The Shadow of Our Lady of Paris
There was nothing quite like wandering the open-air market on the Île de la Cité, inhaling the scents of ripe produce. Elaine added the dark plums to the woven basket that hung off of her arm. She wrapped her hand around Severus's elbow, allowing him to lead her through the press of people while she spent her time gazing unabashedly at the colorful displays. They were in the shadow of Notre Dame de Paris now, under the two towers of the western façade.
"Should we look for the hunchback?" she asked teasingly.
Severus smiled back slightly and rolled his eyes.

The Île de la Cité is one of two natural islands remaining in the Seine. It is at the heart of Paris and thought to be the cradle of the City's birth.
Notre Dame de Paris is the French Gothic cathedral (the seat of the archbishop of Paris) that the Île de la Cité is perhaps most famous for housing.
Elaine's question is in reference to the French Gothic novel by Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, published in 1831. It was written to showcase the value of Gothic architecture, which was in danger at this time. There are an overwhelming number of descriptive sections of the book that exceed any requirements of the narrative.
