Chapter Thirty Nine
Katherine crossed her arms as she overlooked the office. Yep, this was definitely the weirdest group of people that she had worked with. First there was Davina who looked like she hadn't slept for days and then there was her weird friend Monique. Stefan, Rebekah, Elijah, and Klaus stood at the other side of the room while Katherine preferred to be in a small corner, looking at both groups.
"Ok, the plan is simple enough that everyone should be able to figure it out," Klaus said as he folded his hands behind his back. "We needs to get the Traveler's knife and to get the Traveler's knife we need to get rid of Celeste. But since she is a witch, I thought it would be more poetic if two witches took care of her."
"Wait," Rebekah interrupted. "How do you even know that Celeste has possession of the knife?"
"She does," Monique clarified. "She still thinks we're working for her, I've seen the knife."
"I'll get the knife," Davina wiggled nervously. "If Monique kills her."
Monique nodded in approval.
"But not only do we have to lure Celeste, we have to lure Milena as well," Elijah said. "If they have formed a partnership, then when one is in danger, the other will come."
"So who gets to stab her with the knife?" Stefan demanded.
Katherine who hadn't spoke until now, walked towards them. "Me," she said firmly, which left no room for arguments. "If anyone is going to stab her, it's going to be me."
"Davina?"
Davina turned around and saw Stefan approaching her. "Can we talk?"
Davina nodded as she followed Stefan to the living room. "What is it?"
Stefan pulled open a drawer and pulled out a small, blue book and handed it to her. "I heard from Katherine that you weren't doing so well with everything. I thought this could help."
"How is a diary going to help me?" she wondered as she flipped through the empty, white pages.
Stefan smiled sympathetically and squeezed her hand. "Trust me it helps," he sighed. "Believe me, I've gone through this a hundred times, I know about the guilt and the fear-when you express your feelings by writing them, the feelings, the pain it doesn't hurt that much. Just try it, please."
Davina nodded, it wasn't like she had many options. "I will."
Katherine looked inside the new nursery. She had to admit that she liked it much better than the old one. At least this one was in purple her favorite color. Whoever, Klaus had hired to re do it had done a decent job. And it looked like a formal room, with the exception of a tiny white crib in the center.
She grabbed a teddy bear and stroke it. She couldn't help, but think what if they didn't survive? What if she didn't survive? What if they lost the other baby?
"I assume you like the nursery," Klaus said as he entered the room.
Katherine placed down the teddy bear. "Not a single pink thing in sight so yes, I liked it. She crossed her arms and rested her back against the crib. It felt weird talking to Klaus, a year ago she would have never thought it possible and now here they were talking like almost civilize people.
Klaus was the father of her daughters, and she knew that he was the only one who would feel what Katherine felt. "The plan is in motion and I must say, it's a good one. Very clever."
Klaus smirked. "You sound surprised, love. You've learned your best tricks from me."
Katherine nodded as she walked towards him. "True. But I usually add a little more flair."
"You are forgiven, Katerina."
The words came out so fast, that Katherine barely had time to appreciate them. She squeaked. "What?"
"You are forgiven," Klaus repeated again as he paused at the doorway. "From this moment on you have nothing to fear, you can walk on freely. I will protect you, I will not harm you for the rest of your days. You are free."
The statement should have made her happy. Sigh in relief, but it did the opposite, for the rest of your days. She was human. She would grow old and died eventually, while Elijah, Klaus, and maybe her daughter would be immortal forever.
Katherine felt a lump in her throat and sooner or later, Katherine would join her other daughter in the land of the dead.
They were quiet. Too quiet.
Celeste had been sure than as soon as they traced back that Katherine had lost one of the babies because of Celeste and Milena that they would attack immediately. But they were surprisingly calm and that scared her. And it annoyed her that Milena didn't feel the same way.
Celeste didn't completely trust Milena, she could become a passenger inside someone's body in a heartbeat and nothing could kill her except a single weapon.
No, Celeste couldn't count on her. She needed a plan of her own.
