Honeyflash felt useless. For so long she had strived towards making her clan a better place. But now…
It had started with a storm in the middle of the night. Torrential rain had made its mark against the trees in the SwiftClan, spewing down the leaves and bombing to the surface below. The dens below were small and covered by bushes, with the ground being dug out. As the cats below slept, the droplets slithered through the chinks of this leafy armour.
One cat awoke, after feeling the rain drip drop onto her golden fur. Honeyflash. Her eyes burst open abruptly, amber flowers lighting a dark den. They fluttered lazily for a few moments before focusing on the constant river flowing onto her nose. This rain was not normal. A sudden burst of thunder and lightning made her jump and shook the others in the den from their sleep. A scream later and Honeyflash was out of the den. Several trees were burning ferociously, despite the furious rain. It was most likely due to the flash of lightning from before. Honeyflash only felt one thing as she stared into the ruthless flames; un-tempered fear. Her hearing dulled, for a reason Honeyflash didn't understand until she noticed the heat against her fur and the flames beside her. She was sent skidding by a shockwave and soon realised she had almost been struck by lightning. Cats around her were yelling mutely and sprinting in all kinds of directions. Her head lulled side to side dizzily. By this point the rain had faded out, yet the fires burned on. Pillowing smoke erupted through the trees and Honeyflash felt herself being dragged along by a torrent of cats as the plunged into the darkness of light.
Eventually her vision awoke from a drunken slur and managed to define the bodies of two cats. Flamefur and Treeleaf were both trying to speak to her yet her hearing had not returned. She put a paw to her ear and shook her head, trying to get across the message that she couldn't hear. They seemed to understand and beckoned to follow them. Her delusions of countless cats from before must have been these two. They followed the route towards the lake, hoping to find safety but found they were soon blocked and surrounded by a ring of fire. Flamefur gave her a sad look and Honeyflash realised what she wanted Honeyflash to do. Honeyflash backed up but Treeleaf put a tail on her shoulders and gave a look as if to say 'I'll be right behind you.'
Flamefur took a deep breath and shortly afterwards the stubborn ginger she-cat plunged towards the flames. They cackled in delight and grabbed for her feet. Luckily, Flamefur was a skilled jumper and managed to clear the flames that were reaching for the stars. Honeyflash looked down. How could she do this? It's not possible! Treeleaf, however, disagreed he nudged her forwards and nodded. Honeyflash took a single glance at her feet before her eyes narrowed and she dashed forwards. Her heart skipped as her body did. Leaping towards an ephemeral carpet of orange. It seemed to pave way for her body as she dove through. Maybe she was just moving fast enough for it to feel that way. Her breath was released the second her feet once again touched the earth and she stopped a whiskerlength from Flamefur with her nose almost planting itself into the ground. Treeleaf had been…less graceful. He burst through the flames, not having bothered to jump and leapt into the nearest pile of mud, in order to douse the flames that clung to his dark brown fur. Honeyflash turned to smile at him as he made his way up the short hill they waited on. This smile faded once she saw the desolation that had once been their territory. There was not a sngle cat in sight.
Honeyflash felt useless. For so long she had strived towards making her clan a better place. But now…no. It was not the time to think like that. Now is the time to find her clanmates. To rebuild. She still has her hope. She still has Flamefur and Treeleaf.
