Epilogue
Five Months Later. . .
"Stefan?" Damon answered after the fourth ring, he distinctively heard Elena's giggle through the other side. It was obvious that they were in bed, but thankfully that didn't bother Stefan any more. "Where the hell have you've been all this time?"
"Yes, brother I miss you too, thank you for calling." Stefan said sarcastically as he looked over his shoulder. He smiled when he saw Rebekah approached him smiling carrying the last of their suitcases. They were finally leaving New Orleans after five months, everything seemed to be back to normal so it was safe to leave. Rebekah wanted to go to Italy first, but Stefan wanted to visit Germany, so they had to decide first.
"I'm just calling to say goodbye for a long while." Stefan replied as he helped Rebekah carry the suitcase towards the car.
"What? Did Klaus knocked up Katherine again? Stefan, you need to come home!"
"I don't have anything else to do in Mystic Falls, Damon," he said tightly. "And no, Katherine became a vampire again so no more babies. I'm going to go travel the world."
Damon sounded confused. "By yourself?"
"No with me. Au revoir." Rebekah sing song as she hanged up the phone and threw her arms around Stefan. "Now please don't put me in a bad mood."
Stefan smiled as he kissed her. "That wasn't my intention. So Germany first?"
"Nice try, Italy."
"Ew, you two save it for the road, you two are setting a bad influence." Katherine said playfully as she and Elijah came outside to say goodbye. Her earrings were dangling in the air and she was holding a five month old Kassandra who was squirming happily in her arms.
"Come here," Rebekah squealed as she grabbed Kassandra from Katherine. "I'm going to miss you the most."
"That's comforting." Katherine snorted as Elijah wrapped his arm around her.
Stefan cleared his throat and noticed that one person was missing. "Where's Klaus?"
Elijah gave him an apologetic look. "Well, you know as well as I that Klaus is not good with goodbyes."
"He could at least try." Rebekah said sounding disappointed as she kissed Kassandra on the cheek before handing her back to Katherine. "Well, we better get going."
"Have fun." Katherine said as she grabbed Kassandra's wrist gently so that she would wave back and forth.
"Keep in touch." Elijah said as Rebekah and Stefan got into the car.
Klaus looked up from his bedroom window, careful not to be seen. When he saw Stefan and Rebekah disappearing he pulled down the curtains.
"Come on, sweetie say Daddy!" Katherine cooed at her daughter. Kassandra was sitting up (something that she had barely learn how to do) and clapping her hands together. Katherine was bended down next to her, guarding her in case she fell.
Klaus was sitting in a nearby chair trying not to smile. "She is still too young, Katerina."
Katherine rolled her eyes. "But our baby is special."
Klaus let himself smile. "That she is."
"Fine say, Mama." Katherine turned her attention back to Kassandra and kissed her cheek. "Come on say, Mama."
Kassandra giggled and patted her cheek.
"Beautiful night," Elijah commented as they walked through the streets of New Orleans. "Did Kassandra fall asleep?"
Katherine nodded as she wrapped her arm in his. "Yes, it's a good thing she's a heavy sleeper. Though Klaus can always come to the rescue if things get too difficult."
Elijah smiled.
"What are you so happy about?" Katherine said interested.
"Nothing in particular." Elijah said. "I'm just happy, everything seem to finally be going the way we planned. I'm happy you're here, Katerina. I thought when I lost you-"
"But you didn't lose me." Katherine protested as she stood up on her tippy toes and kissed him. "I'm right here. I will always be right here with you. I love you, Elijah."
"I love you too, Katerina." Elijah murmured as he kissed her forehead. "And that will never change."
Klaus pushed the door open of Kassandra's bedroom, careful not to wake her up. Katherine had put her down for the night and she and Elijah had gone for a walk.
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" he asked when he noticed that she had woken up and was staring curiously at the ceiling and then at him. "At least you're not noisy like your mother."
Kassandra raised her arms as if begging him to pick her up.
After a while, Klaus did. "I can never say no to you." He carefully picked up Kassandra and walked her towards the balcony which overlooked the city. "Someday, sweetheart all of this will be yours. New Orleans will be your home and your city, but for right now you're just my daughter. My little princess."
