Alec and Magnus made their way through New York City's streets, trying to reach the hospital Alec had been admitted last week. They were in no hurry, however Alec insisted in reaching the hospital quickly since they had a lot of work to do before they had to reach the airport. It was a Saturday and they were traveling that evening to California for the premiere of the newest movie Jace worked on. The movie "Day Four" was going to premiere on the Chinese theater in Hollywood Boulevard. Jace had invited both of his siblings to the premiere, and each had the right for a plus one. Izzy was going to go with Simon and Alec with Magnus, of course. Everyone had agreed to go a few days before the premiere and stay two days after the premiere so they could spend some time sight-seeing and enjoying the beautiful Californian weather. Jace had some interviews booked, but other than that he had the whole week free. Clary had asked her step-father, Luke, for some days off the coffee-shop, which she had been granted. Simon's band were still trying to get a contract with a disc industry which they hadn't got yet, so Simon was able to go. And Magnus, being his own boss and the boss of his boyfriend and sister-in-law had no problem taking a few days off and giving Alec and Izzy some as well. It was all planned perfectly and the group was buzzing with excitement to get their well-deserved vacations.

"We can spend all day Sunday in the beach" Magnus was saying "Redondo Beach is rather calm and no one will know we're there…on Monday we can go sight-seeing. Visit some malls, maybe go to Palos Verdes – Oh! There is this really cool place called The Grove, Camille said we should totally go there…Not to mention Disney! We HAVE to go to Disney…"

"Magnus, you're rambling" Alec said rolling his eyes "We're going to be there 'till Friday…I don't think we'll have time to do all that"

"Nonsense" Magnus scolded "We're going to have plenty of time, and if we don't then we just stay for another week"

"We can't stay for another week" Alec chuckled "We have to come back and work on the magazine"

"You keep forgetting who is the owner of the magazine" Magnus said with a brilliant grin

"And you keep forgetting we have to work on your fashion show" Alec said with a roll of his eyes as they continued walking "We're getting back on Friday and that's it"

Magnus pouted and was going to say something else when they reached the hospital. Alec turned to smile at his boyfriend nervously and they walked inside. They reached the petit receptionist that sat behind a desk next to the waiting area of the hospital. Alec took a deep breath as he approached the desk. The designer, seeing his boyfriend nervousness, took his hand and laced their fingers together. Alec turned to smile at Magnus who gave him a gentle smile back and a reassuring squeeze on the hand.

"How may I help you?" the receptionist asked as they approached her.

"I have booked out a visit with Dr. Milton" Alec spoke as the woman looked through some notebook.

"Oh Right, Alexander Lightwood?" She asked

"That's me" Alec nodded

"You're right on time" the woman said with a small smile "Dr. Milton will receive you now…his office is at the end of the hall, last door on the left"

"Thank you"

Alec and Magnus walked hand-in-hand down the hall until they reached the door the receptionist had told them was Dr. Milton's office. Alec took a deep breath and knocked softly on the door. They waited for a couple of seconds until it opened revealing tall man in a white coat.

"Alexander! Good to see you again" The man smiled at the photographer as he let the couple walk inside the office.

"Good to see you too Doctor" Alec answered politely

"Been taking care of each other, I hope" Dr. Milton said smiling at him and Magnus "Very well, I should check on those stitches then"

Alec sat down on the bed situated on the corner of the room against the wall. He turned his back to the doctor and faced Magnus. Magnus squeezed his hands tightly, trying to reassure him. This was a check-up to see how Alec's injury was healing. He had had five stitches on the back of his head after hitting his head on the coffee-table after the fight with his father at his old house.

"It seems to be healing alright and I'll be able to take the stitches off today" the doctor said "It'll be alright and it'll barely hurt…are you ready?"

Alec looked into Magnus's eyes. He had always hated hospitals but having Magnus there with him made him feel slightly better. Alec nodded slowly and the doctor started his work taking out the stitches. Since the injury had healed well enough, the stitches weren't too difficult to take off. It only took a couple of minutes because the doctor was done. He covered the injury with some bandages.

