When Holly got to the living room she was surprised to find piles of papers about IVF and all the ways they could get pregnant. She felt so happy Gail was already so into that idea that she was doing some research about procedures and best places to do it. She felt hands around her stomach and smiled…

''I did… And I must say you did your homework pretty impressive…''

''But… I would love to do it in my Rachel's sister's lab… Is that Ok with you?''
''Holly, as long we get a baby out of it, I don't care where you do it…''

They were kissing and laughing when their phones started ringing.

Tracy and Sam called them to come to the scene. The body was found that could be connected to the case they worked few months ago. They got changed and headed to the crime scene. Holly took her forensic kit out of the car and Gail adjusted her gun. Building was full of people in different uniforms. There were people from forensic, police officers IMTs giving statements to the officers and as it usually is; there was big number of curious people wanting to know what happened. Holly went to find the body and Gail went to find her friends and ask them what they want from her. Sam found her first and sent her upstairs to Holly.
''You will go to the morgue with the body.''
''Why? Rookies are afraid of it?''
''They didn't look comfortable. We had few who threw up…''
''Poor babies…''
''And I guess you don't mind keeping your wife company?''
''No, I love being there with her. It gives us time to talk and have normal conversation.''
''Over a dead body?''
It was to morbid to Sam to even think about it…
''Yes, over a dead body, pail of bones or something under the microscope. We can manage to have normal conversation about things. ''
''But at her work?''
''Why not? She is not just pathologist. There is much to her.''
''I know, it still sounds weird.''
''Why?''
''You talking about usual things over someone's body…''
Gail smiled at Sam…
''That keeps her normal… That keeps me normal… You and I even talk about life things when we work the case just to keep our heads straight. She often gets really affected by the people she gets to work on. Sometimes she manages to distance herself, but sometimes… Hm… Sometimes it's not that easy. Few weeks after we met she worked on the case of a five year old girl. That really got her….''
''Children get everyone Gail…''
''Maybe… But…''
She was not sure how to explain it all. She understood Holly and how her brain worked, but others… Others saw her as a doctor, not a person.
''When we get a child as a victim in some way, we check if they are alive, call the ambulance or pathologist and we are done. We can get out of the room, talk to the neighbors relatives… but Holly gets to stay with them and discover things about them we didn't want to know. The girl she worked on was constantly abused, she was full of small cuts and bruises and who knows what more and it was HOLLY who had to document it all, take pictures, measure it and describe every detail…. So, it's not the same for her as it is for us.''
Sam got into thinking. She was right. Holly saw different side of it all. When they got inside, Holly was on her knees checking the victim's pockets for something….
''What are you looking for?''
''His inhaler… It says he has asthma… and there is no inhaler…''
''Asthma? But I heard they said that the body was in pretty bad shape… This one looks…fresh?''
Holly had to smile at that comment.
''This one is… But the one in the back room is not….''
''Two of them?''
''Oh, yes… My guess is that this one was an accident… Someone who came too soon and saw something he shouldn't have.''
When she finished her external exam, she went to the other room to work on the other victim. Tracy was taking notes as Holly spoke and Holly's assistants were doing what she told them to do. All of them were working like one. Holly trained them to shadow her. Sam was impressed every time he saw her in the work mode. She was far from sweet and cheery Holly he saw at Penny or out of work.
''You know Gail, you married an amazing woman.''
''I know… I tell myself that every day…''
After she was done with the body, Holly let her team transport them to the morgue. She will have a lot of work today and all she wanted to do with her wife will not happen tonight. Gail went with her with same train of thoughts. She wanted to have hot and sexy afternoon with Holly and these two bodies were promising all but that. They will stay at work much longer than they wanted. As it was suspected, this body was work of one of the serial killers they were after. Their killer was quiet for two months and now he was back with two bodies. He made up for the lost time. After examining the body, Holly concluded that this murder was more personal. Body was mutilated more than others were.
''He knew him… This is personal…''
Gail looked at her surprised…
''Why do you say that?''
''He cut out his tongue.''
''Oh, so… He wanted him to keep quiet about something… Victim knew something about the killer…''
''That is more your like of work, but from mine line of work… I can say it is the same killer who brought some innovations into this murder. He was punishing victim for something.''
Next few days were very busy for all of them. They worked on the case and there were no new leads. Holly spent too much time in the lab and Gail practically lived at the station. Weekend was their time and it seemed it would never come. They spent entire Saturday in bed and they spoke to Rachel's sister for the appointment. She told them they could come on Thursday and they made sure to have a day off. Gail was a bit nervous about all that. She wanted the baby, but she was scared that she will be bad parent to her child. Holly was very nervous, but Gail made sure to relax her and hide how nervous and crazy about all this she was. Holly's results were good that morning and the insemination took place about an hour after they got to the clinic. Doctor even let Gail push the plunger of the serenge.
''Stewart, I might have knocked you up!''
She started laughing.
''When you say it like that, I feel like teen statistic.''
''I guess you were never statistic Stewart…''
''Maybe for some things.''
Rachel's sister smiled at them and took off her glows.
''Now, we need you to stay on the chair for some thirty minutes and then you are fee to go.''
''And the results?''
''Blood work in two weeks.''
''TWO WEEKS?''
''Yes, Gail. It takes time…''
''I am not good with waiting.''
''Then you will be pain waiting for about forty weeks to see your baby.''
''That is a lot.''
''It is, but it is the time it takes for baby to be born.''
''I am very excited…and scared.''
''I was too. Holly can tell you, I have three children and each time I couldn't wait.''
''I guess that is the part of the process…''
''It is… It will be amazing journey for two of you. You will see. You will get a person you love more than life itself. Every mother can tell you that being a mom is the best thing ever.''
Gail's face changed. She lowered her gaze.
''Not every mother.''
Holly took her hand.
''Babe, your mom is not the example we want to use. You will be amazing mom and our baby is going to love you so much.''
Next two weeks were crazy torture for Gail. She was so impatient to learn if they were pregnant. She counted days in her calendar and every night she talked to Holly's belly when she was asleep. She really wanted that baby to be there and make their life even better than it was.
On the other hand, time was flying for Holly. She had so much work that days were too short for her and she was preparing for court so she had no time to think about the baby and what it would mean to her and her wife.
Moment of truth came on one very cold and rainy morning. Gail was off from the night shift and she and Holly met in the waffle place near the doctor's office.
''This is it…''
''Yes, in an hour we will know…''
''What do you think the test will show?''
''I don't know.''
''I think we are pregnant Holly.''
Holly smiled.
''You think?''
''I know!''
''How?''
''I just do.''
''Ooookkk…. Let's finish this and go and see how right you are love.''
''Yes!''
Dr. Davis was waiting for them. She sent Holly for the blood work and after that for some other tests. In time Holly was done, blood work came back.
''Ok. Let's see.''
''Holly and Gail, you ARE pregnant. Congratulations! ''
''I knew it!''
Gail kissed her wife and Holly stood in shock.
''We are having a baby. This is happening.''
''Yes, this is happening.''
They got the list of prenatal vitamins and stuff so the next checkup was in three weeks. When they left the office, Gail had stupid and happy smile.
''You are scaring me. I never saw you smile like that.''
''I never had a reason to smile like that.''
''I love you Gail.''
''I love you even more.''
They kissed and went home. It was their day and time they would take to celebrate with a lot of their favorite foods and sex. Gail was very happy they would probably have a lot of sex.
