Forty One

When Celeste left, Katherine clutched the knife in her hand before hiding it in her coat and turned to face Davina. "Go, home Davina there is no need for you to get involved in this."

Davina looked panicked. "I thought we were all going to fight Milena together-"

Katherine shook her head. "I don't want anyone to get hurt. Besides this is between me and my sister, no one else." Davina didn't budge. "Davina-"

Davina shook her head. "Katherine, you can get killed."

A small smirk appeared on her face. "I'm Katherine Pierce I'm a survivor." She lowered her voice. "Fine, get Elijah and Klaus, I'll wait here. I promise I won't move. Besides I don't even know where Milena is."

Davina gave her a quick hug. "I'll be right back."

Katherine watched as Davina disappeared before she hurried down the opposite street. She wasn't sure where she was going or where Milena was, but she wasn't waiting for her to come out. "Milena, come out! I'm waiting for you!"

She heard chanting and Katherine felt a gash of wind hit her as she fell on her back. She staggered to her feet as she watched Milena approached her. "I'm kind of at a disadvantage." She said. "Traveler against human isn't exactly fair."

Milena shrugged. "I never fight fair." She started chanting again, Katherine felt pain in her head. "How are the babies by the way? I never gave you a housewarming gift."

"You bitch!" Katherine scowled as she attempted to push Milena to the ground. "I'm sorry, Milena I'm sorry for everything is that what you want to hear? But how could you possibly kill my baby, Milena? Your niece!"

Milena pushed her against the wall, there was blood falling from Katherine's forehead. "Listen, well I am not your sister and the demon baby is not my niece. I wanted you to feel what I've been feeling for the past 500 years. Hurt. Betrayal. Anger. I wanted you to suffer, Katerina."

Katherine jabbed the knife into Milena's stomach. Milena looked up with hurt in her eyes.

Katherine gulped. "I am so sorry." She removed the knife. Milena raised her head and clutched her hands against Katherine's belly, muttering something and before Katherine could pull away, she fell on the floor, dead.

Katherine dropped the knife on the floor and staggered to her knees, what had Milena done? She fell on the floor next to her sister and whispered. "The Petrova girls together through the end."

Elijah knocked on Katherine's room, when she didn't answer, he frowned. Katherine wasn't a heavy sleeper. He opened the door, slightly. "Katerina?"

Katherine's bed and room were empty. Elijah gave an irritated sigh. She wouldn't have dare, but he had seen the look in Katherine's eyes full of hatred, desperation, and longing. He closed the door. "Niklaus!"

Stefan and Rebekah meet between the two roads, out of breath. "Did you find her?"

Rebekah shook her head and said in a choked voice. "But Marcel is dead, Celeste or someone must have killed him. Oh, Stefan, there was blood everywhere it seemed like he was bleeding from his eyes and his heart was just lying there!"

Stefan hugged her and petted the back of head. "I'm sorry, Rebekah I know you . . . raised him." He couldn't say, however that he was too sad about Marcel's death, but the Mikaelsons had known him for a long time.

"This is not the time to be cuddling!" Klaus snarled as he pushed them away. "Have any of you found Katerina? I've been searching this damn city and nothing!" his cell phone rang. "Elijah, you better have good news."

Elijah gulped. "Klaus I found her," he said as he searched for Katherine's pulse, it was weak, but still there. "She's unconscious, but she's alive. I'm taking her to the hospital, meet me there." He hung up before Klaus could say a word.

Elijah picked Katherine up. "Katerina, why do you have to be so stubborn and get involved?" he demanded as he kissed her forehead. "Don't you dare, die. Promise me that you won't die, Katerina."

Everything around Katherine was a blur. All she felt was pain all around her body and her lower body hurt. She tried to talk to whoever was pushing her in a gurney, but no one seemed to be paying attention to her. She had so many questions, was she in labor? Was Milena dead? Was the baby alive?

"Everything is going to be ok, honey just hang on tight," one of the nurses said as she placed a type of mask over Katherine's nose and mouth. "You're in labor, but we are afraid of complications and you already lost so much blood so we are going to do a C-section."

Katherine struggled to move, but someone held her tight.

"Everything is going to be ok, sweetheart," the nurse cooed. "You won't feel a thing, I promise. The sleeping and pain medication shall take effect soon. Just sleep. When you wake up you will have a beautiful baby in your arms."

Katherine felt her eyes close. A baby. Her daughter in her arms. Soon everything started becoming dark.

Katherine was in deep sleep as the doctors and nurses started on the C-section. Minutes past as they worked quietly, the doctor placed down the tools after he had made an insertion. He scooped up the first baby who was covered in blood. She was a small, pink thing who immediately started crying. He handed the baby quickly to the nurse who started cleaning her up and checking her vitals.

Next the doctor picked up the second, dead baby who was much smaller than her sister and seemed a little dry and shriveled. "Take her to the morgue." He said quietly. "The baby is dead."

The heart machines that Katherine had been attached too, started beeping at rapid speed. "Doctor, she is going into cardiac arrest!" one of the doctor informed her.

"Start CPR!" the doctor ordered as the nurse placed her hands over Katherine's heart and started pumping her hands up and down to try to restart her heart. But within seconds a loud beep surrounded the hospital room.

The doctor sighed. "Time of death 10:12 PM. Take her body up to the morgue as well and inform her family."

Celeste looked at the roaring candles in front of her, and the symbols she had made using salt to get her soul transferred into another body. All she had to do was kill herself. Then Katherine and the baby would both die because they were both linked to her, resulting in the worst punishment for the Mikaelsons and then she would be in a new body and no one would know who she is.

The plan was so perfect that it had almost fallen into Celeste's lap. She grabbed the knife, but before she could jab it in her throat she felt something sharp against her heart. She coughed, but the pain was still there in fact it was becoming stronger. She coughed again and she felt a sharp pain in her chest as her eyes widened. No, Katherine.

She hadn't done the spell yet, if she died then she would be dead for good.

Celeste attempted to reach the candles, but with another sharp pain to her head she fell on the floor. Completely motionless.

Klaus was tapping his foot anxiously, looking like he wanted to murder the entire staff. "What is taking them so long? I swear that I'm going to get through Katerina's thick head when I'm through with her-"

"Mr. Mikaelson," a nurse interrupted his rampage, causing both Elijah and Klaus to stand up from their chairs. "Your daughter was born a few minutes ago. Would you like to see her?"

A nurse led them through the hospitals nurseries where dozens of babies were being kept in incubators. Klaus compelled the nurse. "You won't remember our conversations."

The nurse led them to an incubator where a tiny, baby laid sleeping wrapped in a thick pink blanket and a pink hat. She was much smaller than the other babies because she was born at seven months. Klaus looked at his daughter. He couldn't believe that he was looking at his daughter. His baby girl.

"Congratulations, Niklaus." Elijah murmured. "She's beautiful."

"She's wonderful." He frowned slightly. "But her aura is of a human. How is that even possible?"

"Perhaps the witches made a mistake, the important thing is that she is healthy and well."

"Well I won't have my daughter hooked up to all these kinds of machines." Klaus bit his wrist and coaxed some blood down the baby's throat. "Drink up, sweetheart."

"May we see Katherine Pierce?" Elijah asked.

The nurse looked uncomfortable as she fiddled with her clipboard. "The doctor will be with you shortly to tell you of Miss Pierce's condition-"

Elijah felt his blood froze. He grasped the nurse's wrist, compelling her. "Tell us what happened."

"During the C-section, Miss Pierce had a lot of trouble breathing and was losing large amounts of blood, she went into cardiac arrest," the nurse said. "Miss Pierce is dead."