"There you go" Dr. Milton said with a smile "make sure to keep it covered for at least two weeks until it finished to scar…don't leave it exposed to the sun. Thankfully, your hair is rather long so it covers it well enough"

"Thank you doctor" Alec said standing up and turning to smile at the doctor.

The couple walked out of the doctor's office and made their way towards the receptionist where they had to pay for the visit. Afterwards they made their way back to Magnus's apartment where Magnus needed to pack the last of his belongings. Alec had done that the day before and his bags were already at Magnus's place.

"What are you going to do with your cat?" Alec asked as he stroked behind the animal's ears as he lay on top of Magnus's bed.

"Chairman is staying with a friend of mine, Tessa" Magnus explained "We have to drop him off on the way to the airport, by the way"

"Then we should leave early" Alec said "We have to catch a plane at 4pm, it's going to be 2 real soon"

"I'm almost done" Magnus said as he continued to take things out of his closet and put them into his many suitcases

"you should have done that yesterday" Alec said rolling his eyes "trust you to pack at the last moment"

"I packed yesterday!" Magnus argued "The first two suitcases were filled yesterday…I'm finishing the last one"

"You're taking three suitcases?!" Alec asked sitting up "Magnus, we're going to be there for a week!"

"I know darling, I booked the plane tickets" Magnus said with a roll of his eyes.

"You don't need three suitcases...You don't have to take so many useless things" Alec complained

"You offend me, darling" Magnus asked with a mock hurt tone "these are not 'useless things'! these are essentials!"

Magnus continued to pack all of his belongings in the exaggerated number of suitcases while they both talked about their plans of what they were going to do once they reached Los Angeles. They would go straight to the hotel after the airport. They would check in, settle down in their rooms, and then they were going to go for some dinner together. The next day, on Sunday, they were going to spend the whole day in the beach. They had already talked with the rest of their group and they all had agreed. They would have a picnic on the beach and just relax. On Monday each couple would go on their own. Magnus wanted to check the malls and go shopping. Alec had complained at first, but eventually they had reached a deal. They would go shopping all morning and after lunch they would go to a place of Alec's choice, which was Barnes and Noble. Magnus wasn't too thrilled of the idea of going to a bookstore, but Alec was going shopping with him so he would do that for his boyfriend. On Tuesday, the group would go for breakfast together and then gather together in the hotel where Jace and Clary were staying to get ready for the premiere. Alec, Jace, and Simon didn't see the need to get ready too early for the event, but the girls and Magnus insisted they needed all the time they could get to get ready. Clary had designed her own dress, and Izzy was going to use one Magnus made for her. Magnus, of course, had designed his own suit and had bought Alec's. Magnus had agreed to do both of the girl's make-up after he did his own.

"Alec, darling, would you do me a favor?" Magnus asked from the other side of the room.

"Depends…what do you want me to do?" Alec asked turning to look at his boyfriend who was struggling to close his suitcase.

"Come and sit on top of this" The designer answered pointing at the suitcase.

Alec rolled his eyes but did as told anyways. He sat Indian style on top of the suitcase that lay on the floor. It barely helped to close the suitcase, but Magnus still tried.

"I don't get why you have to take so many things" Alec sighed "My own suitcase is barely filled"

"You mean you still have space on your suitcase?" Magnus asked with a small grin on his face.

"Yes, but you are not getting your stuff in my suitcase" Alec answered sternly

"Oh please!" Magnus complained "Just my glitter, pretty please? With a cherry on top?"

"No Magnus!" Alec said frowning slightly "I don't want all of my stuff to get filled with glitter"

"They won't! I promise" Magnus begged "they will be closed tightly and inside a Ziploc bag. Your belongings will be glitter-free, I assure you"

Alec didn't look convinced, but after looking into Magnus's golden-emerald eyes as he did his best puppy-eyes, Alec had to give in. He could never turn down that look, no matter how hard he tried. Magnus cheered happily as he helped Alec stand up and took the glitter off the suitcase. Alec put the bag on his own suitcase and Magnus was finally able to close his suitcase.

