Chapter Twenty Six

Blood.

Blood.

Blood.

Stefan licked his lips and he wasn't dreaming it was the warm, taste of sweet blood. He grabbed the blood bag that Katherine had been dangling over him playfully. "Easy, easy you don't want to throw it up."

Stefan refused to listen to her as he drank every last drop of the sweet blood. Finally feeling somewhat like his old self he dropped the blood bag on the floor of the Mikaelson' living room. "That's better." He glanced at Katherine who was leaning on the chair with her trademark Katherine smirk on her face. "What happened?"

"What happened is that I saved your life," Katherine said cheerfully. "Or your future goddaughters did. They broke the seal so that I and Elijah could get you out."

"My future what exactly?" he said, still sounding confused as he glance at Katherine's pregnant belly. "The babies? There was a warlock, who stabbed me with-"

"Some kind of knife to desiccate you," Katherine finished for him. "Either he was in a good mood or the knife started running out of batteries, because unlike other vampires you my friend, are not dead."

"Where's Rebekah?" Stefan demanded as he stood up. "I need to-"

"She's not here, Stefan." Katherine said. "She's probably ripping off that coward Thierry's head off." She rested her chin in the palms of her hand. "I know I would, besides your legs are still shaking something tells me you wouldn't be much help right now."

Rebekah pushed Thierry against the wall. "I should rip out your coward heart! You left Stefan and me to die! We had to rely on Katherine and if anything should have happened to her or the children she carries we would all de dead."

"Don't you think I know that?" Thierry snapped. "You think I wanted to give the pregnant human directions to where to find you? I agreed to help you, Rebekah, but we both know that at the end Klaus will always win."

"First Elijah, then Stefan, and now you? What makes you think that for once I won't be able to win against my brother?"

Elijah snapped Thierry's neck and glared at Rebekah. "I asked you to stop this petty fight against our brother. You're walking a fine line, Rebekah and you have made it worse with the fact that you are trying to force Stefan-the only other person our brother trust against him, nor the way that Katerina could have possibly been in danger tonight. Is this what is has come too? You plotting against your own flesh and blood?"

"Don't try and shame me!" Rebekah hissed. "Nik grows more powerful by the day and all you and Stefan do is encourage him! Yes, what I did today was stupid, but you and Nik need to stop treating Katherine like she's some kind of delicate flower because as much as both of you hate to admit it, she can take care of herself!"

"I do this for Klaus, as well as Stefan to keep him happy, Rebekah. Or do you want to see more innocent blood spilled? And I appreciate Katerina's help, but it shouldn't have been needed especially since she can be stubborn and reckless."

"What about my happiness for once?" Rebekah chocked out. "And what about your feelings for Katherine? And don't act innocent with me, I see the way that you look at her, the way that you protect her. She might have slept with Nik, but it is obvious that she's been in love with you all this time. Nik will hate you both for it no matter how many contracts you sign or any other idiocy he comes up with. You're a hypocrite Elijah, you will choose Katherine over your family and then you will try to condemn me for doing the same."

"Hey, are you ok?" Stefan frowned when he saw Rebekah entering the compound. Her eyes were red from crying. "You've been crying."

"Stefan, I am so sorry." Rebekah blubbered. "I never wanted for you to get hurt, Papa Tunde's knife could have killed you-and Elijah's a jerk . . . and who else can possibly be alive? What if . . . what if Klaus finds out he can't find out, he would kill me if he finds out-"

Stefan tried to calm her down. "Rebekah, slow down you're not making any sense. Why would Klaus want to kill you?"

Rebekah gulped as she stared at Stefan with tears in her eyes. "Marcel and I were the ones who brought Mikael to New Orleans in 1919."

"So my sister and Stefan get attacked by a powerful warlock that easily managed to grab a hold of an Original," Klaus narrowed his eyes towards Katherine and Elijah who were in the library with his as well. "And you thought it was a good idea to just stroll over there and play the hero."

Katherine narrowed her eyes. "I did what I had to do Klaus. Or would you have preferred it for Rebekah and Stefan to still be half dead?"

"Don't try to blame this on me, Katerina," Klaus fumed. "What you had to do was stay in the compound where it is safe. I know this may be new news for you sweetheart, but humans can die."

Katherine opened her mouth to respond but Elijah interrupted. "Katerina, Klaus is right."

Klaus smirked.

"And we've been talking." Elijah said slowly. "And we feel that with everything that has been happening lately that it is not safe for you here."

"What? What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means, love that you've become a sort of leverage with all the people that have tried to kill you." Klaus said.

"Would you please not call her a leverage?"

"Fine, she's defenseless and weak, is that better brother?"

"Could you two please stop talking like I'm not here?" Katherine scowled. "So there are a few problems and you want to send me away?"

Klaus rolled his eyes. "Let's not be dramatic, Katerina. It's only for a few weeks and you will be happy to know that the place we have chosen for you is Mystic Falls."

"Yes, because Mystic Falls has recently been voted as one of the safest towns in America and my biggest dream has always been to watch Damon and Elena make out," Katherine snapped. "I am not going and you can't make me."

Klaus looked like he wanted to strangle her and it didn't help that they were shooting each other daggers. Elijah tried to step in. "Katerina, please understand it's only for a few weeks. A month at the most. You're six months pregnant, it's too dangerous for you here."

"Oh, stop pleading with her, Elijah it's pathetic." Klaus faced Katherine. "I really don't care what you want sweetheart, you are leaving tomorrow even if I have to tie you up and get you in the car myself."

Katherine looked at Elijah for support, but he conveniently lowered his head.

"Fine." She spat. "Do whatever the hell you want."
