I own nothing
Magnus had come across some pretty scaring experiences. What with everything that had happened in his life, nothing scared him too much lately. After seeing his own mother hanging by the garage door, being almost drowned in a pond by his childhood house, and after every foster home he had lived, it was really hard making Magnus scared of something. Showing fear was a weakness, he had learnt that the hard way. As a kid, if you showed you were scared, everyone took advantage of you. In every foster house he lived Magnus had to pretend to be strong and not be faced by the mean boys around him or else he would end up locked in a closet or bathroom until someone realized he was missing, which usually took one day too long. So as he grew he learned to school his body language and show the complete opposite to what he actually felt. He walked down the streets with confidence and faced everyone with no bother. Instead of showing he was scared, he scared people.
But in the last couple of months that had changed. And all thanks to the Lightwood family. The first time he had been scared half to death was when Alec ended in the hospital after fighting with his father. Alec had hit his head pretty hard and had been asleep for a few days. And when he finally woke up, he pretended not to recognize Magnus…which was an incredibly scary experience which he does not wishes to live again.
The second really scary experience was when he found Alec's body lying on the floor over a pool of his own blood. Seeing Alec so pale and so…lifeless had scared the shit out of Magnus.
And the other experience which had scared Magnus the most….well he promised to never come across a pregnant woman who was about to give birth before it was scheduled.
It all had started as a nice dinner with Simon and Izzy. Already a week had gone by since Robert Lightwood had been admitted into prison and the small group of friends had been a little distracted. So they had decided to spend one evening together and go back to that nice friendship they used to have before life got complicated.
Dinner was as any other could have been. Jace didn't miss a chance to talk about how awesome he is, which ended with an argument with Simon or Izzy. Clary, of course, managed to calm them all down a little bit. At least enough to have a polite conversation. Clary also managed to engage Alec into a conversation about her Art Academy. She already had a few places she could rent and only needed to choose one and go over the paper work. When she wasn't arguing with Jace, Isabelle was chatting happily with Magnus about the latest fashion trends. Magnus had announced that evening during dinner about his decision about opening his own clothing store. Everyone had been really supportive about it which made Magnus really happy. His whole life he had spent it alone thinking he would never have a family…but as odd as it seemed, he had found one with these people around him.
It was a fine evening. Everyone was having fun, just being happy that they could all be together with no worries for a couple of hours…until time for dessert came.
Isabelle's belly had grown incredibly large, much to her discomfort. Being fat was something she wasn't happy about…but the fact that she would be a mother in less than three months made up for it. Everyone had been teasing her that she might have been pregnant for much longer than she had said, judging by how much she had grown. But none of them expected for her to get into labor that same night.
It all happened too fast.
After eating dinner, they all had moved towards the living room to watch some movie. Isabelle had moved towards the kitchen to bring dessert. Simon had offered to do it, but he had quick been called off. Isabelle was getting sick of everyone treating her as if she was about to die, or as if she would break at any moment. And so she continued to do stuff by her own without asking anyone's help. It had worked so far…until that night.
She had stood on her tip-toes trying to reach the upper cabinet in which the plates could be found. She couldn't reach properly and she had decided to use a chair to reach. She knew it couldn't be safe, she had been warned plenty of times, but she was being careful. As she was stepping down the chair she tripped and started to fall backwards. Thankfully, she was able to put her right foot on the floor and was able to lean against the table. She didn't hit the floor and she was completely safe…only a bit startled.
She then put the chair away and leaned down on the fridge to retreat the chocolate pudding Clary had bought earlier. As she leaned down, pain cursed through her lower abdomen making her gasp in pain. Her hands flew instantly towards her belly. Soon enough the pain was gone. Isabelle shrugged it off as something that was supposed to happen. Her doctor had warned her about the 'false alarms'. And so she continued with her task of taking dessert back to her friends and family. She had just gotten everything in the living room when the pain shot through her stomach once more. She gasped silently and looked around widely, making sure no one had noticed. They didn't. She excused herself to go to the bathroom and left the room quickly.
She locked herself in the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She was kind of pale, which could be because of the fright. She took a deep breath and then the pain returned. She clutched her stomach once more, moving her hands widely trying to find any movement from her babies. And then she felt it…something wet dripping through her pants. She panicked a little, thinking her water had broken…but it was impossible. She was only a couple of weeks into the sixth month. So she checked.