Afterwards, they took Chairman to Magnus's friend's house and the couple had lunch together before they had to leave to the airport.

Alec took all of their luggage out of the taxi they had taken towards the airport as Magnus paid the driver. They turned towards the airport and were greeting by the flashing of paparazzi lights. Alec's eyes widened when he saw the big crowd gathered around the airport. Magnus put his arm on his shoulder and squeezed softly. The photographer smiled nervously at his boyfriend and they started to make their way inside. Some people recognized them, but most of them were there for Jace. That didn't stop the couple for getting a few shots by the paparazzi, though.

Simon and Izzy were already inside waiting for the rest to join them. Alec and Magnus approached them and greeted each other warmly. It wasn't long before Clary and Jace joined them and they went into luggage check-up. Everything went smoothly. A few security guards helped them reach the gates without being stopped by more people who recognized them and then they were waiting to board the plane.

"This is so exciting!" Clary said with a bright smile "I've never traveled to the other side of the country"

"You've never left New York, Fray" Simon chuckled.

"We used to do it all the time when we were younger" Izzy said with a sadly tone "Mom and Dad would take us when they traveled for business"

"We would usually stay with some aunt or family friend" Jace said with a small smile.

Magnus noticed Alec had a sour look on his face as he stared blankly at the window. The designer was about to point that out when they were called to take to board the plane. They all were on first class. Izzy, Jace, and Magnus refused to go anywhere else and their significant others had no other option than agree. Jace and Clary were seating together in front of Izzy and Simon. Magnus and Alec had their places on the other aisle of the plane.

The rest of the passengers filled the plane and in no time they took flight. Alec was sitting next to the window and he looked down as they got farther and farther away from the earth. He had a pensive look in his face and Magnus knew something was bothering him. Maybe the talk about his parents had upset him? Or the memories? Whatever the reason, Magnus wanted to know and make his boyfriend feel better.

"What changed?" Magnus asked after a long time of thinking how to approach the topic. Alec turned to look at his confused "With traveling with your parents…why you stopped?"

"We grew up" Alec answered with a shrug "After I got in high-school our parents would leave me on charge of Jace and Izzy. Max too young so he kept traveling with them"

"You mean you've been taking care of your siblings ever since you were thirteen?" Magnus asked with wide eyes.

"Fourteen" Alec corrected him "But yeah"

"But, you were so young!" Magnus complained "How would you get to school? You couldn't drive yet!"

"We would take the bus" Alec shrugged "My parents paid for all the bills so I didn't have to worry about the light or water…"

"What about food?" Magnus asked frowning slightly

"They left us with money so I could go buy the week's food at the grocery store" Alec shrugged.

"How old were Jace and Izzy?" Magnus asked sadly

"Jace was thirteen, Izzy was twelve" Alec answered "We grew closer together during all those years"

"So, you would do all the work at the house?" the designer continued questioning, not being able to believe young Alec could do that

"Laundry, wake them up for school, make their lunch, make them go back to sleep after a nightmare" Alec nodded listing off things he'd done "Everything normal parents were supposed to do"

"They obliged you to grow up earlier than a normal kid" Magnus noted sadly.

"That was normal for me, Mags" Alec said with a small smile "I grew up like that, I never knew otherwise"

"But, you never had a baseball game? Hang out with your friends of the neighborhood? Go out on dates?" Magnus asked in disbelief and Alec shook his head "You practically raised your own siblings"

"They didn't have a normal childhood either" Alec replied sadly "They deserved loving parents who would be there for them…Who would go to Jace's football games and school plays. Who would take Izzy to the birthday parties to all of her friends and would be there for her recitals at school…They never had that and I had to fill that space, which unfortunately I never could"

"Don't say that" Magnus said caressing Alec's cheek "They turned out just fine and now they are successful grown people… Jace is a movie star who is earning millions for his talent, and Izzy is an amazing model who will be the next face of Covergirl…you did an amazing work taking care of them"

"You think?" Alec asked looking shyly at Magnus's mesmerizing eyes

"I know so" Magnus smiled and gave a small peck to Alec's awaiting lips.
