Chapter Forty
"What are we doing here, Monique?" Davina demanded as the two girls walked around the empty streets. "We both know that we shouldn't be here."
"Davina," Monique slurred with a tone of idiocy in her voice. "Have you so quickly forgotten that you're a witch? We have nothing to fear, besides were are meeting Celeste."
Davina's eyes widened, she grabbed Monique's wrist, but she pulled way. "Monique, are you insane? We can't kill Celeste and get the Traveler's knife like this!" she whispered the last sentence.
Monique raised her chin. "Relax. She is ready to make a deal, she wants Milena dead as much as we do."
Before Davina could answer, Celeste walked towards them. She couldn't help but notice that there was blood on her clothing. "Greetings." She pretended that she only just saw the blood. "Oh, I'm sorry I had a little errand to take care off, I don't like loose ends. Davina, I'm sorry to inform you that it was your friend, Marcel, or should I say ex friend?"
Davina's eyes watered, unexpectedly. She knew that she and Marcel had been at odds with each other for a while, but that did not mean that she wanted him dead. "Marcel's dead-"
"He tried to attack me," Celeste shrugged. "Didn't work too well for him. But we aren't here to talk about Marcel, I'm here to offer you a deal."
"What kind of deal?" Davina asked with gritted teeth.
"Don't get all snippy with me, little witch," Celeste snapped. "Believe it or not, you are not the only one to want to get rid of Milena, Katherine's sister." She raised the knife. "I'm willing to give you this in exchange for something that will benefit me. Talk to Klaus and Elijah, and when they are ready to meet me, call me."
"Do you trust her?" Elijah asked Klaus as the two of them stood in the study, trying to put together what Monique and Davina had just said. "About Celeste wanting something in return for the knife?"
"No, I don't trust any of them, especially not now." Klaus said, circling his fingers on his desk. "Celeste has been trying to kill Katherine and my children-child for the past few months, I hardly think she is just going to hand over the knife quietly."
Elijah paused. "Celeste is crafty, but what if she is telling the truth, Klaus? There is nothing Celeste values more than her life, she is more than willing to offer Milena's life for her freedom."
"Well, I like my enemies dead and most likely buried six feet under," Klaus stood up. "Believe what you want, Elijah but I'm not letting this woman get anywhere near Katerina or my child."
"Katerina, there is no need to eavesdrop." Elijah said looked amused, when he had opened the door Katherine had quickly removed her ear from the door. "We wouldn't hide anything from you."
"Yeah, well why didn't any of you bothered mentioning that Celeste is prepared to make a deal in exchange for the knife?" Katherine pointed out. "Elijah, I can't keep finding out things from a closed door. This is my responsibility and my baby as well, and I would like to actually know what's going on-"
Elijah broke her off by kissing her. "Katerina," he murmured. "You shouldn't be worrying about this, let us take care of this, please."
Katherine paced nervously around the empty street. Where was she? She had called Celeste over an hour ago, secretly of course to meet her there, her only companion being Davina. She had gone up to "bed" but it wouldn't be long before someone noticed that she was missing. But she needed to do this for her sake, but more importantly for the baby's sake.
"Are you sure we should be here?" Davina squirmed uncomfortably. Preferably, Katherine would have preferred to do this solo, but because she was human she was practically worthless, so she asked Davina to tag along. "Shouldn't we wait for Elijah and Klaus to make the deal?"
"When have their deals ever worked?" Katherine said exasperated. "Besides Milena is my sister and she's my baby so technically it's my responsibility."
"It's Klaus' baby too." Davina pointed out.
"Yeah, yeah details. Where is that damn witch?"
A moment later, Celeste appeared almost from the shadows. "Miss Katherine, we finally meet in person." She offered her hand, but she refused to shake it. "No sense of manners I see, I guess that runs in the family."
"Yes, well for the past few months you've had people do your dirty work, so excuse me for not being friendly. Besides I came here to make a deal with you. Not exchange pleasantries."
Celeste crossed her arms over her chest. "Do your bodyguards know you're here?"
"That is none of their concern," Katherine snapped. "This is between you and me. Davina mentioned you wanted something in exchanged for the knife to kill Milena what is it?"
"Something tells me that Klaus won't let me walk away freely even after the baby is born," Celeste explained. "In exchange for me giving you the knife I want you to give me something in return."
Katherine narrowed her eyes. "And what is that?"
"I will give you the knife in exchanged for us to be linked. They won't kill me as long as I'm linked to you." She said. "You link yourself to me, I'll give you the knife. You have your baby and the three of you live happily ever after."
Katherine tsked. "Yeah, that seems too easy. You've been trying to kill me and this baby for the past seven months, you think I'm going to believe that you suddenly have no interest in killing her? Like you did to my other daughter?"
Celeste looked unfazed. "That was Milena's work, darling not mine." Celeste clarified. "And everything I did, I did to get under your skin and the Mikaelsons. But call me bored, I'm ready to move on. So do we have a deal?"
Katherine didn't speak for a minute before she said. "We have a deal."
"Katherine, no!" Davina protested.
"Davina, it's my decision," Katherine cut her off. "Do the spell."
Davina hesitated before she started muttering the spell linking Katherine and Celeste. Katherine felt something tightened in her chest. She had felt the same thing with Sophie. "It worked, we're linked."
"Best of luck," Celeste smirked as she handed her the knife. "You'll need it."
