Chapter Thirty Four

"What is taking them so long?" Klaus said impatiently as he began walking up and down the hall glaring at everyone who would even look at him funny. "She's been in there for over an hour."

"Be patient, Niklaus." Elijah said tightly, he hadn't gotten out of his own chair, but he was seriously considering getting up and giving the nurses and doctors a piece of his mind. But he knew that he had to be patient even if he wasn't used to waiting to find out about another person's health. He wondered why Klaus' blood wasn't working or why the babies weren't healing her like they usually did, but he wouldn't dare ask his brother this especially when he was already nervous enough. "I'm sure it won't be long now."

"But why didn't my blood work? And who could have taken her?" he ran a hand through his short hair. "I didn't even noticed that she was gone, I became more focused on Rebekah. You have been the one taking care of Katerina all this time, you should be the twins' father, not me. I'm not father material."

Elijah softened for a bit, but said firmly. "Klaus, don't say that. One does not magically become a father. It takes time. I have seen improvement in your attitude, and in your own way you're trying to help, Katerina. You have been doing a good job so far and I'm sure your daughters and Katerina know that. We were at a disadvantage today, something that won't happen again. Mark my words."

Klaus crossed his arms over his chest. "Who could have been the one that attacked, Katerina? You said yourself that Celeste said that, it was someone related to Katherine, but I killed her entire family. Katerina doesn't have any family left besides Elena, and we both know that she wouldn't have the guts to do it."

They both broke away from their confusion when they saw Rebekah and Stefan enter through the ER doors. "How is she?" Rebekah pushed back a pierce of blond hair from her face. "Is she and the babies, ok?"

"We haven't received any news, sister." He snapped. "And even if we did, I wouldn't tell you."

Rebekah's jaw tightened.

"Niklaus." Elijah said in a warning tone.

"Oh, Elijah shut up."

Stefan cleared his throat. "Elijah, would you like to get some coffee? I have some news about Davina."

Elijah hesitated before he followed the youngest Salvatore to get coffee from the machines stationed in the corner of the room.

Rebekah and Klaus stood staring at each other, refusing to say anything until Klaus spoke up. "You served your purpose, the riddle is solved and we got Katerina back." He pointed a finger towards the door. "So now leave with your life before I change my mind."

"Why do you have to be like this? Why do you have to always be so controlling and dictated my life?" Rebekah's voice broke. "You weren't like this, Nik-"

"Oh, spare me the sob stories, sister."

Rebekah's blue eyes darkened with fury. "I'm sorry that I brought Mikael back in 1919. I'm sorry that it caused us our home and our family. But I didn't do it because I wanted him to kill you, I saw it as the only chance of happiness, the happiness that I wouldn't receive otherwise. I'm not leaving, I'm staying not for you, but for my nieces I want to make sure that they are ok."

"Relatives of Miss Katherine Pierce?" A doctor with light blond hair and glasses came into the room holding a clipboard.

"That's us, we're her . . . family." Klaus said as Elijah and Stefan joined them, both holding cups of coffee.

The doctor looked grim. "I'm afraid I have some bad news. Mr. Mikaelson, like you informed the nurse Miss Pierce was carrying twins, fraternal twins, which means they were in different placentas-"

"Was?" Stefan interrupted. "What do you mean was?"

Elijah closed his eyes, already dreading and knowing what the rest of the news was going to be.

"Unfortunately, Miss Pierce had lost a lot of blood by the time that she arrived and there was a lot of internal damage. We did a sonogram and unfortunately we only heard one heartbeat, we did more tests and fortunately one of the babies is perfectly healthy, the other child however was already dead when Miss Pierce was brought in, suffered a severe head injury and her spine was dislocated, I'm so sorry there was nothing we could do-"

Klaus stormed out of the room before the doctor could finish his sentence. Stefan looked at him apologetic, "I'm sorry, this is hard for him, I'll go talk to him."

The doctor looked uncomfortable.

Rebekah gulped. "Please doctor, continue."

"We managed to stop the bleeding and like I said, Miss Pierce and her baby are now in pectfect condition. Miss Pierce will be staying in the hospital for a few days to make sure everything is fine. She's very weak now and we put her on sleep and pain medication, but she should be released in a few days."

Elijah rubbed his chin and closed his eyes. Poor Katherine. Poor Klaus. "And what about the deceased baby . . . the fetus?"

"Miss Pierce is still carrying the placenta with the deceased baby." The doctor explained apologetic. "We couldn't remove it because we didn't want to harm the other baby and she had already lost too much blood. We have two options either when Miss Pierce becomes stronger, we can remove the fetus, or since she is roughly seven months pregnant we can wait until she gives birth to both children and then-"he trailed off uncertainly. "Well, you understand. Would you like me to tell her the news? Or would you?"

Rebekah squeezed Elijah's hand.

"No, I'll tell her."

The doctor nodded. "Once again, I'm very sorry. It was a tragic accident."

"Genevieve is dead," Milena informed Celeste as both women met in the cemetery. Milena stared at the dried blood on the ground. "Good riddance, her petty vengeance, would have slow us down."

"But in other words it means that the Harvest girls will be more eager to complete the Harvest." Celeste pointed out.

She scoffed. "You're not scared of a couple of teenagers are you?"

"Of course not." Celeste cocked her head to the side. "Did you have fun today?"

She nodded. "Though, it would have been more entertaining if she put more of a fight. Though, I guess I couldn't expect too much, she is in her third trimester." Milena glanced at the pale moon. It was so beautiful, she remembered when she and Katerina had looked at the stars together when they were children. "I won't stop until she's dead."

"I didn't expect you too." Celeste replied. "And I won't stop until each Originals pays for everything bad they have done. I can't kill them, but I can make them suffer."

"Do you still have the Traveler's knife that I gave you? The one that proves my loyalty?"

Celeste discreetly showed her the end of the knife. "Don't worry, I'll keep it safe I promise."