"SIMON!" she cried desperately "SIMON! SIMON!"
She slid down the bathroom's wall, staring in horror at the floor she had been standing a couple of seconds ago.
"Izzy? Isabelle?!" she heard Simon calling from down the hall "Is everything alright?"
"Simon!" She sobbed, not being able to comprehend what was happening "Simon…come here! SIMON!"
"Izzy!" Simon tried opening the door but found it locked "Izzy, open the door. What's going on? Are you alright?"
She sobbed once more, tears trailing down her cheeks as she continued to stare at the floor in complete horror.
"Isabelle, I need you to open the door…please" Simon pleaded desperately but Isabelle still didn't respond "Alright…Hold on baby. I'll open the door in a second"
Simon then walked away from the bathroom and rushed towards their room where he kept the keys of every door in their place. He looked at the drawers of the nightstand. However, his hands were shaking with fear of what could possibly be wrong with Isabelle and he could not concentrate on the task.
"Simon?" he heard someone calling for him. He turned around and saw Alec and Clary looking at him concerned. Magnus and Jace were standing behind them not so far away.
Clary took a step inside the room and tried to reach towards Simon, but he turned back around and continued looking for the keys.
"What's wrong?" Clary asked gently
"It's Izzy" He said in a rush "Something's wrong…she locked herself in the bathroom and is crying"
"She won't open?" Alec asked concerned about his baby sister
"She won't even answer me" Simon cried desperately "She just cries and calls my name…and I can't find the freaking keys!"
"Simon you need to calm down-" Clary started to say but was rudely interrupted by her best friend
"I can't calm down when my fiancée is crying in the bathroom!" Simon barked
"We don't have time for looking for the keys" Magnus said from outside the room "She could be in great danger"
"I can only think of kicking down the door" Alec said with uncertainty.
None of them had time to think much about their options. As soon as the words were out of Alec's mouth, Jace was heading towards the bathroom. He warned Izzy to step away from the door. He really hoped Izzy had obeyed. And then he kicked at the door…hard.
The door flew open with a snap. Everyone rushed towards the room where Jace was still standing by the entrance of the bathroom. Isabelle was still curled on the floor, crying desperately, and staring at the floor with wide eyes. Jace too could only stare at the floor, a small gasp leaving his lips. Simon rushed forwards, reaching for Isabelle and wrapping his arms around her before noticing what everyone was staring at.
The floor had blood. A small puddle of it that had been smudged around when Izzy had stepped over it. Blood that now was also under Isabelle from where she was sitting.
"There's so much blood" she whispered and Simon tightened his hold on her "Why is there so much blood?"
"We have to take her to the hospital" Simon said quickly turning to look at his friends.
"The ambulance is already coming" Alec announced as he put his phone away. He had dialed the emergency number as soon as he had seen the blood.
Isabelle was in the middle of a panic attack, which Simon tried to calm down desperately. A couple of minutes later, they heard the siren of an ambulance coming from outside. Alec and Magnus rushed towards the front door to let the paramedics inside. Clary and Jace were pushed away by the paramedics as they rushed inside the bathroom to check on Izzy.
"How far is she in her pregnancy?" One of the paramedics asked
"Six months and two weeks" Simon answered instantly "What's wrong? Why is she bleeding?"
"We need to take her to the hospital" Another medic asked "We need to get the baby out before it's too late"
And so Izzy was rushed towards the hospital…but by then Izzy had recovered from her shock and was looking around alarmed.
"What are you doing?!" She demanded as the paramedics lifted her up from the floor "Let me go! Tell me what's going on!"
"We need to take you to the hospital ma'am" One of the medics answered
"Why?!" She demanded "What's wrong?! ANSWER ME!"
She however was silenced when pain shot through her stomach once more. This one was longer and stronger, which brought new tears to her eyes.
"Damn you Lewis!" she cried towards Simon "You did this to me!"
The rage and pain in Izzy's voice shocked Magnus and Alec as Izzy was rushed inside the ambulance. Simon followed close behind, stepping inside the vehicle to sit next to his fiancée.
"We'll meet you there!" Clary called after him.
Simon was only able to nod before the doors of the ambulance were closed and they were driving off.
