levi's apartment three hours later.

In those three years, Armin proposed to Annie and she ceased to see herself as an aberration. In the third year, Petra took her first steps once again – the steps no one thought she'd be able to take. So now, almost four years later, Petra hobbled around on a walker, slow and steady. Zoe and Moblit remained as autopsy technicians. When Eren had asked why, Zoe had simply said, "It's something I love, even if I'll inevitably see a friend on the table."

For Eren and Levi, the first three years were hectic. For nearly a year after their escape, constant nightmares plagued Eren's sleep. By the third year, those had almost completely disappeared. Levi's ankle healed up completely. Only the winter gave him trouble, as his ankle would grow sore and stiff with the bitter cold. Not only that, but both decided to continue working as detectives for Irvin's police force. The cases weren't always easy and certainly weren't safe, but they were nothing compared to their first case, nothing at all.

By the approach of the fourth year, they had found peace and happiness from knowing that the Titans had ceased to exist and that they still had each other. It still made Eren grin like an idiot when he knew he loved Levi and that Levi fiercely loved him back.
